he tried to do this once shooting 700 Nitro out of a 10 gauge it was pretty underwhelming to get it to finally blow up he had to pack the barrel full of mud and use standard 10 gauge rounds. Think IV8888 did a video with this once also with some no name .410 shotgun they shot .454 casull out of it and it worked just fine. In short shotguns don't blow up easily. That being said here's his 10 gauge video of 700 nitro express in it. He does eventually do a bore obstruction in it as well. th-cam.com/video/x5VIn9dKVtg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=KentuckyBallistics

Hope you're doing ok with all that flooding! My 5 year old son that loves watching your videos with me is super concerned for you. He keeps telling my wife "the guy that makes gun videos is in Kentucky, I hope he isn't in the flooded part."
Awesome son! I've been praying for Kentucky, we had a flooded basement ourselves a while ago and it killed our washer and hot water heater. But at least we're all safe, and it happened during the summer so it wasn't bad going without hot water for a while. I'm shocked how expensive those things are! We have some insurance, but flood insurance costs way extra, and this is the only time this area has flooded since before I was born.

I actually shat myself at the 6:50 Mark! 😆😆 Your videos keep getting better and better! From a Scottish guy, I'm loving the American sense of humour! 🏴🇺🇲
Not going to lie Scott, i have always been a demolitia man personally. But i straight up think this is the coolest series on any gun channel! Keep up the great work!
It's still crazy to me that he's still alive. Going back and rewatching the .50BMG explosion, it really was nasty. These explosion videos are educational and show what not to do. Show not to trust certain ammo. I'm so glad KB is around and alive today.
I feel like he’s actually got a lot more comfortable on camera and even funnier since the accident, like he’s got a second lease on life. I find it inspiring
I'd be interested to see the effects on a .50AE Desert Eagle. They've got a rather chunky chamber area, and I'm curious as to how the bolt and slide would hold up.
It would be interesting to see how hot can you load a cartridge, and see with a chronograph the velocities you can achieve until it explodes. For example a 9mm ....how fast can you push it? It would be a hell of fun
I think getting some of those pressure pads that break at certain pressure ranges, would be a nice addition to these kinds of videos. Mayne even a digital pressure gauge, something to let you know how much pressure the percussion is generating. Kind of like how Myrhbusters used to do.
Detonating a flintlock would be neat. Always heard about the dangers of accidentally loading a second powder charge, never seen what happens irl. Obviously do this with a modern repro and not an antique.
Really I would love to see if someone could "blow up" one of the modern India made reproductions that people are always claiming are "blowing up" all the time. Modern reproductions of flintlocks are going to have much stronger barrels than antiques because the barrels are milled from steel rather than forge welded wrought iron. But still would be interesting to test!
My two thoughts for barrel obstruction: first, a lever action. I think that could be very interesting to see how it rapidly disassembles itself. The second is some kind of .22. I’d be curious to see what would happen with an overcharged .22. It’s tiny, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it has quite a pop. Might be hard to make that one happen though.
Im sure theres a poorly enough made .22 out there somewhere that can be made to throw some shrapnel. If not id love to see what would happen if you substituted gun powder for something with a little more jam. lol condiments on the brain after all the can shooting
@@aeis3007 wow no kidding eh, pot metal. That adds a whole new level of sketchy to the thought of firing a vintage firearm. lol I agree, the zip should never have existed in the first place
Makes me wonder about the smaller side. Could a 22lr or 22 magnum even have a catastrophic failure? Or would there simply not be enough room in the cartridges for the powder?
IIRC, a .22LR has about a grain to a grain and a half of powder. It should theoretically be possible to double that in the space available, but I'm not sure that would generate enough pressure to cause damage. Maybe in a bolt action with a barrel obstruction. .22 WMR would probably be the better bet for causing damage to your gun. There's a lot more room for powder in that cartridge.
Scott, look for the top strap somewhat forward of the guns position. Being familiar with cases of dynamic disassembly of revolvers, the top strap generally will break at the rear sight first as it makes it's way upward. It is then detached from the frame at the barrel shank at the last of the event. I believe this is a intentional design so material is deflected away from the shooter. The recoil shields on a revolver, both double and single action, act as guards for any pieces that seperate from the cylinder. Although it is a small area, it does translate into a greater area of protection for the shooters face. Most dynamic events with revolvers leave the shooters face and head areas with little or no damage due to their designs.
