That, and because GoldenEye 64 doesn't follow the new guidelines imposed by MGM after its release and success back in 97. You can read about the guidelines they added after GE's success, you can read here - web.archive.org/web/20190614083347/www.mundorare.com/features/the-men-who-knew-too-much/ And for GE XBLA: www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=6578 TL;DR: Even if it was an issue with Nintendo and they shorted it out, they wouldn't get too far as MGM would not agree to remaking the game the same way it was.
I was out in public when I heard the hospital bit, and not only did I burst out laughing and have to go back to hear that again, but the store clerk heard it too and started laughing since apparently they also played GoldenEye.
My three friends and I had my friend’s house to ourselves while his parents were gone. It was storming, pouring down rain and we walked to the pizza place down the street, bought a pizza with the change we scraped together, ran back before the water soaked through the box and played goldeneye for hours. Best day ever.
As a bachelor in his 20s, the minute I learned about Goldeneye I went to the store and bought an N64, four controllers, four rumble packs and this game. Goldeneye multiplayer became the new reason to gather and drink. 10 to 15 people hanging out on a Saturday night waiting for a turn on 1/4 of 32 inch crt tv. Good times.
Not just because of this game, but I just recently bought a N64 and a bunch of old classics so that I could play some of the games from my childhood. If you haven't already, I would suggest that you get Smash, Mario Kart, and Mario Party if you're looking for other fun 4-player games to have friends over and drink.
My dad played this game a lot, even after 20+ years he would still play. He died last year tragically but Goldeneye still remains in the N64 as it was the last one he played.
My dad like you has passed away and this was the only video game he would play when we were young. He would get so mad when I would beat him. Haha . Good memories for sure
Dude, I just played 007 on my Xbox series X because they did a remaster and you can play it when you buy their game pass. Although the graphics are really bad it's still put a smile on my face knowing I got to play the game I grew up on.
I played this so much as a 90s kid, but didn't see the movie until I was an adult. The whole time during the film I was saying, "it's just like the game!"
@@danieldemayo6209 What do you mean? Do you mean Boris saying "I'm invincible!" ? That line got to the game. When you get to Boris he says "Don't mind me, I just look at the computers". If you look away he takes out a gun that he drops, then he says "Oops", and if you look away again, he runs away saying his line. I'm playing the game again nowadays and also saw again the movie last week. I believe Boris says his line twice in the movie.
When i was in college in the late 90's, i was a stage manager for the 1200 seat student union theater, which happened to have a 40-foot wide screen with a digital projector in the booth. I was trusted with my own set of keys to the facility. So me and some friends went in after midnight and played Goldeneye till dawn, multi-player of course. By far the most memorable experience playing this game.
So basically, Goldeneye was amazing because they were given the freedom to take risk and think outside the box and do the unorthodox, things many AAA games nowadays don't do anymore because it's all about money. Amazing that a team that never made a video game before have us one of the best of all time. Fantastic video.
Yea that's pretty much the gist of it. Freedom allows for huge failure, but it also allows for revolutionary games. In an opposite manner AAA titles typically stick to proven formulas, low risk, low chance of being revolutionary.
I should have also included when saying it's a 2-way street: There's likely a huge number of utterly failed titles where the dev team was given freedom to take risk, think outside the box, and do unorthodox things. That's the problem with flexibility. It broadens the spectrum, allows for master pieces, but allows for utter failures, as well. That latter bit companies don't want to risk, especially when a good game that fits the current mold of games may do 90% (eg. the latest COD game) as well as a master piece, high risk, low reward from their perspective.
@@G_Gr00v3 Yeah. Fun fact: I'm one of the ~7 people in the world that actually enjoyed DNF :-P. May not be the best experience ever, but was happy to see the Duke back in action after like 20 years with pretty good gfx.
I actually played this game with my brothers so much, that I had actually memorized the screams the enemies would make when shot in sequence. I just had way way way too much fun with this game. One of the best ever.
I would force my brother to play with us if we didn’t have a fourth. Lol. He didn’t like playing video games all that much, plus the fact that he never won gave him greater dislike for the game. Lol. He had went to stay the night at some friends of his and they were trying to get him to play. He gave in saying one game and that’s it. He smoked his friends without them having a chance. They were pissed that he didn’t play after that one game leaving them in defeat like that. Lol. We were playing on a level that was unmatched by anyone we came across.
GoldenEye seriously was a HUGE leap in FPS games, I remember wasting away my sleepless nights playing it. This game is like the McLaren F1 or the F40 of video games. Iconic.
