    All you need is a break my friend.. Just cut all the noise and get away from the screens(especially extremely addictive things like social media, scrolling, games etc.)for a few weeks. I managed to do it for a month and I can say that I've never felt this happy, relaxed and fresh ever since my childhood days. Even my depression which I had for six years is gone. I don't know how and why but there is something on those screens that slowly sucks your soul.

    I hope someone will read this, as it's some genuinely life changing information.
    Removing all your compulsions is extremely hard, letting go of that sense of novelty can be done, but it's extra hard.
    One thing you can do, if you struggle with the discipline, is keeping the habit but replacing it with something healthier.
    For example, I had a hard time completely letting go of the novelty factor of infinite scroll, but I ditched mindless doomscrolling on instagram stories, with infinite scrolling on art platforms (Cara being my favourite).
    I still scroll, but at least I only see beautiful art and my lust for novelty is still satisfied
    Same thing with wikipedia.
    Instead of wasting time on youtube shorts, I search for a random topic on wikipedia.
    Technically it's still procrastination, but at least much less destructive.

    As a 25 y/o high school teacher, I agree that the most pernicious mindset that has been readily propagated and just as easily swallowed is the idea that no one has control over their lives, and all misfortune is irreparably calamitous. I see this affecting all children, regardless of background, unless they are raised by fiercely encouraging and sensible parents, which is not many, as the parents themselves are usually prey to this mentality.
    This descent off the cliff is expedited by technology, of course; my students wear their airpods and headphones all day, including when I'm teaching. I used to think they were disrespectful and obsessed with pop culture, but I've come to the sad realization that they need a medium through which they can drown out the discomfort of their own thoughts. They simply cannot tolerate silence.
    I've used some of your videos in class for educational purposes, in a unit about habits, headspace, and consistency.
    I appreciate your concise, firm, and truthful approach in your videos, and you've made an impact on some of my students. Heck, you've made an impact on me. Thank you.

    I prefer to replace the term of 'brain rot' with the word 'temptation', since it's more or less the same thing (or at least a synonym of it). It can very much be controlled if you place barriers in the way to prevent yourself getting tempted in the first place. Have a sugar addiction? Make sure there's none in the house. Addicted to social media? Log-out every time you exit the platform making it hard to get in. Have a huge crush at someone at work, but don't want to risk workplace relations? Find ways where you can spend less time around the person (changing work hours, having breaks around different people, working from home, moving departments). There's almost always a tangible and practical solution for each day-to-day task and I believe everyone has the ability to achieve what they can.

    I hear you and I really want to embrace it. I love the meaning behind the thought. Sincerely love the video.
    But, like, there's the Stanford scientist who spent actual decades of study on this (among countless other theologians and scholars) who conclude that free will, ie the ability to make and b in control of each and every choice, is basically illusory and very much in fact executed based on external circumstances, stimuli, etc. This lining up with my own decades of life experience in which I feel like there's a little man inside my brain dictating everything I do and I'm just sort of along for the ride- hard work, self help, connections, medications, and therapy be damned. Not for lack of trying.
    So I just don't know how to reconcile these two things. I think it's just sort of a wash in the end, ultimately. I really don't know.

    3:42 I don’t agree with your sentiment here as I don’t think people consciously say that…
    These apps and the phones and these foods are intentionally designed to be addicting.
    People are doing this on a subconscious or unconscious level and that’s the danger of it.

    • @betterideas
      @betterideas  10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +8

      @davesims7917 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      @ Agreed…
      But again this is like telling a heroin addict don’t be a prey to heroin…
      By the time people are so addicted to it it’s very difficult to get out of it.
      As much as your solutions are in theory correct they are not as practical or as simple as you may be presenting.
      The way they design these phones and apps is very insidious.

    • @aaaaooooii

    Sometimes when I get stuck or lost in the trance of reels I’ll see something that is just so cringe or brain rotting that it literally pulls me out of the illusion and I’ll just start yelling “brainrot brainrot” as I close the app and put my phone away.

    6:00 Okay, I really disagree with this. Yes, we are not in complete control over the election, however it is not completely out of our control either. It is a very grey area. Voting is not pointless. It does make a difference, albeit a very small one. If more people understood this, then America, the country I'm currently living in, wouldn't have so many issues.
    Second, right now, a lot of us don't know what we have been dealt. There is a very good reason why there is so much drama in America right now. A lot of us are terrified and are terrified for a very good reason. You Canadians have a decent healthcare system, the women in your country don't have to worry about getting healthcare(Which in turn means having more control over their life.).
    I don't know about Canada's economic situation, but I can tell you are fairly well off right now, but what I can say is, don't judge poor Americans! Getting a full time entry level job is extremely difficult because employers don't want to have to pay for health insurance. So, a lot of us are working multiple part time jobs and don't have health insurance. I'm in a terrible financial situation because of circumstances that were truly outside of my control, and I'm currently doing everything in my power to do something about that.
    I don't know how difficult it is to get out of poverty in Canada, but it is extremely difficult in America.
    Poverty is something that heavily affects productivity, for both psychological reasons and situational reasons.
    Also, I want to mention, yes. I did vote.
    Please don't judge us and trivialize what we are going through by calling it "drama". I love your videos. You are actually one of my favorite TH-camrs, and I've taken a lot of your advice and it has really helped me out. It is partially because of your videos that have helped me develop the right mindset to help me climb out of poverty.
    Continue what you are doing...just please don't mention American politics again until you understand more of what is going on down here.
