Man, people really get their pants in a twist over the official tournament rules not being implemented in a friendly game posted on youtube. This magic content is super good though, keep it up!
Indestructible permanents can still be put into their owner's graveyard by other means, such as by the "legend rule", by being sacrificed, or (in the case of creatures) having zero toughness.
BloodravenD It depends which set you are playing. Some involve a mulligan where you can scry, others are just like you said, and others let you mulligan for free first. It's different for each thing you're playing
Hawk52042 really I thought it was only in some formats, generally I always just went by the house rule. But maybe I'm confusing commander with standard
7:50 Am I right? Sjin should have used the Pathmaker's ability to buff itself (it has 2 power or less) and then use the instant to un-tap and attack with +2/+2 unblockable for 4 damage to Lewis. You would need to get your stack right but I'm sure this would have been possible. Polite corrections accepted :)
Couldn't Lewis have used one of his Menace creatures earlier to force Sjin to either take more damage or lose one of his non-god creatures? I don't play magic, so I may have miscounted or forgot the happenings of a turn.
I think lewis might have been able to win if he sacrificed a card instead of cycling for no point. He would have been able to survive the last turn if he sacrificed the mummy instead of cycling a card. He would have gained 1 life. And had two attackers with menace and had one person to block so sjin couldn't have attacked with the two 2 attack creatures. Leaving lewis on 1 and sjin on 9 with two attackers with menace gg
It needed to discard a card also when activating the effect not only pay the mana cost so mostly he couldn't as he discarded his only card to activate it once
With Sjin's Pathmaker Initiate, can he use it's active ability (which is activated by tapping it) from the tapping of the card from attacking? Or can it's active only be used by forgoing an attack with it.
Somehow I'm getting triggered at Sjin calling Hazoret a "He" She's a beloved mom to all of the denizens of Naktamun. And the city's most worthy sons and daughters earn the priviledge of dying at the tip of her spear if they prove themselves worthy of the afterlife... Amonkhet is a weird place...
Sjin's gods ability doesn't it do 2 damage to Each player? aka himself included. I haven't played magic before but isnt that what the card says it does?!?! Or if it says each player the controller gets to chose a target?
I really appreciate that you two see where possible mistakes you may have made in your lines of play or thought. Those are good traits to have in this game I wish you well in your magic journey! You should visit tolarian community college and really fall down the rabbit hole of Mtg!
Sorry, that is incorrect. "506.4b Tapping or untapping a creature that’s already been declared as an attacker or blocker doesn’t remove it from combat and doesn’t prevent its combat damage."
I thought that minion that exerted can't be untap on the following turn? Lewis and Sjin had completely forgotten about that. Welp its the Yogscast we're watching
What I like about electronic card games is, apart from being less batshit boring, the RNG. You can't summon a random card with a physical deck... at least not to the same effect.
I always wanted to get into Magic the Gathering but, I could never afford to keep up. LOL I spent way too much money on Yugi-Oh back in the day. >_< I miss playing physical card games.
Hextech Art & Gaming try playing yugioh now, all the top teir decks cost a couple of hundred dollars. Not to mention and this could just be my locals, some of the things people say behind your back if you beat them with a none meta deck made me never go back.
Sooooo since you guys barely have any idea what you're doing at Magic but you're sponsored by WotC, I'd gladly join the Yogscast team to help judge/coach you all on the rules and stuff like that :D
Good games guys and dont mind all the wannabe proes in the comment´s. Hope you had fun, you should really read the story on magic homepage its exciting and makes alot of the cards fit with the story. Both Hazoret and Bontu are female deities so is Oketra the White god, the Green god Rhonas and blue god Kefnet are male
actually, correction, you cast synchronized strike before damage was going to resolve, so you would have untapped the Pathmaker Initiate, making it a 4/3 and then no combat damage, as they would have both exited the red zone, and Dune Beetle had nothing to block.
i am so triggered at how the beetle thing went down because when a creature is untapped during combat it ends the combat because you would be attacking and then not attacking and since lewis had declared blockers he couldn't get back into combat so lewis should've have still had the beetle for a longer period of time.
Jaylan Riorden nope untapping does not cancel the attack, it can be useful for kind of temporarily “giving” a creature “vigilance”. For example an instant might let you untap a creature and draw a card, so you can “give” a creature vigilance for a turn and draw a card.