It was about 24 years ago when my friends invited me over to play it. I only saw them when I visited my dad, so I was always conflicted morally about spending time playing goldeneye in their basement or being with my dad. We would put a blanket down the center of the screen and attach it to the ceiling tile, so we couldn’t see the other teams screen. The frantic anxiety of proximity mines in the complex often yielded loud cussing and slamming of the controllers. It was addicting, nerve wracking and fun all at the same time.
Your dad is happy for the time he got with you and happy that you could make good memories with friends while staying at his house too 😌 i worry about my own son having concerns like this, and it just makes me happy when hes happy, regardless of if hes actually with me or not. I think many dads feel this way, i think its part of being a dad
I remember staying up to 4 am with my friends playing "slappers only" or "proximity mines" and we'd have standoffs that would last 20 min or so. such good memories.
Proximity mines in the Complex, placing them in the spawning locations and racking up the kills. Most dishonourable award almost every time. Oh the nostalgia. They were great times.
Placing proximity mines on the ceiling was my favorite move. People would generally look for the proximity mines on the floor. It would always catch people off guard and the hilarity of your screaming victim was the greatest
Proximity mines in the complex. I learned really early on if you threw a mine on a crate of supplies, then took the crate, the mine was invisible when the crate respawned hahaha
My brother, friends and I would split the screen in half with cardboard, and one of us would sit on the floor so we could not see the other screen. Absolute classic, thanks for sharing.
What we did was use a cable splitter hooking it up two separate TVs. We could cover the top and bottom of the team’s screen. I would make my character match theirs to confuse them and either shoot their teammate or delay from shooting at me. Lol.
There was a company that sold a box with mirrors in it. You'd set it in front of the TV and on the other side, it had 4 viewing ports for each player to look into
I was in 8th grade in 1999, months away from graduation and failing half my classes. My dad, almost in passing, said if I didn't fail any classes he would buy me a N64 with Goldeneye. Motivated like never before I did all my back homework and actually studied for tests. And by the skin of my teeth I didn't fail a single class (mostly D's and C's, hey I was no star pupil). I showed my dad my report card, almost convinced that he wouldn't remember our agreement or somehow back out. After studying my card for a moment he said, "I guess we're buying you a Nintendo." It ended up being my favorite video game of all time. And i was good. I was really really good. Nobody could kill me when using remote mines. Some of the best times of my teen year. Thanks Rare!!
Remember when games had to be perfect on release because there wasn't such thing as updates and patches for console. Nowadays games are released broken because "ahh we'll fix it later"
And with virtually no loading time, no installation required, no DLC, no season pass, no online multiplayer with subscription and no required internet connection.
Exactly. For me, insurmountable stumbling blocks. I very rarely engage with modern games as in doing so your just compounding the already severe issues by effectively complying through buying.
Thats only half of it. The "patches" are often 20-30gb in size, and games are huge, because they simple do no cleanup or data optimization. They just compile the whole thing again, and makes you download it. That makes calling it a patch not really true anymore, since you're just downloading the updated chunk of the game all over again, not really patching it, like you used to xD
Updates are a good thing as there can still be bugs that weren't seen and they can add more content. Surface would always bug out for me if I go to certain spots on the level and textures for the faces and particles will be a blocky grey mess. Sadly it's abused by most AAA developers where games receive day 1 multi GB patches, thus rendering physical copies near useless now plus any new added content. If you buy an Xbox One with Halo MCC 20 years from now, you'll get a broken mess with 2 missing games because the servers for the Xbox One will be shut down but at least that's where PC shines as you can still get Doom and the 4th episode expansion
Games in the 90s and early 00s were simply amazing. So much great memories playing split screen with the friends and a box of pizza! Now we’re all just playing through the internet alone in our rooms with a box of pizza.
Oh I was just making a joke about how complicated my editing is. For this video I used Premiere, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and Blender. The latter 2 were for the CG graphics and animation. I've looked into Davinci and while it's really good, I'd still need After Effects and Cinema 4D so for me it just makes more sense to stick with Adobe's Creative Cloud suite for now.
Man, watching this. It’s just like, the story of how lightning was caught in a bottle. Everything about this game came off perfectly. Everyone looks back on this game with the fondness of going on their first date or something. It was just great, it’s that simple. Easily in the top 50 games of all time. You simply can’t tell the story of video games without it
