    Steve Perry with the Eels was awesome. Us fans don't require it to sound exactly like the album, we just want Steve's voice.

      I agree 100%!!! Steve Perry is and always will be the reason why Journey became what it was in the 10 years he was with them. Sorry, but it's just not the same without him. The band plays the sane now, still really good, but the singing isn't there without him. He's the best male vocalist in the industry

    People keep complaining that Steve didn't perform last night, NO ONE knows what he's carrying on his shoulders. Has anyone here talked with him and personally knows his cares and concerns regarding why he's chosen not to perform anymore? None of us walk in his daily shoes. Compassion people!!! We don't know what people deal with. Stevie, if you read this, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!! ALL YOU'VE SACRIFICED!! YOU HAVE MY TOTAL RESPECT!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!

      And this is why people don't respect him. Its fans like you that place all the blame on the others without acknowledging Perry's faults. He has performed within the last five years. This is a two way street. You can't go crying about the rest of the band and forget what that Perry was also involved.

    • @annsebastiano7507
      @annsebastiano7507 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @GoBlue I don't see Sarah blaming others. She's saying maybe he has things going on in his own life that stop him from performing, Don't read into things that aren't there. Why doesn't everyone just leave him to live his life!

      Yes no one knows what is going on with Steve Perry because he has done very little press or interviews & has zero social media of whats going on. Yes it's Steve's choice but he has to know people especially long time Journey fans want to know.

    I think anyone can appreciate when a touring schedule is so grueling, a member getting burned out- not feeling it. Steve was just being honest. I personally would not want to go to a concert where someone I wanted to see was feeling that way. Who wants to see someone that they like just going thru the motions. It's something a person can't really hide, and Steve is one of those guys whose very transparent. Theres a point where you consider someone a hindrance or give respect as a friend to their decision, a respect to the group brotherhood/friendship. Led Zeppelin disbanded over Bonhams demise. To respect the lead vocalist who is conveying the lyrical emotion of the song losing his genuine expressive feeling to a grueling schedule of " just do" wasn't asking a lot to understand.
    Perhaps Steve had such confidence in Journeys talent that he didn't feel being away awhile meant fading out, whereas other(s) suffered too much that thought. It was a time for the band to show their support to a fellow member and didn't. I'm sure there was some feeling of betrayal in that...who wouldn't feel that. Steve's new direction was pretty much mapped out by that and even if that path wasn't preferred, just like with a friends death, comes eventually a time to move on.

    • @chazer793
      @chazer793 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not true. Schon says that every time he tries to connect with Perry, all he gets are Perry's lawyer answering for him. People on the Perry camp seem hellbent on ignoring the fact that Perry is a quirky guy with a very unique personality. Yes, Schon can be a jerk at times, but it was Steve who unilaterally dismantled the band at the top of their game, fired Valory and Smith and even though had pretty much full creative control over the band decided to call himself "the outsider". People also forget almost 10 years of pleading Steve to return, plus one year of pleading to him to get the surgery so they could tour (which he ended up doing only after the band decided to move on). Yes... Steve's voice and soft spoken persona make him likable, but he is no angel nor a victim.

    I’m sorry but I still feel resentment towards Jonathan Cain. He disrespected Steve Perry when he (Cain) didn’t mention Steve when thanking past members. Obviously the numbers confirm when Journey was successful and when they weren’t. I’ve said this before, I believe it is jealousy on Cain’s part. I’m no longer a Journey fan because of the disrespect shown to Steve.

Journey will retire with Arnel Pineda, when the band says they had enough. getting close to there 70s. My best memories of Journey was St.Paul. Minnesota . Escape tour 1981. row one with high school friends. 15 years old. And lit. And Nael Schon . Steve Perry laughed. seeing drunk teenagers age boys in row one from center of the stage. 1981 Escape tour was the best. Never went to a Journey concert since Steve Perry left Journey. what a nice Speech from Journey

    Steve Perry has long ago said in public that with the aging of his voice he could never sing Journey's songs again as he could during the prime years; I believe him because vocal cords age just like everything else, and because of the demands of the Journey songbook to undoubtedly wear them out even quicker. I believe Arnel's voice is not what it was 10 years ago when he started with Journey. I don't care about the politics of bands, given the inherent clashes and egos of the creative process and the inevitability of these things to be transient by nature; I just feel very fortunate to have gotten to be a contemporary of the time Steve Perry was in his prime with Journey, and so should the band. Together they were part of a treasured soundtrack to my life which transports me back to significant times like great music does.

    Actually Journey the band was Neil Schon but Perry was the voice behind most of their hits. Schon has been there since day one and is still there so I believe he should be acknowledge as such. Great band, great musicians all of them and great to finally be inducted, long overdue.

    • @johnmiller5679

      It was Schon's band in the way that he owns the name help created it and was there through all singers, drummers bass players, keyboardist. Perry is more the voice of Journey yes but many are still going to see them play with the current singer and he helps keep the great music alive. I love Perry but he choose to leave and the band had to go on.

