    The very best sermon I've ever heard was by a Catholic priest in 1978. I was an Evangelical Protestant at the time. It was at St.Bonaventure on a Saturday afternoon with a Catholic friend. It was so good that I recorded it the next morning. I played to a group of people at a non-denominational Bible study. This was a group of Christians who were basically anti-catholic. I didn't tell them it was a priest and the guy who lead the study, began using some of the comments from the priest's sermon in his talks. I finally told him that it was a Catholic priest and he couldn't believe me. I've not heard such a moving sermon since then, Protestant or Catholic.

      DonDraperism ... Any priest who preaches with the gift of the Holy Spirit is a GREAT PRIEST, who is speaking the TRUTH. It has less to do with how good the priest is but how much of God's GRACE has been given to that priest... ONE OF MY FAVORITES IS FR JOHN CORAPI.

      LastSurvivor0064 Do you mean during this particular talk or in general? I believe Fr. Casey's recorded talks never take place during a mass. When he is speaking in a church, they have removed the blessed sacrament from the tabernacle/altar. So, not inappropriate to clap then (though I typically refrain anyway). But, I agree wholeheartedly that during a mass there should not be clapping. I also think that making general church announcements during a mass is improper.

    Thank you Father Casey! So sad and so true!
    The Monsignor in our church used to tell us that during PreCana counseling, we should "sleep" (meaning, have sexual relations of intercourse) with our fiance, at least 3 times to be sure that he is not Homosexual. The priest also told us to where sexy dresses when we Lector The Word Of THE LORD at the podium during Sunday mass. Another priest actually refused to give me communion because I was kneeling instead of standing. He shouted get up! And I remained on my knees waiting to receive my Lord, so in a rage he stepped aside and continued to offer the host to the line behind me while I was still on the floor. Devastating! I cried for weeks over that experience. Many of the so-called priests are now demons and serving Satan. We need holy priests like you father Casey to help us in our own church. The church belongs to God not to man. How dare they violate God's law! Thank you Father God bless you pray for us!

    I'm going to climb on the preachers podium. I am a cradle Catholic 57 y/o man and a sinner but a steadfast worshiper. Combat Veteran, Lieutenant Colonel Retired (2013) with 29 years of active service in the U.S. Army. I constantly fight and deal with the weight of my sins by going to confession when I can find a Priest available, which at times is like pulling teeth, stressing over local and world events and many personal challenges, mostly the rebellion of my wife and son towards me even as a good provider. My wife don't want to pray the Rosary and my son don't believe in the Church nor Jesus any longer. My wife goes to Mass with me every week but we are still arguing on every subject and divided in what is truth, causing me serious undue stress, I am currently at the brink of filing for separation because its too stressful for me to provide for a person that don't want to follow while I secure her and my lost son, we have been married for 34 years. My only son was confirmed and we went to Mass as a family, he attended a Protestant Christian College 2 years during my last assignment but quit, tried Protestant services and left the Church, he is 31 years old. I constantly tell him I love him and invite him occasionally to Mass at no avail. I led the mass while in the combat zone in Iraq 2008-09 and helped once the Archbishop of the U.S. Military Services during his visit to our Base, he scorned me not to drop his Bishop Staff when I was to hold it at Mass. What Holy man leader in his church, spites his brother in Christ over an object at the celebration of the Mass? You Clergymen better wake up and preach like Jesus did and Pope Francis is doing right now, with tender love and mercy for sinners, those separated from the
    Church, and those from other religions because many of you have caused the breakdown of Christ's Church. Make your preaching Holy, loving, tender and welcoming to all sinners like our Lord and Our Lady did and continue to do everyday. Live and do like Christ. Take my comments as wake up call. No need to reply to my comments with your personal ideological backlash, I'm a grown man who led Troops, and served in 10 different countries and Combat Veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, eldest of 5 brothers. My words are a warning plea to look at the log in our eye and cause most needed change in Christ's Church, our country and world which are in a serious decline as I speak.

    I think it's also important to note the people that "deconvert" or leave after being converted.
    More and more people in the US are claiming to not be religious and more claim to be religious but only attend church a few times a year.
    Also turns out that poor countries tend to be more religious and that there's a correlation with standards of living and amount of religious people in a country. As people get richer, the country tends to get less religious.

  • @timflo3
    @timflo3 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @timflo3 In Salvation History; St. Paul's epistles are very clear in this matter.He states that they were to adhere not only what they "read" but what they heard. He also exclaims to do as he "does". As an example, vitamins are profitable, even necessary, for good health but not sufficient. If someone ate only vitamins, he would starve to death. Likewise, Sacred Scripture is very important in learning about the Christian faith, but it does not exclude Sacred Tradition or a teaching Church.

