anyone else notice that Tom misread the card that blocked Duncan's almost full assault at 25:18 and it stops all damage dealt to the creature it's played on, not all damage. So he was really just protecting snake-face mcstabbersons
what boggles me about this is that i can understand misreading/understanding a cards effect but how on earth did tom not question that insanly powerful effect only costing 1 white mana AND then on top of that it lets you untap a creature as well. hes an experienced magic player surely that should have rung some alarm for him that this card seems insanely busted
In response to the snake venom question: Snakes have a special, poison secreting gland in their head much like we have salavatory glands in our heads. Due to this, it can be assumed that the poison from the snake never actually enters its bloodstream, but rather the neurochemical that causes the gland to produce poison travels through the blood stream. This means that a snake's bloodstream is not attuned to the toxicity of the venom and would likely be able to be poisoned if it were to bite itself. This is just my theory, can someone confirm if any of this is true?
I don't know about the snake itself, but snakes that eat other snakes, such as King Cobra and Woma Python certainly do have this immunity, so I would imagine more cannibalistic species would definitely have resistance to their own venom.
I was responding to gssdg sdg who compared snake bites to us biting our tongues and/or lips but yeah i had just gotten up and watched this, and saw the comment. However, many of my friends would say I always act like i'm high most of the time, but that is due to me just being entirely unfazed by anything going on around me. But his argument made no sense given that the question was do snakes get poisoned from their own venom. I don't think that snakes just bite their tongues, i don't think they CAN, given that they have the poisonous fangs at the sides of their mouths, for most species. It will hurt if they manage to bite themselves...
I disagree. Following the rules isn't exclusive to pro play not to mention I'd much rather have a judge than have a disappointing win off of one silly card misread. Also wtf is a 5 star tournament?
By the way they also used "judges" during some of their D&D games if you'd remember. They did rulings kind of quietly and off camera so it really didn't disturb much of the game
Really loving these, please consider doing more even without being sponsored. Assuming you play it in your free time as well, since actually buying cards just for a series wouldn't really be profitable.
Amonkhet is such a fun set! Especially a black - white combo is incredible. Black can spawn a ton of zombie tokens, while white can spawn a lot of other kinds of tokens (and has a lot of embalm cards). There are also a couple of white cards that activate when a zombie or token enters the battlefield. One of them doubles the amount of tokens you get, so if you combine a black zombie deck with a white token deck, you can get so many creatures out in no time (if you can get that card early on, if you can get multiples of it, then it's just insane).
Some misplays, but still fun. Great to see you realize all the cool little synergies and interactions, like using the Soulstinger counters to kill your nerfed Attendant so you could embalm it. That is the kind of stuff that makes magic so great.
Enjoyed these. Actually got me to go out and buy a Duel Deck for Magic The Gathering which I never thought I'd say after getting into LCGs like Game of Thrones and Netrunner. With that in mind, I don't think I'd ever want to actually begin the collectable aspect of MTG again but I do enjoy the basic mechanics of the game and it's fun playing it. So, got myself the Duel Deck so I could have a bit of fun with friends. Keep this up as others have said and explore other games too. Would love to see some Netrunner or more Star Wars: Destiny. Been playing a lot of the later. Got my eKylo & eAsajj Deck + Phasma + 2x Stormtroopers up and rocking now.
I remember i had the ultimate troll deck, i had about 10 counter cards, a few dragons, a couple enchantments to prevent attacking and blocking, and the Ship breaker Kracken ( its a 6/6 with reach, and i can pay 8 mana to give him 4 +1/+1 counters. He also taps 4 of the opponents creatures who remain tapped as long as he is alive) it resulted in a lot of painful 2 shots and pissed of mates
i'm late watching these but when you summon a creature doesn't it come into the battlefield tapped? Unless it says otherwise. At the start Tom could have attacked but they both put their creatures out untapped.
