      Czhil sounds like Jill fun fact the capitxn tend to work with him a lot even when he produce with other artist like the song for IU , he actually is the same age as them and he was an idol ( and coproduced song for his group ) but they disbanded so he started his career to exclusively production and composing music. When he was an idol he actually collabed with UI for the song "Friday " ( pretty well known in SK ). He started to work with suga ( and for big hit ) when suga asked him to work together in ddaeng.

    So in the first verse Suga is talking about his raw ambition and how it’s a blessing AND a curse. He’s not sure he’s ready to handle the heights that his desires took him to. He’s afraid.
    The switch up is when Shadow Suga takes over the verse. He repeats the exact same list of desires, but it’s clear that this side of Suga has zero problem with them. Then he goes on to remind Suga that they are the same person. He’s telling Suga to embrace his ambitions (his shadows) - because they aren’t going anywhere anyway. They will always be part of him.
    Embracing one’s shadow side is one of the steps in Jungian psychology that’s required in order to become a whole person with a healthy sense of self.

All three of the rap lines solo songs go together and they are based off Carl Jung's theory that ego is your identity, persona is the mask you wear to survive, and shadow is the part that you hide from others so you can be accepted in the world. Korean camera work is art in itself. It becomes part of the choreography. I think you'd be surprised how much is done without robotics....those cameramen work hard. A great example that I think Fredo in particular would love seeing is the behind the scenes filming of BTS's "Save Me". There are no cuts or edits in the MV...camera, lighting & artists had to all work as one team

    Suga always describes the world of being a famous idol as constantly dumping yourself into extremely hot water and then extremely cold water, on repeat.
    There's always a disparity between the fame/money/influence you achieve VS. the loneliness/extreme pressure/stress/physical & mental damage.
    it's like they want it but they don't want it at the same time.. they love it but they are afraid of that very thing. They want to fly but don't want to plunge & crash.
    This is probably an extreme battle inside of them.
    That's why he describes how when the light shines on you the brightest, your shadow is actually the greatest.
    In the end, you can see how his "shadow" tells him, hey you're me and i'm you so we can't be separated.
    There's like 20000 things i want to say but this is a short blurb since i dont think there was much of an explanation in the actual video!

    The Map of the Soul is based on the elements of one's self as discussed by Jungian philosophy. (Persona, Shadow, Ego and Self) This song is about Suga's Shadow. How the brighter you shine the bigger your shadow. In the mv he is talking to his Shadow. The Shadow that craves success and Suga who is overwhelmed by it. The concept is he has to learn to accept the shadow to find himself.

      I unfortunately/ fortunately have watched a gang of interviews and Festas (their anniversary party). In one Suga said "I'm afraid of falling but not landing". He explained it as being afraid of their blast of success and the risk of them falling out of their position, while at the same time being okay even if they do.

  • @courtneyboyd3966

    The song is about the highs and lows of fame. Out of all the members, Yoonji is the most introverted. He’s definitely has the most complex personality out the members. He has been very vocal about his struggles with mental health.
    You notice the symbolize of white Yoonji versus black Yoonji. Also with the switch in beat. White raps about struggles of fame whereas Black raps the same thing however you can tell in his cadence it’s a bit more of a show off. This song really is amazing on so many levels

Because 'Shadow' is definitely something that needs to be explained as it is an important track along with the Intro, and the Outro, that puts the concept of the album into perspective.

    In Jungian psychology the shadow is the part of you that society and in-turn yourself considers "bad". Everyone fights that part of themselves and tries to not let it ever show most of the time. You can't ever get rid of that aspect of yourself and it tends to take over more the harder you fight it. This song is basically about how the higher Suga rises in popularity and is in the public spotlight the bigger his shadow grows.

