For me, the song becomes truly terrifying at the 1:10 shift into the lines "Oh it gets dark, it gets lonely, On the other side from you." I don't experience the same level of terror from the original vocal recording. The reason is her artistry as a singer had improved and also the recording techniques used like reverb and such. This all creates a desolate, cavernous, emptiness from which Kathy howls in despair, longing and frustration. Horrifying picture of "the other side". One fears that instead of her clawing her way back into the natural world, she might drag us into that void with her, lured by the sirenesque beauty of her singing...

I feel like in the original version you really feel like this is cathy haunting heathcliff as a ghost and you really get dragged into the story by the high pitched banshee notes, In the new vocal it really feels Kate herself is telling the story, her voice is definitely more matured, although I do think you feel the emotions here less , it’s definitely still as dope as the original since she worked on her vocals,feels like ur sitting around a campfire and she’s telling a creepy story! Btw I just recently finished wuthering heights the book and I’ve been thinking abt it like all day…probably why I ended up in this comment section
Whilst I love all her albums including the early ones, I only warmed to her voice on The Dreaming. It started to mature there, and was complete with Hounds. That's one of the reasons I put the new vocal on the old video.

This is her matured voice. I guess it's all a matter of taste. I prefer her voice from The Dreaming onwards. Some like the screech. That's fine too.

Kate Bush was absolutely sooooooo my type. Luckily I had two girlfriends that almost looked exactly like her. One was 18 and a tad smaller and thinner than Kate, the other 19 and a half a head taller (apart from the height issue she could have been Kate's identical twin). Both were heavy into the witching style (somewhat it seems to be eminent with this type of women) but the funny thing was that neither of them knew about who Kate Bush was until they met me. Naturally they became instant fans after listening to my KB-collection. Oh how sweet youth was back then in the 1980s and 90s.
My older brother had a poster of her on his bedroom wall. I was about 12 years old, but it sure sparked the imagination!! Absolutely LOVE all those 70's Classics, always come back to them, no matter what. It truly was a Golden Decade for Music....!!

The new vocals are "too polished". By a professional world class singer, rather than a ghost who's a little bit obsessive about her man.