That is what we call failsafe designs. Not all firearms have this as seen with scotts incident with a 50.cal. Most other rifles and handguns have those built into the design from defectors, intentional weakpoints etc so if failure occurs its less likely to injure or severely injure the user.
It hurts to see a 500 magnum destroyed, but I understand. I shudder thinking about the time I had a dang Squib where it lodged in my 500 barrel and thank God I was able to realize it before pulling off the next shot...that could've been catastrophic as well. Keep up the great vids Scott.
Mr Scott I would like to say thanks for being an upstanding person. I watch videos with my grandkids and it is very nice when I never have to worry about the use of offensive words or subjects that many others use for humor. For me personally it doesn’t matter but I exclusively watch with my grandkids and it’s nice to not always have to be on edge and ready to pause a piece of content. Thank you for caring. I wish you all the very best!
Glad to see this series again Scott very informative. The only thing I wonder is that with those round being so hot if they blow the gun apart totally different than what would happen if you encountered a round that was just enough to break the gun, if the debrie pattern would be different or not? Just something I have thought of, would be interesting to see if a 100,000 psi round would blow that round if it would inflict more injury towards you or not? Always love your videos!
That's an interesting idea but that's difficult to test. It's hard to say if a round would be "just enough" to break the gun. And repeated testing on the same gun could introduce weaknesses that cause it to break differently when you do finally find the right PSI to break it. Or it might change what the "breaking point" PSI is altogether.
@@ebreshea1337 On these guns (revolvers) you're pretty much always just going to end up with injured hands and little peppers of shrapnel. Remember, revolvers have been in this general format for over 160 years (talking with a solid frame, top strap) and for the longest time were prone to chainfire and bad metallurgy. It's a system that's been proven in trial by fire. So long as you've got a recoil shield on the frame, your face should be safe for the most part. You'd have to be so supremely unlucky as to have the top strap fail at the front and then peel backwards before failing at the rear to get anything significant to you.
This seems like the safest of the detonations!!! I mean if it fails at the cylinder I think your chances of serious injury is fairly minimal. I feel the back strap provides a diversion keeping everything going straight up or to the sides. I’d like to see a more common revolver maybe do a .357 next to a colt SAA. I’d like to see the difference between the .500.
I can’t believe how outstanding the frame did in containing the failure to mostly only the cylinder!! That was a HUGE high pressure event, and it looked like you’d probably have metal pieces in your body somewhere, but as far as how well built the S&W 500 Magnum is, it could definitely be worse! WOW!!!
I'd be curious to know how much more or less penetrating power the rounds have when they have that much pressure behind them compared to a standard round. If you do this again, maybe setup a bunch of pine boards in front of the barrel and compare the results to a standard round?
Japanese early model Arisaka, but work your way up to the boom-out load, Arisakas were one of the strongest actions tested after WWII (P.O.Ackley), be interesting in the handbook for shooters and reloaders vol. 1&2, there is a chapter on strength of actions. He did some scary hot loads and had to be creative to get them to fail. I believe the Type 38 early production.
Ahhhh.. The Boom we've all been waiting for 🤣 It'd be cool to see something like a simple 30-06 hunting rifle blown up since i imagine a lot of people have and use one. The wood furniture would make it interesting as well to see the damage it does. Should do a whole hunting edition episode, Dry fire a compound bow without you having to be the one that pull it back somehow and watch that explode lol. it can really screws you up if it happens to you. Do something with a crossbow.. So many things you could do
My uncle Bob introduced me to magnum firearms back in the 70’s. I’ve loved them ever since! I remember hearing people claim that if I didn’t hold onto my .357 magnum correctly, it would break my wrist. What a joke! That’s a squirrel gun!🤣
Ethan here... it was surreal seeing you at the back-to-school celebration. My little brother was so exited, and he had me look your channel up the second we got home. Thanks Scott for giving me awesome videos to watch while my wife and I are in the hospital with our newborn. Great distraction for the few minutes of down time we have. Keep up the great work!!
