I have heard that while doing upgrade gui we should go away from that image or else it will cancel the upgrade is it true ? Could you please provide command line steps as well.
If you use the recommended version of the WLC so you will not face any issues or cancellation but if you upgrade HA WLC so that time if both controller is not synced properly or not functioning properly then you will face cancellation but there is a not impact in your network while upgradation time or cancellation time

If you have 9800 controller in HA so there is no downtime only enable one option I have already told in video
