After 15 years on a Honda ST1300, I've gone to the older R1200RS. It certainly does not have the rider comfort and touring capabilities of the Honda, BUT, at 94 kg lighter, I am happy with the RS. I do have handle bar risers and a windscreen extension but the seat to peg ratio is now the only other thing I would like to address. I also shifted the Sat Nav cradle to above the instrument cluster. What a stupid place to put it BMW. All in all, a great bike.
Yeah sorry about that - I could have worded that better, but on the side of the road.... All is correct in my written review. Also, we knew nothing technical about the bike at the ride - so at that point it was hard to determine between soft throttle or dropped power. Cheers, Jeff.
Co e on Jeff,I ride a gsx1400, and the R1250Rs felt small. I also rode the R1250R But I do love it a Nd your review was one of the main reasons I took it for a ride.. Remember ber 8 ride two up a lot of the time, itching the R1250RS is the one for us.Cheers Greg
Great review. Interesting to listen to your experiences with suspension setup, tyres and engine. To me it sounded like every typical big Beemer boxer. I find the best ride performance is gained by roll-on/roll-off throttle use and little braking - trust the front and just let it flow... The sports touring tyres (Metz) that you had on that bike I've found to be pretty good but other brands (eg. Michelin RP5) bring out better feel in the front if you can't get the flow going. Interesting comments about heat. I've never found the boxers to be that hot really. Maybe because I only ride in leathers, but typically I find them cooler than almost every bike I've ridden or owned - I certainly don't get the crotch sweats from the heat coming up in front of/around seat on boxers or on the knees. I don't know what height you are, but for me the screen in the down position worked best. I also found having a communicator or camera attached to the helmet caused most of the helmet noise and buffeting...
Interesting comments, I know what you mean about the riding technique. Yeah I always get really hot legs and feet on any new model Boxer... I'm 187cm tall. Cheers
why the hard music? sort of interrupts the review. commercial like. how about real bike sounds. actual live footage. that is sort of the reason to watch the review as opposed to listening to your play list preference.
Hi Sivan, they are comparable, the SS has the sportier edge for sure and feels a lot lighter, the BMW RS is mote suited to touring although both are sports touring. For s long trip, I'd choose the BMW. For shorter trips and more sports riding, the Ducati. The BMW has superior extras and electronics. The Ducati costs less... It's an interesting one, I'd ride both if I was you. Jeff.
hi bud, you say the quickshifter is beautiful, so I am presuming it is a 100 times better than the 1250gs. I rode the GS and the quickshifter was a disaster in the first 3 gears, both up and down. I ride a k16 and my quickshifter is so smooth, you think it is an auto box. So my comparison is with the k16. One of the reason I could not live with GS. cheers from south Africa
I find the upshifts clunky up the 3rd or fourth EXCEPT if you are opening up the throttle and accelerating hard. Downshifts very smooth - at least in my view! Really nice bike
That's some god awful bloody music mate. Get rid of the tunes and let us at least listen to the bike, or the sound of the birds in the trees, or maybe croaking frogs. Anything really.
it is very hard to drive this engine unless you are investing in handlebars raises. fatigue and pain in the arms and joints are felt after an hour's drive and this becomes unbearable. it gets so intense that you just have to stop driving because you stop feeling the steering wheel and your hands become wooden and stiff. it's an incredible ergonomic flaw in the design and construction of this engine.

They sure are good. 94kg less than the ST? Crickey!
Yep good review but that music is bloody annoying as said let’s here the engine sound it’s a bike review not a heavy metal gig.
Hi Peter - yeah sorry about that - had Mic issues, and chose bad music to fix it.
Very good review except for the awful music.
Thanks and yeah sorry - I was a bit self indulgent there I guess!
I loved the music !
Kill the music. The exhaust has a far better soundtrack!!!
Great review and great video, but God, what terrible music.
None of the settings affect the power output, the modes determine suspension settings, throttle response and traction intervention.
Yeah sorry about that - I could have worded that better, but on the side of the road.... All is correct in my written review. Also, we knew nothing technical about the bike at the ride - so at that point it was hard to determine between soft throttle or dropped power. Cheers, Jeff.

Cheers mate! Great bike... Gee I wish I still had the Rapid Bikes GSX1620 PTR Special! Jeff.
Would much rather listen to the engine note than the crappy TH-cam approved music.
Hi David, me too, but I had Mic issues so only got bad wind noise and hardly any engine note this time. Sorry about that... Jeff.
Haven’t ridden one of these yet,but the RT is a hard act to follow.
Great review. Cool green jacket - where did you buy it
Did you notice any vibes through the bar's that some say they have experienced?
Hi Geoffrey, no bad vibes to speak of, the R 1250 R was more vibey in the bars but still not much. Jeff.
4:40 what track is this?
egg some road up in the Sunshine Coast, not exactly sure as I’m not a local and was just following for the day 👍
How about the music track u played on that time stamp?
1250rs or Ninja 1000sx? Price difference is really compelling
Good review, There isn't more power in Dynamic mode, its just the throttle response..
Yeah I could have worded that better.... All will be correct in my written review. Cheers, Jeff.

Ownin r1200rs, at the summer, I have a lot of heat issues around my boots/feet.
In the winter bmw gave me a '' free'' option, feet warmers...
Interesting comments, I know what you mean about the riding technique. Yeah I always get really hot legs and feet on any new model Boxer... I'm 187cm tall. Cheers

Would you compare it with the Ducati Supersport?

Don’t need that bloody annoying music

Danielle Koran hi mate yes sorry EICMA has me working 24/7 but I’m hoping to finish
My R 1250 R video today 👍
I liked this review till the bloody MUZAK drowned out the engine sound!!! I have just flicked BikeReview.
Hi Barry - yeah sorry about that I had issues with the Mic and got no engine noise for a lot of the ride... and yes, bad choice of music!
can i get high cc bike at low price

Kill the elevator crap muzak, .. otherwise good.
Jajajajaja yo soy Nuevo x bmw moto y prefer l Guido d motor q la musica.. Nuevy x bm bike n review its great please get rid of flipping music
Lose that horrific noise it's making my ears hurt. Why not just have the sound of the bie6, that's what we're here for after all.
You're riding on the wrong side of the road..
Music choice sucks!
That's some god awful bloody music mate. Get rid of the tunes and let us at least listen to the bike, or the sound of the birds in the trees, or maybe croaking frogs. Anything really.
Yeah sorry about that - bad choice.. had a lot of wind noise so had to use music. Cheers...

Stopped watching as soon as the music started.
Mettete la musica perché è un motore senza personalità
