    Great video! We just came back from San Pedro, Belize mid July and you're correct the service is very slow and that took some time to get used to. However, gulf carts are like the main source of transportation. If you visit, you'll want to rent one. People are really friendly. One can definitely taste the difference or freshness in the food compared to the United States. Beaches are very beautiful and we visit "Secret Beach". We stayed at the Grande Caribe and it was beautiful...no complaints. I actually wouldn't mind living there for a year.

    Thank you so much for this informative video, Mr. O...to me it seems that even the Cons are not that bad...fresh, local food is cheap and clean brilliant! ...everything is slow paced...fine...so NO RUSH...that just adds to a certain desired quality in living...and also if there is a power cut...I wouldn't wait..I'd just go for a walk or read a book..do something in the garden or go to sleep earlier ..or see to that I have a kind of generator..for only the important gadgets like a fridge.. ;) and also..it helps with my healthy diet, when the processed food and sweets that are imported are so expensive that I am simply being put off buying that addictive stuff... my body loses weight and gains even more health...super ! and when it comes to alcohol etc...I wouldn't miss it as I do not drink anyways...the only thing that would go under my skin, would be the poverty of people...I would probably..rather tentative and humble try to make really good friends with the locals...learn from them and help them as I could....anyways...it all sounds paradisical...so Dear Mr.O thanks again and have a wonderful life there..... may be ...one day... I'll make it to Belize and have a look around in person... until then...stay save and sound and happy :)

    One of THE BEST and RESPECTABLE reviews on Belize. What I liked best is that you did your research beforehand, made an informed decision to go, learned more while you were there, and respected the country for what it is. Even if you made the decision it wasn't for you, your attitude seems one of respect. Belize is not Jamaica, Costa Rica, or the USVI. It's unique and beautiful in its own way and for some a week in Belize is enough and for others, they might see themselves there longer because that lifestyle works for them. Either way, I think you have to leave the entitled attitudes at home or travel to places more aligned with your preferences...but don't bad mouth those places that don't align. I never understood the concept of traveling out of the country only to go do what you could do in your own background/country. Of course, if you are contemplating relocation, a great many factors go into that decision, but there is no need to put down a whole country because it doesn't meet your needs. Check it off your list and move on. And if you can, share your experience in a respectful way so others hear you and can gain some real insight as well. Anyway, long way of saying THANK YOU FOR SHARING. (I think I've been holding that in for a long time.😂)

    One hour flight from Miami. Two hour from Houston. You can actually drive from Belize to Texas! You can also do a much quicker drive to Cancun in Mexico! Power outages didn't use to be so bad until the last 3 or 4 years. Belize electricity currently working on a plan to upgrade the grid system. Some areas or towns have it better than others. I think San Ignacio is getting the brunt of it because of its location.

    • @mr.o6447
      @mr.o6447  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true statement. I don't know if I would advise that drive from Belize to Texas! lol. I noticed it happened in San Ignacio more than San Pedro. Actually we stayed in San Pedro 6 months longer and it happened more in San Ignacio our first 3 months.

      @@mr.o6447 , many Americans do it when they are moving from US to Belize. This allows you to take all your precious belonging. Imagine a pickup truck towing a trailer. It usually takes 4 days if you drive 8 hours a day. It is wise to plan ahead, drive in daytime and target big towns for sleeping over. Mexico is a lot more developed and friendly (especially to Americans) than most people give them credit for.

    That advice at the end is the best. Cultural change doesn’t happen by a few outsiders getting annoyed by the culture that’s there. A better mindset is to adapt to the local culture and find ways to work around the things that bother you the most.

    No it's not easy to get your residency papers and I know. I just got my papers from immigration office this week and it took 4 years and 10 months for me to get my papers. You wouldn't want to know why it took so long. Belize is about money, money and more money. You it's a poor country. So lookout American dollars 💵 because that's the only thing they see here. Watch out for the con , there are deceitful people here just like everywhere you go. Just tell the truth and be honest about yourself and with others. Regardless never support the lie,no matter what country you are in. I don't have to embrace no lie to be apart of corruption. I embrace the truth and nothing but the truth. So be it.

