All you need is a break my friend.. Just cut all the noise and get away from the screens(especially extremely addictive things like social media, scrolling, games etc.)for a few weeks. I managed to do it for a month and I can say that I've never felt this happy, relaxed and fresh ever since my childhood days. Even my depression which I had for six years is gone. I don't know how and why but there is something on those screens that slowly sucks your soul.
No matter what you tell them, the only way they will understand is by hitting rock bottom. I watched hundreds of videos like this for years and nothing, until I hit rock bottom at 26. That was the moment everything changed. "Change only happens when the pain of being the same, is worse of the pain of changing".

It's crazy how many stupid notifications people have. I've reduced mine to be only messages and emails, and even these are only in the notification center so they don't go off. When you turn off all these notifications and uninstall the useless apps you'll grab your phone and realize there's nothing there for you. I've had that a few times
Don't even try to bring Skibidi Toilet to these things. It's literally not brainrot anymore ( apart from early episodes ). One of the best messages on the internet right now, the world needs to hear this before we as a global society deteriorate to the point its too late to come back from.
I hope someone will read this, as it's some genuinely life changing information. Removing all your compulsions is extremely hard, letting go of that sense of novelty can be done, but it's extra hard. One thing you can do, if you struggle with the discipline, is keeping the habit but replacing it with something healthier. For example, I had a hard time completely letting go of the novelty factor of infinite scroll, but I ditched mindless doomscrolling on instagram stories, with infinite scrolling on art platforms (Cara being my favourite). I still scroll, but at least I only see beautiful art and my lust for novelty is still satisfied Same thing with wikipedia. Instead of wasting time on youtube shorts, I search for a random topic on wikipedia. Technically it's still procrastination, but at least much less destructive.
As a 25 y/o high school teacher, I agree that the most pernicious mindset that has been readily propagated and just as easily swallowed is the idea that no one has control over their lives, and all misfortune is irreparably calamitous. I see this affecting all children, regardless of background, unless they are raised by fiercely encouraging and sensible parents, which is not many, as the parents themselves are usually prey to this mentality. This descent off the cliff is expedited by technology, of course; my students wear their airpods and headphones all day, including when I'm teaching. I used to think they were disrespectful and obsessed with pop culture, but I've come to the sad realization that they need a medium through which they can drown out the discomfort of their own thoughts. They simply cannot tolerate silence. I've used some of your videos in class for educational purposes, in a unit about habits, headspace, and consistency. I appreciate your concise, firm, and truthful approach in your videos, and you've made an impact on some of my students. Heck, you've made an impact on me. Thank you.
Whenever I actively avoid the distractions of social media, scrolling etc… I find myself especially critical and judgmental of everything I do, say and think. It is a double edged sword for me, to some extent the distraction of X (form of entertainment) is beneficial to my overall sense of mood.
You’ll see how quickly your mood will change if you took away your access to X. It’s genuinely scary how much I was distracting myself from how I was feeling with Instagram and TikTok.

I prefer to replace the term of 'brain rot' with the word 'temptation', since it's more or less the same thing (or at least a synonym of it). It can very much be controlled if you place barriers in the way to prevent yourself getting tempted in the first place. Have a sugar addiction? Make sure there's none in the house. Addicted to social media? Log-out every time you exit the platform making it hard to get in. Have a huge crush at someone at work, but don't want to risk workplace relations? Find ways where you can spend less time around the person (changing work hours, having breaks around different people, working from home, moving departments). There's almost always a tangible and practical solution for each day-to-day task and I believe everyone has the ability to achieve what they can.