same here .We also did a few round of shooting before going out, taking shots of liquor for each kill. Great equaliser after a few rounds. Great laughs, arriving at the bar wasted....
Some of my fondest teen memories was playing this in a cramped room with 6-7 other people in there. Kings court. Winner stayed playing. The other 3 had to give up the controller to those waiting. And on and on it went lol it was Goldeneye, Forsaken and ofcourse Smash bros.
us 35-40 year olds really have lived through the most incredible things of modern times from their origins and through their peaks. Probably why we are so much cooler than everyone else
Hey some of us that were born 20 years earlier even (1960s), had lived through the 'real' beginnings of home computer games with the likes of the early 8-bit micros; the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Atari 400/800, Tandy TRS-80, etc... but when the SNES and Megadrive/Genesis came along it was pretty amazing with the leap in quality, and then when Playstation, and N64 came along , they were doing stuff that we couldn't have conceived back in the early 80s! And Goldeneye was a culmination of all that to me; I'd loved the Bond films from the 60s to the present, and Goldeneye was no different, but when the game came out it was something REALLY special!! For it's time, an incredible single player game, and the multi-player was just so much fun with a group of you all together.... and it really was a first for consoles So some of us older dudes have seen even more incredible advances...from the first ever, to the latest!! ;-)
Wow!!! I remember when GoldenEye initially was given to me for Christmas along with a brand new Nintendo 64. I loved everything about the game. My friends and I would always start in The Facility and we would respawn and we would always come down from the air vent into the bathroom just like in the beginning of the movie. Oh how simple life used to be. Some junk food, and multiple sessions of multiplayer all-day. Everyday.
@@erablaktv Im with you there. I spent years playing goldeneye and when i found perfect dark it was groundbreaking. I eventually got the cheat by completing some mission under a certain time where you get unlimited ammo no reloads. The most fun cheat i have ever had on any game
Ahhhhhh the memories! So many good times playing this with friends. This is something I miss in games. Back before online multiplayer your friends actually came over to the house, you'd grab snacks and play until sundown. It was awesome times.
Man, I'm 34 and don't play video games at all anymore. Gaming was never a huge part of my life, but this game holds so much nostalgia for me. Great video dude. Also, I forgot how awesome the music was in this game!
I remember when this game first came out. We played it for days straight, stayed up all night playing multiplayer, racked up about 300-400 kills each before we finally threw the towel in. My one friend gave, what he called, "May Day" training to another friend to improve his skills. May Day was his favorite character to use and I came to loath her existence, having been killed by her over and over again thanks to him lol. I totally didn't realize it came out 2 years AFTER the movie, I swear they were released together when I was a teen. This game was revolutionary (to us) and haven't been wow'd quite the same by any other game since. What a fun time in video game history that was.
Wow, imagine if Goldeneye had shipped without multiplayer. While the single player is excellent, the game never would have resonated with as wide an audience without multiplayer. Anyway, great video as always, man!
Many happy hours on the single player campaign back then, but when it came to multiplayer, at the time, it was The best!! Someone had to step-out for a minute, quickly rush to surround their character with proximity mines, then nip back....when they returned BOOOOMM...!!!! It took a while for them to realise what had been done, but SO much laughter inbetween.... Goldeneye just Really caught lightning in a bottle... It was a fantastic single player game - unique for it's type on console; even over and above the excellent Turock - and a hilariously fun multi-player game (amazing to think that was just a last minute bodge-job!!). What a game!!
Agreed, but I think the real meat of the game is in the single player campaign due to the level design, variety, and attention to detail (Snow, Train, Jungle, Aztec, Junkyard ect). They needed to take a little more time to improve the framerate for multiplayer as it becomes a slideshow when you played with four players and explosions occur on screen. After awhile, my friends and I would end up doing 2-player deathmatch sessions as it would be almost impossible to aim consistently with how jittery it was with 4-players. Also, if you played any PC FPS around this time, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D were already out and allowed lanning or online play and had a lot more options and features (everyone could have a full screen experience, framerate could be super smooth if you had a good rig, you could have more than 4 player deathmatch ect). It was just that the setup and cost was out of reach for most people, but it was easily a better experience overall. So if you already were familiar with with multiplayer from these games (lan and/or online), Goldeneye's multiplayer wouldn't have been that impressive.
