      The Desert Eagle is an extremely resilient design. My grandpa managed to double charge a few handloads for his Mk VIII .44 Mag Desert Eagle. He managed to fire about three of them through the Desert Eagle before deciding that something wasn't right. Upon closer inspection, he noticed the molten brass on the breech face and realized he had probably over charged some rounds. He dissected the remaining rounds in the magazine and confirmed that he had somehow managed to double charge them with Alliant 2400. He took the pistol to a gunsmith and had molten brass cleaned from the breech face and firing pin channel. The bolt was inspected for fractures, and the firing pin, extractor, and ejector was replaced just to be safe, but other than that, the pistol remained in perfect functioning order. I don't know about the newer aluminum framed models, but the older steel framed model Desert Eagle would take a lot to have a catastrophic failure. One advantage to having 4 pounds of steel in your handgun is that it is pretty durable at that point.

For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. I recently went to the Glock armorer school and that is designed to happen. Glocks are made to direct the pressure out of the extractor and down towards the magazine. The Glock instructor stated it achieves this by not having a fully supported chamber at the bottom. Love these videos! Keep em coming!

      The safety aspect of this seems like a happy accident. IMO this was a reliability design, so oversized brass will chamber and extract reliably. Why would you want a case separation to cause violent action on slide stops and mag releases? Mag releases and slide stops popping out only cause minor injuries because this is a 9mm.

      There is a gap between the magazine well and the backstrap, that is there on purpose to vent any overpressure in case of a malfunction. People discovered this the hard way when the first Glocks were still range guns. Being used to steel guns a few target shooters figured they could give them a bit more heft for better control by pouring some lead into that gap. With target shooters often being reloaders it was only a matter of time before they fed a high pressure round into their Glock and discovered why the gap was there in the first place.

    ... I will admit that I’m not a big glock fan, but I do respect them for what they are... • @Predator42ID
      @Predator42ID 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      meh, Glock uses the exact Browning mechanism as all other semi-auto pistols. So with this test, practically all pistols would fair the same.
      However, a pistol that uses a direct blowback or a rotating lock bolt should be different.

    • @nickloven6728
      @nickloven6728 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Most modern pistols are designed to fail this way. The over pressure is directed out the magazine well and easily blows out the extractor. Most Glock and AR15's I've seen detonate never seriously Injured the shooter. It's just scary when the slide fails for some reason and shoots bits of stainless steel at your face, always wear eye protection.

      catastrophic failures are highly likely for glocks. hence the phrase glock kaboom. it all has to do with overpressure from hand reloads and some complicating circumstances like a squib load. he's right, he put the squib in the wrong place. had it been near the middle or back of the barrel, with a really hot load, gun would have exploded fingers severed and all

    Scott, this is JUST LIKE a case failure that I had in my first Gen 3 Glock 22. I was at a range in Oregon about 2005 or 2006, shooting his very hot reloads. He had been reloading for years, and never once had a catastrophic case failure, until I loaded one into my magazine. It blew the extractor and ejector rod and spring out of the gun and into parts unknown, and completely blossomed the case inside the chamber of the barrel. It also blew a small chunk of metal out of the top portion of the slide at the chamber.
    Interestingly enough, I also had an injury to my thumb, just like the ballistics dummy, because I flinched when my face got showered with bits of hot shell casing and gun powder, and my thumb nail caught on the slide serrations and ripped it partially off, as well as gave me a nasty cherry on the outside corner of it.
    I was okay besides the thumb, but pretty shook up. The gun was completely destroyed. Glock repaired the gun at no cost, and I never shot reloads after that again, and I still don't to this day. I later gave the gun to my buddy as collateral for something, but I can't remember what.....a Ruger P89? Don't remember. But he ended up selling the gun, and I bought another G22 which I still have.

    Before you over pressured the revolver you could use a ballistic gel hand to show what would happen if the hand covers the cylinder gap with even a normal load. Really neat that the Glock didn't totally explode, even with such extreme circumstances, I sort of expected it to just eject the slide backwards and shear away the locking portion.

