See, the quality over quantity argument only goes so far. Portal was a fantastic game, Yahtzee couldn't find a single fault with it, but you would still never pay full price for it NOR did valve attempt to charge full price for it.
Sneezee Burgg 3 games for the price of one! And it also came with Episode 1 and episode 0 for some reason so actually it was 5 games for the price of one!

This is the funniest Yahtzee review I've seen in a while. That could also be due to my absolute loathing of the balls it takes to release a goddamned demo that you charge people almost the price of a full game for.

There are plenty of games with significantly longer campaigns with speedruns around the same time. I'm not speaking on the length of Metal Gear Ground Zeroes but using speedruns as an indicator for overall length is faulty.

It does have solid gameplay, good visuals and soundtrack and arguably interesting premise for an interesting story.
Consumer of Souls Which sadly makes this whole ordeal more painful. If it were just a completely $#@! game that did this then we would all mock it and then completely forget about, but now it's like finding the worlds most talented midget. So many glimpses of something fantastic but then you find out that he/she is too short and can't do many things because of that height.....also he/she stole $40 from you when you weren't looking.

To those of you bemoaning how Yahtzee criticized the game for gender issues:
Number of times Yahtzee references how the female character is portrayed: Once.
Number of references to the stupidity and arrogance displayed by charging nearly full price for a demo at least 4 and probably mkre.
So, which is the more pressing issue? Sexism or highway robbery?
Obviously I mean "more" but unless I correct it, there will be a decade long flame war over the typo.

Actually, this wasn't the first time he talked about the games use of women. He's mentioned it a few times in the past.
I am specifically referring to this video, and this video only. Some previous poster was angry because Yahtzee called out MGS' s female character while completely ignoring the real issue, despite Yahtzee bringing it up manh many times in this video. The whole $40 for a demo thing is disgusting and I can only hope that Konami gets bit in the ass really hard and often for it so they never pull this anticonsumer BS on any future games they release.

$40 for a 30 minute demo? Unless that gives you a discount for the final game, that seems like an immense slap to the face for anyone who buys it.
There have been people who have finished the mission in 5 minutes and I am being serious, if you are really good you can get Paz and Chico rescued in 5 min.
So far I have managed to get my time down to 10 minutes, I was doing it on the PS3 though and then I bought the PS4 version as well (as I didn't have a PS4 at the time it was released, managed to get one a week later). I can't help it, I am a Metal Gear fanboy since I was 7 years old on the NES (yes I know it's a shitty port of the vastly superior MSX2 version, fuck off already) and I have to buy every Metal Gear game multiple times. Now I need to buy the 3DS version of MGS 3, I still need the MGS HD collection for the 360 (I got it on PS3), MGS V Ground Zeroes on Xbox 360 and Xbox One (even though I don't own nor want those consoles) Fuck, fuck I hate being a Metal Gear fanboy because it makes me do irrational things like buying the same game a billion times.
snake2006 To be fair, most people didn't get anywhere near 10 minutes on their first playthrough, unless they played it 'wrong' and 'run and gunned' the level.
I mean, I managed to finish the entire of MGS2 in 28 minutes. I did MGS3 in about 50. I don't use either of those times when somebody asks me about how long the games were.

The current speedrun record listed on the SDA page for completing the entire game is over an hour and a half, so either you mean you finished the tanker in 28 minutes, or you've beaten the speedrun record by over an hour.

This was years ago. I remember the time I did it in, not how I did it. I know full well I wouldn't be able to do it again though, I couldn't do it in less than 2 hours in the HD re-release.

You see, first there was naked snake, who was also called big boss at the end of mgs 3, then there was a clone, he was called snake, from mgs 1, that's why people can't recognize them, they look exetremly similar

I got this game on a steam sale and played it for 25 hours although I can definitely see how someone who wasn't a massive metal gear solid fan would hate it
I got it in the steam sale too and it only took like 2:30 to complete. I thought that it was great and I'd only played an hour of MGS 1 before that. Be even better if there was more of it.

This is a serious story that contains child soldiers and very dark topics, at least this is a creative statement, an not just a thing to show a character has vulnerability *cough* Tomb Raider *cough*
Uh no, it's unnecessary and just in there for shock value, literally no different than Tomb Raider. It doesn't add anything or change the narrative at all if you listen to audio log and it's there purely to make people shocked. The Last Of Us did a scene like that properly, don't act like MGS didn't handle it any better than Tomb Raider.

You have to be a REALLY good writer to pull something like that off, and MGS has always been very badly written.
When you are Kojima you can get away with that shit. Hes actually the most important piece in the gear series, but also dangerously becoming the cause for his downfall. I never was a big fan of the narrative as i cant stand those unnecessary long and pedantic walls of text he forced in his games (more and more with every release), i actually enjoyed metal gear 2 and a bit of ac!d but just for the mechanics.

Paying $40 for a next gen demo is exactly why i think the video game industry, at least the mainstream gaming industry (Steam is always going to be around) is heading towards a crash. Like two trains hitting each other a mach 3 kinda crash

2. This doesn't get a free pass, not in my book anyway. Maybe in a couple of years I'll find this demo in a bin for a couple of dollars, or for a buy-one get-one free deal at Gamestop. I just hope enough people -Didn't- buy it, to suggest Kojima shouldn't pull this stunt again.

