Possible one of the more subjective RANKED lists we've ever done! We don't reckon ANYBODY has reasonable grounds to disagree with Preston's placement, but sound off in the replies about who your favourite wasteland companion is!
Fallout 3: Dogmeat and RL-3 Fallout 4: Piper and Dogmeat Fallout NV: Veronica and ED-E (Sorry Rex, you just weren't as crucial as ED-E's Cannon Upgrade.)
Nah, I think Preston is the second worst and Ian is the worst, at least Preston can aim when he bothers to. Also, for the longest time I thought Dogmeat in fallout 3 was set essential, because in all the years I’ve played this game, I never once had him die on me.
NV: Boone and ED-E. FO4: Dogmeat and Strong. At least they will actually get in an enemy's face and fight instead of hiding behind a wall to lean out and just shoot ineffectually at things (and miss most of the time). Of course, with FO4, I tend to always have Dogmeat and companions I've picked up from actual mods because mod companions are usually better than the vanilla ones.
My issue with Dogmeat (FO4) he is attempting to kill you all the time. :D Find an enemy brings them to me, I look from a highway bridge...push! If there are landmines, Dogmeat finds them...lol...too bad it is normally when I am beside him. :O
@@zzzrrv true his intelligence levels are far advanced from any other dog and has survived in the commonwealth for so long it’s not surprising if the institute makes synth dogs because they make synth gorillas
I personally don't hates Preston as many do because I knew about he infamous Radiant quests and so I learn how to avoid them, and so It was never a problem for me
I love Raul, especially his passive aggressive dialogue on Black Mountain when he asks you to take him with you. Or he could go alone. Unarmed. Vulnerable. But that's ok, boss, you can make your own decisions. Love that guy.
I think Nick is one of the deepest characters besides Markus. His monologue after the Winters adventure is over? His “coming to realization” with DiMa? How he talks to Kasumi with her identity struggle? His whole “are you sure you are ready for all this?” Attitude with the Kellog story?! God damn man.
Could not disagree more about Raul. You're totally leaving out how hilarious he is. Listen to some of his lines. Love that sarcastic old bastard. "Your decisiveness is truly a wonder to behold, boss."
When going into stealth, if I recall, he makes a rather humorous statement about his old knees creaking which is always worth a chuckle, to me anyways.
Gotta love his line in the battle of Hoover Dam: "I can't believe I'm about to do this, boss. If I buy out there, I want twelve mariachi bands playing at my funeral. A medal might be nice, too."
ED-E makes me sad. He's just a robot on a mission to deliver data, but his programmed personality allows him to feel fear and even remorse. The idea of a simple machine being so dedicated yet so emotionally aware is a beautiful story
Freakin love ED-E. It's why I rate Lonesome Road so highly. Also, it's a wonderfully deep story with some of the most challenging areas in Fallout history. Very Hard+No Bullet/No Stim Run+Courier's Mile=Glorious
My only grievance with Boone is when he snipes an enemy from half a mile away and the jarring shift in camera and the slowed down sound scare the crop out of me.
My number 1 will always be Boone. The man stories hit harder than a supersledge to the chest and nevermind the fact that he literally takes enemies out before they even get close enough to respond puts him in more of a guardian angel catagory
I always have to break my heart between Raul and Boone. On one hand I have a God tier sniper making sure nothing sneaks up on Me. But on the other hand I like cowboy Danny Trejo complimenting my own cowboy build
@@random_person233 Dad's dont game? You sure? Im not a dad myself but I work, have a bunch of hobbies and a girlfriend. Still have time to game sometimes, as do a lot of dads around my age.
The problem with Bethesda Fallout (and Elder Scrolls and most open world games to a degree) is the player is usually the only one that ever does anything or has any impact on what happens in the world.
@@jcohasset23 Yeah I had to download a mod for Skyrim that lets NPCs explore dungeons because it's weird af being the only adventurer to explore these places. Need one for FO4
I realize it would probably be to much for the game to handle, but I wish there was a way to take into account what settlers have. I show up back in Sanctuary. A settler tells me about some raiders hassling them. I accept the quest, Olivia Station. I look at 20+ settlers equipped with a variety of upgraded lasers, plasma weapons, assault rifles, ect. Many are wearing armor I didn't have access to until I was at least level 20. All have ballistic weave. They even have three massive artillery cannons in the surrounding settlements that could turn Olivia into a crater. I shrug and march off to slaughter some helpless raiders who should have taken one look at the settlements in the area, and promptly moved to the Glowing Sea because it would be safer.
Meanwhile at GSC Game World (Developer of Stalker series) they had to dumb down the AI because it was so advanced it could complete the main quest before the player (Originally NPCs were able to beat quests if the player was too slow but the feature was removed mid-development).
During one of my FO3 play-throughs, an Enclave verti-bird crash landed and killed Charon. For some reason, I couldn't load an old save so I just had to go with it. I carried his body to a river and dropped him in and watched his body float away.... I then went on an Enclave killing rampage.
Literally my second or third favorite behind Marcus thanks for carrying me for my current fallout 2 play through and then Gannon and EDE my love number one is dog meat is number one for obvious reasons
In NV, with hardcore mode, companions can die. While I was looking for those cazador's eggs I had Veronica as a companion. I was very cocky and very underprepared. Even though I would lost a lot of progress since my last saving, my heart just couldn't stand her death quote "Bury me with a dress". Take care of Veronica.
If you let her read Elijah's message instead of reading it yourself, she gets _even better_ at vibe checking overconfident assholes who really should've known better than to fuck with her xD . Love Veronica, top tier companion.