way way later but yeah you seem to be confusing summoning sickness and tapping. summoning sickness just means you cant attack or use tap abilities the turn the card comes out but it is still not tapped and can even be used for other cards effects that say tap cards
Porkchopio 2 is mana cost and can be payed with any colour then the colour has to be paid by that mana... so a car with a 2 and 2 reds costs 4 but can be played for 2 reds and 2 of any other mana
The snake thing reminded me off the fact that you can very violently kill a scorpion by pouring alchohol on it getting it drunk and having it stab itself and it will die of its own poison
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but thats actually a myth that has been generally debunked. Just for a start most scorpions are immune to thier own venom.
By the way, for those not super familiar with MTG. If a player would start the game with less cards than the opponent, that player is allowed to Scry 1 (Look at the top card of your library, you may put that card on the bottom of your library) at the beginning of their turn. So if you mulligan and your opponent doesn't, this would apply.
This is incorrect - almost correct. It doesn't matter what your opponent has done, or how many cards they have. EVERY player who starts the game with less than their "starting hand size" (7 cards for normal games) may scry 1. From the comprehensive rules, 103.4: "... After all players have kept an opening hand, each player in turn order whose hand contains fewer cards than that player’s starting hand size may look at the top card of his or her library. If a player does, that player may put that card on the bottom of his or her library." magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/rules or mtg.gamepedia.com/Mulligan
Google/ask nerd friends if there is a local gaming store that holds magic events (friday night magic or such). That's the best place to buy from as, while maybe not the cheapest (although sometimes the cheapest), it gives you a place to play. Magic is better when you have a variety of decks to go up against, and playing people at a store is easier than trying to find players otherwise. Of course, if there's not a friendly local gaming store within an hour of you then you can always buy them online or at some big box stores, but then you might have trouble finding other players.
Uh, I am very new to Magic, and I have a quick but important question- are cards from any expansion allowed for battles? Or do both players need to have cards from the same expansion? In other words, can I use older cards against someone with newer cards?
It depends on the format. Usually there are only around six of the latest expansions able to play in 'standard' format. They cycle out sets to encourage people to buy the new cards. However there are other formats with different rules, such as Modern and Legacy. If you look these types up, they have their own brackets of which sets are allowed, ban lists, etc. There are also fun differnt ways of building a deck, like big EDH decks or Tiny Leaders. I would recommend finding a magic shop local to you and go to Friday Night Magic tournaments. There's usually draft decks (decks made with cards on the fly) and/or constructed decks (decks you make a home & bring in) competing in different brackets for prizes.
Magic is quite costly and you definitely should atleast know 2 other people, who play it, so you won't be alone. If you want to try it out first, play "Magic Duels" on Steam for free. It's online or vs. bots and explains everything to beginners. Also you can decide the rules, when not playing in an official match. I mean, you and your buddy you're playing against can decide your own "house rules" ^^
Don't buy them (they're good for this expansion only, and it'd be better for you to get the newest set!), if you're getting into it, there's a new expansion coming out in a few days, I recommend buying a starter deck and if you have the money (it isn't much) a pre-release pack from this new set. A really fun way to get into magic would be to attend a pre release event, which may require a little research to find a local one but it will be 100% worth it! I know I didn't describe shit properly so if you have any questions reply to this and I or some random fella will answer it for you!
The best place to buy packs is at a local store that holds magic events, so you can support the place that you're playing at. I do not however no where you live, and even then would not know of the local gaming stores. Google is your friend. As for buying cards online there are numerous sites that let you buy specific cards instead of packs, I don't know enough to be able to tell you which is the best though.
