Terrific insight Pete! Great detail as usual. At least that wouldn't be too hard to do, plus every time you'd get quicker. Essendon Motorcycle and Mowers giving you access was fantastic for the Viewers. 👍😁
Thanks MAAAAAATE, Yeah EMAM have been so helpful allowing me to do what I do. And Yes, after a couple of goes it will be a very easy process. Regards FPPete.
No you don't need to drain the tank. However the less the fuel in the tank the easier it is the handle and remove. You could siphon fuel out first if you wish. Regards FPPete.
No harder to disconnect the fuel lines than my 2019 Hima. All I do on my bike is place a block of wood under the rear of the tank. Pick up my 450 in a couple of weeks (TAS). Good clip.
Very surprised that servicing the air filter needs so many components to be removed on a bike like this. Compare the brilliant design of the AJP Pr7/310/510 which allow a filter swap in seconds by mounting the filter high behind the steering head with a fast removable cover which needs no screws and you can see how it should be done. Air filters sometimes need to be serviced daily in really adverse dusty conditions.
Hi James, Totally agree with you. Life is so much better with easy access to the Air filter, particularly when riding in dusty conditions. Thanks for your comment, Regards FPPete.
I believe they wanted to keep its seat hight low. while also trying to keep its ground clearance and water wading capacity high. I do Agree thoo it seems a lot of hassle. Maybe in next few version they will change it.
Totally agree. Having owned various enduro bikes and still think the DRZ400 has one of the best quick open easy access air filter cover and filter. The ease of regular servicing of the air filter and changing of oil and oil filter should also be a big consideration when designing any bike. I realise that this helps with the overall design of the bike but would stop me going on dusty roads too often! Great video and the Himalayan 450 sounds to be a great bike otherwise. More bike reviews should always show the ease of servicing. I always wander what the air filter access is like on adventure bikes. Thankfully on my pre ordered Cfmoto 450MT the fuel tank does not have to be taken off to service the air filter!
Thanks heaps slakk, I think access to the air filter is crucial to both purchasing the bike and maintaining it. Appreciate your comment. Regards FPPete.
I did video it but it didn't make the editing. Was difficult to see. It's near the head stem of the bike on the left hand side, you may be able to get a prefilter on it. It would be good if it could be done. the paper filter is not ideal here in Australia. Regards FPPete.
Thanks for that. Did you see the inlet? I'm wondering if a pre-filter can be used. For example in a snorkel if one existed. A pre-filter would be great for dusty desert roads where you'd not want to pull out and clean/change filters
Thanks David, yeah the inlet was near the head stem, on the left hand side, was difficult to video. A prefilter would be fantastic. May be block the inlet air at the bottom of the filter, and drilling a large hole through the top filter cover and dropping a pre-filter in that hole. I'm sure someone will have a fix real soon. Regards FPPete.
Pete, thanks for your insights. I picked up my 450 yesterday. Very nice to ride. Running in of course, so took it easy. Did well on our steep now rutted driveway (1km long). More comfortable than my DRZ, much better on road and it seems good on dirt. Will investigate air box soon. Be goodish.
Excellently filmed video on the process. Unfortunately it is a process and that makes the bike a no-go for me. Shame, I was impressed with the bike but I’m not going to half-disassemble the bike to get to the air filter every time.
Thanks pww, It is an important part of owning an off road motorcycle, and Like many modern adventure bikes nowadays, the airfilter can be a pain to get to, and like yourself a deal breaker. Will be interesting to see the CF Moto 450 setup. regards FPPete.
Yeah that's a great idea and certainly worth investigating if it's possible. We followed the manual. Hopefully someone will come up with an easier solution. Regards FPPete.
I wouldn’t personally call it easy, for an air filter(mine is just under the seat). But to do any other kind of work it’s taking off 6 fairings, so this is easier in that regard
Thanks Mark, Sorry can't help you with the connector type, but I'm sure it will be a standard fitting that is easy to buy. Your Dealer should be able to help you. Regards FPPete.
So a 2 men job requiring disconnecting 3 hoses - one of them is the fuel line, just to replace an air filter?? I'm sure they could have designed it better, considering that this is a frequent task.
I saw someone mention that making a hole in the center of that filtercover piece would help the bike "breathe" abit, & claim that the opening would still be pre-filter?..🤔🧐
Only time will tell with it's reliability, But With Royal Enfield's resent history of producing reliable bikes I don't think it will be an issue. 3 year warranty. Regards FPPete.
Great video, but my god, you have to take the entire fuel tank and connections off to change an air filter on an off road bike !!!! Ridiculous , plus you need 2 people.😳
Yeah it will be a deal breaker for a few riders. It's not ideal if your doing a lot of offroad riding. There are a few Adventure bikes on the market that are worse. Thanks for your comment. Regards FPPete.

Thanks so much for your feedback, I appreciate you watching! Kind regards FPPete.
Best video so far on TH-cam.thanks for making it .
Thanks heaps, Really appreciate your comment, means a lot. Glad you enjoyed the video. Regards FPPete.
Thanks for this! Very clear and helpful for owners.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I try to show as much detail as I can. Regards FPPete.
Great video.
Forgive my mechanical ignorance, but does the tank need to be drained before doing this?