At the start Paladin Danse was my favorite purely due to the fact that he was an absolute tank. After all of the synth stuff though he quickly gained a soft spot in my heart and was my companion as long as I didn’t need need to go by the brotherhood of steel.
Deacon was robbed. His dialogue is the funniest! Shame he didn’t have a deeper story or a companion quest but still. Agreed with Veronica’s placement though!
Yeah I'd Give It To Boone, Ed-E, Cass, Or Veronica. I Can't Pick They're All In My Squad. (Arcade Is Too But Not As Long As Those 4) All Of Us Wear NCR Armor 6-8. (With A Ranger And Trooper)
Well yeah, but he's in Fallout 4! Don't you realize that 4 is so inferior to New Vegas that merely suggesting literally ANYTHING being done better in Fallout 4 than in New Vegas is an insult to basic human intelligence?
@@samsonglennon3823 Yeah. When I had beaten the game I decided to kill him. Pushed him off one of the huge satellite towers. He lived. Fat-manned him like 4 times. Eventually took me and Charon all of my ammo, and his life to finally kill Dogmeat.
I kinda wish you all had included DLC companions such as the cast from Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Mothership Zeta, etc. Especially the Dead Money crew is super compelling.
Technically if you have one of them following you, you can use console commands to get back to new vegas and she will be with you still, for instance i reunited veronica with chistine or whatever her name was
I feel like they didn’t get far enough in Arcade’s quest to do the enclave stuff. Because they mention all the Danse spoiler stuff. So I don’t know why they wouldn’t do it for Arcade
Curie was my favorite. The naive optimism, the transformation from robot to human, the way she engineered a panacea that could cure all disease. . . Yeah, definitely my favorite.
Jericho is the goat, I gave him all of the support I could in combat. Me, him, and dogmeat had the best time living and murdering everything in our path, and I would always give him my best armor.
@ML____no, they took Shaun's DNA only as an example of clean DNA without any mutations and made many synths with different DNAs. Because synths have different races, skin color and genders. Their DNAs are not same with Shaun's DNA. So screwing synths is not incest.
something interesting about Arcade, He was actually a character that the lead game designer of Fallout NV used as their player character in a fallout tabletop RPG, same with Jean Baptiste
yeah, i still dont agree that killing his wife was the right call, he could've stalked the legion members that were selling her and/or the child and when the opportunity presented itself, he could've rescued her, but no! he instead believes that it's part of his punishment for what went down at bitter springs, so he shoots her.
@@UltimateGamerCC I dunno, I side with Boone here and if the positions were reversed I'd want the shot. She was taken all the way to Cottonwood Cove likely abused the whole way and about to be sold off in a camp of over 100 troops. Even if she survived the night which their was no guarantee she would, depending who bought her and for what, and they did eventually leave Cottonwood Cove with her and he killed them to save her would she even want saving? Would she be a whole person anymore, would the baby have lived having survived all the abuse the Legion is knowing to inflict on females? If it was me I'd want the shot over the needless trauma and torture
The Gaming Paladin but she was also pregnant and was being taken to legion territory. There’s almost no way he could have gotten her back and what he did was a mercy kill for his wife and child. The legion would have made both of their lives hell. I think he made the right choice
@@claytonjaggers2775 i cant accept that, every damn time i put myself in Boone's shoes, i never make that call. he could've kept track of her and waited for an opening, it's not like she would've remained at Caesar's Fort the entire time. i understand the horrible things the Legion are capable of, but i cant accept that there was no other option.
I think if he had more personality like he did in Lonesome Road then he would be higher, but he's kinda quiet otherwise which gives me the reason to never sacrifice him and always nuke an opposite faction though
Maccready's wife Lucy is actually one of the other kids in Little Lamplight in Fallout 3, the town's doctor of sorts. I played 4 before 3 and Mac is one of my favorite companions hands down, so when I met Lucy in 3, I got kind of emotional knowing the impact she would have on his life and what end she would inevitably meet 😢
He tricked his wife saying he was a soldier, when shit hits the fan he took “his child” (not their child, as far I remember the dialogue) and ran away. Imagine liking a pussy like that, not handling the karma, he gives you his wife’s ceramic toy soldier. Bruh, I usually don’t kill companions but I will make sure that he will be a farmer for the rest of his life alone on Outpost Zimonja. Saying you’re something else, have a family and run away by your bad decision?
Not the same Lucy, Mac mentions lying to her about being a soldier when he was really a merc upon meeting her, meaning she did not already know him from Little Lamplight. Lucy seems to be a very common name in fallout
From a mechanics perspective , veronica is still #1. Able to wear brotherhood faction power armor, durable, mobile lab station for swapping energy weapon ammo types, easy to recruit. Her reaction to finally getting a dress is just icing on the cake.
@@DamnDaimen literally my one single gripe about her is how annoying she is. If she was just quiet and reserved like Boone or even Cassidy, I'd have her 100% of the time. Her over the top cheeriness kind of clashes with the atmosphere of the game
@@t.t6294 I wanna say that the place you find her is between vegas and your spawn, so it's a natural stopping point in the rush for vegas I always do at the start.
My issue is that followers get me killed. I like the glowing ghoul in the middle of the river in fallout 4 just stands there and lets me refill my vats. I call him Frank. I like Frank.
I laughed so hard. Here's Preston, he's annoying. Next, a companion that lowers your rankings 😁 But my current playthrough is Preston as my companion and romantic partner and honestly I yell at him constantly. Man, you have a weapon, USE IT MY GUY!! But I wanted to get the most out of a playthrough with the minuteman ending so yeah.
