From a non-drummer perspective it REALLY helps when you can hear/see everything this well. I get absolutely lost in these videos and the most I can play is my steering wheel.
7:28 Keeping a steady 3-eightnote beat on the right hand and then switching it to a 4-eightnote beat all while keeping that djenty pattern going with the kick and cymbals underneath... It's one of the coolest things he does. Gives the riff a completely different feel.
It's beautiful and holy hell how good you have to be to play like that w such smooth flow and that limp independence.... it's one thing w kick and both hands, but always w that hat at the same time. Wild.
Seriously this album is the best of every single member of the band. Top notch drumming by Jay, the tapping in this song, the slap pattern of the bass in Burden and the awesome vocal delivery of Dan in every single song is just nuts. They have surpassed all my expectations
Same for me! Was lucky enough to get to meet them at a bar after a show in Oslo some years back! I have always been in awe of Jay, this here really shows his ability and feel around the kit, absolutely love the playthrough and song!
the groove hits so hard and jay is just having tons of fun behind the kit. feel so blessed to be in the same time as this band and the continuation of prog rock as a whole
For real! This is the most complex stuff for drumming in Tesseract. I've heard similar things in his Heights work but not in Tesseract! I'm happy to see how it's being incorporated and uncorked!
@@reiniervanzwieten7092 gotta say, that sometimes is s cary thing for a drummer but Jay is good enough! It's an amazing playthru More technical then anything prior!

A cymbal set up of the gods. They compliment each other so well. No weird overtones that bleed into other cymbals. You can clearly hear the difference with each hit.
Jay is a high-tier drummer!! All the grooves + creativity applied to this awesome track are 'out of the box,' kinda thing. The drums sounds extra KILLER! Such a great mix, and I want that 22" Byzance Vintage Crash NOW! Haha.
Jays work on this song is unreal, he never fails to amaze me. I love how he always looks like he’s having so much fun too. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album! 🔥🔥
Always blows my simpleton mind when he plays stuff just right to where you think it ISN’T 4/4, then you look at the hi-hat just bopping along at a nice and happy, normal 4/4 🤘🏻🙂
"Yeah they're alright but they don't even do polyrhythms like tool does" Yeah, okay bud. lmao Everything about these guys is pure mastery of rhythm, tone, and composition!

what a celebration of fine music .. awesome play through.. beautiful sound .. love it! that part 2:20 is superb.. whole song is like a Movie.. so much effort and talent to put it together for the love of Music.. genuine and breathtaking
My 2 favorite guys in the game are Jay and Mike Malyan because of stuff like this. Love the similarities between the 2 of them how they are both so groove oriented and the facial expressions they both make, you can appreciate how much they enjoy their craft. This is some of Jay's best work though. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album
Mike was the most amazing choice to fill in for Jay temporarily! I have the utmost resect for @mikemalyan (one of my favs) but the Jay & Mike "learning the songs" videos put Jay's licks in a whole new light of appreciation!
Saw TesseracT for the first time in 2016 at Terminal 5 in NY, and they played Deception. And I was blown away, and I haven’t stopped listening to them since.
God almighty, this may be my favorite drum playthrough on youtube. Jay is a beast and a pleasure to watch. This definitely isn't my first time watching. More like tenth? More to come for sure haha.
I just finished from transcribing the section of min. 2.20 and I went to youtube to chill a little and this pops out in front of my face. Thanks dear Jay ! ❤
His groove on this song is unmatched, everything from the cymbal play to the ghost notes is so perfectly placed. Cant wait to see these dudes in November, I’m just going to be standing there with my arms crossed and my jaw on the floor lol

Fuck yeah. I've been waiting for a cover or something, so i could appreciate the drums in isolation, and got something way better. Love you Jay, thanks for this awesomeness
Discovered Tesseract during their Sonder era. War of Being is truly a masterpiece in my opinion! The talent that every member of this band demonstrates is f*cking astronomical.
the whole arrangement makes way more sense listening to the isolated drums! No idea how the composition itself managed to get the whole instrumental spun into an incomprehensible web - but it worked! damn, that's masterclass musicianship!!
Fk this was ethereal, so much soul and groove, the fun he is having on the kit makes me want to have fun on a kit.And i drum in a DAW no where close to this talented need to see that again.
I just set all the clocks in my house to this 😉 Really interesting choices and feel changes etc. Kick placement is so good. Accents are placed deftly. Love it all
Did Jay practice drums for every possible moment during covid? He's seriously levelled up in recent vids I've / since Sonder, and was already amazing. This is great.
The fact that Jay goes "=O" and "xO" mode during his amazing performance, is wholesome. Big up, Jay. :eddie:
He does 15 things at once while I struggle to do 1 thing in 15 minutes.
When your trying to count while playing and it makes you wanna orgasm because you’re keeping up 😂
Punk o matic
