Motion is a matter of shutter speed. All camera allow you to change it, and the limitations you might have is the sensor size might be too small, iso might be too high, so you can’t set the shutter speed as slow as you want in low light.
I've had my Insta360 Link for a few months and I now film 90% of my (studio) YT footage with this great little camera, including locked-off, B-Roll and hand held whilst "tethered" to the PC via a longer USB C cable. A little pricey but worth it for me.
This was a surprisingly incredibly fun video. The fact that the webcam could adequately stand in for your professional camera setup, in terms of how this video looks on my 24 inch display in full screen, is really impressive.
Thank you for the video Jay! The main issue with this camera is the lack of updates it gets and the fact you can't use is at 4K30 in OBS without it lagging like crazy. Once they can fix that, it would be amazing. But Apart from that I've been using it in 1080p60 since launch and honestly it's a game changer not having to deal with any cables. If you want to check sample footage all my videos since October are shot with it.
Got one a few months ago and I'm really pleased with the image quality and the autofocus is great! I don't use the tracking much because it doesn't do the proper composition I want (it centers the face in the frame instead of face on the top third), but the gimbal control is nice and works well! (Just watched more and glad you agreed at 16:57 so hopefully they can push out a new feature for that!)
FYI I watched a full review of this camera on another channel where they demonstrated the white board markers and they work seamlessless and I'm not sure yet whether you're going to demonstrate the desktop view option where it shoots straight down to your keyboard but that is also a sick feature with build in auto perspective adjustment to make it look as if the camera is actually directly above where you're shooting even though it's back by quite a few inches. I will be buying one of these very soon and using it as my first main camera until I get better established
Been using this camera for a year almost now, and I absolutely love it. Sponsored or not, when you see someone say this camera is the real deal, they mean it.

As someone who has done camera work for dirt oval tracks, this would be a very nice thing to have for sure. Could set it to actually track cars (if that's possible of course), or set up ones where you click to turn them between turns 1 and 2, and turns 3 and 4. Set them up with jump cuts between racing cars and each other so the movement of the camera doesn't look unnatural on a stream. Definitely a very cool little device
I'd seen one designed for recording sporting events so parents can record their children's games... I'm guessing what you're looking for is possible, but it might be a bit more niche.
@@whateverhappens4917 Would definitely be. But I'm sure you could make it work. I usually run the computer systems at the tracks I work at :p Did the camera work for 1 track for 1 year and got pretty decent at running a camera. But wow can I see ways something like this could make the job easier :p Definitely a difference in kids running on a field/court and cars traveling well over 100mph tho lmao
I have 6 of these through out my studio and they are just amazing! Also used 3 for a cooking live stream that turned out amazing! While the software doesn't seem to have a proper cert when installing, the addition of hot keys means that you can control just about any aspect of the camera and gimbal with your stream deck!! Highly recommend!
Pretty impressive. I normally don't go for full sponsored videos, but you've definitely earned my trust, and the demonstration of the tracking, zoom, etc is really compelling. I honestly don't even need this .. but I want it lol.
I bought this webcam a while back and it is amazing! The clear 4k clarity and the AI tracking is sick. Also love its privacy feature when unused too! Was a major upgrade from my Logitech Pro Stream
@@lentilgod58 @lentilgod58 Yes because whenever it's off and not in use, the camera faces downwards towards the base hence "privacy". I'll always know when it's on. And when it is on, it's what I want it to show. I use it for streaming so I have no reason to be scared of it seeing my face when I want it to. And just because it's a Chinese company doesn't mean shit. You use Facebook, TH-cam, Twitter, TikTok and even Google. They already have everything on you
We’re using these for remote interviews with analysts and the quality is great. The only next step up is a dslr/mirrorless setup, which is hugely more complicated to set up and use for non-tech users.