Cait will always be my favorite companion, I like that she got sober during her quest line. It may be bad that she killed her own parents but she had every reason to, she was old enough to remember the betrayal from her parents
Comrade!! Cait is the best for sure! I like piper too but Cait has better character development! I wish piper had a better back story with a mission like Cait does..
You’re talking about Deacon’s elusiveness like it’s a bad thing, to me that’s a part of his charm. That and his snark is priceless; his comment about how you were willing to take anyone home with you after inviting someone to live in one of your settlements when you wouldn’t let him have a pet deathclaw might be one of the funniest lines in the game.
@@MistaOppritunity what would have been amazing is if you had Wasteland Whisperer level 3 when that dialogue came up you could actually give him a pet deathclaw
I'm happy MacCready was so high on the list. His story, character arc, and sense of humor all make him really enjoyable to travel with, and he's a hell of a shot. Not to mention his voice actor, Matt Mercer, does an amazing job with his lines, giving Mac some of the most emotional dialogue in game.
Correction about Danse; he’s an escaped synth, which means the Railroad helped him escape and gave him new memories, so he’s never been under institute control
@@dragoncarnage1210 he was just getting beat on mercilessly by the behemoth. It was over a decade ago so I don't exactly remember why I couldn't help in time.
I remember getting ambushed by a Deathclaw and was near death when Fawkes came flying out of nowhere to beat the Deathclaw into oblivion. That moment Fawkes became my favorite companion.
Preston Garvey is unfairly treated by this list. His radiant quests are that of poor game design, not of a bad companion. He’s a decent fighter and a pretty neat character. His blind idealism of the minuteman to his realization of their flaws, him being passively suicidal, and helping a broken person repair his dream of helping others.
Yeah, the fact that they chose him over a character that is _literally designed to make your game worse as a joke_ just shows how much they're leaning into the memes with this one.
I disagree Preston is just as annoying as Prairie dog if not more but the difference is Preston can talk and request us to do stuff which like him already talking so much then requesting us to do stuff to make him happy him interrupting us is just too mar from a good companion like cait who makes dope quips and besides that barely says anything till we have her quest which isn’t too much and is actually fun compared to Preston’s quests.
I loved ED-E. He kinda acts as a true dogmeat replacement. Though not a canine companion, he shares a similar relationship Dogmeat's owner in Fallout 1 had with the dog. He is quite alive in the DLC using beeps and other electronic sound to express emotion. Thus ED-E is like a living being rather than just an Eyebot. He acts as a workbenches, repairs your weapon for free once a day, and supplies energy ammo. This is from the Commradri-E he gets from upgrades. And you get the perks to the original ED-E. I wish you can have the ED-E personality from Lonesome Road in Vanilla New Vegas. It makes ED-E more....alive
Codsworth will always be my fave. Especially when you have the automaton DLC, upgrade him to have dual Gatling guns. All whilst keeping his voice and personality.
@@paradoxfox5291 And the dog isn't a lazy bum that constantly tells you to go save some settlement while he just sits his ass comfortably in a settlement.
Paradox Fox dun fact, Dogmeat is the only companion who doesn’t have an affinity for the player. He was originally supposed to be there along side another companions, but this idea was scrapped last second for no seeable reason.
@@MrJinglejanglejingle You know what's funny? In the original concept for New Vegas, you can marry Cassidy while being drunk and you met up at the Kings. But apparently, one of the staff members didn't like romances, i can't recall who that was... But it would've been fun and made be happy lol.
I know not many would share my sentiment, but Cass from New vegas is my favorite companion. Not only because her backstory and heritage a callback to fallout 2 (with her being the daughter of a legacy companion as well a tribal woman), but her personality and demeanor made her a joy to be around. I enjoyed the conversations I had with her as well as her companion quests. Plus Her character fits perfectly with the western aesthetic new vegas has.
I Share Your Sentiment, I Keep A Squad Of Companions And Cass Is Always Right Behind Me With The 5.56 Pistol And A Katana, Veronica Behind Her, Arcade, Then Ed-E And Boone Sniping. (Usually Keep A Ranger And A Soldier As Well)
In the 360 version of fallout 3 i found a glitch with dogmeat that allowed me to recruit extra companions, which automatically made dogmeat the best. Imagine the last thoughts of a raider when when the lone wanderer, dogmeat, jericho, star cross paladin, charon, and fawkes walk in. It was OP
I’m late to the party, but Trapped In Fallout has a video on how to get all the companions to follow you. Kill Dogmeat, recruit a 2nd follower. Then go get Dogmeat at Vault 101. He’ll be the third companion. Kill him again, recruit a different third companion and return to 101. Keep on until they all are following you.
@Thewriteway2fail. You probably have broken steel installed then. It gives a huge buff to dogmeat (and fawkes I think?) in terms of health unless you then have the unofficial patch which then unfortunately nerfs them again.
He is my favorite for new vegas, he's just so good in combat. Chardon is my favorite for fallout 3, and Nick Valentine is my fav or Fallout 4, although I really enjoy romancing all of them!
@@windhelmguard5295 Nah. You find one in Navarro, along with your MKII Power Armor, and it's an essential mission, so it's really hard to miss. Plus there's some available for purchase. In San Francisco for sure.
