The oil filter is tough to get to. It helps to remove the passenger side rear wheel. It gives you a lot more room. I used a hydraulic jack and a solid jack stand for extra caution. And you can remove the black trim in the front of the wheel opening for even more room. Knowing that, I will do my oil change in a lot less time.

I just finished changing the oil and filter on my 2021 xp 4. I watched all of these videos prior to doing it. I disconnected the rod attached to the bed to get a little more room. I could not see the filter. Maybe if it was painted red but being black I could not see it. I had a pretty good idea where it was so with the engine cool I felt around on the front of the engine until I found it. I broke it loose with my hand and then left it snug. I ran the engine for a couple minutes to warm up the oil. I thought a 6mm Allen for the drain plug was kind of weird. I expected a 13 or 14mm headed bolt.
Went pretty easy after that. I had my new filter out and lubed up ready to go and after wiping down the area where it seats I was able to get it spun on pretty easy. Taking the old one out without spilling oil takes finesse. It’s like a monkey with his hand in a hole holding an orange. You have to move it around to get it to fit on the way out. Another tip is since I didn’t have a filter wrench I used a palm sized piece of sand paper to grab the old filter and that along with my massive arm strength I was able to loosen by hand.

lol didn't think about the oil filter was empty. That oil filter was a major pain to get off, I learned not to use an ajustable oil filter tool. I would put it on the oil filter an ratchet up and the tool would open and loose grip, I just had to hand thigthen the oil filter as tight as I could by hand, think I will get me a stand alone two and half one tomarrow.

Massive arm strength? Mediocre at best!

I was looking all over behind the seats thinking surely there’s an access cover for the oil filter, especially since there’s one for the fuel pump because you know you need access to the fuel pump WAY more often than the oil filter. Next time I stop by the dealer I’m going to peek in the shop to see if all the techs have long skinny arms.

That and you would think the oil would drain out at the angle. Hell no it didn't. All over my motor

You're being kind. I contemplated taking a sawzall to the back of the cab. You know they didn't film the filter closeup with an installed engine!

This video is a joke right? You can't even see the oil filter without taking the flare off the passenger side body panel. Start the engine and warm it up so that you can risk burning your arm trying to reach the oil filter which almost requires a double jointed wrist and elbow to get at. Again, it helps to take the flare of the body. Polaris suggests cleaning up around the filter prior to removing it. GREAT f'ing advice if you could see or reach ANYWHERE around the filter. Stellar design on the filter location and accessibility. Amazing that the aftermarket filters at least have a nut welded to them to enable removing and installing them but Polaris can't manage to do this themselves. Once you remove the filter, oil runs all down the front of the engine. Then this video advises to wipe down the oil after you are done. The only problem is you can't see or reach the front of the motor. The oil also runs down to the plate welded to the frame that has no access to clean without removing both the center and rear skid plates. Even after giving the engine and frame a reach around oil was still dripping all over the place. This leaves you wondering hours later if the new oil spot under your vehicle is a new leak or residual oil from the filter removal. This is the first side by side we have ever owned. (2022 General Trailhead edition) For 35K Polaris could not even include side view mirrors, a windshield, a horn or a license plate light. These are basic safety items that a customer should not have to get bent over by the dealer to install to make the vehicle functional. Not to mention the dealer leaving the upper seat belt bolts only finger started and not tightened or the countless plastic parts the scratched while doing their assembly. Not impressed at all with Polaris or their dealers.