    • @dj3865
      @dj3865 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All true statements but for many Perry was the sound of Journey and they won't see them without him, which essentially means they will never see Journey again, that ship has sailed. I appreciate all the members as they are a band of incredible musicians (I especially love Schon and Smith) but if they don't change up their playlist I will be taking a break from seeing them for a while.

    • @tidusjecht9143

      @ John Miller,
      Actually Steve Perry didn't choose to leave. He just needed time that Neal & Jon weren't willing to give him. They could have done as he asked and changed the name to something else but they refused. As far as keeping great music alive, I'm gonna have to disagree with that also. Sadly Arnel slaughters those songs. Honestly It's quite embarrassing .

  • @chazer793
    @chazer793 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I don't get why everyone is so divisive over this. Steve's not playing with the band is as much an issue of his vocal chords as it is about the relationship with the band. He has said it a number of times himself that he was not ready for live gigs in general. As for who is to blame on the rift, there is plenty of blame to throw around. Those who think Cain and Schon are the jerks also forget Steve held the rest of the band hostage for 10 years during their peak and also was the main driver on the firing of Valory and Smith in the 80s. As for Arnel... maybe people should take notice that Steve in his speech made sure people knew he was supportive of him, so if Steve is OK with his replacement, why on earth shouldn't you? Just enjoy the music and the fact that unlike Cetera with Chicago (who was truly the jerk in his case), Steve did decide to show up.

      Doesn't matter how long Fleischman was there. Perry isn't the original lead singer. If you want to get technical Fleishman isn't either and that role goes to Rolie. If it wasn't for his bass player in the Alien Project hadn't died, Perry would NOT be in Journey.

He obviously feels his voice isn't up to his own high standards, and I don't blame him for not wanting to go on stage and make a fool of himself. Perry is pushing 70, after all. I wish people would quit ragging on the poor guy. I'm sure Perry wishes he had the vocal chops he had in his 20's and 30's too! I understand where you are coming from, but it is quite possible that he cannot sing well anymore and did not want to risk tarnishing the night and the legacy with a mediocre performance.
    I agree with the "give em what they want" creed for entertainers. But he is no longer an entertainer and has not been for years. He was there to be honored, not to perform. It wasn't a concert as much as it was a ceremony. The rock and roll hall of fame, and the world, wanted to honor his legacy and he showed, but he has no obligation to perform. If he were currently active like the rest of the band is then I would lean more your way. But if we were to honor a 68 year old baseball player, for instance, who has not been in the batters box for 20 years, I don't think we could be too upset if he didn't wanna take a few pitches in front of the whole world.
    I am also disappointed he did not sing, but that's his decision. And I respect that.
    My 2 cents. 😊

      Yes is a whole different enchilada. Are there hurt feelings? Probably, but they have a every interesting relationship which is a cross between bickering siblings and hired mercenaries. When everything is said and done, they are always willing to work together and the only reason Anderson is not back has more to do with Anderson wanting to limit his touring schedule which the band is unable and/or unwilling to accommodate for. It was sad to see that Bill Bruford would not coming out of his retirement to play for one song. Would have loved to see him banging the skins for Roundabout.And does anyone know what happened to Tony Kaye? I don't believe I saw him with the band, and he was inducted as well.

    • @dj3865
      @dj3865 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bands are in a tough spot when it comes to singers because their voice is their instrument. If you limit your touring and stretch out the time between shows then you are putting the entire band and crew up in hotels for days (not to mention, meals, parking, storage fees etc) which can get very costly and if they are only getting paid when they do actual hands on work they may not be making enough money for it to be worth their while. If you do one off shows here and there good luck finding crew to take care of the stage show because people want more steady work than just 6 shows a year and are going to turn you down. It's a catch 22 situation.

    • @chazer793
      @chazer793 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a bit of a misnomer... it is not a Yes reunion but rather Anderson Wakeman and Rabin adding Yes to their band name, similar to what ABWH tried to do in the 80s only to have Squire lawyer up over it. The key element here is the current lineup of Yes has no control over this as Jon Anderson is co-owner of the trademark. I guess there may have been some backroom negotiation going on with the guys during the Hall of Fame induction and things went south. That would explain Wakeman's tweet after the event saying about a possible reunion: "I can say 100% it's never going to happen".

      You don't know why he didn't...I wouldn't sing either, if i had to watch that little Asian karaoke singer, sing my songs that i wrote! Fuck that! Steve isn't the dick man. They ran him off along time ago when he was hurt and had to have hip surgery. And have never reached back out to him. Those are his songs that Arnel sang. He should have never, ever, been on the stage period! Biggest slap in the face to Steve Perry. Steve showed up and was humble. He shouldn't have to follow that half ass singer. Next!

    Why was the current Frontman Arnel Pineda not included in the induction?

    • @dj3865
      @dj3865 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rock hall chooses which members get inducted and they chose only to induct the hit making factory of the 70's/80's, the lineup(s) that made the most impact on music.