Boone is my homie, my first follower, and a damn good one at that, and a horribly tragic backstory, getting him his revenge felt almost as relieving for me as him. Watching this "cold, callous, sniper" archetype slowly break down into a more emotionally devastated man was also cathartic, letting me see more of a character i was genuinely interested in. And demolishing Legion camps with Boone was satisfying as hell.
Yes, I’ve literally played through almost the entire game with him as my companion several times. He’s just got such an interesting back story. Has to be my number one companion by a mile.
My favorite is ED-E. I am very attached to my little robot pal, and the little jingle he plays whenever he spots an enemy I have yet to spot myself. He is cute, he packs a punch, and he is always vigilant. He is also, incidentally, my first recruited companion in any FNV playthrough, the adorable little ball of death.
Funny thing is his default shotgun is OP because it has a tight spread so he basically snipes with it. The terrible shotgun has a HUGE spread, so I'm not sure how accurate he is with it, but it's a baddass gun as well.
@@RjGoombes Weird, Charon is always the companion who tends to survive on my play-throughs, you the robot and clover tend to die out almost as soon as I get them. The robot (yes I forgot his name) dies from a strong gust of wind usually
Veronica is definitely the best. When she told me on my first playthrough that all she wanted was a dress I dropped everything to go find it. I killed way to much npc before I discoverd it had to be a dress from the white glove society. And when I gave it to her it felt like I just made a real person happy 10/10
@@deozeo4442 It's the fact none of the dresses have better DT than Veronica's starting clothing even. Even Vera's starter gear didn't have that buff to make it trigger.
You missed that with Broken Steel assuming you met him with the DLC already installed) Fallout 3 Dogmeat has health in the literal thousands of you're a high enough level and is next to invincible, which for me led to the hilarious instance of him being repeatedly ragdolled by a Behemoth that was fixated soley on him while I slowly chipped away at its health, and getting up immediately like nothing happened after said Behemoth finally died.
You completely forgot Dogmeat from Fallout 2. Yes, he's literally just the same dog from Fallout 1 found in a special encounter but he's gotten so much stronger. Like in FO1 he's a nice companion but kind of weak late game. In FO2 he's a monster who runs the whole field and does like 9 bites in a row.
Fawks is my favorite companion. He’s almost impossible to kill, has two really good weapons (his Super Sledge and Gatling Laser) and I just really enjoy his combat dialogue. There is nothing better than walking around the capital wasteland and randomly hearing Fawks scream and mow down a vicious dog with his Gatling Laser.
@@dinkydamn agread I acualy like Davin and miria but they are utterly useless. sulik and Cassady are used till I mess up and get them killed in every playthrough I have ever done in fallout 2, he is correct about it being a real shame that sulik and Cassady quest got cut though.
@@johnaustin209 Super Sledge is really bad for melee builds in 1v1s, Rippers are straight up better(despite having lower damage), Wakizashis are arguably good against armored targets This also applies to melee companions, which Sulik is one of
I really found her love quadrangle between Trash Hulk, Metal Husband, and the tragically late Roachie, to be by far the most immersive and deeply emotionally impactful companion back story in the entire series.
Nick Valentine his hands-down my favorite. Between his excellent voice acting, personal story, and involvement in the main quest line, he’s just awesome.
Curie was my absolute favorite. One time I was clearing out a raid at Nordhagen Beach, and suddenly she went on to asking me to get a body beyond her Miss Nanny robotness. After I helped her take a synth body, she became an adorable companion to be with. Her quips and pre-war headedness just makes it a joy going through a gunfire with. Since then, I've made Nordhagen a place where she could stay at and enjoy the beach.
I played through fallout 3 dozens of times over the last ten years and never once did Dogmeat die on me. For a while I thought he was set as essential.
If you have Broken Steel installed and do not use the unofficial patch, Dogmeat and Fawkes are almost indestructible. Many use the patch, which will turn Dogmeat into tissue paper again, or at least, it did for me.
He’s died several times on me. The one time I tried to kill him he was suddenly tough as nails, but on a normal day in the wasteland, he walks onto on a mine or charges straight for enemies you’ve barely scoped out with a sniper rifle and intended to just ignore.
Yeah it's because of Broken Steel. In short: they wanted to buff Dogmeat and Fawkes health, and accidently buffed them too much. So instead of being just a slight buff to make them more viable, they ended up with around 25000 hp.
@@devilmastar8925 Exactly, that's also why most companions have voice lines to dogmeat outside settlements. BTW I'm playing FO4 on PC and put that mod that restored that function, and now I can see why they cut the option to bring dogmeat as an extra follower.
@redtormaximo5530 most npcs that mention your companion will have extra dialoug if you have dogmeat with for example piper they will say "keep your friend and that dog in check" or things along that line dogmeat as a secondary companion was fully developed but cut at thw very last second.
In Fallout 4, Dogmeat, when you have the perks can actually be quite useful. Also, dog meat is the one companion that you can have with you and still take advantage of the lone wanderer perk. Finally, like all follow for companions you can instruct him to pick up an infinite amount of items even though it would exceed his normal weight limit.
I really really like Old Longfellow as a companion, he's my go-to guy in F4, but still I mostly agree with his placement. He isn't implemented as well into the game as other companions who have a comment on a ton of things. His dialogue is exhausted pretty quickly. But what he has is simply amazing. I just really like having a Dangerous Old Guy on my side.
Only issue with this list is you didnt take into consideration the unique perk each companion gives you. For example Prestons perk isnt the best but it is actually decent and definitely not the worst.
Exactly - with FO4 I use (good- or neutral-aligned) companions till I get their perk, then switch them. In other words, Nick, Deacon, Cait, Codsy, Piper, Curie, Danse and Hancock. Then I go off into the sunset with Cait or Piper, depending on character.