Scott, I've been going through a rough patch in life lately. This video put a smile on my face and gave me some much needed laughter. I can't thank you enough for what you do. I hope you continue to keep bringing everything you do to the table... before you destroy it.
Having watched a couple of these, I find myself less curious about the destruction, but more about pressure tolerances. Being a fan of the 10mm, I would be curious to see how hot of a round some of the common makes could handle before problems arose.
This tells you how strong that barrel is to stay in one piece along with most of it. I own this same gun but is a 7.5 inch Performance Center model with built in muzzle brake. I was honestly expecting a majority disintegration of the pistol, especially having a barrel obstruction.
I would be interested in seeing how a breech-loading rifle (other than the RN-50) or a break-action rifle would fail under such pressures. A breech-loading rifle with a pop-up style breech would be an interesting candidate for a high-pressure test, as some rifles have locking mechanisms which are designed to protect the user from malfunctions.
That right there at 8:56 is what we call an Elmer Keith moment. Those of you who watch Forgotten Weapons should catch on to this one. I forget what kind of revolver Keith was using, but he tried to hot load it with the equivalent of .45cal. His gun went boom leaving only half the cylinder behind (plus the copper casing fused to one of the partial chambers) and the creation of a new caliber.
First Brandon's blowing stuff up today now Scott. I gotta say given just *how* catastrophic that round had to be to cause that I think in any truer to life failure you'd probably be fine with a .500 Magnum. No that I'd like to be holding one when it happens mind you...
460 and 500 run about the same pressure, but the smaller .45 diameter means the 460 has a lot more metal holding the pressure in. The 454 is in a much smaller gun, making it a less safe gun than the 460
@@bobjohnson1633 What are you talking about 454 Casull being in a smaller, less safe gun? A dedicated 454 would be shorter yes, but it's still rated for the same pressures as the 460 Magnum.
Scott im gona be honest with you i struggle with depression and suicidle thought for over 5 years now lost my job to it but the one thing that always puts a smile on my face is ur content keep doing what u do and thx :) greetings from the netherlands
Nick Boots are amazing I've been using them for years. yes they are not cheap. however they will last and they can be resoled and rebuilt many many times! I work in constriction and they are by far the best boots I've owned!
OMG thanks for doing this one! I've been waiting months ever since you replied to my suggestion! It would have been interesting to know what kind of destructive power this round had since it actually cleared the barrel! Out of curiosity, I see that 700gn monster but would you happen to know what was the powder load?
Love the videos, love the enthusiasm. I know there's a world of things to blow up, but how about other popular handguns? Like a bererra 92 (will the slide eject into skull?). Or a cz75 (will the steel framed pistol hold up better?) Maybe make the fudds angry and blow up a 1911 (it survived 2 world wars, could it survive your buddies reloads?) Maybe do all 3 in one episode lol Also, I'd enjoy watching you setup an eggplant shooting gallery. I mean some 20+ eggplants getting popped off like ducks. Make for a fun western theme for in intro to blow up a 45lc / 45-70 And last thought as an intro, go through the woods hunting the invasive species. The species start out as innocent white egg like plants, but grow up and turn into purple monsters, that is eggplant
Absolutely love the intros to your videos. It seems like they just keep getting better too….unlike one of my other favorite channels which I won’t name…Matt from demolition…🤣 But seriously, keep it up man
Hope this comment finds you well. We here in Perry County are pushing strong through this tragedy. I do have to say your video was a welcome distraction from all that’s going on. What id like to see is what would happen in a worst case scenario with a tube fed lever action if the rounds were discharged by the ballistic tip! Thanks, I LOVE your channel!
Definitely getting one of those shirts. Speaking of Scott's appreciation for large calibers, check out the freaking cannons attached to his shoulders! #WorkOutGoals
A shotgun, AR, or even a 1911 would be cool. And I saw this as someone outside the firearms community looking in, because I know there are probably tons of people handloading every sort of firearm, but I would also love to see a firearm that is commonly handloaded just to show what can go wrong if you mess up. Perhaps something black powder using smokeless powder. I know there are videos doing just that but would love to see Scott's take on it.
