- We were handed the keys to the new 2018 Mazda CX-9 (Grand Touring trim) to experience two weeks of the family car experience. We quickly discovered that Mazda focused all of its energy on making the CX-9 fun to drive. The CX-9 is powered by Mazda’s first ever turbocharged SkyActiv engine, which produces over 300 lb-ft of torque while still retaining good fuel economy. It may have some questionable infotainment tech, but the CX-9 is chock full of safety aids and a car-like driving demeanor that makes it an interesting choice in the segment.

Just purchased a white signature and it is beautiful. The interior is very very nice
I bought this car two weeks ago and I love it, I have no problem with the acceleration and all of the controls are easy to reach. I love it more every time I drive it.

The ONLY downside to the vehicle is the lack of remote start. In my climate, remote start is imperative. I read that an aftermarket product is available and controlled with a smart phone. But it's list price, installed, is $800!
Spending an extra 5k on the signature trim for brown leather and Japanese wood is not worth it lol
Iron Shaft the premium you're gonna pay for stepping up to the Signature trim level is roughly about $2700 in the US not $5K from Grand Touring to Signature level that is.
This is certainly a driver's car - as are all of the Mazda line-up!

I forgot about that one. It's essentially just nicer leather and trim I believe.

Jared Rosenholtz to each their own... I prefer the Signature trim level because it just has those extra little tidbits that let everyone else know that I went all out and got the top of the line CX-9... Again, no argument just personal opinion.
Jeffrey Tinsley , I agree mostly because MSRP is only 2 thousand more for the signiture than the GT model.
I can't wait until they offer cooled/ventilated seats as with the updated mazda6.
Nestor Chavez ventilated seats maybe deal breaker in warmer climates.
I have one. I’ve driven BMW’s most my life. I originally bought a Lexus NX when my daughter was born. I never liked that car. It was small and the cargo capacity was horrible. Take away the Lexus badge and all you have is a stupid RAV4. Oh the infotainment system is way worse than Mazdas. Anyway, after one long trip in the NX, I realized I needed a bigger car. Looked at a Highlander but knew that I wouldn’t love it. It’s so generic. Went to see a CX9 and loved it immediately. Drove it and was thoroughly impressed. Drives significantly better than the Lexus. Took it home that day and I absolutely love my CX9 GT AWD!! I know other cars have more space or horsepower but they don’t drive like a CX9 does.
That’s my experience! If you want a great looking sporty suv, it doesn’t get better than the CX9!
Beautiful car very clean design. I absolutely love this car, the power is just enough to my driving style, I don't need extra hp.
Are you comparing it to tahoe or escallade in regards to space? Coz even those car has small cargo and less leg room in the 3rd row, , my bmw x5 has less storage and sucks after 50K miles. Wish i had a mazda..
Not so, kids are grown, need the space for traveling but I want a fun suv to jet around visiting the kids
I'm waiting to receive mine hopefully within this week =)) can't wait! Black ext. beige leather seats (GT Trim), btw I've seen somewhere that you can adjust the height of the trunk door ;)

I think 25 more HP and a better infotainment system would make this SUV tops in its class.
J High it's funny, in didn't think it needed any more power. The torque was just so delicious. Infotainment, definitely! Just give us CarPlay and Android Auto!

250hp seems a little underpowered in my opinion for an SUV this size. 275-280hp would be a sweet spot in terms of power.
J High I thought so too before I drove it, but it's that sweet torque that makes it's usable. Of course, I would NEVER object to more power;)

J High sweet spot 310 ft torque... what part of torque do u not understand.. slowness. Torque very important especially on turbo
If this thing made another 50hp, it'd be THE perfect 3-row SUV. I'm considering the MDX instead since it's lighter on it's feet.
Drive both and see for yourself. The Horsepower on paper vs. MDX doesn't fly in the real world. MDX is a great truck, but feels truck like vs. the better driving dynamic CX-9
@@rupjolly I recently drove a 2016 MDX with Tech Package and I respectfully disagree. The MDX drove very close to my BMW 535 which was pretty impressive.It has a "sports mode" which tightens up steering. The MDX is comparable to the X5, which also handles really well, albeit with a rougher ride.
I still have yet to drive the CX-9, but I probably won't since I'm not a fan of the 7.5 second 0-60

Bong Lim in terms of driving, yes. Infotainment isn't the best, but some people don't really care as much as I do. That's an easy fix, driving characteristics are harder to perfect.

Mazda has substance but they just don't have the leadership in the automotive industry. Always behind to copy the big boys.

Your company has substance, but you don't have a clue how to capitalize it. Always lacking in engine options, models, and always behind in leadership.
Get rid of the lame RX8 or put a decent reliable Sky- Active gas V6 or V8 in it. Expand your Sky-Active gas engine technology in your RX8 and shock the big boys in the game. As for the rotary engines it's wasting your company $$$$$$$$$$$$, brain power, and manpower.
Build a urban mini pickup while all the competitions has none. By using the 3's engines and keep the price down to earth for all Janes and Joes. Made that user & price friendly for folks of all ages and health conditions. Lower the heights of entry and the cargo loading areas. Build it simple not just the fully dressed pricey models. Late then add AWD. Don't follow F-150, Ram, GMC, or the Trundra or its smaller sibling TACOMA.(Too Big, too wide, too long, too bad boy, too brutish, too tall, too high entry & cargo lift height, use too much gas, too hard to wash & wax, too pricey for real work)
Don't follow GM= Gross Management tries to build costly corporate butt hurt limited collectors vehicles regular folks don't buy it cause that giant to bankruptcy.
Put a premium V6 in the Maxda 6 would bring more buyers plus a sport wagon too. Add a brand new full size MAZDA 8 sedan and sport wagon (not SUV) with a V8. Add AWD option later if necessary.
Put a simple light weight cheap to manufacture full time hard top on that Miata MX5 Come on, there are many parts of the world couldn't get warm sunny days all the time. Not everyone likes bird droppings, dirts, and cold wet weathers. Put at least another 75 - 175 HP into the weak Miata would help. That alone would put fears & envy eyes to the competitors in the sport car world.
Stretch that already good Mazda 3 another 4-10 inches really helps the rear seating comfort and rear foot space areas. Then your 3 has matured to perfection to beat the competitions. Stay away the lame diesel engine business like VW. It's a waste of corporate 💰, reliable disgrace, and company effort.
Stop just listen to your past loyal customers. They are too small for your company expansion plans. You need to build up your products and brand name to all buyers of all ages and income not just the wannabe premium brand segment.
Too scare to step out of your comfort zones MAZDA ?
Then stay small and keep shrinking in the global market.

Mazda just loves racking up those "most fuel efficient automaker in the US" awards. I think that is why it doesn't build more "big" engine cars.