I always wished Oswald The Outrageous would've made a great companion. Imagine his skill being that he can revive ferals, that even though would be harmless to you, but could be made to attack enemies, or at least create a distraction so you could slip past them. He could've been able to use his magic tricks to create illusions to confuse enemies. Whether he should be romancible would be up for debate, but I'm sure dating a human (or ghoulish) glowstick has some perks (can't think of any at the moment, but different strokes for different folks.)
And also give him a weapon that doesn’t suck. The laser musket can do a lot of damage if you crank it all the way with the right modifications, but in its regular state I wouldn’t even bother using it except very early in the game.
If I'm not mistaken, the way Preston's infamous radiant quests were handled was actually a glitch. Somewhere in his dialogue, something gets skipped, causing him to give you a new quest immediately after you turn in the previous quest. You can observe this if you are playing with subtitles on. Right after he congratulates you on helping a settlement, a line of dialogue subtitles flash on screen for a split second before he says, "Anothe settlement needs your help."
I was confused when you mentioned that Codsworth will say the player's name because he never did that in my playthroughs. Did some research and it turns out he's not pulling from a database of sounds, he's pulling from a database of ~900 set names/words. You can find it online if you're interested in hearing Codsworth say your character's name in your next playthrough.
He also recognizes spelling and grammar as well. I tried making a Barbarian character named Grognak, but I styled it as a nickname. His full name was Stu "Grognak" Bonner, parentheses included, and when the time came, I got "Sir". Had to shuffle it around so that my guy actually legally changed his name to Grognak "Stu" Bonner to get it to work.
I’m really glad to see Butch having a higher placement than I thought he would because I know a lot of people don’t really like him but he’s by-far one of my fave companions! Don’t get me wrong I can understand why people wouldn’t like him since he’s pretty much yours and Amata’s childhood bully and all but I always put it down to him acting up due to having an unstable home life with his alcoholic mother. Some of his dialogue is hilarious though with the perfect mix of being slightly cowardly yet a total braggart and him flirting with my female lone wanderer cracks me up. He’s pretty nifty with a pistol too. Plus he was the only one who was nice to me when I returned to the vault / got kicked out so yeah friendship ended with Amata now Butch is my best friend.
Man I'm really chilling with Danse, I just love to hangout with serious people, they makes me laugh from time to time. And they are always resourceful and full of knowledge, and yes Arcade is my favorite NV companion.
For Strong, while you don't get a proper quest, you do get affinity moments with him, like with the other Fallout 4 companions. And through those maxing his affinity, Strong gets the metaphorical definition of the milk of human kindness, even if he doesn't know it. I believe it's better that way anyways. He might outright reject the truth if someone told him. Besides that, Strong gives a unique perspective of the Super Mutants of the Commenwealth, and how their warbands work.
Yeah this list isn't that good I'm not at the end but I made it to strong and he is way too low so is Preston in my opinion if you rank characters on memes the list won't be as good as others
Whilst I loved the Fallout 4 companions, I feel like New Vegas had spoilt me by allowing a human(oid) companion AND either ED-E or Rex. Arcane even has a specific line about it if you travel with him and Rex 😂 you should be able to have a doggo AND human companion in all games dammit!
I have an unlimited companion mod, and made red rocket into a meetup place for them, its a lot of fun and the endings are always awesome with my small army vs whatever faction I decide to fight
Perhaps, Deacon is Maiq the liar . Deacon knows much, tells some. I mean, Deacon does admit he can be a Ghoul, a woman, and anything that the device to reshape his body could possibly do. Maiq the liar, could be done. :O
With regards to Sulik I would place him higher on the list, give him a super sledge, he actually pretty good with one, DON'T give him a SMG, I still have nightmares, he is also a useful pack mule. I know Preston Garvey IS annoying with his constant "oooh, look a settlements in trouble" talk and his idealistic nature, but I do think he really shouldn't be below, Clover, Myron and Miria/Darvin because when all's said and done, because of Preston you get the artillery piece, a perk that increases both damage and resistance when fighting groups of 3+ and he can at least fight.
Anyone who played New Vegas and used Boone knows that he is (probably?) the best Companion in the entire franchise for just straight up killing, and efficiency while doing so, he is my personal favorite because his lore is interesting and he's insane at killing which goes hand in hand with his lore. I also really liked the Idea behind Jericho with requiring bad Karma to have, and I think that's where Gage maybe had some inspiration from?
@@kingofthegrill Aside from what churr already pointed out in the mid and early game if you bring veronica to hunt Cazadores she will likely die in hardcore on the other hand Boone just snipe them like a beast, also if you give Boone the AMR with explosive rounds he can easily overcome Veronica before she can engage in close combat
Also helps Boone acts as a great aid if you piss off the Legion early by killing Vulpes and rescuing the gangers at the camp nearby. You got enough time to run into one of the assassination squads if you got the loyalty too low, and then you meet Boone who basically can pop an assassin head instantly with his hate bonor for the Legion...
My first playthrough of New Vegas (which was basically my first-ever FPS game playthrough ever) I ended up recruiting Boone, and he ended up being so strong and reliable that I actually hated playing with him. It felt like Boone was playing the game, not me lol. I ended up choosing to stick with Cass afterward, mostly just to have her carry all my extra stuff, and usually went down in fights super quick so I would get to do the fights all on my own
Critically underrated Sulik- easily one of the most useful FO2 companions, effective with melee and ranged weapons. It is a little sad that his sister's quest was cut, but it's not really fair to hold friendly fire against him, as that was a problem for every single ranged companion in the Interplay games.