I don't normally buy right off of watching one review - but damn Jay, you just made this easy. I have two positions in my office that I rotate between for shots of my tutorial/training videos and constantly having to reposition my c920 is a pain in the butt. Great review/overview. Insta buy for me and my hella dated c920 (though it still works great - quality just ain't cutting it anymore)
I remember seeing Dave2D's video on this and he went bananas over it. The tracking features is what sold it. I don't have a need for something like this but it has a lot of very useful features for anyone that streams.
I mean a bigger sensor and better glass will help every camera. In general. Idk but I think it needs alot of light. Difficult to say because you are in a lit studio but the Intel arc light should have more bloom. Not hating on the Webcam though because if well lit like your video, the images are great as we see.
I have it for ~3 months now and even when I dim my light or change the color or temperature it does a very good job with just a little noise (depending on how dark I dim it). Even when I turn off my light it can see me with some details just from the light of the monitor.
Good point but nah it doesn't need a whole lotta light. I purchased this camera about a week ago and it's been performing incredible in low light. Compared to other cams out there it's the best at filtering out the noise from darker environments. I've started to use this cam for my channel personally.
@@fucazombie that's actually great to hear. It's difficult to get a decent image out a small sensor. They really did good then. Then again it's probably a Sony sensor, and they are good. The reason for the gimbal is probably because they needed all the pixels for the ai to work with. So they gave it a gimbal I think.
@@CrazyGamerTV maby I missed it in the video but do you happen to know if it has correction colors? aka green / magenta for correcting color shifts. It should be with the the white balance settings
I don't stream or have any use for a web cam, but I want one of these now. That tracking zoom at about 15:32 as Jay scoots forward in his chair was just perfect.
There was something like this waaay back when 640x480 was considered a high resolution for webcams. Probably around 2004-2010 somewhere ? It did all these things but more loudly =p It also came with a 'security' feature where it would track people moving through the room. There was a mod kit to add a nerf gun to it and I'm fairly certain those USB missile launchers have their roots in that old thing. I still have it but there's no brand name on it at all, it's just purple and grey plastic. (or its covered under dust, i didn't feel like cleaning it.)
Really wanted one but after reading their privacy policy I'm torn. Have you looked in to that? It seems they force you to agree to let them track your web activity on whatever computer you're using their software on?
Honestly this camera is pretty incredible. I think it fits a niche in the market that hasn’t really had many options. It is a top of the line high quality webcam that is expensive, but not DSLR/Mirrorless Camera expensive. This thing is awesome
This seems really cool as the current webcam market has been stagnant and overpriced for years now. It really suprised me to see it came from Berlin, did not expect to see a local brand in one of your videos. I mean even I didnt know of that brand. We desperately need some competition in the market, heck my 8 year old Logitech 1080p 30 FPS webcam which I bought for 70 or 80 buck is now sold for 110+€. This is insane
11:30 One correction....the depth of field doesn't change on this camera because the aperture doesn't change. It only adjusts exposure using ISO and shutter speed like most cell phones. The shutter speed is just how long the shutter is open and doesn't impact DOF.
I'm super impressed with this... the quality is pretty good. I can see a lot of use for this even outside live streaming. Looked like you could even do a pretty convincing dolly zoom with this thing. I'm tempted to pick one of these up.
oh yeah im getting one set up for a mobile weather stream so its a lot easier to have inside car view, front, left and right views very quickly without having to manually move a camera around. very useful
You can do it manually. Hold out your hand to turn auto tracking off or on. Used your hand to make an L shape while moving your hand up and down to zoom in and out. It's pretty fun and I play with it sometimes. Unless I misinterpreted it and you mean something else?
I'm more or less sold, just need to save up some dough. I like how it does HDR, it would be even better if it could combine it with 4k. I'm still waiting for the JTC channel to make the HDR jump. Oh, and the butterfly knife drop at 19:28 made me wince a bit.