Hey, if it were $5, or even $10 I'd defend it. lol, That would be cheap enough to justify the lack of content. I mean real budget went into it, they have the right to make something back from it, but I feel like they would make far more if they gave it away for free. Then everyone would be excited for MGS Phantom Pain. Now they're just left with a bad taste in their mouth, wondering if they want to trust Kojima now. As far as I'm aware he hasn't ever wronged us before (In my opinion, the whole Raiden thing might've dicked some people over, but I didn't at all mind.) and we don't know if he'll do it again.
And lets hope not, he's still making good games.

I welcome this. Imagine if GTAV had done this before releasing GTA. I paid £20 for this and when comparing to a lot of £40 games that are short or overhyped, I welcomed this. It's given me a teaser to see if I'll like MGS5 (as I MGS4 was a bit meh to me) and now I will purchase it.... rather than waiting ages and hearing all the hype.
It wasn't an expensive demo. It was a polished early access game. Considering how much people are willing to spend on early access games on steam, I don't see what the big issue with. Don't like it? Don't buy it.
Yes it's 2/3 the price of a reg game, but it's still 2 hourse- even most $40-60 games can at least take up to 8 hours, over 20 hours for the good ones

It wasn't really that it was somewhat short, people were annoyed more so about the price on release; I still believe next gen had a big factor in the price; if it was only released on ps3/360 then it would've been like 25% the retail price.
Honestly though imo I don't buy games on release anymore; last year literally killed off preorders for me and I don't even need to explain why #Yearofthebrokenshit
I bought this used, cheap, at Gamestop specifically so Konami wouldn't get my money for pulling this shit.
Except they kind of did... you paid Gamestop for a copy of the game for which they paid the original owner. The original owner is therefore likely to buy these $40, 5 minute games again as he can get some of this money back... and Gamestop will support him next time as you paid them to do it.
The only way to prevent Konami from doing it again & to therefore feel smug about not paying them is either to not buy the demo at all, or hack into their systems & download it from there leaving a message saying "IOU dickwads".

bigstabby You're possibly right and I respect that, but it's my opinion. While it's true second-hand sales do not directly put money into the hands of the developers, it does make buying over-priced demos such as this an easier choice for the fools that buy them the first time around.

Yeah, I essentially just piggy-back on the dimwits.lol I usually always like to support the game industry, but not here. I'm a huge MGS fan, but at the same time I don't want to get shafted. The only way to play the game and not make the industry think this is a wise move to replicate in the future is to buy used. It kind of bums me out that it sold so well. I just hope no one else tries this ever again.
My general strategy was as follows: Kill marines first, rescue cornflake picker later.

You know what's odd? That would actually make a pretty kickass setup FOR A VIDEO GAME STORY! You start out in one of the mines, or rather, you start out playing Tetris before being yanked away from the machine by the guard yelling,
"Time's up! You're not the only one who wants to play." After that, you walk somberly pass the long line of gamers seeking the only joy they have in their oppressed lives, returning once again to the pit, working yourself to death for the glimmer of escapism you receive. Then, you're secretly contacted by a resistance movement lead by expies of notable game developers like Shigeru Miyamoto, Gabe Newall, and Ken Levine.
i think the sad thing about Yahtzee's gripes with the Metal Gear series can be summed up by the fact that the Japanese don't care about said gripes (hell, the fixed camera was a _necessity_ because a free camera gave Japanese players motion sickness. i wish i was making this up.)

I didn't realize inconsistent tone was a reoccurring issue for the MGS. I did my fair share of bitching about going from 'Save the kids!" to "EXPLICIT IMPLIED RAPE'.
In Europe this game costs €30 which is terrible because the euro is worth 1.40 dollars and there is no way tax is 50%
lets see... "free" healthcare, a massive entitlement society, and unions that can make demands for anything and they will get it? Sounds about right... not at 50%, but maybe at 15%... the rest likely comes from tariffs and a slight increase in price from a dollar to euro conversion...

I just want to say one thing to anyone who's watching this but hasn't played the game.
If you get the game for free, like I did, it's fucking brilliant. I've gotten about 20 hours of gameplay out of it, I mean if you do the whole one and done thing it will probably ruin your experience but like the only good thing about how short the game is the fact that it gives it replay-ability to try and improve your score to earn a higher rank, granted it is very rinse & repeat since for the most part improving your score will only get you more starting weapons for the same mission and a few extra bits here and there.
Overall if it's on offer for free or really cheap then I seriously recommend it. Having played it I would be willing to pay up to £5 for it knowing how good it is.

i got a ps4 for for christmas and my dad came home with this game and I was playing it and he was watching me play it and then i was on it for 1 hour and then we see the credits start rolling and we were just like WTF! thats it! this is pretty much just a demo such a waste of money the game itself is good but they could of told me on the box or something this isn't a full game -_- my dad said he's returning it on Friday

There actually was a reason that MGS2 switched characters. It was the way Hideo Kojima wanted to tell the story, and if you want to know more about what kind of way he was telling the story, you should look it up.

Easy! DON'T BUY SHITTY GAMES. They don't have to try, people buy all the games and /then/ complain they're bad. Addendum: DON'T PREORDER A GAME unless you can honestly say to yourself "I have absolute 100% faith this game will be worth every penny." Some people will still make mistakes, but we can at least lessen it... When every game makes bank before it's even finished being made, can you blame them for not giving a shit about quality?
It's simple - if you don't buy 5 minutes worth of game for $40, the developers realise that they've taken the piss & don't do it again.... if you buy the game, they'll know they can get away with it and do it as much as possible.

As much as I have love for the MGS franchise this 40 dollar grab for a short peak at an actual game is unacceptable.
That is the problem with being a real fan. You'll pay money for anything I suppose. I will stick with my appreciation and enjoyment of the series while I use my money for other more reasonable things I am a fan of.
