  • This video is a review of my 2003 Suzuki SV1000s, and the modifications I have done to it, through the years. This bike has just over 26,000 miles on it, and has never let me down. I have used it for track days, sport touring trips out of state, motocamping, bike rallies, twisty weekend rides, and even a daily commuter at times,

    Love my SV1K. Brilliant bike, and whilst it's a bit old ('04 naked model) and not the fastest, I've still got room in the garage for it for a while to come (until I can afford a SuperDuke 1290R lol)

    Fun bikes! Magnets in the rotor should be checked. I resecured mine with Permatex sleeve retainer and used aircraft fuel tank sealant to encapsulate them.

      I sold my SV1k last year. It had 26k miles on it and was still running great.
      Luckily I never had the magnets issue, but did see on the forums, many folks did.

    did the gsxr750 front end just bolt on or were modifications required?

    • @DougZ73
      @DougZ73  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. Yes, that Era Suzuki's, all used the same steering stem/ head bearing combos, so as long as you had whole front end, it would swap over very easily. Whole front end would be forks, and triple clamps, wheel and fender. Some brake calipers too.
      01-02 GSXR 1000, 03-08 SV1k, 99-03 GSXR 600/750, Many interchangeable parts, including wheels. I could swap my white wheels from my 2001 GSXR 600 track bike to my SV1k and back, very easily.

    Hi, could you give me some details on modifying the top clamp for the handle bar risers you have? Thanks.

    • @DougZ73
      @DougZ73  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, thanks for watching. I appreciate it. you should be able to find plenty of videos on TH-cam or information on the internet stunt bars sport bike. The gist of my build was besides just drilling and mounting the bars and risers, I fabricated solid stock aluminum to fit in the recesses of the top triple, and welded it in, making it much stronger. Be advised drilling these parts on your motorcycle might make it unfit for road use and you should proceed at your own risk.

    Does it feel faster than the fz09?

    • @DougZ73
      @DougZ73  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching a commenting. I would say its close, but the FZ09, and I had both bikes set up, was about 60-70 lbs lighter. That and its short wheel base certainly made it feel faster.

    So, if you could only keep one. Would it be the SV or the FZ-09?

    • @DougZ73
      @DougZ73  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be a really hard choice. The SV and I have been through so much together. The FZ09 is new and has all the bells and whistles, makes roughly same power and is lighter by about 60 lbs. Probably the FZ at this point, but shhh, don't tell the SV1k.

      @DougZ73  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching first of all. I took off the clip-ons years ago. When I used the bike for track days and for doing twisty rides in the mountains of Pennsylvania Bucks county,, the clip-ons were great . But once I was using the bike for sport touring and daily commuting 3 to 4 days a week I did not want to be bent over so I mounted a pair of Tag handlebars.

      Bout to get a black one same year, apparently the guy has his bike kicked over and they ripped out the ignition system trying to steal it. I always loved the bike (always wanted one) is I figure it is worth the 600$ risk haha he says he can’t figure out how to rewire it but when I seen the pictures I figured the motor is fine just a crappy DIY wire job. Thanks again for the video!