The requirement for Synchronised Strike was the card be tapped (to allow it to untap), otherwise it was an illegal move. Since your card only taps AFTER you attack, technically it was an illegal move by Sjin and he would have lost his 2/1. But who cares, it's magic play it how it feels right not stupid rules :)
Razmatschannel Firstly, they don't need to be tapped check the gatherer for its rulings and second of all it can be used after blockers being declared in response to the damage step where damage is exchanged so sjins move is legal and it isn't a fail. Maybe😒
Next month MTG Arena will allow friends to play each other. My name on Arena is McKeever0004 come and play me online. I live in Texas and am probably on the North American server
although I really loved the content I just want to help Lewis out here. God's can only attack when their requirements are met. Sjin once attacked with a card in hand, and Lewis attacked while not sacrificing. he also cycled when he had a card reducing this to 0. Despite this, the content was fantastic, and although an advertisement, I love any form of magic from the yogscast.
+slayer of worlds They've admitted they aren't sure in previous episodes. There have been actual MTG rule pros in the room while filming similar MTG matches in the past with Games Night that have helped alot with specifics like this, but they're on their own on this one.
I think lewis would have been able to win if he sacrificed a card instead of cycling for no point. He would have been able to survive the last turn if he sacrificed the mummy instead of cycling a card. He would have gained 1 life. And had two attackers with menace and had one person to block so sjin couldn't have attacked with the two 2 attack creatures. Leaving lewis on 1 and sjin on 9 with two attackers with menace equaling to 10 attack plus a way to do another point of damage with the god's ability. gg
From the Comprehensive Rules (Archenemy: Nicol Bolas (June 5, 2017)) 103.4. Each player draws a number of cards equal to his or her starting hand size, which is normally seven. (Some effects can modify a player’s starting hand size.) A player who is dissatisfied with his or her initial hand may take a mulligan. First, the starting player declares whether or not he or she will take a mulligan. Then each other player in turn order does the same. Once each player has made a declaration, all players who decided to take mulligans do so at the same time. To take a mulligan, a player shuffles his or her hand back into his or her library, then draws a new hand of one fewer cards than he or she had before. If a player kept his or her hand of cards, those cards become the player’s opening hand, and that player may not take any further mulligans. This process is then repeated until no player takes a mulligan. (Note that if a player’s hand size reaches zero cards, that player must keep that hand.) After all players have kept an opening hand, each player in turn order whose hand contains fewer cards than that player’s starting hand size may look at the top card of his or her library. If a player does, that player may put that card on the bottom of his or her library.
this wasn't an official tournament. they are entitled to play with thier own house rules. Get over it, there's no cheating if everyone plays by the same rules.
Big ups to the editor for changing the attack/health values on the cards
Strachan it's power and toughness nerd
You mean Strength and Life
You mean Length and Girth
You mean time and space
you mean height and width
Even though these are ads I'm enjoying the content, please continue making this content!
Diggysean Get over it how esle are they meant to make money with youtube going down the toilet
What are you even talking about, Matt Tenaihi? He said he didn't mind the ads.
Also, why do you keep using several spaces between your words?
Yeah Matt I think you misunderstood my original post bud, I said I enjoyed it lol.
Why would sponsored content be any worse than non sponsored content?
suomiprkle Usually the sponsored content is still entertaining, but occasionally you get stuff like the Crusaders of the Lost Idols, which was 👎
Man, people really get their pants in a twist over the official tournament rules not being implemented in a friendly game posted on youtube. This magic content is super good though, keep it up!
kill la kill profile pic, noice
Sjin and Lewis content is always so chill, I love it.
Indestructible permanents can still be put into their owner's graveyard by other means, such as by the "legend rule", by being sacrificed, or (in the case of creatures) having zero toughness.
Waited whole day for this!
Sjin, your activated abilities, that do not tap can be used multiple times. Your god could have been hitting for four instead of two.
he also would have needed to have more than one card to discard each turn though.
The editors of this series are doing an incredible job
I think if we were to see their hands it would be more interesting.
JabbaD Hutt like at tournaments
I think that would be far too triggering!
Every time they called Hazoret and Bontu "him" I screamed "HER!" at my phone.
oh thank god. I was hoping that last play wouldn't be missed. cheers to the winner
you get to scry 1 when you Mulligan
no you don't. Mulligan is just shuffle your hand back into your library and redraw with one fewer card.
BloodravenD yes but when you decided you are going to keep your hand of say six or five etc, you get to scry 1
BloodravenD It depends which set you are playing. Some involve a mulligan where you can scry, others are just like you said, and others let you mulligan for free first. It's different for each thing you're playing
No, you always get to scry 1 after deciding to keep a mulliganed hand. This has been the official rule in all formats for a while now.
Hawk52042 really I thought it was only in some formats, generally I always just went by the house rule. But maybe I'm confusing commander with standard
I'd really love to see you guys play some decks you've made from a bigger selection
They're not playing with sleeves 💔
Tom is going to be shuffling Vindicate unsleeved. Think about that.
Thomas Fisk R.I.P NM condition
Oh shit the end is nigh...
if it wasnt for the fact that they dothh have gods, i'd be fine with it. but with some value cards in their decks its slowly pissing me off.