1. Amazing that they finally integrated all these functionalities in a "webcam" for a 300, but I wonder how much it'll cost in the EU. [edit: I found German site, 405 EUR, now for sale for 382.] 2. I'll always wonder why these AI functions weren't implemented in every communication device and application when C19 started. We had the tech, the various tools and plugins existed pre covid. Every Zoom/Skype call would be so much better. This would be a killer "webcam" when C19 lockdowns were in place. 3. In most shots, it looks like it's using an automatic head/face "beauty" filters. In some, Jay looks like he has a ton of makeup on his face. So this leaves us with 3 options: He has a ton of makeup, the cam is doing "beauty" thing, or both.
Most people on camera usually have some make up on just to make it easier on the editors or don't have to put filters on to hide their pores or whatever which makes the whole shot looks bad sometimes and i think it can even help with the lighting a bit. Not sure if jay has some on here but it's possible.
@@wiganangler If you even looked at the upload, it is competing with a camera where the body alone cost 4 digits, and yet you complain, Why don't you just hang on to a Trust or Logitech £9-10 webcam ?
@@wiganangler You probably also think that the prices of a proper USB DAC and/or audio mixer is ridiculous then (even entry level ones start at like $150). You know what I think of those expensive DAC and/or audio mixers? For my own purposes (which don't include streaming) they ARE in fact ridiculous overkill pieces of kit. But it's like not giving someone with a masters in theoretical physics a job at McDonalds. They don't belong there. Just like the highly educated person, these pieces of gear are not aimed at the lowest common denominator. They're aimed at people who are streaming all the day AS THEIR MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME (or as a hobby they heavily invest in). For those people, the price is absolutely reasonable, if not downright affordable. At least in the US, this is doubly true, because these people can often write off the expense on their taxes, because it's a "business expense". Let's give you another example if you're having trouble understanding that one, and I'll use my IRL job for it. I'm an auto mechanic for a living, and if I see a nice set of metric combination wrenches that costs $400, I won't bat an eye at that price, it's perfectly reasonable when I have a whole auto shop bringing in money to pay for that. I could pay for that with less than a week's profits. Now yes, you can get nearly the same result with a $100 tool kit from Home Depot or Lowe's, so to someone that's not an auto mechanic the prices probably seem insane, I mean $400 for "just a set of wrenches"? I get that. But when you use the same tools every day to make the money that keeps food on your table, and you can write it off as a business expense, and you don't even have to spend a whole week's earnings to buy it, suddenly that $400 wrench set starts looking a lot more attractive. Especially when your hands aren't hurting at the end of the day because that expensive wrench set is designed with a lot of attention paid to details that cause repetitive strain injuries and the wrenches in that cheap tool kit aren't. And because mechanics sometimes need to "just get it done, don't care how", these expensive wrenches are actually stronger than the stuff you can get from a hardware store. How much stronger? You can usually put like 5x the force into one of those expensive wrenches compared to the cheap ones. This is despite the cheap wrenches being heavier and thicker, because the expensive wrenches use better steel with a better and more finely controlled heat treatment process used. Because they pay more attention to detail like that, the wrenches cost more. So yes, if you're a mechanic that never has an empty repair bay in your shop, the prices that the Snap-On tool truck is charging are worth it, if you can buy them outright and not get into their (quite frankly a little bit predatory) payment plans and credit options. Plus, Snap-On famously has that lifetime warranty on their tools, if you manage to break one they'll replace it, almost always with no questions asked (unless they have been destroyed by an act of god, such as the building burning down or something like that). Now to bring it back around a bit. If you're not an auto mechanic, these prices not only SEEM insane, they ARE insane. But that's because someone who isn't a homeowner doesn't NEED all this quality. No, for a homeowner who just wants to change their own oil or fix their own brakes or something like that, stick with the $100 tool kit. The cheap tool kit is "good enough" for your purposes and you're not using them for long enough that you'll appreciate where the extra money went into the more expensive tools. Oh and by the way, even I as an auto mechanic have a place for those $100 tool kits. They're great to take to the junkyard with you, because if you lose a tool somewhere, it's not a big deal to replace it. They're also great tools to turn into "ford wrenches" aka that wrench you used a torch to bend so that you can use it to reach that ONE bolt or nut that is in a bad spot that no other tool can reach. And now to bring that segue back into what we're talking about, things like the camera in this video, and the $150 USB DAC or audio mixer, they have their place, but it's not in every person's computer setup. Nope. These are aimed at professionals or high-grade hobbyists. And by those two phrases I mean "people who make money doing things with that equipment" or "people who would appreciate the quality of the equipment". I guess it also goes around to the other way of saying all this: "If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it".