it's quite fun and you can get all cards for free, if you play enough. Of course there are also micro-transactions, if you want to buy them. I like to play "magic duels", but it sucks that you can't communicate with your enemy, not even able to say "Hi." or sth like that. The amount of playable editions is ok, more than a thousand cards. Also you can get quite alot of cards just by playing the story lines. For beginners (I assume you are one) magic duels is also very easy and helpful, as it has a tutorial for every card-ability, which gets recommended automatically mid-duel (against computers).
Good news m8! Now Lewis and Ben are playing mtg arena on Lewis and Ben save the world! I quite like them playing on arena because it's much easier to follow
All the complaints about Tom misplaying/cheating, Duncan was also guilty early in the game when he gave his sphinx haste and attacked after already declaring attack with the naga. For the sphinx to have been able to attack through it's summoning sickness it must be given haste before the attack (combat) step/phase is entered. These guys are hardly proficient MtG players, and no judge is present, so everyone is going to make game changing mistakes.
I thought the defender chooses the defense order when blocking with multiple creatures? The attacker doesnt choose which creatures he kills, the defender does.
Well it looks like they've been sent a certain number of whatever magic calls its prerelease fat packs now which are always pure garbage. There's a couple of okay 1 drops in their decks but nothing amazing or deck making. I imagine if they weren't being paid for this they wouldn't even be playing.
they played a lot of naff cards huh? they're entertaining and I always like their vids but if they're being sponsored by wizards they ought to try to get the rules right to a degree. see LRR preprerelease for reference
I'm really glad Duncan won considering Tom cheated 2 times. He might have not realized it but Tom embalmed his cat an extra turn when he shouldn't have been able to since the cat should have been exiled at that point. that turn he blocked the 6/4 with the cat saving himself 7 damage since the cat had lifelink and he gained 1. also, the spell he cast which "prevented all combat damage" for the turn only prevented damage to the one creature the spell untaps. that turn Duncan did a swing with several creatures for a good amount of damage. the game should have ended several turns earlier then it did because Tom would have had to chump block to save himself from dying and Duncan would have been able to overpower him with his creatures.
UM, I UNTAP YOUR GUY, AND PREVENT ALL DAMAGE THIS TURN... (re reads card as he's putting it in discard, probably realized at this point he was wrong and said fuck it rofl)
Please make more of these after the sponsorship ends :)
Diggysean I doubt they will. MTG won't feel the need to pay them if they just make the videos anyway.
I mean, they enjoy playing Magic, so I don't see why they wouldn't play more. It's not like they only play sponsored things.
AthenaWhisper because why do something for free when you know someone that will pay you to do it.
You like literally ALL of their content that isn't sponsored?
AthenaWhisper no because there isn't someone willing to pay them to play it. Unlike MTG.
"I'll tap your crab" worst chat up line ever.
anyone else notice that Tom misread the card that blocked Duncan's almost full assault at 25:18 and it stops all damage dealt to the creature it's played on, not all damage. So he was really just protecting snake-face mcstabbersons
Yeah, that was a huge mistake. If not for that, Duncan would have won quite a bit earlier.
Yep.
He protected the thing he wanted to kill lol
what boggles me about this is that i can understand misreading/understanding a cards effect but how on earth did tom not question that insanly powerful effect only costing 1 white mana AND then on top of that it lets you untap a creature as well. hes an experienced magic player surely that should have rung some alarm for him that this card seems insanely busted
Do you guys play Magic outside your channel? If so, it would be great to watch a tournament with your own decks
I gues not.they play so bad! XD
In this case you never played EDH or normal against me ;)
Lewis explained in one of their draft videos that they prefer draft because you know it's not some gimmicky cheese deck.
Tom's shirt is a pillar of hope for Poolagooners everywhere!
25:20 "Prevent all damage that would be dealt to *it* this turn. It being that creature only. =|
Shadownet Spy I forgive him, that's how I've read it until now...
that was a MONSTROUS misplay
If they actually read the card, then duncan would've won.
Yeah, and that's quite sad really... oh well.
Duncan did win.
Huge props to whoever edits these, the overlays are incredible.
In response to the snake venom question:

