Honda CR-E - Nicot/AdmitJet Electric SWAP

  • You are looking at the first ever - HONDA CR-E
    This is a 2003 Honda CRF 450 dirt bike, that is running a 12kW electric motor, with 4 manual gears and clutch. The electric swap has been pulled from a Nicot E-Beast / AdmitJet Armor (they use the same engine and trans) and installed in the Honda chassis.
    The 12kW motor, 72V50Ah battery, APT72400 controller, 4 speed transmission and clutch are all stock, with no modifications.
    The bike is running flat track suspension, which is why it's sitting so low.
    This is the first ride after completing this awesome build. There are still some tweaks that need to be made, but overall, this is a great starting point I'd say.
    According to the GoPro GPS data, the top speed reached in the video is 77km/h (48mph) - mind you the bike would have gone faster, but Shae from @electricmx ran out of road.
    I think we need to take this bike on an open road and do a proper speed test.
    Spring cannot come quick enough!
    What do you think of this build?
    What do you think the first mods should be?
    Should we race the CR-E against some other electric dirt bikes??

    Dude after working on cars and bikes for 20 years all that tuning and teardown mess really burns you out. Going electric was the best decision for me,less downtime and more clown time 😅

      @paulyplewa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good point… there is much less tuning and downtime with electric. As long as you get your controller figured out you are ready to rip! The charge time does suck, but when you’re ripping you’re smiling that’s for sure!

      @@paulyplewa that's the only downside..charging really blows but my Energica charges in about 20 or so minutes with the rapid charger. Hopefully somebody brings rapid charging to smaller batteries soon. 20ah shouldn't take 8 hours to charge 🥹😭

      @@roodick85 yeah exactly. As the technology improves the charge time will get quicker. Which will get us back riding even quicker

    Did it take a lot of modifications to make this conversion work?
    Been wanting the admitjet but I’m wanting a frame that’s solid enough for mx

      I would say it was fairly easy to do just build some new motor mounts and cut the rad-supports off so battery would fit in frame and made a mount for battery to the motor but you will need a tig welder for the aluminum

    • @paulyplewa
      @paulyplewa  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is not extremely difficult, but does require lots of patience and access to some tools. Having a lathe, mill and welder helps. The front rad support had to be cut, 4 custom motor mounts were made, 1 battery mount and battery strap were also made.

    Hey I just bought this bike it rips so much power I’m impressed. Is there blue tooth on it or away to connect my phone to see my battery level ect ?

      The neighbour was pressure washing their driveway. It's annoying, but glad we at least got to do a small test on these e-bikes!

    Can you buy the motor and everything as a kit? Anyone making mounts, etc. for this conversion?

    • @paulyplewa
      @paulyplewa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can purchase the motor, battery and transmission from the manufacturer. It is not available as a kit, but you can buy everything individually. We had to custom make our own mounts. Anything is possible if you want

    The frames are no where near the same the suspension in the early 2010s had major upgrades doesn’t even feel like the same bikes plus theirs restyling kits that make them look absolutely brand new and the suspension brake everything else chassis related aftermarket down to even what color bolts you want are their 2010 plus so yea…..

    That frame is to heavy for the 12kw electric set up. The Cr 80 frame will be prefect 👌

    • @paulyplewa
      @paulyplewa  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Compared to an 85cc, this frame is much heavier - but it makes it easier and more realistic to ride.

      Sorry the bike has been sold already! We were not able to have it on the scale. But it felt lighter and more nibble than the stock gas version. The centre of gravity is lower than stock which is dope
