I think we've gotten so used to expensive cars, especially those from Germany that we react negatively to cars that are priced less than them. The truth is that some of the cars from established brands are simply too expensive. That's why in markets where buyers have a bigger choice like north America, European cars don't sell as well. For me value is more important than price and I believe Chinese cars have caught up with established brands when it comes to value for money. They're no longer cheaply put together knockoffs
Yes some original thinking definitely going on here with GWM and the Ora (Goodcat). Squarely taking on the bigwigs in its class, the Fiat 500e, Mini e, Honda e, Peugeot 208 e....
This is where I think electric cars should sit. They are perfect for that 2nd car as a cheap city run around with occasional highway trips. I think GWM have nailed it here.
I agree with the concept though as a second car I’d rather sacrifice range, size and top speed to lower the cost. I was thinking top speed of 82km/h, and a range of 50km and pay no more than $20,000.
@@radart6037 Yes, I’ve often thought the same thing. I was recently tempted to buy an old Austin A30 and get it converted to short range electric as a second car. Another good body design is a car that I once had which is the the 1984 Honda City. It had an upright sitting position which is good for getting in and out of, smaller wheels than the Daihatsu charade of the day, which means more internal space, also rear seats were an optional extra and only good for small kids but it was mostly intended as a two seater and it had lots of cargo space as it was actually a commercial vehicle. I would love to see an electric version of this only with rear wheel drive. Electric cars are more suited as wheel drive. It amazes me that the electric short range lower top speed second car concept hasn’t taken of first as the benefits really compound, firstly smaller batteries means less weight which means a smaller motor, lower top speed due to a lower gear ratio also helps to keep the motor smaller which reduce current draw and weight. Then there is the greatly extended life of your ICE vehicle because of the reduced number of cold starts and short trips which is a great problem especially for diesel engines. The only thing missing is a self connecting charging system that could be installed in car parks everywhere. If military aircraft can refuel in air then surely this could be done. Your vehicle could have an electronic identifier so that you automatically get charged for charging if you want it by just pushing a button on your dashboard, then you could live with a very small battery.
The Aussie market has far fewer brands to choose from but hopefully these will come. But very few people will be interested in such a limited speed and range here. @@Cooliemasteroz
