Congratulations! You really deserve it for your unique style. Your calm presentation is refreshing when compared to other reviewers who pretty much yell their thoughts at the audience. It really helps focus on the content of the games rather than the gags around them.
I remember emulating this game some 12 - 15 years ago. I don't speak Japanese of course but I did finish the game by randomly exploring the world map and endless hours of grinding. It didn't get boring either because I thought the animation was very satisfying and at that time I was a massive sucker for everything Dragonball.

This honestly looks like an NES Game with some additional hardware to let the NES Scale Sprites
I remember playing this game a bit as a kid. And yeah, it is definitely something that is really only for fans of the show. Congratulations on "Over 9,000!" subscribers! And nearly over 10,000 at this point! ;)
Honestly, this is one of the best DBZ RPGs ever made. The card battle system goes way back to NES days, and I really enjoy the slower pace and RPG gameplay. Waited 20 years for someone to actually do a sequel on this game and finally finish Cell and Buu saga, unfortunately, this can only be a dream.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the full Famicom Dragonball RPG series. I don't know if you're ever planning on covering those games, but if you ever do, I'm here for it. :D

I played this before it got translated and still had fun with it. Should perhaps give it another go.
Also refreshing to see someone who realizes just how big a deal it is to have 9000 subs. There are way too many TH-camrs who consider themselves and others to be failures if they don't have hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
For some context: I'm from a small country with a population of about 50.000 people.

Yah, my main motivation for watching the show was watching the plot unfold, battles were too drawn out at times...
Well it's actually for regular DS not the 3DS. So if you can find one for that level it should be fine. If not then opt for the other one I guess. I admit I am not too knowledgeable in capture cards, but I know others used something just as effective beforehand.

There was a kind of remake made for the DS if this game call Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu, it changed a bit of the gameplay by adding a board turn base system, with items and other stuff, in terms of story it cover until the Cell Saga. I coinsidere it okay, because there are point in which you can jump to an scenery in which you are underlevel for that point.

This was one of the first games i ever emulated. I had a lot of fun playing this shit, great video man!
Can you please help me? I am finding it so much easier to obtain a cheap priced copy mostly used button in Great shape video games! NOW here's my problem the even tatered and torn used and in some cases very used copys of strategy guide are outrageously expensive? HELP

This game had one crucial flaw that made all the difference in the world - random encounter permadeath. With the additional element of randomness introduced by the card system, sometimes an important character would just die, and the player wouldn't be able to do anything to stop it. Add to this the fact that the encounters happen all the time, the INCREDIBLE amount of repetitive fights needed to level up, uncreative "sidequests" (if you can call them that) and the result is one of the most boring games ever. The praise this game get's is only understandable when one takes under consideration the fact, that there weren't that many playable Dragon Ball games around and this was the one many people back in the day started with (while having a lot of time to waste on their hands) - I suspect that any "not completely sickening" crap would get an audience if it had "Dragon Ball" in the title.
18 years ago was the first time I've played it and I was admittedly less bored. Today I've launched the game out of nostalgia to relax and had no pleasure of doing so whatsoever. After having to reload my save 3 times and having to fight 3 random fights during a ~40 meter flight I just said "enough" - literally watching paint dry would be a more interesting activity (and I really mean "literally"). If this game was remade with more variety and some more reasonable mechanics (the cards themselves are not a bad concept when considered outside of the other elements) it would be fun to try it again.
Anyone know how to beat the 2nd raditz fight?

Even though this game can be a pain at various points, I still like it since I'm a huge DBZ fan. Feel like that helps immensely. Definitely a guilty treasure. Probably the best DBZ RPG to me until Kakarot came along which has been like a dream come true.
Classic SNES emulator game I never hear anyone talk about!(Cool you got it on FDC though). They need to do another DBZ RPG like this I LOVED THIS GAME!!! Thanks to whoever translated this like 15 years ago before it was even popular to do that. I absolutely love how any non main characters can die at any point with permanent death and it'll effect the game depending on how that happens and give you a unique experience compared to the show. These ideas were so brilliant IMO and the way DBZ games should be done instead of running through the exact unchanged story in every game. I would kill to have another DBZ RPG like this one!!! Btw I love the plot in DBZ with the character deaths, how they explaining the whole saiyan race and explore cool new planets, deal with themes of death, heaven and hell, etc. I liked all that just as much as the epic battles and that's actually why I think so many don't like GT as much. There are still some epic battles and more powerful SS4 levels of epicness but the plot was often extremely boring and/or flat. thanks for making this video though Derek!
This was a informative review. However if you are looking for a better alternative to this, then may I suggest DBZ: Attack of the Sayains for the Nintendo DS. It's more indeth jrpg in comparison. As well featuring unquie content that adds to the enjoyment of the experience. Without feeling too bogged down. ESPECIALLY fir hardcore fans of the series. If not then maybe the Legacy of Goku Series on the GBA, for the action rpg angle. Keep up the great work my good man!
Attack of the Saiyans is definitely on my to-review list, but since I play everything on original hardware (when possible,) I'm still saving up for a 3DS Capture Card. :)

