Unleash the power of the shadows with my new Shadow Mage build! It's a high Intelligence build that offers stealth, devastating sorceries, and deadly close combat. And the best part? You can create this build right from the early game! th-cam.com/video/NTruxTsOFd4/w-d-xo.html
I've watched at least 15 videos on how to maximize a mage and got a ton of different answers that didn't seem right and I was having trouble around level 70 with certain enemies. This video is so much better, answered questions I didn't even know I had, and I'm now destroying. Much respect, thank you.
Everyone says something no one knows what they talk about. The best thing to do is try it out for yourself and finish the game to learn more about it I searched up how to build bloodhound fang and I got different answers like arcane should be focused first, dexterity first and than endurance, primary stat should be faith and than vigor
@@Mr_Slayer-mt5rj @user-op5sm8ve6n Exactly people spout nonsense acting as experts and it had my mage going in a terrible direction early game. This guide turned things around so I was able to get through the early stages until I picked up what I needed to know to make my own decisions about spell mix, gear etc. I get the try everything and beat the game advice but it just isn't realistic for me. I'm a completionist 250 hours in exploring every part of the map and I just don't have the time to mess around with a ton of builds whether its using a larval tear or NG+. There are just too many good games I haven't started (God of war ragnarok, cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon foridden west to name a few) for me to replay it immediately. I'll probably do a faith/strength build eventually though.
@@RGates33that’s what my build is on my first playthrough I just finished (strength faith) . Jumped right back into NG+ cause I wanted more . Using the Blasphemous blade , buff it with flame grant me strength and golden vow . Does so much damn damage it’s crazy. Really fun build. I wanna do a strength arcane build with the Maliketh Black blade at some point . Looks so cool. Also rivers of blood would be cool with like a dex arcane build .
Side note. You don't need 10 strength to get the bonuses from Azur's staff. The strength requirement for Azur and Lusat's staves only affects the melee damage of the staff, and has no effect on casting or the passive buffs
@geta bagboy no. All damage boosts in staves and seals come from fai, int, or arc in some cases. Str and dex do not affect any passive effects or damage scaling for spells
@@daveed-c137 And, in NG+, you can use two Staves of Loss and REALLY hit like a truck (the dmg bonuses stack multiplicatively, so 1.3 * 1.3 = 1.69, or +69% extra dmg with Night Comet when dual wielding Staff of Loss). And yes, this spell hits way more than normal Comet with the appropriate setup, and cost less FP.
Night comet with the staff of loss is stronger (left hand/duel staffs) with less fp cost than comet and it has more range. Also those enemy's that jump around when you cast are impacted much more. So happy I retrieved night comet.
I already had most of the spells I just had to get the dark moon and terra Magica and the last memory stone as well as grinding my intelligence and I’ve been having a lot of fun with this build
This video is superb. You use narration but also timestamps! I was so impressed you've got a new subscription. Thank you so much on this. I've added this to my watch later. The gavel is just what I needed for quick close range battles...it's amazing how well it works.
Loved this guide. You covered everything needed for a solid mage build. Your attention to detail and your time investment is most appreciated. Thank you!
Just changed my build from faith/arcane to intelligence and this was just what I was looking for. Everything I need, and nothing I don't. I'm crushing it with this build. Thanks.
Excellent! This is all almost exactly what I'm using as a late-game pure mage, plus a few different tips I will definitely try out! Also if you're using gravity sorceries, swap out your off-hand for the Meteorite Staff instead. Meteorite of Astel absolutely wrecks with it.
