Along with these two, let's include Harper, Tarpley, Donaldson, Shrempf, Ellis, and Sam Perkins! What a team. I was there with season tickets in that era. What a team!
A duo that gets an overlooked from the 80s Alex English and Kiki Vandeweghe. I think the only duo in NBA history to go #1 and #2 in scoring(1982-83 season). They only had 4 seasons together before he got shipped to Portland for 3 picks that actually the Nuggets playoff wise.
Yup that's another one I'll get to eventually. Kiki could really fill it up, he had a few good years in Portland forming a bit of a duo with drexler too
Great vid. Derek Harper and Blackman were a great backcourt. Tarpley was the one that was a big problem for the Lakers. If he would have kept things together I could see that Dallas team making the finals one of those years.
Derek Harper is one of the most underrated point guards ever. The dude was a defensive lock. And was so good at facilitating when the the ball was in his hands
facts, but thats Native American. They only say Latin America to keep people from knowing the truth. Trust, even the "Latinos" dont know the whole truth. We have ALL been decieved and miseducated unfortunately.
Very impressive this duo had the success they had playing together on a new expansion franchise and eventually making the wetsern conference finals. Great video!!!
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I remember, Dale....Ellis, was pissed that he was drafted by Dallas, and had to sit behind Mark Aguirre and Rolando Blackman. Dallas also had Detlef Schrempf, too. And, that when the Sonics upset the Mavericks in 1986-87, it was the "Revengs of Dale Ellis." I don't think it should be thought of as "revenge." Ellis just needed to get into the right situation. As I put it, "Hey, it's not like Dale Ellis was playing behind STIFFS, in Mark Aguirre and Rolando Blackman."
Brah you will definitely will get some subscribers here soon you go in depth and give details with the hooper .. and you are picking out the hidden gems of the basketball world who were great in their own right . Keep up the work
Awesome TH-cam channel! All these players have a great story and would have blown up the internet if playing today. History of sports can’t be told without these guys
Blackman and Aguirre are without question one of the all-time underrated duos in NBA history. They just had the misfortune of running smack dab into a Magic and Kareem Lakers dynasty of the 80's. Otherwise they would have certainly had a legit shot at competing for a championship or at the very least getting to the finals.
That Dallas team, along with the early 70s Bulls' are perhaps the best teams not to win a title. You could probably also add to early 2000s Sacramento King's.
Aguirre is far more deserving of the Hall than Sampson, McGrady, JoJO White, Walton, Ming Yao, Bill Walton, John Havlicek, Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, so put him in the Hall and get it over with!
He went to the free throw line. Hit 2 free throws with no time left. That game went into overtime and the West won. If Blackman didn't draw that foul the East wins & Dr J would've been the MVP in his last all star game
Interesting Fact:Both Mark Aguirre And Rolando Blackman retired after 1993-1994 season…..Mark Aguirre:released by the Pistons in December 1993…..signed with the Clippers until being released February 1994 and retired……Rolando Blackman:retired after the 1994 NBA Finals…..played overseas until retiring in 1997….
Also, Aguirre took care of Tarpley for 2 years and kept him out of trouble, year 3 Tarpley thought he could handle himself, we all know what happened then. Too bad Motta was coach, I'm sure they could've found better. When Aguirre was traded away, they fell from 4th to 9th that season, some say because Tarpley was gone, but he was gone two months earlier.
In the 1984 draft, Dallas coul'd have draft Charles Barkley and John Stockton and become a dynastie. Instead they picked Sam Perkins at #4, and Terence Stansbury that didn't even play there, at #15. Barkley went #5 and Stockton #16... great scouting Dallas folks!
That was the era of the big man - and Dallas didn't have one. Nowadays you can get away with having a purely defensive center but back in the 80s - not so much. An all-star center to compete with Kareem in the playoffs would have put Dallas over the top back then.
Blackman was the guy who wound up being the big star that surpassed all expectations. He stayed in Dallas until after the 1991-92 season and made four All-Star teams. In the 1987 All-Star game, he was runner-up to hosting city star Tom Chambers for MVP; an honor that no Maverick has yet to win. He also had his number retired, which is a rare and distinct honor for the franchise. To me, as talented as Aguirre was, he could’ve been an even greater player had he been more coachable. He left Dallas to join a better team with greater star power, proving he could not be the leader he needed to be. I think we are setting the bar too low for the HOF if we try to put either of these guys there. They didn’t make any All-NBA selections and Aguirre only won two titles as a backup, despite his contributions.
Harper, Blackman, Aguirre, Perkins, Tarpley were a force in the late 80's. I really think if Tarpley had not had is addiction issues they would have stayed together longer and maybe won a title but Tarpley got banned from the league after 3 suspensions for substance abuse and the franchise kind of fell apart (all of the aforementioned except Tarpley were eventually traded) after that for a pretty long time until Don Nelson and Mark Cuban showed up and rebuilt the team. I loved watching this team play though they were always entertaining and always played hard.
It’s tough they broke up the duo after a conference finals appearance in 1988 and trading Aguirre for Dantley who was a bad fit for Detroit and didn’t get along with IT. Dantley was past his prime and retired after. Aguirre wanted out and trading Rolando to New York
They're Sprewell and Houston level. Kobe and Eddie Jones. Kobe and Glen Rice. Glen Rice and Steve Smith. Jalen Rose and Reggie Miller. Starks and D. Harper. Ron Harper and Danny Manning.
Aguirre: 2 Titles, 20/5/3.1 split, multiple College awards, multiple POY, 76-10 college record, could and did score from everywhere, played on an expansion team and lead them and then Detroit to 14 series wins. Not in the Hall. Dominque Wilkins: 25/6.7/2.6, few college honours, no titles, no trips to the Finals, only 4 playoff series wins. Poor outside shooter, known because of dunking. In the Hall. Adrian Dantley: 24/5.7/3, very few college or pro honours, no titles, ball stopper, one Finals trip, 8 series wins, teams always improved after he left, couldn't shoot or pass well. In the Hall. Bernard King: 22/5.8/3.3, few college honours, problems with alcohol, couldn't shoot the 3, 2 playoff series wins, in the Hall. Alex English: 21/5.5/3.6, no titles or trips to the Finals, few college honours, still a poor outside shooter, played on a run and gun team that inflated his stats. 4 playoff series wins. On pure stats Aguirre is a Hall of Famer if these guys are. Take in his College and Pro individual and team success (notably playing for an expansion team that got almost no national press coverage) and he's the best of this bunch by far.
Aguirre def deserves to be in the HOF 2× NBA champion (1989, 1990) 3× NBA All-Star (1984, 1987, 1988) Naismith College Player of the Year (1980) Adolph Rupp Trophy (1980) USBWA Player of the Year (1980) AP Player of the Year (1980) UPI Player of the Year (1980) Sporting News College Player of the Year (1981) 2× Consensus first-team All-American (1980, 1981) No. 24 retired by DePaul Blue Demons Mr. Basketball USA (1978) Third-team Parade All-American (1978) McDonald's All-American (1978)
He (Isiah) "tanked" his prime interview with the Mavs before the draft. He told Dick Motta he did not want to play for him because he gave his offense totally to the forwards. Love and Walker at Chicago, Hayes and Dandridge at Washington.
Along with these two, let's include Harper, Tarpley, Donaldson, Shrempf, Ellis, and Sam Perkins! What a team. I was there with season tickets in that era. What a team!