The ultimate Webcam is still and probably/definitely will always be a DSLR.... lowlight performance.... control.... resolution.... compatibility.... price.... price... a canon 700D for example with a nice fast wide angle lens you can get for $250 and it'll last for the next 10 years
@@defectivedegenerate4046 the video makes it look considerably worse than in real life, the youtube compression does a number on it. They're absolutely amazing in person.

It's good to mention that the webcam sends some type of info to a Chinese IP every day. You could block it yourself relatively easy but thought it's worth mentioning. Google the subject you'll find more details about the subject
Telling us "look for it yourself" doesn't help the validity of your claims. If that is something you want to inform us on, you need to provide sources.
I bought this just for its macro focus and manual gimbal. I build small models on stream and the ability to zoom and have that autofocus is just perfect.
I wonder if they could implement something to mask the whips when it turns, maybe try to mimic saccadic masking. Also, can you bind the different location presets to a Streamdeck button?
I have this camera. Expensive, but soo dam worth it. I use it to post video for work and creating content, but what surprised me the most is the audio quality being amazing compared to other web cams. One note is that the camera gets very hot under prolonged use. I put it on a boom arm from Elgato to make it easy to move around for the whiteboard, green screen, and my desk. The only item I wish from them to change is the ability to mount upside down.
The geometric distortion when the camera looks down like you showed is called "Keystoning" -- projectors have a keystone adjustment for that reason. Also, I think I'm sold on this camera.
Thank you so much for this video,Quick question 🙋🏽♂️ can you please post the link for the longer usb C cable you got for the Insta 360? Thank you so much 🙏🏼
I like it! How does it handle sudden changes in brightness, e.g., when I look something up for a client and go from a dark screen to a light screen? Even in a well-lit space, my current Logitech StreamCam puts all that extra brightness right on my pasty, ruddy face.
Just ordered one. I love the versatility of this camera, being that it has the gimbal and can be used in multiple situations. Love the feature set and software, and the quality is outstanding for the price! Thanks for the video!
Does the gimbal positioning and other features have a WebSocket enabled API? With a WebSocket API, that would enable remote control capabilities similar to the OBS WebSocket plugin but for the camera itself. Hybrid conference calls would allow the camera to sit in the middle and be rotated remotely by any participant OR even be controlled automatically by custom-built software that detects the direction of the speaker and rotates to face the speaker. The default software looks "okay" but it would be vastly superior to anything else on the market if the software/hardware has WebSocket API support.
I bought an Insta360 X3 because the product page said it would support a *webcam mode. What I missed was the *, which was "in a future firmware update". It's still a great replacement to my old GoPro for a motorcycle "dashcam", but it's been 3 months without that promised firmware update.
The wideshot tracking + presets would be great for cooking streamers, who have to multi-cam to get a wide shot (but then move around constantly) AND overheads of stoves or prep areas, this could easily do both with less tech. Its overkill for any streaming I do, but Im gonna pitch one to my IT dept for the main conference room, just for the quick whiteboard mode, so remote people can actually see it for once, without needing to fiddle with zoom and focus AND remembering to put it back for the next people. Hope the software doesnt stagnate, thats what kills any of the non-stupid webcams.
A few months ago, as it became more and more apparent that I was about to lose my job, I wanted to up all my content creation devices while I was still employed and this was one of the devices I bought. I have not regretted it for one second. The quality is way beyond what I had any right to expect, and I even use it for head insert shots when I do software tutorials or picture in picture. I previously had the El Gato Facecam, which is no slouch either, but this is on another level. It's expensive, for sure, and worth EVERY dollar of its price tag.
