Nice review! I hope to buy a TRD Off-Road with manual tran before the end of this year, and your priorities for the truck sound similar to mine. I'd get the Off-Road with no upgrade package and I would probably replace the tires real soon with better all-terrains.
For the price I’d go TRD sport. Actually not a fan of the plastic fender flares and they charge thousands for them. If you scratch one of those off road it will look horrible.. but also black plastic doesn’t age well. Those will fade with washes and sun.. but I’m happy YOU GOT WHAT YOU LOVE! That’s most important! It’s all personal preference, but the fact you got the manual makes us friends for LIFE! great vid about how the manual shifts and clutch feels.
Great looking truck but I wish these things had a more usable back seat and bed, both look very cramped. Also I’m not loving the course turbo 4. I know this is pure fantasy but does anyone else wish you could get a Ridgeline with a 6 speed manual? Oh well, I think I’ll just keep my v6/6 speed manual Frontier for now. Glad you like your new truck and always nice to watch car reviews from Massachusetts, cheers from western Mass.
This WAS my next vehicle, but when I went to the dealer, they didn't have any. They said they had a different manual option on the floor though. I went in and a 24 GR Corolla Premium was sitting there. I wasn't looking for one lol, but once I drove it, I had to have it. Needless to say, the Tacoma will have to wait haha. In a few years when the Corolla is paid off, I'll buy one and there will be some improvements made, I'm sure! Cool video though!
While smaller than even a vehicle like a Ford Maverick, I have yet to yearn for something larger, or find it to small during driving. So it hasn’t bothered me one bit.
Watching the clip it kinda seems like user error.. you dad might have tried to go 5>3 but the way the truck redlined really seemed to be what toyota described.. Transmissions can handle a 5>3.. 5>1 thats gonna do some damage
Haha I wish I had both. Goal for the channel is to continue to cover cars in depth, and in order for me to do so I got to keep selling/buying/reviewing. So I sold the Integra to buy the next chapter on the channel. That said, for me, while close, I would choose the integra. The driving experience was sublime and the car has great levels of practicality.
Thank you for the review. Still happy with my 2020 TRD off road. However I wish we could buy a cheaper 2wd version of the manual transmission. Sad that you have to pay 45k and above to get a manual truck.
If you get a manual transmission it doesn’t matter what trim you get you will get 270 horsepower you get more bang for the buck if you get the manual especially in the sr model
Since I don’t have OEM support, I am buying and selling the cars on my own in order to provide content for the community! So sadly I had to sell it to make way for this machine. That said, I still have one close to me, and will be comparing the Tacoma to it in the coming weeks.
Toyotas website is wrong if you get the manual doesn’t matter which trim or which model as long as it’s equipped with manual you will get 278 horse power
I love how the shifter rattles like the old trucks my dad had when I was a kid, very nostalgic
Right? Easily one of the better parts.
Extremely good review - removes all doubt that the manual trans works well with this truck.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad it helped.

Thank you!!!!
The fender flairs for this gen are actually painted black and not just black plastic like previous models/gen
Save the manuals!! Thank you Toyota
That's the Tacoma i looking for.
Thanks for the great video
You bet!!!
Does 2018 Tacoma manual also has rev hang?

This is midsize truck.

How do you find the rear view visibility? I found the back window was tiny, but I wasnt allowed to drive the model they had already sold.

@@MoneyShift thanks!
Without a handheld parking brake, do you have to do the electronic brake each time, or is it automatic?
Great question!
You do not. Upon shutting off the Tacoma, it auto activates the parking brake.
@@MoneyShift Thank you sir. You are the only one posting with a manual. I appreciate you!
@@HarveySutton-s8s any other questions send them my way!
Great video!
Thank you for the kind words!
In Canada we cannot buy this truck with a 6 spd manual and a 6 foot box or the upgrade multimedia. 😢😢😢.
Same in the US
They pipe in that engine sound. I didn't believe it either until I turned it off.

Dude you have integra type s and manual Tacoma . That’s awesome . Now which will be your daily drive
Haha I wish I had both.

Which trims have manual and what’s the mpg
I have 2 manual MPG videos so check them out!
The trims that have a manual option are: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road

You can get the SR double cab with the manual for 38k.. that's the cheapest manual spec
Does it have rev match?
It does, you can find it by enabling the iMT function. I have a video on the manual transmission that goes into it in depth!
Im checking the toyota web, and I can see 270hp on the manual 6spd in sport and off-road, i know SR is 228hp
If you get a manual transmission it doesn’t matter what trim you get you will get 270 horsepower you get more bang for the buck if you get the manual especially in the sr model
So for this same truck (TRD off road) but with cloth seats, side step.. no bilsteins.. in California the cost was $62,000. What the F?!?!?
Sounds like it is worth it to go out of state?
CA resident, bought my 2017 Trd Pro Tacoma and 2021 trd pro 4Runner in Oregon and drove back. Cost of a rental and got them both for msrp
All seven of my Toyota trucks have been manual transmission
Hell ya Sean!
What happens with the maverick?

@@MoneyShift good 👍, great tacoma.
Are u going to do the mpg test?
@@donays8241 check the channel! Just posted a 75MPH highway test 🤝
Blinkers bulbs area a cheap upgrade to LED
Totally! Coming soon!!
Where’s the Tacoma content? Been to long
Newborn child has taken a bit of priority here Michael! Stepping out to make content has been a bit hard.
Sorry 🥹
@@MoneyShift that rightttttt, I do remember you saying that…… Congrats buddy. No, I’m sorry!! Family first 🙏
I think yours has only 228 hp according to toyota website.