    @MrLoudmouthspeaker Again you got it off the truth marker here. Half truths bundled up together. Scriptures came from God; true; How did his word get to written form? Inspiration from the Holy Spirit through the mind and hearts of men. You left that out. Our Faith is unwaveringly in the hands of those given the Grace to lead. Jesus is our head. We are his Body. Every denomination outside of Catholicism has leadership from men. I pray again for you my friend and debater for you to see the truth.

    i would agree, except for saying nobody is buying stuff we produce. We had a discussion on this in the last meeting for the campus economics club. For example, plastic utensils in one color are from the US and another from China. Plus, there are some countries we are net exporters to. Also, problems don't stem from a trade deficit;the trade deficit itself stems from other problems. It shows ppl are giving us stuff, which is a nice deal for us,lol,but it shows we don't produce enough.

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, what I'm saying is when the government has assets, it's pretty meaningless because the government can pay whatever it wants for said assets. So it's not the most important thing for the money to be under government control as long as it's backed by assets. What's really important is a free-market money because it will arise from the most marketable commodity or commodities (gold and silver, or even copper for smaller transactions) that is voluntarily traded and has relative scarcity.

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    that simply begs the question. Steal wealth from who? They steal from the wealth-producing private sector. And they are giving out money in the form of lobbying only because they have money to do so in the first place, which means at some point they had to have produced something. The rest of what you said is pretty much correct.

  • @stealthswimmer

    That's true, but that's due to government policy that makes it harder for people to start new businesses and even just to keep existing businesses. These policies make it harder to produce. It's not the result of culture.

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    ah ok. agreed with most of what you said.
    *However, the reason it's more profitable to send production away is not because nobody is buying our stuff .The reason they're not buying our stuff is cus it costs more to make here and thus is not as profitable, so it's kinda like what you said but backwards.

    "ONLY BEGOTTEN SON" by Virgilio T.J. Suerte Felipe
    "Only Begotten Son" is one of the ancient titles of Christ. The Church in the 4th century was threatened by the Arian heresy that denied Christ's divinity. The Church fathers of that period especially Saint Athanasius stressed that the Bible speaks of a "begetting" of the Son, not a creation. In his famous book, Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis says, "To beget is to become the father of: to create is to make"(Lewis, 1987, 242). What's the difference? C.S. Lewis explains: When you beget, you beget something of the same kind as yourself. A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers and a bird begets eggs which turn into little birds. But when you make, you make something of a different kind from yourself. A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam, a man makes a wireless set....(ibid).
    "Begotten" is a biological metaphor to help us understand the unique filial relationship between God the Father and God the Son. "Only Begotten Son" means that Jesus Christ shares the genus of God the Father, that Jesus Christ is the true genetic Son, having the same divine nature or essence of the Father. Thus, the Nicene Creed states, "God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made".
    In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    Reverend William Casey is a bona fide Christian who has the right idea, but there is more to it than what he says! Christian broadcasting these days is full of signs and wonders preaching, prosperity preaching, and other such hogwash! Christians
    must never lose sight of the fact that wholehearted repentance and conversion (Gospel Of Luke, 7: 36-50, 18: 9-14 & 23: 39-43)
    is what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about!

    "losing gold" doesn't matter because goods are exchanged. Having less gold would mean having to produce more to export to get more gold, otherwise you can no longer make purchases.
    2) Rent is not paying for something that belongs to you. It's paying for something that belongs to someone else. Thus, taxation is not rent. Taxation is theft. It's collecting revenue from someone for something THEY own, and doing so with the threat of violence.

    But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it... [2 Tim. 3:14
    Here St. Paul suggests Tradition. Notice that Paul did not write, "knowing from which Scripture passage you learned it" but instead he writes, "knowing from whom you learned it." He is implying with the "whom" himself and the other Apostles. Earlier in the same letter, St. Paul actually defines and commands Apostolic Tradition -

    Money isn't wealth. The goods and services available are what constitute wealth. Money is simply a medium of exchange. Granted, fiat currency produced by central banks is some of the worst money around and it causes the business cycle when the central bank increases the money supply through the credit market....but the money itself isn't the wealth that we produce.

    Peace to all and please allow me to hug all your Holy Angels through the doubting St. Thomas, who did not believe that Jesus Christ has risen from the dead until Jesus showed His wounds and and let him touched it. Yes, we are not alone, God has given us Guardian Angels and Saints to be hugged through the eyes of our faith, for our protection. They are always beside us waiting to be hugged, waiting to be called for their help; for we are all Temples of God Who is dwelling in the deepest center of our soul. St. Cecilia is one of those saints gifted by God to see her angels with her physical eyes. Please pray for me that I may not forget to hug my angels. Sometimes or most of the time, I forget especially after taking care of my 93 yr. old mom..then, I just say to my mom..."You know what, mom? yes, what is it?" 'Please forgive me for I forget to hug you and your holy angels....then, I will hug her at least 2x to make up for my unfaithfulness, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault in what I have done and in what I have failed to do."...bye to all, love you all and enjoy the power of your prayers with your angels and saints beside and around you

    @MrLoudmouthspeaker The pontiff is also part of the Body of Christ. Faith is a gift from God therefore to have it we must say Yes to it. Free will is given freely by God but not forced by Him. Catholics place their leadership in the Holy Spirit who guards the Catholic Church.Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom to Peter (a man) remember? that is scriptural. He was the the first Bishop of Rome which later became known as Pope. Keep in mind also that the term purgatory does not appear in Scripture.