Piper - ( amazing character, bad journalist, great side kick, and girlfriend *wink*) Paladin star (great companion and childhood friend) Macready - (bounty hunter, nice story line, good righthand man) Marcus - ( lovable super mutant, he does have a friendly fire, smooth dialogue) Fawkes (amazing name, history and dialogue) K9 - ( can talk, walk and stalk) Rex - ( he served as a police dog, great dog and has many perks of your choice) Ada - ( customizable, untapped potential, but a great overall companion) Codsworth - ( nice voice, great dialogue, and doesn't get annoying at least not for me, wish he could become a synth) Hancock - ( loveable character and dialogue, terrible shot, drug addict but your best man) Arcade - (a doctor with a good shot) Paladin danse - ( betrayed by his own family, a noble synth, great leader with great stats due to power armor bonus) Deacon - ( a plan liar, but a friendly liar, but his mysterious demeanor quickly deteriorates when having him around, great perk tho) Old longfellow - ( a historical background, but valentine is a better companion during far harbor and usefulness) Lily the super mutant - (the strong granny) Ian - ( great starting companion but mediocre with a interesting dialogue) John - ( he has a medical drawback) Rl-3 ( good for distance but is a low selective option) Dogmeat 3 - ( noble companion and historical figure) Robodog - (hes a robodog but not as impressive or as cool as rex) Butch - ( he wont be calling the shots anymore *you will*) X-688 - ( blocked off due to only being able to unlock him after joining the institute and there's better companions out there like dogmeat) Strong - ( you would think having a super mutant would be awesome but strong doesn't make the cut) Porter gage - (raider Preston's done rightish) Skynet - (dont lie he'll kill your companions, he can tank but quest to make him is troublesome) Cylik - ( just a cut character with nothing going for him) Pariah dog - (just takes up a companion slot) Katja - ( a poorly made punching bag) Clover - ( just a broken slave sadly) Preston's - (annoying beyond belief) Daven and moria - ( just plain messed up and stressful for your player character) Jericho - ( the peak of what most people are in the wasteland, just straight scum) Myron - ( assualter and complete wierdo, hes also a great human shield since he dies extremely fast) * I missed a few but this is my personal list based off of uniqueness, personality and character usefulness*
Raul is incredibly useful in and out of combat. In combat he just melts enemies with little difficulty. Outside he can repair your gear to peak performance. He’s also just hilarious.
I went a different route and missed dog meat, after the Concord I went straight to the diamond city so Piper was my first, and for a long time, only companion. So i wish she was higher, it's weird because I'm aware their both mediocre compared to others
Cait can be a really effective character, I always give her a pipe smg and a couple of molotovs to start with and she really holds her own. Her lock picking ability is really useful too. I really love her story though so she's always been my favorite in Fallout 4.
Possible one of the more subjective RANKED lists we've ever done! We don't reckon ANYBODY has reasonable grounds to disagree with Preston's placement, but sound off in the replies about who your favourite wasteland companion is!
I'd love to see a video on all the followers in the elder scrolls series 💜
Fallout 3: Dogmeat and RL-3
Fallout 4: Piper and Dogmeat
Fallout NV: Veronica and ED-E (Sorry Rex, you just weren't as crucial as ED-E's Cannon Upgrade.)
Great vid guys, Rex was my favorite companion, not only was he from Denver it's also hinted that he belonged to Caesar at one point as well.
dogmeat (FO3): dies in 3-4 hits
dogmeat (FO4): gets back up after getting hit by a fatman
My issue with Dogmeat (FO4) he is attempting to kill you all the time. :D Find an enemy brings them to me, I look from a highway bridge...push! If there are landmines, Dogmeat finds them...lol...too bad it is normally when I am beside him. :O

I don't care what you say, Raul Tejada is easily one of my favorites. Every time you talk to him there's a level of supportive snark I adore
Me too, I love Raul. He’s just a sarcastic old man and I love that
I love Raul, especially his passive aggressive dialogue on Black Mountain when he asks you to take him with you. Or he could go alone. Unarmed. Vulnerable. But that's ok, boss, you can make your own decisions. Love that guy.
Danny Trejo is the voice actor behind Raul ;)
raul is the best companion say you have a light machine gun and surplus 556 and raul wellmyou just beat the game
I genuinely feel bad about crouching when Raul is a companion.
I think Nick is one of the deepest characters besides Markus. His monologue after the Winters adventure is over? His “coming to realization” with DiMa? How he talks to Kasumi with her identity struggle? His whole “are you sure you are ready for all this?” Attitude with the Kellog story?! God damn man.
fr man if there was a definitive best companion in the series it would have to be Nick
I love how he keeps trying to arrest the 'Mysterious Stranger' if you have that perk.

Could not disagree more about Raul. You're totally leaving out how hilarious he is. Listen to some of his lines. Love that sarcastic old bastard. "Your decisiveness is truly a wonder to behold, boss."
Agreed
And when you dismiss him he says “good idea, I mean sure”
He's one of my favorites. Also find his perk is incredibly powerful for long fights.
Or the start of rampancy just like Cortana.
Amen.
Freakin love ED-E. It's why I rate Lonesome Road so highly. Also, it's a wonderfully deep story with some of the most challenging areas in Fallout history. Very Hard+No Bullet/No Stim Run+Courier's Mile=Glorious
he's my favorite little flying sphere
Never thought I’d feel bad for a flying radio.