Thanks for an interesting Video on how to service the bike. Excellent job by you and the workshop.
Thanks for your positive comment, really appreciated. It was very good of Essendon Motorcycles & mowers to allow me video the process. Regards FPPete.
Another solid detailed review Pete, thanks for taking the time to show us around. Cheers 🍻
No worries Will, Thanks mate, always appreciate your thoughts and comments. Regards FPPete.
Thanks for posting - good to see that extra lead waiting for a powered accessory, satnav etc.
Thanks Dave, glad you enjoyed the vid, and thanks heaps for your comment. Regards FPPete.
Coming through with the goods again. Thanks Pete
Thanks heaps slakk, I think access to the air filter is crucial to both purchasing the bike and maintaining it. Appreciate your comment. Regards FPPete.

@@FULLPELTAdventures Yes, CF Moto are doing some great things, they're becoming contenders.
Здравствуйте. Толщина стенки трубки рамы какая?
Hi Alex, sorry I do not know, however it looks very solid. Regards FPPete.
Is there any need to tune the ecu? Or does it automatically adjusts itself accordingly
I am not aware of any requirement to tune the ECU. Regards FPPete.
Putting a towel under the front edge of the tank protects against paint chipping when lifting the rear of the tank...
Great tip, thanks H.P. Regards FPPete.
What if you do not disconnect anything and push the tank towards the tail of the bike in order to make some space to reach the filter?would it work?
Yeah that's a great idea and certainly worth investigating if it's possible. We followed the manual. Hopefully someone will come up with an easier solution. Regards FPPete.
I wouldn’t personally call it easy, for an air filter(mine is just under the seat). But to do any other kind of work it’s taking off 6 fairings, so this is easier in that regard
Yes the Air filter access is not great, so it will be up to the buyer to decide if they are happy with it look for another bike. Regards FPPete.
Good insights, what type of connector is that at for the accessories at 9:05? Might be a good place to connect my phone charger :)
Thanks Mark, Sorry can't help you with the connector type, but I'm sure it will be a standard fitting that is easy to buy. Your Dealer should be able to help you. Regards FPPete.
Bike has a usbc socket already installed on the handlebars ideal for phone charging.
So with the air box hight up like that you should be able to tread a fair depth of water
Yes you can, the inlet is near the head stem about the height of where Royal Enfield badge is on the upper crash bars. Regards FPPete.
Is safe wading depth on a motorbike determined by the air intake or the exhaust height?
Great info
@@krisdieber9459 Thanks heaps, Glad you liked the Video. Regards FPPete.
@@krisdieber9459
Whichever is the LOWER of the two.
In this case, it would be the Exhaust outlet.
not an ideal location but not terribly hard. At least you don’t have a bunch of plastics to remove as well.
Yes it's not ideal, and a foam filter would be preferred. Regards FPPete.
That looks to be Much easier then removing the plastic side panels of my Africa Twin!
Yes it is easier than the AT, but it could be better for a dual sport bike. Regards FPPete.
So a 2 men job requiring disconnecting 3 hoses - one of them is the fuel line, just to replace an air filter??
I'm sure they could have designed it better, considering that this is a frequent task.
Yeah, I hope it sends a message to the design team. It should be an easy access thing for sure. Regards FPPete.
Good thing they moved the air filter higher on the bike.
Yeah, it is up as high as possible. Regards FPPete.
I saw someone mention that making a hole in the center of that filtercover piece would help the bike "breathe" abit, & claim that the opening would still be pre-filter?..🤔🧐
Yes there is talk of getting more power from airbox and exhaust mods. Will be interesting to see what happens. Regards FPPete.
Huge drawback for RE 450!
Yes, It is not ideal, but other than that it's a pretty good bike. Regards FPPete.
Thanks for the information mate jimmy WA
Glad you enjoyed the Video. Regards FPPete.
W Suzuki DL650 podobne rozwiązanie i nikt nie narzeka.
Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Regards FPPete.
Good video.
A bit complicated compared to the 411. 🤔
Thanks Anthony, Yeah it's not ideal, and hopefully aftermarket companies will produce a better Air Filter, for Australian conditions. Regards FPPete.
you right, but the battery is in a shity place on the 411
They’ve put it up that high so they could get a low seat height.
There is always going to be design versus budget issues. Regards FPPete.

Doing the valvecheck on this bike will be interesting with all the stuff piled on top of the motor 😬
We looked at that, It appears to be easy access once the tank is off.
@@FULLPELTAdventures ok - that's good news
@@FULLPELTAdventuresshim valves apparently so I’m not sure that will be a quick job. It would be interesting to see a video of them being checked.
Very bad placement for the air filter on a bike that is also meant to be ridden on dirt, but excellent video nonetheless.

Think it is kept so high up in order to not wet the filter in water during off roading.
Way to easier then a Multistrada or AT😂