Where has this BEEN all my life! I've been looking at PTZ cameras over the past couple of months explicitly for streaming, but to get one that's any good costs £££... until you look at this! Cheers, Jay!
We have one and have been using it for about 4 months, The quality is amazing and the AI tracking is on point, Love it. Even compared to all the pro video gear we have this little thing is pretty darn amazing!
JAY! You play guitar! What would be your high-mid-low range music studio computer? Music Tech is an unturned stone for your channel, but it is in high demand. Could, would you review some audio equipment? audio interfaces, talk about latency round trip setups, driver issue fixes etc.?
i bought one of these about 2 months ago, it is a awsome webcam, you can even connect it to a android phone and use it mobile with pretty much any camera app out there
With the quality demonstrated and that price point, this seems like a hell of a deal, as long as they keep updating the software to pack some more features into it, man, this thing will be hard to beat.
I wonder if you can use a 3-foot pedal controller to change the camera zoom options? Using hand signals for this would be a bit weird during the live stream.
Regarding the software. Do the presets and the ability to turn tracking on/off have hotkeys? I do not want to use gestures and would like to use hotkeys along with my Touch Portal or Streamdeck. Thank you.
I'm a teacher and did a video on my setup. I really need insta360 to add an option for being able to mount the camera upside down, as mine is hanging from the ceiling.
This was cool, thank you Jay! I could easily see cooking streamers, outdoor (gardening, small construction), freeing up your hands to do the work you want to showcase. Those hand gestures are really nice touch. The guitar was a nice touch :) Just before watching I got a newsflash that Jeff Beck passed away (1/11/23). Very lucky I was born when I was to grow up with his music. RIP Mr. Beck :(
Thanks for the recommendation, Jay. This camera seems highly recommended on all fronts. I've been trying to get my hands on an ElGato Facecam Pro but they haven't been available. I'm going with this now. Perfect timing!
I have seen this Webcam reviewed a few times now. And I have to say, Jay and Phil have given the best showing of it. Do I need it?? No. But do I want it?? Heck yes!
Honestly, this is pretty awesome. And the price doesn't even look that bad either. It's comparable to a GoPro but has a lot of features that GoPro doesn't have. I would love to see something like this to be able to go on a Semi. I'm going to look around on their store and see if I can get something like that.
Backwards on the Depth of Field/Aperture comment. Depth of field becomes more shallow when you open the aperture to let more light in, DOF increases when you stop down (similar to squinting your eyes).
This is pretty cool. Definitely going to have to get one or two myself. I wonder if you could write some code so that they'll snap on to whoever is talking automatically. Like when there's mic input.
Awesome impromptu guitar session! Never watched any live streams, so that was a cool surprise and not like any of the demos I've seen for the Insta360 Link
I am a teacher (and It consultant) and I like this camera, but my biggest downside is they do not support Xubuntu, or any Linux system. So, this is a downside and I can't get it. So, if no Linux support, No 360 camera for me.
Do you know what the exact length of the included cable is? Cable length is a must for my setup, and was wondering if it was longer than the cable that comes with my current Logitech webcam.
Thanks for keeping it clean Jay! Great for pernubb, snik-snok, rumbler, rinder, lonely dans and minder. Especially if it makes close-ups of the fotts. Maybe also almost the only ones that can afford it :D
All the webcams are missing Windows Hello login which is a feature I've become so accustomed to sitting down and system unlocks. I have been wanting to change out my Logitech Brio 4k, it's an ok camera, but these new webcams are better quality, but how much would it cost to offer a WinHello version for a few bucks more.
OBSBOT has similar features if anyone is looking for an alternative. I currently have an OBSBOT Tiny, but I have also looked into the Insta360 and my next purchase is going to be one of those.