It was a lot of work lol. But I'm still fairly new to 3D modeling and animation so I'm sure that's part of the reason why it took me so long and why it felt so difficult. @blobvandam is way better than me and has some really cool stuff on his channel.
This game was so much fun when I was young, single and especially multiplayer. Can't even tell you how many hours I played it over the years. It's been probably a decade since I last played but now that my son is old enough, I may introduce him to it. We've already played through Mario and OoT together in the recent months.
My brother and i got the n64 when we were kids and since my parents always sent us to our grandparent's home (about 3 hours from the city) for the whole summer we'd take the console with us cuz there were only 3 channels on TV. there were a bunch of other kids as well that went there to just see the games, i still remember we were playing goldeneye when one of these kids peed his pants cuz he didn't wanna lose his seat xD
@@slickrickwillyjames I guess back then games were a bit more special. Not every household had a computer for example. A phone was still a thing you just talked trough.
One of the best games ever made. Played this game for a year straight. I was so good at multi player my friends eventually refused to play with me anymore. 🤣
I used to do 1 vs. 3 with License to Kill mode on. Had a mile long list of people who wanted a shot at the title. They failed. Would've loved to have squared off with you.
I want to say this without looking through nostalgia glasses: I don't understand the hate this game gets. Lately, people have been saying it hasn't aged well/doesn't hold up, the N64 controller doesn't work well, etc. I believe it's one of the most intuitive and fun first-person shooters I've ever played, and the variety and pure craftsmanship put into Goldeneye (for the technology available at the time) is what make it so great. I think maybe the C buttons make it a bit clunky to look around, but it's not difficult to get used to and still has a ton of replay value. There's also a certain charm to the art style, the animations, weapon sounds, enemy grunts made up of classic sound effects, and the music that make me want to keep playing this game through the decades.
You're totally right. The game is a classic and still revered to this day, while the movie itself was always just considered "ok" in the grand scheme of the series. I liked Goldeneye the movie, but it's somewhere in the middle for me, and I think a lot of Bond fans. Nowhere near the best, but not quite the worst either. But the game, I still bust it out at least once a year.
@7:00 this defines exactly what made this game such a master piece. Not only was the team inexperienced, but did things that the industry would deem "too much work". Thinking outside the box, & doing things the hard way made this game what it is. Look at today's gaming standards, cookie cutter assets being shared by developers, short cuts being utilized & trying to outsmart everything leads to poorly managed, unoptimized & bland games that are being pushed out every few months. No one hardly takes the time anymore to do things "the right way" putting time, & dedicated hard work into today's games & it shows.
I'm making a colossal realistic map of the world for Age of Empires 2 HD, and I have seen my competition. They took less than 3 days for their pathetic maps. I am taking months on mine. You reap what you sow.
There have been modifications using N64 emulators to up the framerate and resolution (one called 1964 GEPD Bundle). There are videos of it in HD at 60 FPS. It looks great.
There’s a few classic 007 flix which I think could make great FPS games as good as Goldeneye was: You Only Live Twice TSWLM/Moonraker TLD/LTK Who else agrees?
There is an Xbox arcade HD remake that got canned due to licensing. It’s the best looking remake, better graphics, HD textures etc. you can find it online for free and it runs on PC. Best version of the game to play
OMG THE NOSTALGIA I'M GETTING FROM WATCHING THIS IS INSANE. I used to play this game all of the time with my brother. I loved watching this because as a five year old, I didn't realize the extend of the impact that Goldeneye had. I'm very glad to have come across this.
"Goldeneye was released two years after the movie of the same name left theatres. The hype had already died down." This game is a perfect example of why you don't rush a game out to meet a deadline, INCLUDING if it's a movie game. They didn't rush it and it was a masterpiece as a result, instead of a stain on history like most other movie games.
I guess that’s true if the game being developed is looking good. They must have seen it during development and though yeah, this is a winner. I’m sure that’s the reason the delays were permitted. If the game you’re making is crappy and its just a cash grab project, and every additional dev day costs you $$ then I can understand enforcing a deadline. That is the business of game development I guess. But this game was such an anomaly on so many levels, it’s strange it happened at all. Great vid man
That practice you've been putting in on CGI has really paid off! Fantastic work dude! I kinda wanna play that Miyamoto version of goldeneye, with the handshakes
@@jmgonzales7701 this game is just it’s own game 🤣 it made any other first person shooting multiplayer look stupid. i don’t know it was just well made. The story from the movie we all knew. the character see familiar I mean everything was perfect