They just opened them. XD
28:07 it was at this moment, lewis knew, he fucked up.
Couldn't Lewis have used one of his Menace creatures earlier to force Sjin to either take more damage or lose one of his non-god creatures? I don't play magic, so I may have miscounted or forgot the happenings of a turn.
Sjin had enough health that he could've just taken the damage. Lewis pretty much did as much as he could.
Leaving lewis on 1 and sjin on 9 with two attackers with menace
gg
Sjin should have been activating his ability twice a turn instead of once, killing Lewis even earlier.
It needed to discard a card also when activating the effect not only pay the mana cost so mostly he couldn't as he discarded his only card to activate it once
Alyssa Sundale you're probably right on that one...
With Sjin's Pathmaker Initiate, can he use it's active ability (which is activated by tapping it) from the tapping of the card from attacking? Or can it's active only be used by forgoing an attack with it.
sjin played properly with syncro strike good job sjin! also i guess lewis forgot he doesnt have to pay for cycling?
Somehow I'm getting triggered at Sjin calling Hazoret a "He"
She's a beloved mom to all of the denizens of Naktamun.
And the city's most worthy sons and daughters earn the priviledge of dying at the tip of her spear if they prove themselves worthy of the afterlife...
Amonkhet is a weird place...
Indeed and Bontu is a "She" too
With legs like Bontu's I'm not sure how anyone could confuse them
Ernie Spratt No one gives a fuck
nerd alert!
Someone who doesn't wear a collar, whenever they are outside, and so have a permanent sunburn on their neck.
Whoa beard. The hair may be a curse but Sjin looks good either way when it comes to the facial whiskers.
Really nice and easy to follow for new players! good job guys
Sjin's gods ability doesn't it do 2 damage to Each player? aka himself included. I haven't played magic before but isnt that what the card says it does?!?! Or if it says each player the controller gets to chose a target?
no its 2 damage to each opponent
nope, it says "each opponent" meaning the player(s) that you're playing against.
It only does damage to opponents :) I am guessing it is worded that way in case you are playing a 2 vs 2 or something?
Thanks for the clarification!
It attacks all opponents in a 2 vs 2 or FreeForAll
I really appreciate that you two see where possible mistakes you may have made in your lines of play or thought. Those are good traits to have in this game I wish you well in your magic journey! You should visit tolarian community college and really fall down the rabbit hole of Mtg!
This video was really entertaining, keep um coming !
Good small hands reference about the orange baby Lewis
Is there a wrap around straight in Magic.... Or is that only Devon rules?
Synchronized strike is useful for defending when you have tapped creatures, on the attack it would cancel the attack lol
Sorry, that is incorrect. "506.4b Tapping or untapping a creature that’s already been declared as an attacker or blocker doesn’t remove it from combat and doesn’t prevent its combat damage."
at 19:13 why did he tap the middle card?
28:29 The Handshake Tease
you guys should get more into this and play Commander
You guys should try playing the board game 'King of Tokyo'
how come the video game has a free mulligan? :3
You guys should try playing the board game 'King of Tokyo', I have played it and founded it an enjoyable game
I thought that minion that exerted can't be untap on the following turn? Lewis and Sjin had completely forgotten about that.
Welp its the Yogscast we're watching
Hello San No one exerted until the very last turn. Its a may use ability not a have to so it never was exerted.
Whoops, my mistake. I wasn't paying attention, I thought Sjin exerted his Bitterblade Warrior on 19:16.
What I like about electronic card games is, apart from being less batshit boring, the RNG. You can't summon a random card with a physical deck... at least not to the same effect.
"Mull down to 5? You're mad."
Is he? Watch the video to find out! There is always a method to madness.
they forgot that summon sickness could block
when?
No they didn't. The second attack against lewis - lewis blocked with the beetle he summoned on his turn (which had summoning sickness)
I like it, let's see you guys play modern or legacy
Good job sjin. I hoped you noticed the play.
Lewis V who?
I always wanted to get into Magic the Gathering but, I could never afford to keep up. LOL
I spent way too much money on Yugi-Oh back in the day. >_< I miss playing physical card games.
Hextech Art & Gaming try playing yugioh now, all the top teir decks cost a couple of hundred dollars. Not to mention and this could just be my locals, some of the things people say behind your back if you beat them with a none meta deck made me never go back.
Lewis also could've tapped to cycle before it died, with the 0/1 looter
Lewis could have left 2 mana up to be used by Bontu to heal 1
can u guys do more star wars armada?
Has lew lew been working out?
Well played Sjin! Had Lewis on the ropes all game.
love these videos
Police sirens in the background...
Couldnt Lewis have used his ability on his god to survive the attack?