In my mage build my go-to spells are usually: 1) Great Glintstone Shard - Decent speed and range and more powerful than Glintstone pebble. 2) Comet - Decent range and quite powerful. 3) Cannon Of Haima - Hits mobs like a truck, 'nuff said! 4) Loretta's Greatbow - Great for sniping enemies when they are out of reach of my other spells. 5) Night Maiden's Mist - Excellent for when I know (or else want to check if) there is an enemy or enemies hiding around corners/behind walls/underneath where I'm standing etc, does extensive damage over time. Just need to be careful where and when you use it as it also does severe damage to the caster. Regardless, this spell _NEVER_ leaves my repertoire. 6) Adula's Moonblade - Decent damage against the right opponents, very good range and builds up Frost. 7) Ambush Shard - Not the strongest of spells but that coupled with the Arrow's Reach Talisman means it can be cast at a much greater distance giving it more of a reason to be in my repertoire; especially useful for hitting enemies with shields from afar. 8) Night Comet - Decent range, fairly cheap to cast, can be buffed via the Staff Of Loss in Offhand, can be charged to do extra damage to unaware enemies and uncharged shots can hit fast and agile enemies as long as you don't chain-spam too much. 9) Roiling Magma - Bit of a finicky spell but can potentially do a lot of damage against enemies. Lobbing the Magma at enemies directly can do a decent amount of damage but where this spell really shines is when you lob it on the ground near to enemies and, after a few moments of delay, it explodes causing even greater damage. Not only that, but so long as it's near enough and enemies aren't already alerted to your presence, the magma actually draws the attention of enemies and they will walk up to it...and then BAM! I love this spell. 10) Rock Sling - I don't use this as often as I used to but it's still a good spell to use, especially if you wield the Meteorite Staff in your offhand (apart from the boost it also seems to travel further when cast in your offhand for some reason). It has very good range, does decent amounts of physical damage and the delay before the rocks are thrown means, when timed right, it can hit fast and agile enemies who tend to attempt to dodge the spell (small enemies) at the moment of delay rather than as the rocks start travelling towards them. Arrow's Talisman also has an affect on the range of this spell. 11) Great Ocular Bubble - Again, like Rock Sling, I don't always use this but this spell can do pretty hefty damage. Like Ambush Shard and RS, it is affected by the Arrow's Reach Talisman. If it doesn't hit an enemy while it's travelling it'll go as far as it can and then hover for a few moments and then go POP! Does have a small AOE so any enemies that are near it will get hurt. The main downside, I feel, is that it requires 18 Arcane to use as opposed to Intelligence but it's not a major deal. Other spells I like to use when the mood takes me include: Ancient Death Rancor, Rykard's Rancor, Briars Of Sin and Briars Of Punishment (particularly like the latter as it has decent range), Ranni's Dark Moon, Zamor Icestorm, Carian Phalanx and Stars Of Ruin.
Additional underated feature with the Carian staff … the close range whirligig of death AoW. If someone gets in your face and youve not got the gavel to hand, egg beat them to death. Hits very rapidly and stunlocks most foes.
I suggest substitute comet with night comet. Keep the staff of loss in your left hand to buff its damage by approximately 30% (if I didn't remember wrong). This way you have a piercing, chargeable, high burst spell with similar FP efficiency to glintstone pebble and AI enemies will not dodge it because its "invisible" to them.
Thank you for this amazing guide. I mainly played a meele in elden ring but in my second run i wanna run a mage. There're so many guides out there but I really like you're build that helps a lot. Thank you so much
I've come back around full circle to the caster build, maybe a couple times now. Something I didn't realize the first time watching this build, but actually watching your latest dragon build was the ability to 1-2 spells like the Gavel / Dragon Claw using two staves/seals. Watching you pummle the Crucible Knight like that was very satisfying, as I'm probably not alone in thinking those at one point during the game were a fairly difficult enemy to face. After watching countless hours of Elden Ring videos, I still think your content is top tier Kimo. The only spell I like to add to this build is Ancient Death Rancor, and I do like to bring in the Moonveil and shield also, as I personally enjoy a block counter, sword and board playstyle.
Thank you so much, Matt. I always try my best to create something different but equally fun. The Moonveil/shield idea is excellent, but I like the pure sorcerer, or pure Faith builds because you can push the damage of your spells to the extreme. I only wish they would buff the death sorceries' damage like Ancient Death Rancor and Explosive Ghostflame. They are not entirely terrible, but they are severely underperforming compared to other spells and incantations in the game.