I've never understood why Perfect Dark never had the success that Goldeneye did. It did everything that Goldeneye did but better, and it was always my go to shooter/multiplayer game on the N64. Maybe Goldeneye did better because it came first and had a recognizable name attached to it?
Perfect Dark was an amazing game but it was also released 3 years after GE so it's kinda unjust to compare the two on equal terms. The hardware req. isn't the same even. When GE was released it was strung to console performance and PD used expansion pack. I think when PD was released the hype over GE was already in full motion. Hard to replicate that. Both games are amazing though in their own rights.
The multiplayer in Perfect Dark is about a hundred times better than that of Goldeneye. Not being able to modify weapon sets on Goldeneye was always such a bummer.
This game made me smile every time I put it on. I’m smiling now as I watch the different levels on here. It was the first time that you WERE James Bond in a game.
I always tell people that "Perfect Dark" was like Golden eye but better for multiplayer, but sadly not as many people got to experience it. Both are fantastic. Perfect dark just holds a brighter candle in my inner child nostalegic heart.
Man that background music is so nostalgic. Staying up all night in grade 8, throwing proximity mines all over the place and blowing each other up in 2 player multi-player. Complex and Aztec were the best for multi-player. Perfect Dark came out after and was pretty good. But not 007.
This game is still so good. It’s amazing how everything else after it with the better hardware, graphics, frame rate, etc - still has never really compared. Best game ever behind Ocarina of Time IMO.
two of the 6 games that took up most of my childhood the others being perfect dark, metal gear solid and mario all stars and donkey kong country oh and also killer instinct as well
Awesome research & presentation on this video. I especially like how you tracked yourself into so much of the content. "Living inside" the game throughout your narrative was a really nice touch. You gained another subscriber here! Thanks!
Thanks so much Coluch. This one was a lot of fun to make though at times I was like, "why did I come up with all these difficult to make shots?" Lol. Thank you for watching and subscribing.
Thanks man. It was a pretty smart move. I got the impression that some people think Ken is a bit of a shall we say, exaggerator, but other people from the team said the same thing about him wanting to send Blockbuster copies. Freaking brilliant move.
Thank you very much for uploading this fantastic making of documentary, I thought it was superbly produced and I love the awesome goldeneye - graphical presentation; I thought it was amazing. Thank you for the excellent nostalgia, I will always put this game in my top 10 best games of all time. Too many hours was put into this game in my teenage-hood, I managed to unlock all the cheats and the 007 mode, goldeneye was in the midst of a golden-era in the golden age of entertainment, truly golden times!
I remember playing the hell out of this game in late december 97', was staying at a friend's house, he had it, I was HOOKED, loved everything about it, watched very little tv, celebrated new years, but mostly played this game with a small group of friends while playing the TRU cd on the boom box, true to the game it's called if I remember correctly... great times man, had an absolute blast, the entire atmosphere was awesome, wouldn't trade that for nothing... beat the whole game in the short time I was there, and I loved playing the multiplayer with the guys, lots of fun
Yes! HOOKED or addicted are such the appropriate words to use when describing this game. I would tell my friends, “I need to play!” They didn’t like it when I said that. Lol. In those moments it was peak performance with my gameplay. Lol.
I used to go over my friends house when this came out, and we'd play 1v4 or whatever with screen partitions so nobody could look at other players part of their screen. I remember one time the friend who was hosting started screen looking and thought it was ok because it was his N64 and his house. I was 12 at the time, and it's been what, 27 years since the game came out? I haven't talked to that guy since. Goldeneye... destroyer of friendships.
Yeah, I can't recall them trying to make a game based off a movie license before either. While it wouldn't have been quite the same thing, I remember hearing as a teenager that there was going to be a Mario game based off the Mario Bros. movie but I've never seen any actual evidence to support it.
@@kekistanihelpdesk8508 The Star Wars games for NES, SNES, N64, & GameCube were made by LucasArts, which produced games for multiple consoles. That said, there are dozens of Nintendo games based on movies - Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Terminator, T2, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Casper, Harry Potter, Back to the Future, etc. etc. I think what the OP is confused about is the developer of said titles. Nintendo did not develop/release any movie-based games on their own; they stuck to their mascot franchises (Mario, Yoshi, Zelda, Metroid, etc). All of the movie-based games on Nintendo consoles were developed & released by third-party developers such as Ocean, LJN, LucasArts, RareWare, Mindscape, etc.
Jesus what a fantastic game. I've lived in 7 different states and countless towns and everybody has the same story about Goldeneye. It literally brought people together and of course I have the same experience.