  • @laicosmos03
    @laicosmos03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

Honestly, just getting into bts is a whole another world, hope this journey is as wholesome for you guys as it is for us, thank you for giving such honest reactions again :)

    Believe it or not I cried the first time I watched this music video because I could relate to the lyrics so much, not the fame but the inner struggles or feeling like I couldn't be myself. BTS just has this incredible way of touching your soul or they make you think about things which is why I have mad respect for them as artists. Paradise is my favorite lyrics of BTS so I definitely understand why that is your favorite right now

  • @lumenardens

    People already mentioned that Suga made this song, but I don't think anyone mentioned how he sampled one of their own old songs for this. All three songs by the rapline (Persona - RM, Shadow - Suga, Ego - J-Hope) use old tracks of theirs. Persona’s intro with the animation is directly pulled from the Intro Skool Luv Affair MV along with the music (from the 3rd album in 2014), Shadow uses the Intro music and some MV imagery from O!RUL8,2? Intro video (2nd album from 2013) - you also saw the title animated in this MV. And EGO uses the Intro from 2 Cool 4 Skool (their debut album in 2013). They went backwards in time and repurposed their old tracks to portray their Map of the Soul (album title of these 3 tracks). When I tell you they go hard with the music making. Who goes back and repurposes their own old songs to reflect on what has happened up till this point and mixes it with the Jungian theory of the Self.

    The way they distributed who does the Persona, Shadow and Ego for the MAP OF THE SOUL album is perfect. Persona is handled by RM, Shadow for SUGA and Ego for Jhope.
    This is exactly how its like in Carl Jung’s theory of Map of The Soul!
    Have I mentioned how much our Rap Line is superior?
    The roles of each member (even in vocal line) fit the group like a puzzle piece. Different personalities and styles that balanced each other.
    Since Persona, Shadow and Ego is handled by rap line you could say the entire group makes up the SELF (the ultimate goal of a person is to love yourSELF).

    • @landinh13
      @landinh13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't dislike the ARMY in this requested video, but I think she might have confused them when she said the unit song by Suga, Jin, and JK were a unit. Wasn't that just Jin and JK being featured on an unofficial release of Agust D's 'So Far Away' song? I believe it was only released on their soundcloud, and it was the original version Suga had recorded before deciding to have Suran sing it and put officially on his Agust D mixtape. So in my eyes, it wasn't really a unit song. Now if she was already explaining the solos in Map of the Soul: 7 album, then I feel like she should've said Suga & RM's unit song 'Respect' to maybe be more coherent talking about the MOTS album. Lol I don't know that's just me. But at least she requested my favourite song.

    Yoongi has expressed how scared he is and the boys are when they were suddenly so high up. They started this for music, Yoongi himself expected his career to be idol for about 2-7 years, they disband and he continues his career as a producer.
    He didn’t expect all of this. What’s insane is out of all the boys, Yoongi has mentioned big goals like “I want us to reach billboard hot 200, billboard hot 100, perform in the AMA’s, perform, nominate and win in the grammy.. and etc.” And whenever he says these he gets it. The saying of “what yoongi wants yoongi gets” always trends when we reach our goal. He said this back then that first he wants to perform in the grammys and get nominated then maybe WIN a grammy the year after that.

    The 'tomato paste' you spoke of is from an art installation and refers to having to squeeze/cut yourself down to fit/conform.
    The hands that went on his shoulder, if you notice his expression, he gave a defeated sigh. He's an introvert and he's being pushed onto the stage. Then the lyrics, "Don't let me down, don't let me fly" speaks to his inner conflict and trying to come to terms with these 2 different emotions/sides to him. His desire for fame and his introversion
    In the end, he accepts that one person can have different opposing feelings and that both are true to you.

    This song can be interpreted variously but in my mind understanding Jung's concepts of the Shadow and individuation are the underpinning ideas to "Shadow". It is after all a song heavily tied to the Map of the Soul concept which is elemental to many of the album's songs. Interpret it how you like or see how Jungian psychology permeates the lyrics and is applied to Suga's understandings of his musical life. Guess that will be the listeners choice but I know for me I need to apply Map of the Soul concepts to many of the albums songs such as "On", "Black Swan", "Louder than Bombs", "Persona", "Ego" and yes this song.

    SUGA 'Shadow" - the ambitious part of yourself but your innerself is afraid to handle it.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences about overcoming your fears being on camera. You are right that the future isn't always the way we think it will be, but it's important to take it for what it is and make something positive from it. I just started watching you over the last week and I love that you are so open-minded and vulnerable. A lot of TH-camrs are clout-chasing, but I can tell how genuine you are because you value the message and sincerity of the artists that you admire. I can totally relate to your frustrations as an artist because I haven't been able to get back into writing music due to self-criticism. Your words make me feel less critical of myself because I am reminded that others are going through the same experience. I appreciate your realness and care for your listeners!