Anyone else really interested on what's going on outside their building? LOL
Sooooo since you guys barely have any idea what you're doing at Magic but you're sponsored by WotC, I'd gladly join the Yogscast team to help judge/coach you all on the rules and stuff like that :D
Keep doing magic pls
With Hazoret's discard ability shouldn't Sjin have taken 2 damage as well?
Aidan Bell Nah, because the ability says each opponent, and not each player
I suppose that makes sense if there are other game types in which you have more than one opponent
Nicky Jeppesen The story reads like a 5 year old wrote it...
Well I like it
When Sjin has lethal but doesn't realise and starts counting Lewis' damage #dickrip
i just saw the setup vedio and saw this like 6 mins later
Sjin ~ "A lot of the cards in my deck want me to have a small hand size."
Lewis ~ "Like Donald Trump."
I see what you did there ;)
Perilous Crushios It's a little hard not to.
sjin didnt draw on turn 2...
actually, correction, you cast synchronized strike before damage was going to resolve, so you would have untapped the Pathmaker Initiate, making it a 4/3 and then no combat damage, as they would have both exited the red zone, and Dune Beetle had nothing to block.
I cringed every time Lewis flicked his finger across his cards bending them.
Good
lewis was DESTROYED
Almost as good as Car Transport Simulator 2013.
Remember if u mullgian u can sry 1 new rule after zendikar
#SJINITTOWINIT
It's one free mulligan
Frostmourne HUNGERS!!
give us Tom! TOM PLS
"each"
also just so you guys know you can "untap" creatures that are not even tapped, you guys really need to go read the rulings on cards
sjins rando pick is winning him the game so far
Okay but does anyone else think sjin looks like rotten Robbie
Go Sjin!
Yay, he won!
Am I the only one who thinks that Pauls voice really doesn't fit how he looks? it's a little unsettling
Why does Lewis have all these reputations for being amazing at games but always lose on film
He is a gentle God
Can you play s.o.s the ultimate escape please you would love it it's spoopy action packed and hilarious at times
i am so triggered at how the beetle thing went down because when a creature is untapped during combat it ends the combat because you would be attacking and then not attacking and since lewis had declared blockers he couldn't get back into combat so lewis should've have still had the beetle for a longer period of time.
at least I think from my understanding of the rules
Jaylan Riorden nope untapping does not cancel the attack, it can be useful for kind of temporarily “giving” a creature “vigilance”. For example an instant might let you untap a creature and draw a card, so you can “give” a creature vigilance for a turn and draw a card.
If gods are indestructible why do they have health?
Oreange :3 They can still "die" from -1/-1 counters.
Oreange :3, they can be exiled.

sjin also takes damage from Hazoret's ability. it's to EACH opponent
Lewis is such a try hard
Sjin it to win it.

The cards states that Sjin can attack with 1 card or less in his hand.
Oops. my bad! D:
cue turps
sjin 4 the win
it felt really good to see "know it all" Brindley lose this round to Sjin
lol this Lewis guy cheated a few times in the game
can anyone tell me wtf is happening? This looks like one of those nerdy card games that I could get into...
i hate hiq most people play mtga and not play with cards
You do get 1 free mulligan!
They have different house rules perhaps.
Actually no you don't
+slayer of worlds They've admitted they aren't sure in previous episodes. There have been actual MTG rule pros in the room while filming similar MTG matches in the past with Games Night that have helped alot with specifics like this, but they're on their own on this one.
+Keani Gibson Prove it then.
Because it didn't happen at the grandprix it's only two headed giant that you have a free mull
10:16 right before lewis said "like donald trump" i said to myself "like trump"
twenty sixth!!!!
I think lewis would have been able to win if he sacrificed a card instead of cycling for no point. gg
Yesh Lewis current tournament rules have 1 free muligan
you go down to six and scry 1. I have no idea where you got that information.
Can you stop spreading misinformation jguitar151, there is no scrying with a mulligan.
From the Comprehensive Rules (Archenemy: Nicol Bolas (June 5, 2017))

BloodravenD jguitar is right. There is no free mulligan in 1v1. When you go down from 7, if you keep the hand, you get to scry 1.
Noooo SLEEVES!!!! UGHH!
Nooo SLEEVES*****!!!!!
can't believe I made such a blatant mistake.
Haha, points for admitting to it at least :)
FUCKING SLEEEEEVVVEEESSS
Stop talking!!!!
2nd?
ALWAYS GET 1 FREE MULLIGAN IN A MAGIC TOURANMENT DAMMIT LEWIS YOU CHEATED SJIN OUT OF CARDS
this wasn't an official tournament. they are entitled to play with thier own house rules. Get over it, there's no cheating if everyone plays by the same rules.
Bro you don't I played in the Sydney MTG Grand Prix I play fnm also