    I just watched a video with a couple that was living in Punta Gorda , they gave a lot of negative report on Belize! Said all they had to eat at restaurant was rice & beans! It’s amazing how you can get different perspectives. The first video I watched, they said they were just there 10 days when they made their first video, a month later, their exit video! American blacks complain being in America, then the leave going to third world country including Africa, and continue to complain! I do not hear WP complaining, they have the money and understand what it is to live abroad… The young people go on vacation and love these places as tourist, that they show the best they have to offer… I really appreciate your blog, respecting the culture and did your due diligence gave you a much better perspective… I do hope your channel grow as I really believe you represent my country very well!👏🏽👏🏽👍🏾💕🙏🏽

Too many times we take a lot for granted, traveling will show you that..There is no perfect place, but there is a place you can grow and learn to appreciate...
      I love people, that’s why I love to hear you keep emphasizing to respect the people. There are good people and bad people, anywhere you go.....First you MUST visit, research, then go spend some time, at least six months to a year, then you more or less have experience living in that country, and that’s all it is, YOUR experience! Someone else can go and have a completely different experience...🤷🏻‍♀️
      Maybe one day we can connect in Belize city, that’s where I’m from, north side, Buttonwood Bay... When in Belize, I travel north, the River Valley, Orange Walk and Corozal. I know visitors are advised not to go to the city, and they don’t, but if you are from the US, urban is urban anywhere you go, and that’s where you will find the pulse of that country... It is a whole wide country - go find what you crave! There are actually people living in the United States that have never been outside there own hometown! Thanks broham for this video. Gives me a good sense of what to expect if I decide to stay there long term. I am a first gen my family is from there and I spend some time there as a kid and spent some Summers in the late '80s and early '90s. I went there recently in 2019 to take my grandma's remains back to Dangriga and have her official funeral there for all our family that lives there. I enjoyed myself I cried when I got there and I cried when I left. It's always been like that since I was a kid. I've been thinking about trying to live out there for a couple months just to see how it is but I often worry about jobs. So I've been looking for like remote jobs that way I can always take my job with me wherever I go. I'm assuming there's more work in the city I remember years ago there was a call center that was hiring I forgot the name of the company though. That's mostly the environment I come from is call center, medical record, and gig work. I agree with your sentiments in regards to the pros and cons and I also learned something new about maintaining residency for newbies. Due to my belizean background I can get dual citizenship because of my family being natives I still have the forms but I haven't filled them out yet or turn them in I have to go there in person to do that. I really wish they had an online application. Anyways good to know that there's cheap housing 300 something dollars for three bedroom upstairs downstairs house that's a steal! and I definitely expected the American imports to cost more but I guess it's just having to change the way how we eat when we get there. As they say When in Rome... Oh yeah I have a question can I order Amazon there? 👀

    Can you live on a $1000 a month social security there? I'm just asking it's a place that I would like to visit the see if I would like to live. There, as I'm looking for different places. That's not a new United States to move to. And I've just run across your channel. So I want to find out. I want to see this place. And I want to find out if it's a place that I can retire to

      I am sure you should be able to find something affordable in certain places on the main land. It will be kind of difficult trying to afford rent on the Islands.

    What would say about the medical system for expects and other people

    • @mr.o6447
      @mr.o6447  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Bruce, the medical system is pretty cheap in Belize compared to United States, but the medical care is not advanced as the United States. If you are in mildly good health it is great. If you have serious medical issues again, you may run into limitations.

      @@mr.o6447 - Oh, OK. I misunderstood, I thought I heard you say it was in San Pedro....and I have been eyeing Belize as a potential Expat destination for some years now but everything I would find in researching was that rents on Ambergris Caye were a bit higher. I was like "$330?? What a find!" Have a friend who is originally from Belize (Corozal) so I have been waiting on him to travel with me.....I imagine I will be looking at Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker and Corozal as my potential landing spots. Thank you for your reply.

      The realities differ depending on where you stay. Some cities have much better supply. You could also have a very small personal generator (something like 1500W). In Ladyville, most outages are restored within one or two hours. It does happen, but not all the time.

    Yea, the rain patterns can be weird, but it's never COLD when it rains and you dry off quickly. I've been in massive downpours that move like mini-tornadoes....you can see the rain travel along the hill lines.....but unless you're facing a hurricane, it's nothing that will stop you from enjoying a drive or walk.