@@KimoChaser You're absolutely right, however, with Ancient Death Rancor I find the payoff is the consistency and slow speed. It rarely misses and you can cast it before other spells to not agro the enemy, so then you have a wave of damage that hits all at once. Not the best min/max, just personal preference which is what this game is all about - and I love it. I really can't get away from Moonviel, I think it's the best weapon in the game all around. Hits hard, fast and has options with the L2. I don't love it with a shield, but it's decent - and I think the katana powerstance moveset isn't as good as the straight/curved swords. It's just a weapon that does better than most in every category.
@@mattwalker2818 You managed to list the only reasons why would anyone should use Ancient Death Rancor. I'm actually thinking of taking a closer look at it one more time since Death build was very much requested on my channel. Moonveil is undoubtedly the best Intelligence weapon in the entire game, although I'm more of a Dark Moon Greatsword fan myself. The Katanas power stance isn't as strong as curved swords or Twinblades, but I will take that over using a shield any day.
great guide. you go over a lot of really fun spells and also put together a really solid combination of talismans and staves. all in all really helpful video
Thank you kimochaser for this encouragement video. I kinda regret choosing mage build but now starting to love it. I love this build now after seeing what you have done and achieved. Amazing 👍👍👍
This build looks so good for the way I like to engage battles and enemies in general. Been playing elden ring since 2 weeks now and was mostly grinding runes at caelid at the farum greeatbridge. Been progressing the game to a point where I'm at the academy and dying to the red wolf. I'm thinking to strengthen my self and come back for him and the queen later cause my build is high intelligence and they both have high resistance to magic
Tip: if you killed the turtle at church of vows you can give the scroll to Sellen at the basement of Waypoint ruins you have to defeat a boss to get to her
I also built a 80int character but put a few points in str and dex to meet minimum req for a variety of weapons so i can regularily switch up my playstyle and cover a broad range of gameplay experiences in one build. In addition to a pure magic fighting style like in this vid it can also play with: -Blaidds Royal Greatsword as a colossal option -Darkmoon Greatsword+helphens needle (cheers fextralife) -Moonveil and magic uchigatana -2x Wing of Astel -Lorettas polearm Not gonna get boring like that anytime soon and i can lay my anxieties on running out of larval tears to rest haha.
Thank you so much for watching. If I may suggest also supplement with this video I created recently. I'm certain you will find the information there helpful. th-cam.com/video/NTruxTsOFd4/w-d-xo.html
Great video man.. The problem with going for a specific build, is that you will have to spend hours and hours just to get all the gear you need.. I started a sorcerer the other day, and I might have spend 4 hours just to get a staff, and a decent selection of spells, and enough levels in int to actually use them. It’s great fun to go for all these things by following guides, but starting a new charcter and going for a build takes a very long time!
I couldn't agree more my friend. I like to think of my videos as a template that you can add or remove anything I list there and modify to your own liking and playstyle.
Loved this video so much I liked favorited subbed and turned on notifications, I’ve been needing an explanation on sorcery and nothing has been so in depth and so simple at the same time that I’ve come across. Thanks man.
Great job! and ALMOST exactly what I was looking for XD. I'm planning a walkthrough with a 'pure' mage investing zero points in strength or Dex for both theme and a little restriction to make it more interesting I didn't realize how much stagger the gavel had so I might have to use that one XD (edit) Also forgot to add that additionally equip weight will need to stay light and blue bar must always be bigger than green just to make equipment selection really easy for myself XD.
His build is solid. People keep bringing up night comit but the crown improves comet azur and comet. I think the real argument is does comet really need the boost of the crown late game and would going night comet without the mana loss be better.
Both sorceries have a lot of merits. Night Comet seems great for enemies that tend to dodge sorceries like Comet. But the reality is not every enemy can do that, and Comet deals more damage on average.
@@KimoChaser only with Azur helm.. I think it's a toss up. One thing people that bring up night comet leaves out is that Night Comet has almost no stagger ability unlike Comet. Also if you charge Night Comet enemies are more likely to dodge it compared to just casting it.