My only grievance with Boone is when he snipes an enemy from half a mile away and the jarring shift in camera and the slowed down sound scare the crop out of me.

Try turning off Cinematic Death Camera in options
Honestly, that’s fact. And SO relatable.
"It's over now". I didn't even know it started!
so true lol
My number 1 will always be Boone. The man stories hit harder than a supersledge to the chest and nevermind the fact that he literally takes enemies out before they even get close enough to respond puts him in more of a guardian angel catagory
Him and Upgraded EDE is a absolute unit. I usually do a sniper/explosives build with some higher end Energy weapons too.
His aggro range is the only thing I hate about him, walking through the waste the moment you become aware of an enemy is usually after he has shot it
I always have to break my heart between Raul and Boone. On one hand I have a God tier sniper making sure nothing sneaks up on Me. But on the other hand I like cowboy Danny Trejo complimenting my own cowboy build

She was a bitch. =P
It was actually a different woman. The way McCready phrased it, he first met her *after* he left the vault.
Not the same one though I’m not sure why cause that would have been great.

It was OP
What's the glitch? I have the 360 version of GOTY and I wanna try this.
@@Honor_and_Steel i dont recall exactly. It had something to do with either killing him or dismissing him, its been a long time
@@MrSignallost333 I'll check forums. If I find it, I'll let you know.
I've never had Dogmeat die on me in Fallout 3. Like I literally watch him/her fight a Deathclaw 1 on 1 and win.
@Thewriteway2fail. You probably have broken steel installed then. It gives a huge buff to dogmeat (and fawkes I think?) in terms of health unless you then have the unofficial patch which then unfortunately nerfs them again.
I regret taking the Puppies perk on my first play through, it’s such a waste.
With Broken Steel Dogmeat scales with player level
We have the same dogmeat then
consider replacing him/her w/ them, since it's easier and faster to type and means the exact same thing.
Boone.... Boone..... and Boone.
He is my favorite for new vegas, he's just so good in combat. Chardon is my favorite for fallout 3, and Nick Valentine is my fav or Fallout 4, although I really enjoy romancing all of them!
Dude, Sulik is one of the most effective companions in F2. You give him a power armor and a super sledge, and there's little he can't take on.
Better give him a weapon that doesn't push away enemies to maximize dps
We be a handful
sadly just finding a super sledge is a pain in the ass. honestly don't remember ever actually finding one.
@@windhelmguard5295 Nah. You find one in Navarro, along with your MKII Power Armor, and it's an essential mission, so it's really hard to miss.
Plus there's some available for purchase. In San Francisco for sure.
Agreed, he's one of the best F2 companions (if not the best?)
Boone is a true homie!
His frigging auto heads headshots were pretty sweet though
Best non quest in the game. Having Boone as back up when you murder a town full of Roman cosplayers and then go murder their bald emperor
I can’t believe Myron wasn’t at the bottom of the list.
GIVE ME PRESTON AND BADLUCK DOG ANYDAY OVER THAT
Probably drugged the Creators of the list.
But... It's Myron! Myron, baby, Myron!
He's an actual character bro, what can I say
Right? I mean... I hate Preston, but at least he’s not evil like Myron
It's a shame Dog and God were ruled out. They're one of my favorite companions.
A ranking of DLC companions would be cool tho :)

Yes, I’ve literally played through almost the entire game with him as my companion several times. He’s just got such an interesting back story. Has to be my number one companion by a mile.
He's just really that likeable
His voice is fantastic as well
My favorite is ED-E. I am very attached to my little robot pal, and the little jingle he plays whenever he spots an enemy I have yet to spot myself. He is cute, he packs a punch, and he is always vigilant. He is also, incidentally, my first recruited companion in any FNV playthrough, the adorable little ball of death.
I was very happy to see Charon in the top 10, he's always been my go-to companion in Fallout 3. give him the Terrible Shotgun and stand back lmao
Funny thing is his default shotgun is OP because it has a tight spread so he basically snipes with it. The terrible shotgun has a HUGE spread, so I'm not sure how accurate he is with it, but it's a baddass gun as well.
I genuinely can not understand why people like him. I gave him God damn enclave power armor and he died on the first fight we encountered.
RJ Goombes fun fact clover out stats charon entirely. Lol
Rabid Bear but would you take her over a gunfight than Charon? And he’s pretty cool with his freakish height

Yes exactly!
Thank you for that comment. I have been scrolling for it for a while (loosing hope) but you had delivered.
Thank you, exactly this!

Nice list but we all know the best companion is The Final Pam: The Unyielding, The Undying, The Devourer, The Existence-Eater, the Fearkeeper.
Pam is too powerful to be contained on a list. They omitted her for our safety.
I really found her love quadrangle between Trash Hulk, Metal Husband, and the tragically late Roachie, to be by far the most immersive and deeply emotionally impactful companion back story in the entire series.
You fool! That careless mention has broken the continent, and now The Final Pam is free to wreak havoc on all of TH-cam!
Nick Valentine his hands-down my favorite. Between his excellent voice acting, personal story, and involvement in the main quest line, he’s just awesome.
He was easily the worst to me, so cliche.
No matter how many times I play through FO4, I will always end up traveling with Cait
Sameee
Most of the time I go with codsworth just for his voice lines
sameeeeee
Codsworth sentry bot.
I usually always go with piper.
Hes never died for me either
If you have Broken Steel installed and do not use the unofficial patch, Dogmeat and Fawkes are almost indestructible. Many use the patch, which will turn Dogmeat into tissue paper again, or at least, it did for me.