    • @e.cubarrubia8797
      @e.cubarrubia8797 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ DJ - - - It is a rhetorical question.
      But since you posted your a opinion, Journey floundered after SP left. His two replacement did not help. Journey became RELEVANT AGAIN ONLY AFTER Ariel Pineda became their front-man. In my humble opinion, Ariel Pineda was snubbed by the R&R HoF because he is an Asian (Filipino). The fact that the current members of Journey expressed their feelings that Ariel should have been inducted with the group validates the point.
      Perhaps you are too young to remember the incident regarding Sammy Davis, Jr. who was relegated to enter through the BACK DOOR of the building of the Casinos in Las Vegas where the RAT-PACK were to performed. The rest of the RAT-PACK REFUSED to get on stage and perform UNLESS and UNTIL Sammy Davis, Jr. was ALLOWED to enter THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR of the building.
      In the 1950s, Nathaniel (Nat King) Cole was treated shabbily by RCA. Research the subject and find out for yourself. After 60 years, RACIAL DISCRIMINATION is still alive and well in our country.
      I hope the entire member of the Journey do the right thing and pressure the R&R HoF to induct Ariel Pineda.

    • @dj3865
      @dj3865 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was in my teens when Journey was in their heyday and I do know that racial discrimination is still alive, not just in the US but worldwide. I do not live under a rock, and I do not support it. BTW, his name is Arnel, not Ariel.
      The rock hall didn't induct Steve Augeri, the first Perry replacement that took death threats when he stepped into those shoes, he was with them for 8 years. They also didn't induct Deen Castronovo who sat at the drum kit for 17 years, as well as covered lead vocals on songs that Arnel couldn't. Isn't it interesting that the band expressed their opinions about Arnel but not those guys? Me thinks it is because they knew Perry either wouldn't show/perform and they needed Arnel to be there. IMO that's when they opened their mouths because it would be awkward to have him sing for them but not get an award. If you think it is a race thing anything I say will not change your mind but I beg to differ.
      Journey came back to the forefront by way of licensing their music for TV/movies (ie. Sopranos final episode etc.) in a tiny lapse when they had no singer as Augeri had to leave due to vocal issues. They needed someone and quick so they could capitalize on their new found popularity and obtaining a guy with a Cinderella story helped their cause. But if you were honest about the situation you could look at it and see the band has not flourished, having only one charting album since Arnel joined, and is only reliving their glory years, which is the era that the rock hall recognized. I stand by my previous comment.

    You know it goes both ways to. Everyone is bashing Niel. SP fired Ross Valery and Steve Smith heading into ROR, for NO fuckin reason. He later admitted he would not have done that had he had a chance to do it all over again. It was Niels band before SP and he wanted to tour again. Perry wasn't in it for the long haul like Niel was. It was only a matter of time before they would have broken up again had SP not had the hip problems. Two headstrong people heading in totally different directions after Trial by Fire 🤔. It just wasn't meant to be again.

    wow! even after so many years have past till the day they were inducted to the Hall of Fame, Steve Perry didn't even give us a chance to see him perform even for the last time with Journey. There must really be a deep animosity that Steve Perry still carry on his shoulders against Journey!! Why doesn't he just bury the hatchet and mover on?

      There must be some some real deep feelings between these guys. I know Steve Perry was hurt about how he was treated by his so called brothers. he was a only child and really felt betrayed by them. He thought that they had his back. He gave them his blood sweat and tears.the way they use to tour for months. He gave his voice for years no matter what. The show must go on. Who could blame him for the way he felt and still feels. I support you Steve Perry . some time what you need.ain,t what you should have.

    Elvis has left the building...again! Where is Perry backstage after ALL these years? Hip problem? I have said this many times, Steve cannot sing and will not risk his legacy. There was NO reason he should not have sung at the HOF...NONE. He killed whatever grace he had in this band by bailing on them...again!

      By the way...Neal Schon does not agree with you. Read his most current interviews AFTER the induction and see the eloquent things he has to say about Perry....including wanting to do a bluesy R&B album with him. He is still a fan of Steve's current voice.

      Jeff, you said it yourself 'Steve cannot sing and will not risk his legacy', if he could he would have put out a significant body of work in the past 20 years. I was there and at the time very disappointed but now I feel he made the right choice. He showed, thanked his fans and put the final nail in the coffin regarding the NEVER ENDING question about a reunion. You know it, being in a band is like being in a marriage and you never go back to your ex after a divorce. Of course a shit ton of money would sway you but obviously he isn't broke enough to warrant repeating the experience.

    I have more respect for Ansley Dunbar than Steve Perry!!!! He's a spoiled brat that wanted to do things his way and never let Neal show what he could do on the guitar. He also got rid of Steve Smith and Ross Valory for the Raised on Radio album and it was so pop that Neal probably hated it. Bring back Journey before Perry!!!!!

      From what I understand Steve Perry still has rights to the music of Journey or at least the music that matters and still makes big bucks now from what he did in the past (writing the music) and what Journey does now. I would rather see him with Journey from a childhood memory perspective yet I would rather see him put out this solo album #3 and soar to the top by himself again. Then see what Journey does. Steve Perry gets money and royalties from both.
