I'm blessed to be able to play 5 different courses at the resort I work at. I've found every type of ball imaginable and tried them all. Nothing beats a yellow Pro V1, but a very close second is the neon green Vice Pro. Honestly, I would play the Vice if I paid for balls, but with 300 million lost, someone has to find them.

I have been using SD-05 and very pleased with them. I sometimes go 2 or 3 rounds before losing it, or, as you say, I start spraying them around!!!! Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I've been using the Maxfli Straightfli and have had great luck with them. Durability has been outstanding. I'm not good enough to worry much about "spin" yet but I've been happy with it's rollout after landing. Also love the orange color.

I really appreciate that you are promoting affordable golf equipment. I have been using the Kirkland ball for 3 years now. Played the ProV 1 for many years and yes the Kirkland bal maybe a half a club shorter but off the irons and wedges it feels and performs the same. My only complaint was the poor durability of the cover on the V2 but have been playing the new version for a couple of months now and it is noticeable how the durability was improved.

I got my annual shipment of 5 dozen Snell MTB Prime balls about two weeks ago. I think I paid $27 per dozen. I've played them outside once (it is winter up here after all) and they perform very well, including being very spinny on the scoring clubs, which surprised me. Indoors they exhibit the same spin characteristics, low off the driver face and three to four thousand rpm off the sand wedge on a 35 yard chip. And they are very durable; on my last outdoor round I had occasion to get into a couple of sand traps (wet, hard packed sand) and the ball came out without a blemish, spun to a quick stop and were very much everything I had hoped for.
These will last me the entire 2024 season, partly due to mad skills and partly because I'm not long enough off the tee to get into real trouble any more. Your mileage may vary, of course.

That’s a great video James. I’ve been using Kirkland for a couple of years now, and I’ve always wondered if there was a better option for the similar price point. Much more useful than telling me how it compares to a ProV1. Keep up the good stuff mate.

Been playing Vice Pro Plus for 2 years now and I prefer them to any other ball. I love the way they stop on firm greens when hit with a mid-iron. I buy 5 dozen at a time to get the lowest price and as a 12 handicap that will last me a whole year. I'm not sure how durable they are as I tend to lose them faster than I can wear them out.

Like many here I play the Vice pro plus. It has been an extremely good ball for me. There was a very short adjustment period when I switched, mostly around the greens. 3 rounds after the switch I can't imagine changing back. I still find and play Pro V1's every now and again. I do admit that the Pro V is better. That being said, you would have to be a better golfer than myself to utilize the differences.

I bounce between a 5-10 handicap. I've been using the Kirklands for the last 3 years and using the last of my V2 stockpile before I switch to the V3. For $27 for 2 dozen there is no better price per ball anywhere for the Quality.
To put this in perspective for 55 dollars you can buy one dozen Pro V1's or 4 dozen kirklands.
Now lets say you use a sleeve of balls a round you would be paying an extra $165 in golf balls every 16 rounds of golf you played using the Pro V's. Stretch that out and every 48 rounds of golf that $495 and every 100 rounds your looking at a $1000+. So with that saving you can either buy a new driver every year, a new set of irons every 2 years, take lessons or even take a nice vacation to a dream destination. As long as I can find the Kirklands I will continue playing them and enjoy my savings and give up my 3-5 yards on a drive and 300-500rpm on wedges.
Thanks James for the great content and keep it coming.

At the risk of being repetitive, my personal pics are, in order of merit. At number 1 Vice Pro, and a close second, Snell MTB black [ now called the prime ] the MTB X was also good, but I do prefer a softer feeling ball, and play high spin, also , the Vice was a bit more durable. [ in my humble opinion ] On the budget end the Kirkland and the Enisis were just too unpredictable. I would be interested in re testing the Snell mtb prime, but it would have to be something VERY special to knock the Vice pro out of my bag.

I've tried most of these balls. I spent about 2 years trying to find the best ball for my game. The course I play on is usually windy. The Kirkland balls are absolutely awful when hitting into the wind. They just spin up and go nowhere. Of all the balls I tried they were the worst! I now play Wilson Triad all the time. If you buy in bulk, around 3 boxes, you can get them for less than £30 for a box of 12. I found the quality of the Vice balls very variable. I got some very strange flights from about 2 in each box. I assume the centres were not concentric. Golf Spy have recently done a review on the best golf balls available regardless of price. It's worth checking out what they say about the Wilson Triad.

I was using balata and for practice sirlin balls in nineteen seventy. But larger went out of fashion because itid1878 S too expensive and gets knocked about the 2 holes. Sir, Lynn blasted forever. Do you not remember the original spalding Top Flite balls? Which would smhatter in the winter? Or the Balate Penfold Ace. Wound balls which would go around corners? Gary Player used these, boy you could get smilies if you mis hit them. It was title list with the pts ball that gave the first promise that you could not cut it , if you did, they would replace it.

Played Snell MTB-X and loved it, but I understand that model is no longer available, and they are being manufactured in a different facility now. So not sure I’d go there. For me, the SRIXON Z star Diamond is the Goldilocks ball (12 HCP, 105mph driver swing)

Put me in the category where the type of ball I hit is irrelevant, simply because I am not anywhere near good enough to realize any difference there are in the different balls. For a long time I've been able to stay ahead of lost balls by finding others when looking for mine. I just hit whatever I find. I recently purchased a large batch of recon Kirklands on the cheap. I can confidently say that if I score poorly, it isn't the balls fault. It would be very interesting to see at what handicap does ball performance start to have an impact on your score.

I have loved Snell Golf Balls (and the "X" versions in particular) since they were first introduced ... and Dean Snell is a great guy, as well. I own 5 dozen of the MTB Prime X balls and they are fine golf balls in every respect. However, I also love the Vice Pro Plus balls. If you consider Maxfli to be a DTC ball, then it is a no-brainer for me -- the 4-piece Urethane cover Maxfli Tour X ball is the best ball of all, IMHO!

I have played the Vice Pro Plus and thought they were fine and was going to give the Snell MTB prime x a tryout since they are on sale currently for $124.95 for 5 dz..definitely a bargain since pro vs are twice that..should I get them? I’ve never tried them before but for $25/dz you can’t go wrong…

@@Tom-ok2rh- I say “go for it” if you are thinking about buying the Snell MTB Prime X balls. They perform great, are of very high quality, and if you weren’t aware of this, Dean Snell’s name is on the patents for the ProV1 and ProV1x balls, as well as several of the 5-piece TaylorMade Urethane-cover balls.

I don't lose hardly any balls through the course of a year. My biggest problem with the ball is I'm standing to close to the ball after I hit it.
Seriously though I like the ProV 1 and have been playing them for around 20 years. It may be to my advantage to test a few different balls as I may be missing out on performance.

The old Kirkland was a great ball but did scuff up easily, the new Kirkland feels the same but is as durable as any premium ball on the market. Don't tell too many people, they are starting to get hard to get.