Great build but the best overall mage spell is night comet with a staff of loss in the OFF hand, add terra Magica and even my level 9 no upgrade mage 4 shots margit with the meteorite staff night comet staff of loss combo
Hello Michael. Thank you for your input, my friend. I went back to my build to double-check things. I'm going to assume that you wanted to replace Comet with Night Comet since they have the same cast speed and FP consumption. Comet straight away outperforms Night Comet by no small margin. However, equipping Staff of the Loss will increase its damage substantially to barely outperforming Comet while Azur's Glintstone Crown is equipped. But since the Crown also improves Comet Azur by 15%, I do believe my setup is still superior overall. I will leave some numbers around so you can double-check yourself.
No gear equipped and using Carian Regal Scepter +10 Comet - 1077 Night Comet - 928 Comet with crown - 1185 Night Comet with Staff of the Loss - 1206 Instead of equipping Staff of the Loss in your off-hand to just improve your Night Comet damage by 30%, you can make a small investment in Strength and equip the Jellyfish Shield to increase all your damage by 20%
@@KimoChaser Very useful numbers. If you're not planning on using Comet Azur (or don't yet have it), Night Comet with Staff of the Loss sounds like a better option than Comet with the crown. If you do have Comet Azur and plan on using it on bosses, Comet with the crown sounds like a better option than Night Comet with Staff of the Loss.
You could sacrifice the casting speed talisman and equip both spell boosting talismans instead. Also, say your intelligence is already at 99. You could have both the spell boosting talismans, the magic scorpion talisman and the talisman that increases attack at full health for maximum damage including all your buffs and fully upgraded staffs.
Thanky you for watching, my friend. I did mention all that in the talisman section 10:30. For me, best setup is Graven-Mass, Magic Scorpion Charm, Green Turtle Talisman and Sword Ritual Talisman.
@@KimoChaser yes but I’m saying you can equip both the graven mass AND the graven school spell boost charms instead of the green turtle for more damage instead of cast and recovery speed. That’s just if you want max damage over some speed that doesn’t really matter that much if you’re not playing pvp.
@@KimoChaser also one more thing I will say as a souls veteran is you don’t really need an endurance boost as long as you know how to juggle and time your combat correctly. If you’re using your entire endurance bar in battle then you’re either being to greedy with attacks or you’re trying too hard. :)
@@DEADN8 Thank you for your input, my friend. I was well aware of the Graven-School Talisman that raises the potency of Sorceries by 4%. However, It wasn't worth mentioning since it is only 4% and hardly an option against the other talismans i listed in the build. As for the stamina regen. Most of the sorceries i listed are quite stamina hungry and that's why i listed the Green Turtle Talisman, so you have much less down time between your casts. But Of course It is not mandatory and if you believe you can manage without in favor for 4% more damage, by all means.
@@KimoChaser just think about it like this, that 4% could mean the difference of that ‘one last hit’ for a boss you don’t have to worry about anymore to win before they send you back to where you came 😂
Absoultely. The only thing that you should be aware of is that since patch 1.09, Golden Vow no longer boosts incantations and Sorceries damage. It's a bug and hopefully it will be fixed soon.
I'm planning to make an update for it with an optimized early-game route. Let me know if you have any requests or ideas that I should take in consideration.
I made a mistake using vagabond for my first play through I can’t try mage in NG+. I was hybrid with strength dex and faith but now I have to start new class and go through another 180 hours of play with mage class
The Cerulean Hidden Tear will eliminate the FP consumption on all your sorceries for 15 seconds. You can use that in the Wondrous Physick Flask. I did mention it already in the video.
So, taking int to 80 - is it really worth it? I mean, genuine gains after the soft caps. I find myself having to dip into so many different roles to effectively play the game, I would worry about unnecessary stat spending; being single-stat poor as it were.

loved the golden order build and know this one is great. Have you ever considered making a beastial incantations build?
It is on my mind. Thank you so much for watching, my friend.
Tip: if you killed the turtle at church of vows you can give the scroll to Sellen at the basement of Waypoint ruins you have to defeat a boss to get to her
This is a great mage build. Thanks for a the great tips. It’s been fun in my new game+.