The correction: The reason GoldenEye XBLA didn't release wasn't because of Nintendo, but due to Rare / Microsoft having no licensing to work on the Bond franchise. That, and because GoldenEye 64 doesn't follow the new guidelines imposed by MGM after its release and success back in 97.
You can read about the guidelines they added after GE's success, you can read here - web.archive.org/web/20190614083347/www.mundorare.com/features/the-men-who-knew-too-much/ And for GE XBLA: www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=6578
TL;DR: Even if it was an issue with Nintendo and they shorted it out, they wouldn't get too far as MGM would not agree to remaking the game the same way it was.

For people in the baby boomer generation, probably not.
I actually didn't know there was a Goldeneye movie until a couple years ago. I thought it was a standalone game for 20 years.
Brandon Crosby bahahahaha that’s hilarious

40 and younger, yeah
I played this so much as a 90s kid, but didn't see the movie until I was an adult. The whole time during the film I was saying, "it's just like the game!"
I did the same thing
Exact same for me.
Same, pretty surreal. Kinda sad, “I am unstoppable” didn’t make it in.

This and Silent Hill are perfect examples of what can happen when you let the artists do their work without too much interference
@@MrSlowestD16 oh for sure! A lot of Kickstarter backed games fit that mold, as well as Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana
@@G_Gr00v3 Yeah. Fun fact: I'm one of the ~7 people in the world that actually enjoyed DNF :-P.