He’s died several times on me. The one time I tried to kill him he was suddenly tough as nails, but on a normal day in the wasteland, he walks onto on a mine or charges straight for enemies you’ve barely scoped out with a sniper rifle and intended to just ignore.
Played on easy^
Yeah it's because of Broken Steel. In short: they wanted to buff Dogmeat and Fawkes health, and accidently buffed them too much. So instead of being just a slight buff to make them more viable, they ended up with around 25000 hp.
You forget that dog meat from fallout 4 let's you use the "lone wanderer" perk, one of the best perks in the game early on.
but also only because of the programming, originally it should be possible to have Dogmeat and another companion at the same time.
@@devilmastar8925 Exactly, that's also why most companions have voice lines to dogmeat outside settlements. BTW I'm playing FO4 on PC and put that mod that restored that function, and now I can see why they cut the option to bring dogmeat as an extra follower.
Cheat room mod: am I a joke to you?
@redtormaximo5530 most npcs that mention your companion will have extra dialoug if you have dogmeat with for example piper they will say "keep your friend and that dog in check" or things along that line dogmeat as a secondary companion was fully developed but cut at thw very last second.
In Fallout 4, Dogmeat, when you have the perks can actually be quite useful. Also, dog meat is the one companion that you can have with you and still take advantage of the lone wanderer perk. Finally, like all follow for companions you can instruct him to pick up an infinite amount of items even though it would exceed his normal weight limit.
And you can fix the game so you can have a follower and Dogmeat.

Cait and Nick Valentine will always be my favorite companions. Their quests are also surprisingly fun, for just being fetch quests.
I am SO happy that MacCready was so high on this list. He's a sweet baby.
Rex in New Vegas is actually a reference to Robodog. He might even be him. You can also find a Dr. Henry in Jacobstown
It’s the same doctor Henry from fallout 2
It’s the same dr Henry and he even talks about his time in the enclave
Only issue with this list is you didnt take into consideration the unique perk each companion gives you. For example Prestons perk isnt the best but it is actually decent and definitely not the worst.
Exactly - with FO4 I use (good- or neutral-aligned) companions till I get their perk, then switch them. In other words, Nick, Deacon, Cait, Codsy, Piper, Curie, Danse and Hancock.
Then I go off into the sunset with Cait or Piper, depending on character.
MacCready's perk was so OP at launch they nerfed it. Before the nerf it gave you a 95% chance to instant headshot any enemy.
Come on, give Strong some love... "Strong hungry, Strong need someone to eat."
You'll eat no one and like it!

My favorite part about codsworth is that you can rebuild him into the ultimate British super weapon with the robot workbench

My favorite part about Codworth is that he'll call me "Mr. Dick"
"I want a dress"

i gave her one and her response is so funny
Nick is so fun. The fact that a random encounter with raiders can end because they recognize him is awesome.
Hancock is my favorite, he’s always fun to have around because I love his personality.
Dark Raven dude finally someone understands 😌
But he has the aim of helen keller trying to use a shotgun
Chili that IS a mod on xbox, actually
♡♡ Hancock ♡♡
I actually like Preston. The ill thought out game mechanics attached to him aren't his fault. Plus you can easily mod them out.
Agreed. He's a good companion and a bit underrated.
Agreed, the sound of the word babe from his mouth will always make me cringe though, it's almost as awkward as all of the dialog pauses.
@Preston Garvey 😅...Hey Babe, I didn't see you there!
He was a bully, sure, but in a game loaded with utter psychopaths and complete monsters, I'm more than happy to give Butch a second chance.
Yo, Sulik is the F-ing, man. Give him a super sledge and some decent armor and he will put the entire team on his back. His dialogue is awesome too.
Exactly
ED-E and ADA are probably my favorite companions out of all Fallout. They're good bots with a good heart. -With mods ADA can be an Eyebot too.-
Man I'm really chilling with Danse, I just love to hangout with serious people, they makes me laugh from time to time. And they are always resourceful and full of knowledge, and yes Arcade is my favorite NV companion.
Danse and Arcade are my two favorites as well! Along with ED-E.
And he's so good in combat. Also, it feels like I have a underling/minion when I have him by my side, which I love.
Honestly, I enjoyed the fact that Strong was so different from Marcus and Fawkes.
Yeah this list isn't that good I'm not at the end but I made it to strong and he is way too low so is Preston in my opinion if you rank characters on memes the list won't be as good as others
And he gets bonus points for being voiced by Sean Schemmel, who's no stranger to playing strong, dumb guys who try to be good people.
I agree. Strong is my third favorite companion behind Nick and Danse in fallout 4. Boone and Arcade should be higher and so should Cas.

Deacon is literally just the Fallout version of Maiq the liar
Perhaps, Deacon is Maiq the liar
And Sulik is the first companion most would recruit in Fallout 2, giving you that early edge
He (Sulik) is deadly with a .223 Pistol, most players probably never given him that though.
Veronica in power armor with Greased Lightning is ten times deadlier than Boone with Survival Armor and an Anti Materiel Rifle
@@kingofthegrill Early to mid game Boones probably better because you don't really need to do anything to get him 😂
@@kingofthegrill Aside from what churr already pointed out in the mid and early game if you bring veronica to hunt Cazadores she will likely die in hardcore on the other hand Boone just snipe them like a beast, also if you give Boone the AMR with explosive rounds he can easily overcome Veronica before she can engage in close combat