I was thinking something automatic such as an AR (or an AK)... Maybe a number of regular rounds, then the spicy one after half a dozen or so standard firings 🤔 Or , and I don't know exactly how it could even be done, but somehow if a cannon - as in a muzzle-loading actual cannon - could be involved in some way, that would surely be a fantastic bit of footage.
We watch every show, sometimes more than once. You bring smiles while learning. I am on my phone to let you know that we enjoy your show very much. From Alaska😀
As someone from much further south than Kentucky, I was amazed to see that you could walk through the woods without running into 48 different spider webs
So, I am interested in the "overcharge" load you used to blow this thing up. What powder was used? I assuming something like Titegroup to actually get that kind of overcharge. As a reloader, this data would be interesting to know...was it a 2X charge, 3X charge, 4x charge(if even possible)?....details would be welcome. Thanks!
As it seems you guys are not going to get an official answer, if you care about the opinion of a random stranger who may be a fool that doesn't know what it's talking about or a seasoned reloader, I would bet on either titegroup or hp-38 compressed once before seating the bullet deeper until it meets resistance.
I'll tell ya what. When you were loading the spicy round and closed the cylinder and that big bomb went off.... I just about jumped off the couch🤣🤣🤣....I was concentrating so much on your actions with closing the cylinder that bomb scared the crap out of me😅.. That was great!!!!
You are going to give me a heart attack. Those booms when you are loading make me jump every time. I love your videos. I think you are a little crazy. I hope you have the best medical insurance on the planet.
I was the last of my family to actually be born in our farmhouse in southwestern Pennsylvania three miles from the West Virginia border. Our farm was a large one and bordered the thousands of acres of official Pennsylvania Gamelands. I spent 6 months of every year on the farm but the three months of the year with my mom in London then the last three months of each year with an auntie on a small farm just west of Oslo, Norway. To this day I hold triple citizenship. I grew up with numerous guns in our farmhouse which was built 30 years before the Civil War. It may be hard for people now to believe but my first firearm was given to me when I was 8 years old by my Irish grandfather. It was a .25 caliber Beretta semi-automatic which I carried (not at school) in the back pocket of my blue jeans for shooting targets, small stones, old telephone insulators etc. After I graduated high school in Pennsylvania I went back to Norway and lived with my auntie for a few years then qualified and served 18 years with Norway’s Jaegerkommandoen KostalMarinen. That is I may say Norway’s equivalent of the U.S. Navy Seals. I saw both urban and Mountain wilderness combat during the Serbian conflict in the very late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The soldiers under my command and I were tasked with tracking down Serbian Militia members who were conducting what is called ethnic cleansing on innocent Muslim men, women, and most horribly children. We either captured them if we could or eliminated them. I moved back to the States after my service and ultimately in my mid 50’s I moved to north Texas not far from Dallas. Your channel brings back memories of my life on our family farm of hunting, target shooting etc. the best part of my life history with guns. I have zero good memories of my combat experience and have PTSD to this day at the age of 70. Watching your channel has helped me recently to recover from triple bypass cardiac surgery. I laugh and am engrossed by your information and look forward to each posting by you. I subscribed about a year ago. I generally do not speak of politics but after the horror of war I experienced first hand I do not agree politically with most of my Texas friends and neighbors though they are still my friends. Incidentally two things: the “sidearm” I carried in combat (it was completely non-official) was a Danish Machine Pistol that was wicked but effective but looked like it was constructed out of old iron pipes by a mentally challenged plumber. I wish I still had but sold it for beer money in Germany after my discharge from the Marines. Secondly, I have not carried a side arm for many years but want to do so now. But now I am looking for the right gun for carrying daily here in Texas. I have not fired a gun since my discharge from the service. Is there a way for you to recommend something decent I might carry. I am looking for a small revolver instead of a semi auto. I am deeply experienced with guns of course but have as I said been away from them since 1982. Any recommendations or anyone experienced reading this? Thank you so much. You gave one of my very favorite channels.

I'd love to see how the .50 AE desert eagle handles a catastrophic failure. Especially with it's unique gas system and AR type locking lugs.