    Like she brought up Yoongi /SUGA's said that for their first big American TV performance on the AMAs in 2017 he was super nervous beforehand and after the show was over he went back to his hotel room and cried in the shower. He always wanted to be a producer not really an idol. He wanted to be the man in the chair not the guy on stage. I thought when he signed the contract to be an idol he and the rest of the group would have a few good years maybe win some music shows and that be it and he could then just make music. He told us that he just knew that this was about to lunch them into unknown places and he was terrified because that not what he originally wanted to do.
    dreams change of course but that doesn't ever really take the fear away
    also, the full songs each have a verse by each of his soul's parts - aminoapps.com/c/btsarmy/page/blog/jungs-map-of-the-soul-and-its-connection-to-bts/n5X7_z5pILuWoE5lpvNBMeoENkGarpgZwPd

    i feel like she doesn't really know what the song is about lmao. she was clearly nervous when they asked her to explain the lyrics. this is why sometimes it's hard for me to watch reactions to bts when i have no problem watching reactions to other groups. because most people aren't used to interpreting deep visual and lyrical metaphors, much less the huge amount of them bts' music has. reactors usually don't grasp the essence of their most complex songs, especially the ones who don't want to watch the video a second time to focus on the lyrics the second time around, rewind when they miss a scene or a lyric and pause to take a moment to think about what they just watched/heard/read. don't get me wrong i understand you wouldn't want to do all that the first time you hear a song, it's okay to let it flow and catch what you can until it's over. but that's why i would rather you watch bts' videos a second time, to analyse it basically. once you start doing that you understand why bts are some of the best artists of all time, regardless of your taste in music.

    The shadows indeed the fans too also media, pressure, insecurities etc everything that a person would consider negative at some point in their lives. BTS plays with the shadows as all those things we fear but cant avoid and still are a part of us too. Growing and knowing yourself also means knowing your shadows and learning to deal and live with them.

    It's so cool that you have this format of reacting with a fan so you have someone to bounce questions off of instead of just relying only on comments. I mean ARMY always be dropping informational essays in comments but this format for reactions is really nice and different!

    There is a struggle that Suga is going through. Did he really want success to the pt where he is an Int'l Super Star. He also has struggled with mental health issues before he was in BTS.

    I’m sure it’s hard to remember things when being asked like this. But I hope (if your interested) you watch the explanation video. Like the fact that that was his shadow that comes in talking to him, when the beat changes halfway through. And that this is part of Carl jungs psychologically. This has deep meaning and goes with jhope -ego and rm- persona. Theyre all part of the map of the soul albums

    RM - Persona

  • @mev9752
    @mev9752 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's about the shadow , aka his fears, is how he accept it( not run for them or denied) Just lol intro persona RM talks about how he accept his persona and in ego , jhope do that with the ego. All of them are archetypes of Carl jun. that you see them in the book map of the soul. All the trailers are like a show up of the incoming album. This was suppose to be for the incoming title track black swan where bts talk about their fear of losing passion in music aka their shodows and how they embraced them. Boy with luv is the same with the persona and ON is when you accept everything to reach the self aka the individualization aka how to really accept your self. That's why the series is called map of the soul cuz bts is showing you a "guide " how thet can love themselves.

    Ken Lewis, the mixing engineer for Interlude: Shadow, told Vulture in an interview that this song is one of the hardest he has ever mixed. He relates, "“Interlude” has three distinct sections, and well over 100 tracks, so I basically had to mix three songs. On top of all the other challenges, I had to figure out how they’d go best from one section to the next with completely different sounds and vocals, so it was a lot of time and care and referencing other BTS mixes I’d done to make sure it had the dramatic spirit of my favorites."

    It is best to react also with RM’s Intro: Persona to complete it. Followed by the DKDKTV explanation. That will be good dissection from Higher Faculty as all are linked together based from Carl Jung’s theory. BTS really put substance to their music
