Another great video. I met the New Zealand gal in La Ventana BCS where I kiteboard. She had just about finished the Baja divide. Sounded like she loved it. She was great to talk to. She mentioned that she was interested in going from Alaska to Argentine some day. I bet she does. Keep up the good work, Ryan.
What makes cycling special to me is that it slows me down enough to appreciate being here rather than wanting to be somewhere else. It opens up my heart to how amazing it is to be present. I loved seeing your interaction with that family. Cycling turns simple thing into beautiful events. 🙂
@@duzer I had a really bad fall the year before the last, and I stopped riding because I let fear take over. But I miss that road... So I decided this spring I will be there again.
Your summary of Dr. Spencer’s nugget of wisdom on changing your mindset when you don’t like something was a great lesson for Zoe and Sam (and everyone else) to hear as we watched as a family. Thanks for the ride and for your endless positivity. Olé!
Ryan Van Duzer my dose of goodness in my week. You mange to encapsulate why I love bicycle touring. I have ridden lots of rides in Australia and one in Germany and Austria. Unfortunately I am now not riding much as I am home looking after my terminally ill wife. My big goal once she is gone is to ride around Europe for 3 months and reconnect with all the good people in the world. Everyone talks to cycle tourists. We are non threatening and always seem to stoke interest in the people we meet. Thanks for brightening what is a pretty sad time in my life. And give Amelia a big hug.
Sounds like your wife is lucky to have such support and love. Wishing you both moments of laughter and love if still possible. I know first hand how tough it can be supporting someone you love until the end. So soul soothing to have a meaningful goal to move too as a next stage. Wishing you lots of goodness in life!
When you were talking about changing the way that you look at things I was reminded of a quote that I read a few years ago just after I had finished a three hour shoveling session. "If you fail to find joy in the snow, there will be the same amount of snow in your life, but less joy." Its weird to say, but it changed my life because I can apply it to so many events.
Greetings from the Canadian prairies. Ryan, your entire channel is "good for the soul." I really appreciate your reflections and your adventurist spirit, and you never take things too seriously.
Thank you for another outstanding video. Joshua Tree park is so special and unique. Meeting and riding with the family warmed my heart. About a month or so ago there were two Brits riding the busy road that you mentioned. They were bicycling from Miami Florida to LA. Their ride " Two bikes, One wheelchair" was to raise money to buy adaptive chairs, bikes etc for disabled children. Francis pulled a trailer with Justin's wheelchair, while Justin pedaled a hand bike ( he had lost the use of his legs a while back) Their goal was to raise £20,000. They raised over £163, 000!!!!
Fantastic video Ryan, its so heartwarming to see families out cycling together and how cool was Shea? All the way from New Zealand and she has only done a 4 day trip in NZ, so inspiring like yourself👍
I love your content Ryan, I’m mainly a mountain biker but I am fascinated by bike packing. One day I’ll work up the courage to go on a bike pack journey
Happy you didn’t get shot! Always interesting when the best America has to offer (folks like yourself), have to occasionally intersect with the worst America has to offer. Love that you always take the metaphorical high road. Stay safe.
Duzer! You have inspired so many to get out there. Your energy has added immeasurable smiles and miles. Thank you for posting your journey and sharing with the world. You are literally Vitamin D!
Hey RVD. Freakin’ loved the book!! That was a wonderful read and travel log. Thanks for the share and work required putting it out. Also, I used to live in Coachella Valley 45+ years ago. I have biked on some of the same roads in the valley, Anza Borrego and up to JT. Nice to see it is still there and still awesome. This has been a wonderful video series. Thanks!
I LOVE Joshua tree. Visited in 2020. No one there. Amazing place. Also, I'm super jealous of Steven and his family. I'd love to ride Joshua tree with you. Great vid as always. Thanks for the hard work filming and editing.
I am glad you had a good experience in Slab City. Dr. Spencer seems like an interesting and eclectic person. The person who had the back injury reminded me of the people you met at RAGBRI. You always have a way of lifting up peoples spirits and inspiring them ," to get out there." I am also disappointed about the amount of liter that is in our National Forests and Deserts. This issue has definitely been a systemic problem. I have read about some Airzona Trail hikers having people shooting near their tent and people don't realize the trail is there. I believe it is just a matter of more education and signs to make everyone safe on the trail. You're an awesome human , Ryan. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