I do, and have for a while. However, I recently discovered the magic of removing sibillance using a De-Esser. I think this was the last review I did before learning how to fix it. You might check out my Dragon Warrior reviews, which should definitely have that toned waay down. :)

If you're looking for another good DBZ game, I highly recommend Attack of the Saiyans on the DS. It's far from my favorite RPG, but it's easily my favorite DBZ RPG, for whatever that's worth.

Possibly one of the greatest rpg games ever made. No DBZ game captured the essence of the show as much as this game. It's just too on point. Ots almost the exact show on a game

It’s the type of game, if it wasn’t DBZ, it would totally suck, but I feel like the game design suits the show pretty well. There’s a lot of attention to detail and quite a bit of replay value for an RPG….if you felt like the game was too easy, let Tien Yamcha and Chiaotzu die while fighting Nappa and play “canon mode” lol….better yet, if you REALLY want a challenge, do really bad on King Kai’s planet as Goku….you’ll be forced to beat Nappa WITHOUT HIM!! AND you’ll have to survive a few rounds against Vegeta himself
There’s end game choices too, like weather or not to fuse Piccolo with the two Namekians and Dende. Fusing gets Piccolo his special lv48 with a BP of 1.9 million, where not fusing keeps his BP closer to what it was in the show….shoot, you can even choose to not fuse with Nail I’m pretty sure
Then of course there’s the neat secrets of the game, like being able to play as Great Ape Gohan against the hidden boss post Frieza, or being able to play as Ginyu or Frieza himself through easy glitches
This review is harsh….but fair I guess, as an RPG, it’s not FFVII, but as a DBZ game, it’s honestly a true gem, I wish modern developers would take inspiration from this game….like, I played through Kakarot and thought the whole time “I wish this was more like Saiya Densetsu” haha…..for the sake of party members, they’d have to branch the game into sections, cause let’s be real, you ain’t taking Chiaotzu into battle during the Buu Saga if they want to keep BP even somewhat true to the show like this game did lol…..idk how it would work out, but I’d love to see a game in this style cover ALL of DBZ….shoot, I’d even be on board for one to cover DragonBall, DB Super, and even one for DBGT

I think I tried to play this in an emulator when I was a kid xD The fact that the game was in Japanese didn't bother me that much as even my English wasn't even that great back then haha xD (I'm from the Netherlands).

LoG2 is sh*t compared to LoTSS since it takes place in real time battles, people love the card game RPGs more than the "thing" is in the Legacy of Goku series
Also LoG2 secret character sucks, really Hercules/Mark? How about not revive FGohan with the dragon balls? This character is very rare this days, first apearing as a playable character in the PSP VG (yeah i like most people, don't count sagas as a VG)

I disagree .I loved this game as a kid and still do today. It sure does have it,s flaws like any game .The battle animations can get repetitive and the cards system can look hard .Of course this is not FF,DQ or Chrono Trigger etc... It's also not for everyone but IMO it is the best DBZ JRPG out there. It's for fans of the anime.If you like the anime,you will probably like the game or not.

That card biased battle system looks weird. Even if the game isn't great at least it's weird? The graphics look cool though.
+DubiousGamingOnline It was a little weird, but you get used to it pretty quickly. There's also an auto-battle mechanic that's not too terrible either. :)
You should give the 3DS Dragonball Z rpg a shot... I hate myself but I forgot the name proper but it covers the beginning of Z to the end of the Saiyan saga.

Well, Dragon Ball has a plot, so watching it for that reason is a-ok.

+Joey vasquez The story could definitely be awesome from time to time, especially Vegeta's character development during the Buu saga. But when I say people didn't watch it for the plot, I mean that the show was more interested in showing action most of the time. Especially during the infamous stretching out of the Frieza saga. Compare that with something like Death Note, which has plot twists and turns in pretty much every episode, and you'll see what I was trying to get at. DBZ was an action show with a plot, not a plot show with some action. :)

I played the butchered English translated rom. And men, this game is unbalanced as fuck. If you overstep the EXP grinding a bit. Enemy super attacks are bouncing right off your dragon balls.