The greatest game of all time
I actually played this game with my brothers so much, that I had actually memorized the screams the enemies would make when shot in sequence.
I remember knowing all the spawn points in order in all of the multiplayer levels - a great way to lose friends quickly when playing Licence to Kill.
They had funny sounding screams.
It went, Ah,ooh, ya, oong,ye,ha,Yi, ouye
They made some funny yelps and yells
GoldenEye seriously was a HUGE leap in FPS games, I remember wasting away my sleepless nights playing it.
This game is like the McLaren F1 or the F40 of video games. Iconic.
Dude the graphics and production quality in this one looks AMAZING! You killed it.
Thanks a lot! This one was a real pain to put together at times lol. I'm really happy with how it came out though.

Only a few things can make a 90's kid feel as nostalgic as GoldenEye on N64 !

Dude. It’s hard to understand to people nowadays days but this is ALL we had in regards to competitive shooters. It was revolutionary.
Proximity mines in complex was OP!!!
Ahhhh the good ol days
We did the blanket thing for halo 2.
I liked grenades in the complex, or grenade launchers were just as fun. Lol. Proximity mines in the water caverns was scary. Lol.
Your dad is happy for the time he got with you and happy that you could make good memories with friends while staying at his house too 😌 i worry about my own son having concerns like this, and it just makes me happy when hes happy, regardless of if hes actually with me or not. I spent A LOT of hours playing this game!
I think we all did. Such good memories of marathon 4 way split screen playing! "DUDE! Stop looking at my screen!"🤣
This is up there in hours for me with Halo Combat Evolved
Too many hours i was in high school when it was released and it was a party favorite
No slumber party is complete without it
I remember staying up to 4 am with my friends playing "slappers only" or "proximity mines" and we'd have standoffs that would last 20 min or so. such good memories.
Mines were the best, but slappers only was funny because of all the sound effects of people screaming and getting bitch slapped
@@RCruz Also, if you're quick you can pull off that move where you throw a remote mine at your opponent's face and set it off in mid air

3. Nostalgia
Definitely one of the top three N64 games and probably one of the greatest, most influential video games ever made.
These guys are up there with Oscar award winning directors, they made a masterpiece that had an impact on many, many childhoods including my own.
That suggestion of having all the enemies shaking hands at the hospital in the end would've made no sense lol
Well, in Mr. Miyamoto's defense, it was a movie.
I find it amazing that one of the most enjoyable fun multiplayer experiences most of us have had in a game, was thrown in last minute.

Or they break a game with an update to “balance” it for everyone so the noobs can win. Balls.

Goldeneye on the N64 is one of my greatest childhood memories. I didn't know one kid who had a N64 that didn't own Goldeneye and Super Mario 64.
us 35-40 year olds really have lived through the most incredible things of modern times from their origins and through their peaks. Probably why we are so much cooler than everyone else
I'm 38 and I concur. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing that will compare to the timeframe of the 90's where PS1 and N64 reigned supreme.
True. I wish I was born in the 80s.
Hey, I was born in 1991 but I also grew up playing SNES and N64. Finished all the levels in Golden Eye as a 6 year old kid.
39 here, you are 100% correct!
For it's time, an incredible single player game, and the multi-player was just so much fun with a group of you all together.... and it really was a first for consoles
So some of us older dudes have seen even more incredible advances...from the first ever, to the latest!! ;-)

Many happy hours on the single player campaign back then, but when it came to multiplayer, at the time, it was The best!!
@@joshlewis575 The only thing wrong with your statement is the word "was" being a part of it.
I'll never forget this game, it started my love for gaming. As a 90's kid this was the thing to have on N64

This game was so much fun when I was young, single and especially multiplayer. Can't even tell you how many hours I played it over the years. It's been probably a decade since I last played but now that my son is old enough, I may introduce him to it. We've already played through Mario and OoT together in the recent months.

I honestly can't think of another instance of the game that's based on a movie being better remembered and more revered than the film its self.
Although GoldenEye is one of my favorite Bond movie, the quality of the game clearly was what persisted from the Brosnan era.

There is an xbox one. But it got canceled. You can find the leak
There have been modifications using N64 emulators to up the framerate and resolution (one called 1964 GEPD Bundle). There are videos of it in HD at 60 FPS. It looks great.

The hype had already died down."
This game is a perfect example of why you don't rush a game out to meet a deadline, INCLUDING if it's a movie game.
Great vid man
Yeeeessssss
And most movies based on games as well. I hate the way that happens, just use the hype of the license and run with it.
But most games based on movie licenses aren’t good so doesn’t matter how long you wait the reason they don’t is to cash in on the hype