Two questions I have not found answers for anywhere: can you assign hot keys to the preset positions you made? So it can be triggered by a stream deck. Can you use more then one on the same computer and control them independently? Would love to know. Thank you
Pretty impressive with the quick focus shift and the tracking feature. Wonder if it can be linked in directly to a smartphone for out in the field use?
This would be an AWESOME tool for when I do guitar build videos or other stuff like drone building or solder work. Just not a priority for me at a cost just over half of my monthly income. So Ill file that under the "dare to dream" category with the mountain of other stuff already there.
@@Atticus_Moore Already do that just to be able to make one guitar a year. No drinkin, no going out, not even a pizza or movie. If I live anymore below my means for a camera..... Does this support controlling the PTZ from OBS and something like StreamDeck? Either with the PTZ control plugin, MIDI, or the Visca or Pelco protocols?

Hi! please, help me: Can I connect several Insta360 Link to one only PC, to be handle by VMIX on a livestream?
Pretty impressive. I normally don't go for full sponsored videos, but you've definitely earned my trust, and the demonstration of the tracking, zoom, etc is really compelling. I honestly don't even need this .. but I want it lol.

Insta buy for me and my hella dated c920 (though it still works great - quality just ain't cutting it anymore)
factoring in the amount of multi camera setup of equivalent use i think it's already breakeven at 3 position imo

It did all these things but more loudly =p
It also came with a 'security' feature where it would track people moving through the room.
Perfect for those who stream on wobbly desks too! the gimbal handled nicely when Jay rotated the laptop screen
This is insane
its a chinese company, they just have a branch in berlin. Theyre not local.
I'm tempted to pick one of these up.
oh yeah im getting one set up for a mobile weather stream so its a lot easier to have inside car view, front, left and right views very quickly without having to manually move a camera around. very useful
I just got one of these... My co-workers (on zoom calls) keep saying how much better the quality is. I'm pretty happy with it.
Looks great, but it will need a full integration into StreamDeck so you can macro commands to buttons to track and zoom etc.
There are definitely work arounds to this...
You can do it manually. Hold out your hand to turn auto tracking off or on. Used your hand to make an L shape while moving your hand up and down to zoom in and out. It's pretty fun and I play with it sometimes. Unless I misinterpreted it and you mean something else?
you can integrate it (and other webcams) using Camooz software that has streamdeck plugin
[edit: I found German site, 405 EUR, now for sale for 382.]
It costs £303 in the UK if that helps, which is ridiculous for a webcam
Most people on camera usually have some make up on just to make it easier on the editors or don't have to put filters on to hide their pores or whatever which makes the whole shot looks bad sometimes and i think it can even help with the lighting a bit.
Not sure if jay has some on here but it's possible.
349€ in Germany.

@@wiganangler
You probably also think that the prices of a proper USB DAC and/or audio mixer is ridiculous then (even entry level ones start at like $150).
You could be zoomed out while you are playing guitar and have a preset zoom to your hands so it becomes easy to show finger positions.
The ultimate Webcam is still and probably/definitely will always be a DSLR.... lowlight performance.... control.... resolution.... compatibility.... price.... price... a canon 700D for example with a nice fast wide angle lens you can get for $250 and it'll last for the next 10 years
issue is size.

I can see indie film developers use this. The quick snap, zoom and focus would be super useful. Almost feels instant
F 1.8 stop really intrigued me. I love my Nikon 1.8 lense especially for clarity in low light situations.
That's pretty impressive. Obviously its not going to give you DSLR/Mirrorless quality but for around $300 its pretty damn good.
I've been looking at this Webcam for a while. Might be a future purchase... it's perfect for what my son and I need it to do. Thanks for the info Jay.
The geometric distortion when the camera looks down like you showed is called "Keystoning" -- projectors have a keystone adjustment for that reason. Also, I think I'm sold on this camera.

That is a great overview/review, most practical I've seen so far. Makes me even more interested in this camera for multiple use cases.

I thought the Phil preset was going to be a troll on him being short and move the camera down to Jay's stomach. 😂