Most helpful video on the topic, thank you!
I also built a 80int character but put a few points in str and dex to meet minimum req for a variety of weapons so i can regularily switch up my playstyle and cover a broad range of gameplay experiences in one build. In addition to a pure magic fighting style like in this vid it can also play with:
-Blaidds Royal Greatsword as a colossal option
-Darkmoon Greatsword+helphens needle (cheers fextralife)
-Moonveil and magic uchigatana
-2x Wing of Astel
-Lorettas polearm
Not gonna get boring like that anytime soon and i can lay my anxieties on running out of larval tears to rest haha.
Those are really good Int weapons. Would love to make a dedicated build for some of them in the future. Thanks, Lukas for sharing.
You packed so much info into such a concise video, incredible work 👍
thank you for the great builds man. i used your lightning build guide and beat the game 6 times through it now im using this. keep it up
Thank you, my friend.
This video is amazing straight to the pointt so much info and no BS . Thank you so much.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you found it useful.
Great build. Just one doubt: at 4:20 how were you able to constantly cast the hammer. For me it has a down time after the 2nd hit
Swap every other cast to the off-hand staff. So one cast per staff and switch.
@@KimoChaser aah got it. Thank you
@@KimoChaser Of cause. Smart.
Great explanations. Two thumbs up.👍👍
I loved every details. Thank you
My favorite guide I’ve seen for this game
Thank you, Charles. Your words humble me.
Thank you very much!
Loved the video! Your attention to details and adding chapters to the video was great! Amazing build.
Thank you, Matheus.
I am currently going through my first time and playing a Int mage, ty for the detailed analysis,
Thank you so much for watching. If I may suggest also supplement with this video I created recently. I'm certain you will find the information there helpful.

I go full Int, and got surprized how I came to the same build as you
Nice. This is one of the most fun builds I had the pleasure of playing.
Agreed it takes forever lol. Mind if I ask what your strategy was to grind runes?
Love this build! Really good aesthetic and extremely powerful!
So excited to try out this build on my 3rd play through! Thank you!
I like to have some weapons. ... but I also like spell casting. Thanks for the video. ! 👍. I'm sold on Rennala 's Carian staff 👍
Loved this video so much I liked favorited subbed and turned on notifications, I’ve been needing an explanation on sorcery and nothing has been so in depth and so simple at the same time that I’ve come across. Thanks man.
Thank you so much, my friend.
Awesome guide, well explained without giving to much of the history. I had almost all the items listed but wasn't using them.
Thank you so much, my friend. I appreciate that.
I had never considered the Gavel of Haima before! I’m going to try it out
Very clear and informative guide, thanks alot man!!
Thank you so much, Antoine. ❤
pls get this guy more subs this build was fun
Great job! and ALMOST exactly what I was looking for XD.
Thank you for stopping by, Joe. I'm glad you find the guide helpful.
Thank you for the videos as well ❤
Pretty well made and straightforward build. Kepp up the good work, sir!
I swear your videos are the only genuine builds. Every other YTber is just looking for clicks. Much appreciated.
I'm also looking for clicks but from a certain crowd.
another great build!
Thank you so must. This is great 😊
Worth noting that if you dont use spells that benefit much from cast speed you can use both Graven Mass and also Graven School talisman as they stack.
another fantastic build 👌
Great video, and the basis for my new Astrologer build
Thank you, Greg.
Awesome guide. Clear logic and instructions
Thank you, Scott.
Awesome mage! Thanks for all the details
Thanks for insane guide for mages.
Thank you for making this nice and informative guide! I will try this
Thank you. I hope you enjoy it.
Beat mage build video I’ve seen! Thank you for the contribution! 🫡
Thank you so much. ❤
Thank you for this guide kimo. I am now level 220 mage with 99 intelligence and still going😊
Sorry for the late reply. I'm glad you found the guide helpful.
I must admit, Mages are my favorite builds in Elden Ring and Souls games in general.