This is just my theory, can someone confirm if any of this is true?
D47 0n3 6uy Yes that's largely correct. The snake's blood is not venomous.
We don't have venom, and it still hurts when we bite our lips and/or tongues. Really, you're argument is invalid.
This is true unless in the case of a snake that can choose whether or not to inject venom as the was no need to evolve as such
I don't know about the snake itself, but snakes that eat other snakes, such as King Cobra and Woma Python certainly do have this immunity, so I would imagine more cannibalistic species would definitely have resistance to their own venom.

It will hurt if they manage to bite themselves...
Good banter in this video. "He was my first" - priceless XD
Mistakes are normal. Having fun is more important. Please continue to play and learn, having a "judge" check your games live would be good too :P
a judge would ruin the videos imo, its supposed to be a casual game, not a 5 star tournament
Rules!

You gotta love how salty duncan is about that healing card lmao

Tom, you can't split the -1/-1 counters mate, that's a misplay.
dunc made at least one bigger misplay not finished watching yet
dude they dont even block XD
not sure they needed to. i mean i would because i'd be cautious, especially against duncan playing red, with haste creatures, but that's me.
These are some of the best sponsored videos.
Enjoyed these. Actually got me to go out and buy a Duel Deck for Magic The Gathering which I never thought I'd say after getting into LCGs like Game of Thrones and Netrunner.

this ad has succeeded, i want to play
1:14 - Oh what are the odds, i just can't even.
Your suppose to declare all attacks at once
Duncan just needed to rename Tom's cat as "Tiddles", and it would have had a nasty "accident"
with the "finish" card, says destroy target creature...tom could have chosen Duncan's creature instead of his own right?
Can you guys do a booster draft? Sealed seems to be soo boring with this set? In a draft you can at least try to get certain mechanics going.
did Tom go 2 turns without drawing sound 8 minutes in?
With soulstinger, the -1/-1 counters can't be distributed, all the -1/-1 counters have to be put on just one creature
i'm late watching these but when you summon a creature doesn't it come into the battlefield tapped? Unless it says otherwise. At the start Tom could have attacked but they both put their creatures out untapped.
I'm even later replying, but no, unless it's specifically stated on the card, a creature doesn't enter tapped. It's so you can still use it to block
way way later but yeah you seem to be confusing summoning sickness and tapping. summoning sickness just means you cant attack or use tap abilities the turn the card comes out but it is still not tapped and can even be used for other cards effects that say tap cards
Dont the crab lose health when it blocks?
same
same
Darkmatter relatable
Me too
same
I dont get how the mana works, it'll say like 2(symbol) next to ability and then they're like 'i'll tap 4 to do this ability'
Porkchopio 2 is mana cost and can be payed with any colour then the colour has to be paid by that mana... so a car with a 2 and 2 reds costs 4 but can be played for 2 reds and 2 of any other mana
Ah I get it, thanks
25:34 Tom should've lost here, it's stop all damage dealt to IT this turn
the title shouldve been "Tom gets crabs in his beard!"
The snake thing reminded me off the fact that you can very violently kill a scorpion by pouring alchohol on it getting it drunk and having it stab itself and it will die of its own poison
jae norton will also happen if you put it on an ant hill. That way you don't waste any precious booze.
Same
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but thats actually a myth that has been generally debunked. Just for a start most scorpions are immune to thier own venom.
was gonna say big ups to the editors for changing power and toughness levels but they didn't revert turn only changes several times
I mean guess I'm being over critical just bothered me xD
I don't think tom paid the mana for "finish" and he misread the card that saved him and he split the -1 counters when he can't

freetalkn657 Uh, I dont think I have a local Magic Shop, but thanks anyways. Ill keep that in mind.
freetalkn657 Wait, I just checked and there is one nearby! It looks kinda shady, but hey, they sell Magic cards, so who cares?

Use dice like everyone else does.
I would think that if a venomous snake were to bite itself, it would not take the effects of the venom because it's own body has adapted to it
I don't really understand magic but did tom attack with the flying creature twice on the same turn? 12:44
Fabhaz no, they cut out duncans turn in editing (you can see duncan having an extra card in hand during toms second attack)
ah ok, thanks
yes. yes he did.
yeah they edited out duncs turn. You can tell because the bird gets magically untapped
hey anyone got good advice on where to buy magic cards online or store?
The best place to buy packs is at a local store that holds magic events, so you can support the place that you're playing at. I do not however no where you live, and even then would not know of the local gaming stores. Google is your friend.

