Hello Elizabeth, seeing Granny Smith and the narrow gauge brought back sweet memories. I grew up in Port Elizabeth, my late dad worked for the railways, on the PE harbour. The 2ft line ran up to pre cooling bringing fruit from the Langkloof for export. I had quite a few trips on the Apple Express, and one where I had a cab ride as the fireman was an old school friend of mine.

Wonderful! Thanks so much for popping inn, love the comment, true nastalgia! The apple express ran through our farm, I used to ride on horseback up to the further part of our farm to greet the train, then raced down to the farm, gathered one and all and waved hello to train from our Lines General Dealer Store & Take Away foods! We even registered the collectors Avontuur Tauraco Loerie Bird Silver spoon ! Memories for sure, each Saturday and every Great Train Race day!

@@Tauraco00 no, did not know that, are you Afrikaans by any chance? I also recall the red garret, called Solly. It used to run from PE Station down to Kings beach for a December holiday.

@@Waterkloofmr hi we owned the Farm Tauraco's Rest in Loerie, along with business....1979 till 1996...my grandparents on my Mother's side owned Little Tauraco...you might also recall this small holding, vegetable patch along with fruit trees right next to the entrance of the village, rail crossing, the station master used to stop there for tea {whilst opening the sidings to Station ) and had his coffee, cake...he had 15 minutes before the train rolled inn. My Grandfather bought this small holding when he retired from Department of forestry. Google longmore summit, you will see 2 cyclists going up to longmire plantation...you will see cross, my Late Mother's resting place