    So I may have actually witnessed this in the wild without realizing it. In mid 2020 someone was shooting some questionable quality ammo at my local range and I thought I witnessed an out of battery detonation in a Glock, but now I'm really thinking he had fired a double charged round. Everything in this video occurred in the one I witnessed besides bulging of the barrel. The mag was damaged and rounds spilled out due to the mag being ejected and the feed lips being partially destroyed, the magazine release was gone (couldn't find it), the extractor was blown out and hit the shooter in the face, and he had some minor burns on his hands. His slide didn't have any visible damage that I could see besides the extractor. The grip frame also appeared to hold up fairly well too. That being said, I told him the only thing I'd even think about reusing was the iron sights. I wouldn't trust any of the other parts after what happened. Thankfully the guy was relatively uninjured besides the minor burns on his hands and a small amount of bleeding where the extractor struck his face. Needless to say, the rest of that ammo was disposed of on the spot so it wouldn't get shot by anyone else.

      With most modern ammo it's actually kinda difficult to overload even with super fast powders because alot of them are close to using all case volume for hot loads so adding 30% isn't going to push it to catastrophic failure. If you ever find yourself packing your powder down so you can fit more into the case you should probably reevaluate your load. Now of course I'm talking regular calibers most shooters have access to. The exceptions are rounds that used to be black powder like .45 LC or .38 special because the cases are way too big for smokeless powder and allow you to triple or quadruple load your rounds which is definitely in the realm of catastrophic failure.

    Glocks are known for not having fully supported chambers and that may have been what saved it from blowing up completely. It would be interesting if you tried this with a m&p or springfield to see if that supported chamber would cause the gun to blow up catastrophically.

    • @MobiusUSAH
      @MobiusUSAH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's a bit of a old wives' tale. All semi-auto pistols have to compromise between the chamber and feed ramp. There was a belief (incorrectly) that the Glock chamber was radically different when they were in their early years. But as you look at many other brands and even including some 1911's the differences are minimal. Further, the myth at the time was that the "unsupported" chamber was the cause of the kabooms. When in reality as you noted, it would have been a weak spot to vent excess gasses if that were the case. M&P and Springfield would likely behave the same. Especially on the 9mm end.

There's just way too un verifiable claims to draw any real conclusions on the subject. Iv looked and yes not fully supported chamber is what most people blame but by no means can we definitively say that is the actual reason, now there isn't many other possibilities but theres definitively a few.The way I see it is most glocks out there are stock and if it is the chamber than why are the vast majority of g20 owners not having this issue? All these people who claim it blew up are not firing an absurd amount of shots or even really putting the gun to the test, it appears to be entirely random. It either works or it does not, having a catastrophic failure "once in a while" is something that needs immediate attention and no manufacturer is going to keep producing it like that if that is the case.

    This is a fun series but its way important too. I'm betting most gunners dont give failures much thought until it happens to them (or near them) I sure didnt. This is really helpful. Thanks Scott.

      Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven.

    Any chance at seeing what a desert eagle can hold up to?

    I volunteered for several years to help out the High School Seniors just starting up in the aviation mechanics at the Vo Tech. It was shocking to me how few of these seniors had any idea how to use tools. What really blew me away was none of them had any idea how to use a knife safely, they were constantly cutting so that any slip would injure them, sometimes badly. I'm 76, when I went to grade school and up, every boy had a pocket knife he carried all the time, and most knew how to use it safely. I had to watch these kids constantly if they were cutting anything, and point out their gross neglect and what would happen if that knife slipped.

    The Underwood rounds that use the Lehigh penetrators are pretty cool. I'd love to see some tests of their barrier blindness, with Zombies as targets of course.

    I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me that I enjoy watching you destroying guns as much as I do, still these videos are useful as public information films, Anti Zombie information, how not to destroy your personal defence weapons by only using recommended ammunition. Your services to public safety are highly underrated on behalf of Zombie hunters, and the gun community I thank you
