- In this video and channel @Advance_Technology_by_Rana I am going to discuss a new feature that you need to know about if you're updating your #cisco Catalyst 9200 or 9300 switches' firmware as a whole stack with a USB flash drive. This new feature will allow #networkengineer to more easily manage and troubleshoot IOS-related issues.
Further, This playlist is related to firmware upgrades for Cisco hardware such as Routers and Switches. In this playlist, you can watch a video on the catalyst 9200 stacks of 5 switches IOS upgrade. Which is really amazing and Unbelievably Easy - You Have to See It to Believe It ! 🤩🤩
In these playlist videos, you can find IOS upgrades for Cisco ISR 4331, Nexus 93180YC, catalyst 3850, Catalyst 9200, and catalyst 9300 series of switches. I will also be discussing some of the best practices for upgrading these devices.
Step 1: Clean Up flash to ensure at least 1GB of space in flash to expand a new image:
Switch# install remove inactive
Step 2: Copy new image to flash, USB drive should be 2 - 8 GB Insert USB to the switch
Switch# Show usb0:
You can see the image on the USB
Step 3: Then copy image from usb to bootflash:
Switch# copy usbflash0: bootflash: IOS Image.bin
Switch# dir flash:*.bin
Switch# verify /md5 flash:image.bin
Step 4: Set boot variable using
Switch(config)# no system boot all
Switch(config)# boot system flash:packages.conf
Switch(config)# no boot manual
Switch(config)# exit
Switch# write memory
Step5: verify the boot variable is set to flash
Switch# show boot
The output should display BOOT variable = flash:packages.conf .
Step 6: Software install image to flash:
Switch# install add file flash:new-image.bin activate commit
Step 7: Verify that we are running the new image:
Switch# show version

Nice video bro, really a good job very useful, please if I perform a maintenance for a stack, shoud I power down the whole stack? or I can power down the switches one by one. Thanks in advance
What kind of maintenance you need ?? There is only maintenance which is firmware upgrade normally we do for switches and it’s didn’t required any shutdown .
It is a phisical maintenance for cleaning the cases using the blowing, thanks
Hi Rana, first thank you for this video. I would like to know if I can do this process remotely as I don't have access to the switch physically. 2nd will the old config be overwritten when the switch back online? will I lose connectivity if I do it remotely via a jump host? I already moved the image to the flash via tftp. Could you guide me with this as I don't want to lose connectivity or the current configuration. Thank you.
Yes, absolutely you can do this process remotely within a few minutes. What you need anyone who has physical access to this device should plug in Flash Drive to the USB port on this switch. 😊 😊 😊
The configuration will not be void whether you do it via TFTP or with the USB. But it is recommended to take a backup of the configuration. you will not lose the connectivity in the case of USB or TFTP. but carefully how are do connect in the situation of a TFTP upgrade.
Better advise to go with my method of upgrade (USB) to get rid of all the concerns and it is faster. 😊 😊
@@Advance_Technology_by_Rana Hi Rana, I can't go for a USB as the switch in an unreachable location. I have to connect via a jump host to reach it only.
@@The_Son_of_Oden Ok go with the Jump host however your device is supposed to be reachable via LAN and use FreeFTPd or Solarwinds TFTP server. Don't forget to take a backup of your configuration. You can copy it into Notepad as well.

I watched two of your videos; upgrade IOS on a 9300 and this video. On the 9300 video, on Step 3, you used the following commands: 'copy usbflash0: bootflash'. on this video you used the commands 'copy usbflash0: flash'. Is there no difference in function between 'bootflash' & 'flash' ?
There is no difference in both commands, except for the change of catalyst series or IOS difference.
At the end you have to give again install remove inactive
Right?
No need again. It’s only required at the beginning to create space for new IOS. You can run it again and it will recheck any unused IOS.

I facing issue with c9300 48port switch not working. Ideal status. Can you help me out.
Connect with console port and check if you are able to see romon or flash mode. if the switch itself faulty then claim RMA from Cisco but you need to have active contract with them
one question, that package config command, do we have to put pack config file in USB? if yes then how and what is that file?
