I have a similar noise not when turning but after driving and breaking a little and only from one tire in the rear. Its a constant sound and goes away while braking and at high speeds, could this be the same issue didn't want to get my roters changed if I didn't have to.

I was having this issue with my kid's car. My daughter told me she was hearing scrapping noises coming from the left front wheel. I pulled the wheel off and inspected the calibers and rotor. Everything looked ok. When I looked at the shield, it was obvious that it was making contact with the rotor. I bent the shield away from the rotor. I was relieved that it was an easy fix at no cost.

I had the same issue, but have one additional concern.
Do you think that this issue can affect your cars range? Because my lexus rx that is supposed to get 365 miles on a full tank, only made it 265 miles.
      Now
I inspected the dust covers and noticed a hole rubbed through the rear right cover. After bending it back, the notorious sound is gone.
But I am curious if i can expect an improvement in how far i can drive on a full tank.

Thank you! I just got done replacing sway bar links on my chevy malibu. I took it for a test drive and immediately I could hear an awful scrapping noise coming from the front, it got worse with speed so I turned around to go back home (assuming the worst) before causing further damage. Found this video and instead of taking my tires off again I just took a flathead and pushed on the dust shield through the rim all the way around both front tires then drove it again and sure enough the noise was gone. This video saved me a lot of problem solving.

I'm having intermittent rubbing noise from front driver side and have changed the wheel bearing, new brake pads and still it persists just not as bad. So I have notice the dust shield and rust on the outer perimeter of the rotor. So, that's my next idea.

Just had this problem and the clips that hold the pads were slightly over sized so we ground them down but not enough on the passenger side so the clips on the outer side were rubbing on the rotor causing a squealing or high pitch noise. So make sure to check the clips that hold the break pads.

Another reason for this type of noise is that upon getting new tires, sometimes the weights used on the inside of the tire rim used to balance the tire can rub against the brake parts. This just happened to me on my Honda CR-V. The weights were rubbing up against the brake pad retainers and causing a horrible scraping noise.

After changing the cv axle with no results, I figured out that it was a corroded rotor rubbing against the dustplate and metallic tips of the brake paid retainers.....I've been doing my own suspension repairs for decades and never before has this happened (perhaps because I usually change rotors when I change brake pads)! This video is a good tip that I haven't seen anywhere else! This tip should be mentioned in all of those other videos dealing with bad bearings and cv joints. My issue started on a 2015 nissan versa with 42K as a very slight clicking noise that was worse when i turned the car to a particular side. Same symptom as a bad cv axle. Within a few weeks it morphed into a loud scraping sound, especially on turns.

Thank you for sharing this info with your viewers. That scraping sound is a lil like how my rear brakes sound on the right.
Part of me was thinking they were gritty from dust that blows about in our cul-de-sac complex, and the accumulation was causing a build-up, and then a part of me thought the pads were scraping, which they probably are.
The sound isn't a continuous one, but is more sporadic as though there was a few spots rubbing and also when I use the brakes. I sprayed both rotors on the outer edge with WD-40 and they got a lil bit quieter, but they do make some noise. Will have to get them checked out soon, but at least I don't drive my van much.

I'm trying this, it happens intermittently and it looks closer than the other dust sheild. I was also racing against the rain when I finished the brake job and the wheel slipped sprained my thumb and rolled around under the rotor. I also added extra lube and did a light sand on what appeared to be glazing, an i think that's what was causing squeaking on the other side. Hopefully all the noise is cleared up

When I put my Torota Corolla in reverse I hear a high pitch screetching sound that at first sounded like a humming noice. It is coming from my rear passenger side tire. My brakes are fairly new and the sounds are not a grinding sound. It sounds almost like something is stuck in the tire, but I only hear that sound when I back up even if I do not apply the brakes at all. I do not hear that sound when driving forward. Any ideas what is might be? THanks!

Was having the same issue on my Forester; a slight metallic tick tick sound from a front wheel that changed pitch based on how fast the wheel was rotating. With the rims I have I didn't even need to take wheel off, just stuck my finger between spokes and pushed the top of the shield back a tiny bit. Took all of 10 seconds.

Can a small stone, be trapped between the dust shield and the plate? I’m getting a scraping and rattling noise.

Mine was doing this scraping after having new brake discs and pads, so I have just ripped off the dust guard. Will have to buy a replacement but at least I can drive now without causing any more damage 😊

Another helpful tip is you could actually take a pneumatic wire wheel if you have one and remove loose or built up rust

  • @GionnoRoman

In some cases, Because the dust shield is made of aluminum, over time the bolts will eat through the aluminum causes the dust shield to dangle. Regardless of how you bend it it will still scrape. In this scenario you will need a new dust shield

Something im going to check in morning. No other video mentioned dust shield.✊👍 My pads are good and rotor brand new. If the dust shield doesn't fix the problem.... Could it be the caliper & or mounting bracket??🙏

Having the scraping sound nothing wrong with my brakes but haven't had them done it's coming from my left driver side and it's kind of like a clicking scraping sound like a wheel bearing or something like that?

  • @JagedNS
    @JagedNS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Does a CRV have this on the rear tires? Ours makes a noise when lightly braking around 20kph or so but it’s not a constant scrape, it’s slower or faster depending on the wheel speed and it’s like: sh sh sh sh not a constant shhhhhh if that makes any sense lol

If a piston was not compressed enough after putting a new rotor and brake pad on, would that cause a grind on the front of the rotor?

  • @modiddly1663

I got new pads and rotors from you guys it’s been a week and they are grinding

  • @stevengordon4154

So he mentioned it makes the noise while turning left. I have a similar noise with slight rights like changing lanes. 2 seperate mechanic shops could not replicate the noise and told me my pads are good...
Also, apparently my vehicle is structurally sound (their words) and I have nothing to worry about mechanically. Its more annoying then anything to be honest but I also want to ensure the safety of me and my family.
    Any suggestions?

I pulled a fallen tree that was too much load. Front brakes on the side of the hook made a grinding noise. I replaced the brake calipers, and still a problem. I replaced the brake hoses and still a problem and a louder grinding sound. Finally I replaced the wheel bearing assembly and this was the cure. I must have broken the wheel bearing, bearing retaner.
Also the ABS light went completely off from going on and off.

I get this sound too, except it only happens when descending down a good sized hill. I have one on the way home that I hit every day and as I get about halfway down the road, I hear this scraping sound. It's coming from the passenger's side rotor area it sounds like. The only thing is, this is a fairly new car and isn't even 3 years old. What could be going on here?