  • @timflo3
    @timflo3 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @timflo3 The word Trinity doesn't appear there either but we know that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the Holy Trinity. There are many Scipture texts that back up our beliefs concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary. From Old testament (Genesis through to New Testament; Revelation). It's all there my friend. I might add as well your theory of Everything we need is solely based on the Bible. No where does is state Bible alone. Sola Scriptura is not biblical. Tradition plays a huge role.

    yeah i know, i don't like the word "religious" either, lol.
    As for changes in lifestyles, yes i think people's lifestyles are often affected by what they're taught at institutions. However, it's also the case that what they learn outside the institutions can also affect their lifestyles and beliefs.
    All I'm saying is that for some reason, the richer a society gets, the less and less they tend to have a faith in God. Well, it turns out the US is one such society.

    Actually, the US is pretty wealthy despite our problems. And us sending our money away isn't a problem in terms of losing value because all we do is create money and send it away to be accepted as if it were real value. In other words, we basically get subsidized by other countries. Thus, the danger isn't losing our money, but people starting to refuse to accept our money.

    @timflo3 ...and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the Sacred Writings (a.k.a. Scripture) which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. [2 Tim. 3:15, RSV]

    You mean like the Scripture that says "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit"? Or the one that says "I tell you no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit"? Or what about the Ethiopian eunuch whom Philip baptized in water? Did you mean those Scriptures?

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, we're wealthy. Some of it's based on being subsidized and some is phony...but yes we're still wealthy. It's not something that you can argue very well against. By all measures, the US is still a pretty wealthy nation.
    And we do have assets backing the currency..it's just that they're not that great, lol. However, you don't really need assets to back money. What you need is voluntary money and a price system that isnt interfered with so that prices fluctuate to reflect the value of the money

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not a Catholic, but i'll just say that i highly doubt the reason for fewer converts is a watered down message. Most non-religious folks i see that are dissatisfied with religion are dissatisfied because they see it as too extreme. Being more hardcore will appeal to the actual church members more than appealing to people in a way that converts non-religious people.

  • @stealthswimmer
    @stealthswimmer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    All you've done is correlate data, but correlation shouldn't be confused with causation. The culture of the people in the particular area probably also has something to do with it. Now, it may be that you are correct, but the data doesn't necessarily show that. I know my knowledge is not statistical and only anecdotal when I say that the more extreme groups push more people away (again, in my experience only), but there have also been polls done showing less people calling themselves "religious"

    And as for the US being faithful, we haven't ever been united under one faith.
    But what point are you trying to make?

    How do you know Christ if you don't know the basis of what Christ taught?
    Scripture? Remember that Scripture was given to you BY the Catholic Church. Men inspired by the Holy Spirit FROM the Church wrote those Scriptures that you freely quote from. They continued the tradition and teaching of Jesus Christ, with whom they walked. It is not merely religion. It is identifying yourself IN Christ.

      The Catholic Church didn’t give us scripture🤦🏾‍♂️ everyone who were inspired by God wrote the Bible were Hebrew people. The Bible was already completed before the Roman Catholic Church got their hands on it

    I'll see about checkin out Hilaire Belloc and G.K. Chesterton sometime.
    Anyways, i do believe in Capitalism, not because of a faith in it but because of evidence of it. As for the wealth we have, again, we have more wealth than before not less, so i don't see what you're trying to say about old empires. And our productivity exploded in the lat 1800s when our economy was at its freest (though we still had problems from the things that weren't free).

    And bring back the youthfulness of preaching?
    Good luck trying that on our newly communed SSPX brothers.
    even ppl today don't think that clapping is appropriate at mass!
    If it was that easy to revitalize preaching, it would have changed long ago. Ultimately preaching works in two ways: the preacher and the preached. No matter how good the sower is, if the ground is hard, the seed will not grow.

    "Born Again" as if your salvation came from your decision to be saved or God's decision to save you through the Lord Jesus Christ? Roman Catholics are "saved" at sacramental Baptism, glory be to God.

    Himself to man. Salvation is "given from above" not obtaind by rituals. I was Catholic the better part of my youth. I was baptized as an infant went through conformation, and understood NOTHING of God and HIS word. The power of God in our day and age is in his Spirit and His written word. Keep on reading and praying for him to give ears to hear.

    I'm sorry to say this, but he is too abstract.
    What exactly does he meant by a new kind of preaching.
    He was talking about our protestant brothers coming over to us.
    yes, that is good and true, but I have been to a lot of Presbyterian services, and in all of them ONE HOUR of homily is considered a very SHORT homily. Good luck trying that on ANY Catholic church.

    In certain countries, like Kenya - the Mass takes 2 hours because people start dancing. I was in Brazil a month ago and there was clapping there. There is a revitalization in the Church for sure. 3.7 million Catholic youth on Copacabana beach at World Youth Day will tell you that.
    However, we must also understand the purpose of the Mass. It is being wholly and wonderfully immersed in the presence and word of Christ. Therefore we must remember reverence and not be distracted, if at all we are.