What a match.
Naga pls.
Most snakes are immune to their own venom.
"Naga please" Lol 😂
Duncan "Crab Commander" Jones
Duncan "The Bloodthirsty" Jones
Tom "The Healthy" Clark
Djeru's Resolve doesn't prevent all damage guys
Some snakes yeah. Like a rattlesnake isn't immune to it's own venom
I'm no scientist, but the general consensus of google says otherwise.
That return card to hand would be nice to play against the healing building thing Tom had :D
Toms shirt is Great, Imma have to order me one!!
Can't you only bring the cat back once since it turns into a token after resurrection. Don't play so idk.
partingofways That's right, but they only brought it back once.
it always drives me mad when people don't stack their land cards Dx
I really enjoy these kind of Videos. But it's hard for me to watch them due to all the errors they do (like missreading cards etc.).
lol 13:40 Tom attacks twice with same guyband forgets to heal
how much poon do you think duncan drowns in? i would say around 500 gallons
Snakes are immune to their own venom, just for reference.
TOM!!!!! YOU NEVER USED THE LIFELINK ON YOUR CAT TO GAIN 3+ LIFE EACH ATTACK!!!
These games are getting complicated. Can you play this on a computer?
yes on steam there is a game called magic duels
it's quite fun and you can get all cards for free, if you play enough. Of course there are also micro-transactions, if you want to buy them. I like to play "magic duels", but it sucks that you can't communicate with your enemy, not even able to say "Hi." or sth like that. The amount of playable editions is ok, more than a thousand cards. Did anyone else think Duncan's ribbon was one of those Nazi swastika armbands at first glance?
All the complaints about Tom misplaying/cheating, Duncan was also guilty early in the game when he gave his sphinx haste and attacked after already declaring attack with the naga. I failed....
Lol hour of devastation is coming out and they are doing amonkhet
I'll play a mountain
NOOOOOIIIICCCCEEEEE
Mountain OP confirmed
I thought the defender chooses the defense order when blocking with multiple creatures? The attacker doesnt choose which creatures he kills, the defender does.
Nope. CR 509.2, active player announces creature's damage assignment order.
Well, shit. Looks like my clan has been doing it wrong for years.
Everybody I. The office or most of the office for one big tournament
Naga please
Nice casual game...
Well it looks like they've been sent a certain number of whatever magic calls its prerelease fat packs now which are always pure garbage.

Tom: Naga Rogue...Naga please ahahahahhaha
Why doesnt the fucking crab die, it only has 5 hp?
Because in magic monsters heal back to full at the start of each turn.
it regens at the start of the turn
Oreange :3 5 dmg was never dealt in one turn
Creatures regain their toughness (not hp) during the end step
oh fuck off
Just one tip, the cards could be a litter bigger on the screen
Omg tom has no sleeves... RIP £30 card...
which card are you talking about here?
Ah, I see Tom is using the 'I don't read my cards and then interpret them beneficially to me' tactic. A real classic in casual circles!
holy shit tom has a poo lagoon tshirt
Naga please.
sup
they played a lot of naff cards huh? they're entertaining and I always like their vids but if they're being sponsored by wizards they ought to try to get the rules right to a degree. see LRR preprerelease for reference
He has been attacking with the god without any cards in his hand. So he really shouldn't be winning at this point in the video.
nothing wrong with that?
also what point is this point?
Let's face it, the only reason Duncan has his phone out is because the case matches his shirt. Not even mad.
Th s is great but they need a ref
i think duncan attacked with the god the turn it came in, without giving it haste
His god already had haste
Duncan could have won so much sooner lol
Tom, what the cheats? Djeru's Resolve doesn't work that way.... :)
no sleeves :/
it would have been funny if Tom tore the vindicate
The girl on the right is cute!
