Its a sad fact, but so many priests give very light an uninspiring homilies all over the world and people are just passing through Mass and taking noting from it. God Bless the Fathers of Mercy who preach such important homilies. They tell us what we should hear and not what the faithful want to hear. We need to hear the truth from priests even if its hard to take. The world is in serious need of truth. Gods Truth.
"just passing through Mass and taking nothing from it". I encourage you to re-evaluate your trend of thinking and also to pick up the Catechism and read it. Many of the holiest and greatest of our Lord's Saints, Padre Pio for example, seldom gave a sermon. It is not a requirement to have a valid full Mass. The priest is not an entertainer or presider, nor is the Mass to be focused, in any way, on the presence of the priest. He is a struggling sinner, striving for perfection, just as all of us who portend to be Catholic are. We are present at the foot of the Cross at Calvary at each and every Mass celebrated. The Mass is the greatest, most profound event that occurs in the universe, or will ever occur, aside from the initial crucifixion of Our Lord. Daily reading of the Bible and the lives of the Saints are highly valuable for continuing nourishment and "education" as our journey continues and may end at any time. If the weekly sermons come up short, in your measure, I encourage you to establish a daily regimen of spiritual reading and even self Bible study. God love you.
@@captainquint25 I have to say, I agree totally with you. St. Alphonsus used to say that we have to have a regular, or even everyday spiritual reading, because we can't always hear sermons for our souls or even spiritual guidance in a regular basis. Moreover, the Mass is indeed not an entertainment, it's the renewal of Christ's sacrifice on Calvary. However, I have to agree with Ronan here as well, he's in fact sort of true in the sense that modern priests give sermons that doesn't bring any fruit to the faithful because it is either the aiming towards the spiritual life of the soul is too blur or weak, or not even aimed at all. I'm not saying every priests are like that, but sadly these kind of priests exists.