Yeah I loved perfect dark
Perfect Dark is literally one of the greatest games of all time. So many memories with that game...too bad the IP became trash once it hit Xbox...
This game made me smile every time I put it on. I’m smiling now as I watch the different levels on here. It was the first time that you WERE James Bond in a game.
I'm impressed at how you put everything together. I'm subscribing.
Thanks a lot, I appreciated it.
I always tell people that "Perfect Dark" was like Golden eye but better for multiplayer, but sadly not as many people got to experience it. Both are fantastic. Perfect dark just holds a brighter candle in my inner child nostalegic heart.
I am 30 and I still play it today
Never get tired of it
I love the visuals in this episode! This could very well be an official video from Rare and Nintendo. Great episode.
Wow, thanks!
Man that background music is so nostalgic. Staying up all night in grade 8, throwing proximity mines all over the place and blowing each other up in 2 player multi-player. Complex and Aztec were the best for multi-player. Perfect Dark came out after and was pretty good. But not 007.
Perfect Dark's storyline would fit better today than when it came out. love that game too though
Perfect dark was the shit. Played a lot of goldeneye until perfect dark came out and changed the game again
This was a great video for one of the most amazing games of it's time! Good job. I still love this game.
Rewatched this multiple times, one of if not the best gaming documentary channels on YT. Production quality and narration are just amazing.
From age 12 to 15 or so, I played the hell out of this with my friends... often on a tiny 13" TV. lol
This game is still so good. It’s amazing how everything else after it with the better hardware, graphics, frame rate, etc - still has never really compared. Best game ever behind Ocarina of Time IMO.
two of the 6 games that took up most of my childhood the others being perfect dark, metal gear solid and mario all stars and donkey kong country oh and also killer instinct as well
Completely agreed! That comment gave me feels. Both Goldeneye & ZOOT remain to this day my fondest memories of the N64 era.
Goldeneye and Mario 3 were the best games ever made
007 nightfire was pretty good reminds me alot of goldeneye
Awesome research & presentation on this video. I especially like how you tracked yourself into so much of the content. "Living inside" the game throughout your narrative was a really nice touch. You gained another subscriber here! Thanks!
Thanks so much Coluch. This one was a lot of fun to make though at times I was like, "why did I come up with all these difficult to make shots?" Lol. Thank you for watching and subscribing.
You’re really talented at video making, props
Amazing watch and a ton learned here. Had no idea Blockbuster stores got 20 copies sent over to them!
Thanks man. It was a pretty smart move. I got the impression that some people think Ken is a bit of a shall we say, exaggerator, but other people from the team said the same thing about him wanting to send Blockbuster copies. Freaking brilliant move.
It’s pretty ironic that Blockbuster was part of the key to sales success for Goldeneye considering how Nintendo felt about game rentals haha.
Totes agree. Load blown, I’ve been looking for the history of this game on TH-cam since 2006 and finally here it is. My tit milk is totes expressed.
Blockbuster was key to a lot of games success. We would go there and rent the game before you would buy it.
That’s where I rented it, then me and everyone who played it went and bought it after.
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. This one was a lot of work to put together but comments like this one make it worth it. Thanks!
Lol.
Got my N64 in December of '97 and played the hell out of this game!
We need a remake of this game. Imagine if the dam level had modern graphics and online multiplayer. Oooh so many possibilities.
I think its still bizarre that Nintendo made a movie licensed game to begin with. I can't recall them ever doing it before or since.
Yeah, I can't recall them trying to make a game based off a movie license before either. While it wouldn't have been quite the same thing, I remember hearing as a teenager that there was going to be a Mario game based off the Mario Bros. movie but I've never seen any actual evidence to support it.
They had star wars games on snes and N64.
Friday the 13th on NES
They here producing a game based on Simba the white lion. But that was an anime not a movie, right?
Best fps ever remember many late nights with friends playing splitscreen multiplayer.. Great upload👍👍
Thanks!
The Golden gun was OP lol 1 hit kill
hands down one of the very best ive played in 37 years . thanks for this big trip down memory lane
I had so much fun playing this game, and perfect dark, both are fantastic! Thanks for the reminder
When the TH-cam algorithm works as intended.
Game was absolutely ground breaking, literally revolutionary.
Jesus what a fantastic game. I've lived in 7 different states and countless towns and everybody has the same story about Goldeneye. It literally brought people together and of course I have the same experience.