Pretty sure the chamber in front of the locking lugs would detonate.
Or the locking lugs would get sheared off
@@HerrCobra_762 I think the lugs would shear prior to the chamber detonates.

I'd be interested to see the effects on a .50AE Desert Eagle. They've got a rather chunky chamber area, and I'm curious as to how the bolt and slide would hold up.
Agree! Make big boom go boom 👍 Come on Scott, it will be fun.

That would be interesting! The rotating bolt should be quiet hard to destroy I imagine.
👍 yeah
It would be interesting to see how hot can you load a cartridge, and see with a chronograph the velocities you can achieve until it explodes. For example a 9mm ....how fast can you push it? It would be a hell of fun
If you use shell shock's nas3 casings, you can get some really hot charges that are still safe.
the metal fatigue would be accumulative, so the results would probably fail a lot sooner than if it was just the one higher pressure round

A regular double charge actually will not hurt the gun. IV8888 did this.
th-cam.com/video/en384qVqrug/w-d-xo.html
@@HerrCobra_762 you are correct! Dixie Gun works proved that back in my days of the 70’s. But not seating the bullet against the powder can be fatal!
Iragveteran8888 tried to blow up a muzzle loader years ago. It was sure difficult to do. They even filled the barrel with smokeless pistol powder.
good call.
I love the sense of self-derision with the t-shirt. And the table colors...Man this is epic. You should consier sending the table to an art gallery.
Great video Scot! I would really like to see a 1911 going crazy
I second that!
I was trying to comment this too but for some reason it wouldn’t let me. But I was thinking a 22 out of an old bolt action.
Im sure theres a poorly enough made .22 out there somewhere that can be made to throw some shrapnel. If not id love to see what would happen if you substituted gun powder for something with a little more jam. lol condiments on the brain after all the can shooting
@@PullingWrenches maybe heritage arms .22 because they are made with pot metal. Or maybe the zip. 22 because those need to be destroyed
Too tiny to have any effect on the guns material.
Maybe not a .22lr but a .22 hornet might be able to go bang
50AE is interesting. But this is too.
Oh yeah. .22 lr can catastrophically fail. See my comment at top.
And yet a gun blew up in your hand I wouldn't worry about your face bro
It hurts to see a 500 magnum destroyed, but I understand.
I shudder thinking about the time I had a dang Squib where it lodged in my 500 barrel and thank God I was able to realize it before pulling off the next shot...that could've been catastrophic as well.
Keep up the great vids Scott.
Mr Scott I would like to say thanks for being an upstanding person. I watch videos with my grandkids and it is very nice when I never have to worry about the use of offensive words or subjects that many others use for humor. I wish you all the very best!
As a Kentuckian who has been hit by the flooding pretty badly I have to say it's nice to see someone positive
When scott does these gun destruction episodes, i cant help but genuinely fear for his life
Glad to see this series again Scott very informative.
That explosion during the loading actually scared the crap out of me. Well played!
WOW!!!
Was surprised the frame held together at all. And then being in this good of a condition, I would never have guessed that!
I'd be curious to know how much more or less penetrating power the rounds have when they have that much pressure behind them compared to a standard round. If you do this again, maybe setup a bunch of pine boards in front of the barrel and compare the results to a standard round?
I just commented almost the exact same thing. Some gel or watermelon lol
You have my attention.. o.o

That jumpscare explosion took years off my life lol
Looks like cylinder is a natural fail-safe feature in the revolver design.
Neat to see a Nicks sponsorship... Can't afford them, but from the rose anvil videos they seem pretty legit.
They're, I highly recommend too. Worth saving for!
Brandon made a pipe bomb and called it a gun...
I'd like to see how the .454/.460 would do, considering how high of pressure they run at normally.
The .460sw runs the same pressure as the .500sw, 60000psi
460 and 500 run about the same pressure, but the smaller .45 diameter means the 460 has a lot more metal holding the pressure in. The 454 is in a much smaller gun, making it a less safe gun than the 460
@@bobjohnson1633 454 and 460 use the same diameter for the bullets and case. 45 colt, 454, and 460 can all be shot out of a s&w 460 x frame