They formed the greatest offense in nba history.
@@ForgottenPlayerProfiles he also played some seasons with New York
And they gave up the most points!! They were the worst defenders I've ever seen
That was a dangerous duo in denver. Right along with Moncrief and Johnson
RIP Roy Tarpley 🕊

Do one on Detlef Shremp on of the most underrated players EVER. DOPE page showing love 4rm Seattle.
Interestingly, both of these players have Latin American roots. Aguirre's father being Afro Mexican and Blackmon being Panamanian.
facts, but thats Native American. They only say Latin America to keep people from knowing the truth. Trust, even the "Latinos" dont know the whole truth. We have ALL been decieved and miseducated unfortunately.
Ok
@SeeJayTML you're mad
Very impressive this duo had the success they had playing together on a new expansion franchise and eventually making the wetsern conference finals. Great video!!!
Why when New Yorkers talk about players being from NY playing in the NBA they rarley mention Blackmon?
Rolando is a class act and a pure shooter.
Price and Daugherty
The Caves had a legit Big 3 in the late 80's/early 90's. Don't forget Larry Nance. He was an All-Star as well.
This series screams Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.
They're not really disregarded at all.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Dallas had a LOT of talent at that time! I kind of forgot about Ellis and Detlef being there in their early days.

Thanks for making this video i sho nuff requested this because Rolando Blackman was so cold to me and so underrated.
Thank you 👍🏽 this is so true Ro and Mark great back court duo . ❤ From Toronto 🇨🇦.

This team and the Sonics of the 80s were the lakers main threats in the latter part of the decade. Well Sonics all decade
Love this channel!!!! Would you please do a video on Zack Randolph? Or Bonzi Wells?
Aguirre is far more deserving of the Hall than Sampson, McGrady, JoJO White, Walton, Ming Yao, Bill Walton, John Havlicek, Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, so put him in the Hall and get it over with!
Not Hondo, he is still the Celtics all time leading scorer bro...26k points, more than Bird😮
Agreed
Never the superstar McGrady was. I'll take Mullin and Richmond over Aguirre too, though it's close. McGrady easily the best of the bunch.
Thank you
The clip with Blackman trying to score on Bird, Erving, Isaiah, and MJ is funny as hell
He went to the free throw line. Hit 2 free throws with no time left. That game went into overtime and the West won. If Blackman didn't draw that foul the East wins & Dr J would've been the MVP in his last all star game

Correction:Mark Aguirre signed with the Clippers days before the 1993-1994 NBA season started after being released by the Pistons October 1993……
They definitely belong in the Hall.

The Mavericks should really honor these two. Its the franchises first two stars
Damn the mavs was drafting legends
They had some real Talent. Fun to watch, too. Just never had an outstanding center. James Donaldson was probably their best.
Aguirre taught Mike the post game
Aguirre taught Mike who lol😂😂😂, not Jordan... I got to hear this one ..
The 87-88 Mavs were crazy good
That was the era of the big man - and Dallas didn't have one. Nowadays you can get away with having a purely defensive center but back in the 80s - not so much. An all-star center to compete with Kareem in the playoffs would have put Dallas over the top back then.
Briefly had Roy Tarpley. They also had a big in Donaldson
James Donaldson. Tarpley. Sam Perkins. Casual. Btw Dallas was cheated in the 1988 WCF vs the Lakers
Blackman was the guy who wound up being the big star that surpassed all expectations. He stayed in Dallas until after the 1991-92 season and made four All-Star teams. Weren’t both of them of Panamanian descent?
Just looked it up, Aguirre is of Mexican descent.
Vincent is looks like Anthony Bennett..
8:15 Motta was so dumb
The Mavs should go back to Green full time!!!
Pistol Pete and Lou Hudson
It's an absolute joke than the Warrior's Run TMC are in the HOF, but Aguirre isn't. Much better college and pro career than all 4 of them.
Dallas had good team1988
Rik Smits next!
yes......... he was so underrated and shaq said that was his toughest matchup because rik smits was so skilled
Wonder what Blackman was yelling during that free throw
