      great point! I didn't put it together what you said though I know how she did in all the events! Plus that AA gold :) And to think, Marta actually wanted her to be a beam and bars specialist, and Valeri had to fight for Nastia to compete in AA b/c he KNEW what his own daughter was capable of. The Liukin family has some serious "winner" genes lol.

    She gets so much hate nowadays from younger fans but they can’t appreciate the elegance and perfection Nastia showcased. She was so unique and still is. We have yet to see another gymnast like her.

      She was amazing at keeping her legs together (as odd as that sounds) on bars! a small thing that takes a lot of effort. and hyperextended knees and impeccable toepoint creates such gorgeous lines, like Komova, Pavlova, and Porgras, too.

    I've seen these routines over and over, and its still amazing every time. When she was injured everyone was so down on her and she really rose up at the Olympics. Forever and always my favorite gymnast.

      Yeah, I was really impressed at the perfectionism both she and Valeri emphasized in the tiniest of details. If you think about it, she even incorporated her FACE in the floor routine where she always open with a powerful stare as part of the choreography. I can't think of other gymnasts that paid such extreme attention to details. I really admire her.

      @@VeeVe3 Khorkina is 5’5” and that’s considered almost too tall to even be a gymnast nowadays. The taller you are, the harder it is to rotate/control yourself in the air. I believe it is very unusual to be Elite level at Nastia’s height, let alone be on top of the sport. Hats off to her, huh?

    I feel she is one of the most stunning gymnasts of all time. She had super hard skills and gorgeous artistic routines. Just pure brilliance! Her uneven bars routine was one of the greatest I've ever seen!

    No wonder she was trained by soviet hands of her father.

    Most elegant gymnast I have ever seen at uneven bars. Nastia always get's to the top point at each element of exercise with so much courage and 100% confidence - wonderful!!!

    I still really do believe she should’ve scored higher on vault in the AA compared to the qualifications!! She stuck it in the AA but got a lower score compared to the higher score in the quals with a shuffle in the landing. I love her sm!!!

      I think her height and form were superior in the quals vault. The stuck landing was phenomenal but I found the quals vault more inspiring as she soared so high with basically perfect form.

      @@makelovenotwar9941 not to mention an insane bars routine that was packed with so much difficulty that she could take a huge step on the landing and still get the highest score of the night on any apparatus. It was honestly the best performance in the individual AA all time for me. She was just on.

    16.900 was and is a GINORMOUS score for bars! If she hadn't taken that tiny step on the dismount, Nastia would've scored a 17.00! 😳

    One of the best part of this video is Valeri's reactions. I get the sense that he's a coach who will give you realistic feedback, so getting his praise means you really did well. I know he doesn't have the best reputation as a coach with other gymnasts, but it's still great to see his interaction with Nastia here.

      He’s actually improved in his coaching since then if you see how he and his wife coaches Konnor it very much like how he coached his own daughter if not slightly better so I think he’s definitely learned from his mistakes in the past

    Nastia is really outstanding.I really enjoy her performance, in best traditions of Soviet classical gymnastics, with clear lines, athletism as well as artistism. Her father was also very famous athlet and talented gymnast, Valery Liukin. He was born in Kazakhstan, he represented Dinamo sport club of my home city (Alma-Ata), but later he moved to Moscow, and then to the USA with his family. It was a crazy time for former USSR (90-s).

      I forgot how high the scores back then could be, nowadays breaking the 15.00 is considered a challenge. But I prefer the 8 element code to the 10, gymnastics is much more interesting with only 8 elements being counted.

    First of all - love the slow-mo parts where we can really see the more intricate/fast spinning moves. But also, at 7:28 - does anyone know why they don't pull that blue mat closer to the low bar? It seems like it would be so easy to trip over it and ruin a dismount that would've been good otherwise like what happened at 1:40 (don't know if she fell b/c of her own mistake or b/c that mat was right there).

    I always wonder what Nastia could have done had she pursued her mother's sport. She is built for rhythmic gymnastics but her elegance and power turn her gymnastics into works of art. She's truly poetry in motion and I feel lucky I was able to watch her while she was in her prime and competing.

      I get the sense that Nastia thrives on competition and on mastering advanced technical skills. I'm not sure rhythmic gymnastics would have kept her interest. Not that rhythmic gymnastics doesn't take skill and practice, but it isn't the type of skill that gives you an adrenaline rush and keeps someone determined to tackle the next problem.

    If not for her injury in 2006, this would have been the expectation for her at 2006 and 2007 Worlds too. So glad she was able to regain her form in 2008.

      Анастасия Валерьевна Люкина дочь чемпионов из СССР - гимнаста из Казахстана Валерия Люкина и гимнастки Анны Кочневой. Родители эмигрировали в США, когда ей было 2,5 года. Валерий основал собственную гимнастическую академию и был тренером дочери. Так что не надо распространять дезинформацию, о том, что места ей в России не нашлось.

      @@Olga-bl6jd в одном из интервью Валерий Люкин сказал, что вопрос о выступлении за Россию стоял, но был отклонен Россией из за иммиграции. Так что читайте внимательно не только википедию.

      TH-cam предлагает к просмотру ролик с гимнасткой с русской фамилией. И первый же комментарий на русском языке создаёт ложное впечатление о том, что талантливую спортсменку вынудили эмигрировать, да ещё и с родителями. А история совсем другая. И о том, за какую сборную выступать. Это вопрос договороспособности. Что он хотел ,и кто и что был готов дать. Где дали больше, с теми и договорились на тот момент.

    I still think she should have gotten a gold on bars. THEY TIED. They both should have gotten a gold. The tie break rules are completely ridiculous. SAME SCORE IS THE SAME SCORE. FIG needs to remedy the tie break practice.