Great video, I was level 119 and it helped me a lot
I'm very glad to hear that. ❤
What was your stats ??
I'm new to ER. this set build is wicked 💛💚💜💙 thanks so much for the guide. Excellent mAh dude
Thank you, my friend.
Also if you charge Night Comet enemies are more likely to dodge it compared to just casting it.
so much skill much wow :D anyway the build is awesome.
I always changed to moonlight greatsword after consume last mana flask. It works so well and high mana efficiency, good in long run like dungeon
Excellent guide man.
Thank you so much, Renzo. Happy New Year, my friend.
This guide is very useful and accurate, thank you
Thank you for watching, my friend.
No gear equipped and using Carian Regal Scepter +10
Comet - 1077
Night Comet - 928
Comet with crown - 1185
Night Comet with Staff of the Loss - 1206
Instead of equipping Staff of the Loss in your off-hand to just improve your Night Comet damage by 30%, you can make a small investment in Strength and equip the Jellyfish Shield to increase all your damage by 20%
@@KimoChaser Very useful numbers.
For the Grand Master build what did you use as your starting class Astrologer or prisoner?
I started as Astrologer.
Great guide, thanks
Thank you, Alex.
Very, very nice. Going to try this as it looks like great fun - for me, the whole point of playing video games. Cheers, Harry.
@@KimoChaser just think about it like this, that 4% could mean the difference of that ‘one last hit’ for a boss you don’t have to worry about anymore to win before they send you back to where you came 😂
Does this guide still work a year later (for a new elden ring player) or do I need to watch a more recent one? Thanks a lot.
@@KimoChaser Thank you for the thorough answer, this should be more than enough then ;-)
I made a mistake using vagabond for my first play through I can’t try mage in NG+. I was hybrid with strength dex and faith but now I have to start new class and go through another 180 hours of play with mage class
You should consider the wing of astel for the build too instead of moonveil or darkmoon greatsword
The weapon's ability has some insane stagger
Very interesting, Flavio. I'm aware of the Wing of Astel. I just didn't know it has good stagger.
quick question in your video i see you using some spells and your stamina is decreasing but not mana how it that?
The Cerulean Hidden Tear will eliminate the FP consumption on all your sorceries for 15 seconds.
You can use that in the Wondrous Physick Flask. I did mention it already in the video.
The Claymen's Spear buffed with Scholar's Armament is a sweet damage dealing weapon for int builds.
That is also a good melee weapon option. Although wouldn't take precedent over the Dark Moon Greatsword or the Moonveil Katana.
Definitely gonna be my next build
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Thank you for watching.
Another banger of a build video! Keep em coming. *Scurries off to try the Gavel*
Thank you so much, Reginald. That Gavel is insane, brother. Have fun. ❤
Gamed ya m3alem ♥️♥️
Habibi ♥
Best anfld detailed, tqsm
Now I want to play again 😊
So, taking int to 80 - is it really worth it? I mean, genuine gains after the soft caps. I find myself having to dip into so many different roles to effectively play the game, I would worry about unnecessary stat spending; being single-stat poor as it were.
There has to be a dominant stat in any build. But you don't have to invest 80 points if that is your concern, anything above 60 is acceptable.
What ng+ level were you in the video. I'm on my 3rd playthrough and want an op build do u think it'll still be as op or should I start from scratch in a new world??
Hey Ryder. Thank you for watching, my friend. In my opinion, this build can take you until NG+7.
I didn't call it OP, nor did I use these terms on any of my builds, but the results speak for themselves.
Hell yeah I've been waiting for another one of your videos!!!
Thank you, Patrick. I had a lot of fun with this one.
Next one will be death magic perhaps? ^_^
I really need to make one. Many people asked for it.
If you need help or ideas lemme know!!
@@plbennett Thanks my friend.
Just wanna give thanks to you man, through this video I learned how to build a strong mage. ❤ It's so busted it makes the game boring 😂 I would try your Shadowmage build next 😊
You made my day bro. Thank you for your kindness. ❤
great video! can’t wait to try the build
amazing build! thanks!
