  • Finally found some aftermarket Diaphrams for the oiler on these Stihl 009, 010, 011, 012 Chainsaws. Join me as I finally fix the oiler on my 011...took a minute to get some oil flowing, honestly not sure if I also had a blocked oil line but we go over it all in the video. Hope it helps a feller out! #kainkustomgarage #chainsawrepair #oldchainsaw

Welp I finally got the oiler on my 010 running (after replacing the crank seal at last - bar oil in the fuel tank!) - that little diaphragm spring was long gone and I was agonising over the part number . . not easily available :/ but . . . I slapped a random carb spring in there and it worked! This video helped gear me up for it :)

Just serviced the oil pump on a 009, had it running for just over 3 minutes before it started oozing out, I would off given up sooner had I not watched your clip. Cheers

Glad to see you were successful.
Btw the Contra and the 070 also have a diaphragm in the pump. So it's similar in the design. When I exchanged the diaphragm in my 070 2 years ago I also bought an aftermarket part. But the guiding pin of the diaphragm was to big. Instead of drilling the hole in the pump bigger I decided to buy an original diaphragm. Everything worked perfect.
    About the spring:
I always use the original springs if the function is affected because these chinese aftermarket producers don't care about the function. Same applies e.g. to aftermarket carburetor kits if a spring is included...
    Best wishes
    Marco

That is a nice clean and easy starting saw. I find it strange how Stihl had so many different ways of doing things on their saws, even though the same series of saws have a common chassis. Nice job as usual !

I completed the overhaul of my 009L today and I also install a new oil pump diaphragm. After looking a two other videos about oiler on youtube I am confuse about the position of the spring. Yours is working with the spring between the diaphragm and the pump casing and the other videos show the spring under the cover? In both cases it seems to work but the parts catalog also show the spring under the cover.... I did not use the spring provided by the diaphragm supplier , it is too big and and fail to work.... Thansk for the video!

I have a Stihl 011, been struggling with my oiler as well. My spring was gone when took apart.
Stihl exploded view shows spring on other side of diaphram just under cover ?
I have the same cover as yours, kinda like primer but my guts are gone, just a hole through cover. Bought new cover as well like the one you used. Just lost the stupid spring last night and can't find lol
Will try and find another spring and put on other side of diaphram.
Did you ever try the larger spring that came with new diaphram ?

I can’t figure out who you’re intended audience is. With the “LOL’s”ect .I don’t know much at all about small engines. I just got a Stihl 012AV with a case and it starts first pull & seems good.simply looking for the proper oil/gas ratio 1st and foremost. Already got 2 answers from comments on a video I watched before this one. 9year old video.one person said 50-1(that’s what I would think, but,a guy in comments said “moore like 40-1”.Still DK the right answer .?.the internet is more confusing than helpful at times. On this repair,If I was replacing this diaphragm, I think I would have tried the new spring that came with the new diaphragm 1st and put the original cover back on.Keep the variables to a minimum. The button design might have something to do with something on that particular saw.?.?correct ..?.is there some place to get schematics and info from people who built/engineered the different stihl models. From what I understand it is a saw built in the 80’s. Don’t want to mess it up. They don’t make stuff like they used to. Thx

Oh hell Dan! What do you need a chain and bar oiler for? I swear! 95% of men who own a chainsaw have never figured out that you need to clean the track that the chain rides in on the bar every time you stop to fuel up your saw! They can't figure out why it won't oil so they just pretend that it doesn't really need it and run it metal to metal until it turns a nice pretty blue color and the clutch is smoking. I have a pile of chains and bars that those idiots have done the dirty deed to. I call it the ( Don't be this dumbass pile! ) And it makes you want to slap the piss right out of them for tearing equipment up like that! But they will be the first ones to try and make you believe they know everything about running a chainsaw! I find that they are few and far between the ones that truly understand how to make them work properly. When someone asks me what I do for work? I tell them, My job is to wipe mens asses! Because it seems like all I ever do no matter what I'm working on, is correct someones mistakes on every single frickin thing that I touch these days! I try to get it through younger guys heads, You have to cross your tees and dot your eyes and leave no room for error! It's what separates the men from the boys! Can I get an Amen my brother? 😉
