I almost fell for this like 5 years back. I was a relatively small kid and the scammer legitimately felt bad for me, and backed out of the scam. He pretended to see tons of viruses, then said he couldn't help me and hung up. Nice.

My younger brother fell for it once as well - he was duped by the fact that they seemed to know his name (not realising it's easy to find in a phonebook). Luckily he didn't give out any bank details probably because he was too young at the time to have any lol.

@@SixCyxSix Router has public IP and can be changed but devices have private ip(reserved ip) which is not changeable.
As an Indian I am ashamed that such shady companies run and flourish here. They recently arrested a number of such scammers in Pune but clearly there is much more to be done

Step 1: talk really quietly and ask him to turn his volume up so he can hear you better
Step 2: (optional): if you have a mic, turn the sensitivity/volume WAY UP

I caught my sister dealing with these guys. She had paid them $250 and the first guy had told her they are Microsoft. The guy she was talking to when I caught her said they were not, but they were working with Best Buy. I managed to get her money back.
