I once had a Gold Severum that ate a plant…a PLASTIC PLANT 🌱! She was choking on it, so I quickly removed her from the tank, put her on a towel on my lap and removed the green obstruction from her mouth with tweezers!! It was a delicate procedure but I had to move fast! As soon as the plant was dislodged, I’m pretty sure she smiled at me 😃 She lived many years after year and always kissed my finger and let me pet her. Daisy was my all time fav wet pet 😊💛🐠
Centerpiece in my 75 is a female convict cichlid. She's pretty big for a female, gotta be pushing 6 inches. And the orange on her belly is always there and pretty bright. But sometimes it gets absolutely vibrant!
Thank you so much for this video! I just set up a 75 and plan to get some fish for it this week. I’m thinking of going with a Geophagus as my centerpiece. 😊 BTW, can’t wait to see you at the Clash! Should be a fantastic event.
I just picked up a 75 gallon yesterday, I plan on getting. 1 Rainbow Shark 6 Tetras 6 Panda Cory Catfish And am wondering what other freshwater fish could I get that is semi large (probably 8inch) and are showpieces.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I really appreciate the reply, I’ll switch the Rainbow Shark out for a Severum. I watched your more in depth video on them and am now wanting one lol. Because I want to avoid unwanted breeding should I just grab two of the same gender?
My 86g is fully planted and the biggest fish I have is 3 Chana Gourami. All the other fish get along well, Green Neons, Glolight Danios, mollies, daisy blue ricefish, and salt n pepper cory. Not to mention the blue neocardina, amano shrimp, and nerite snails. A true ecosystem!
I have a community 75 with 3 schools , brilliant rasboras scissortail rasboras and Danieos. My center piece fish are a bright yellow and white angel and a kribensis.
watching this video about the 75 reminded me of a couple questions i have about cichlids. Im putting together a 75 right now and im planning on stocking with Brichardi and multies. I want to keep the visual clutter to a minimum so im planning on useing an under tank sump for the filtration. two questions i have that are somewhat related. in your videos you say that turning the water over 3-5 times per hour is plenty, others have said as high as 10 times, im leaning toward your estimate for that but wondered if you had any ideas more specific to the stock for this tank. related but seperate is how much water flow do these guys like? Betas of course dont like any, White Clouds like lots, but I havent been able to find any info on flow for cichlids. they are a lake fish so should I assume they prefer less? Love you guys videos, always so informative, please keep up the good work and good luck with all the fish room changes!
10x is very heavy flow. Most fish would not like fighting that current constantly. As an example - in our multi 50 gallon low boy we have just two sponge filters and one Seachem Tidal 35 that only puts out 130gph. Without the sponge filters I would probably add a second one, but that's it.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Jason, Thanks for taking time to reply, I really appreciate it. I agree that 10x is massive, I think that particular person is way more concerned with perfect water clarity and so tends to over filter. I'm planning on 3-4 times max and will probably diffuse the return so the flow is more mild for these lake fish. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I took in a friend’s fish and he told me it was a rainbowfish but when I opened the cooler it turned out to be a red tailed shark. Had him in my 55 community tank - thankfully heavily planted - and while he and my female Bolivian ram are best friends (even spawning behaviours, so weird!) it’s not sustainable long term so I got them a 75 g and will mix them with my species only tank with 20 tiger barbs.
My RTBS is a sweetheart if she has a hide. Love that I have a 75G with her and she does so nice with so many species. Aggression aside, the personality of that fish is Wonderful. You can also try a rainbow shark as well.
Question if anyone knows. I’m new to larger tanks I’m getting my 1st 75 gallon bow front I’m going to be planting and letting it mature a couple weeks before adding the fish but I really would love to have a geophagus like the first one and a thread fin or heros efasciatus could I mix 2 of those or would they not get along well?
Geos can sometimes get along ok. The tapajos might be best in that size tank? If you want to plant the tank stay away from severums - they eat plants! Have fun!
I have 4 adult EBA in 75 would love to add a Sevrum AND some other non schooling SA fish for variety. should I go down to 2 eba? And any suggestions on a stock list
Thanks. I have a hard time with bioload and size calculation. I want to fill it but I dont want to do water changes 3 times a week either. Say I keep the 4 and get a single severum. How much "space" do I have left. I run a fx4@@PrimeTimeAquatics
I have a red tail shark as my centerpiece fish for my 135 but I so wish I could have a geophagous instead but I have a planted scape tank and have cardinal tetras so I can’t really get no fish
I just have big schools of tetra in my 75 right now. I’m thinking of upgrading one of the 40g breeders to a 75… it my just be a species specific yellow lab tank.
Honestly, try and source from someone with similar water. I've made the mistake of putting RO fish into my tap water tanks, and messing with water parameters is so high maintenance and easy to screw up. I bet if you explore the fish fam fishtubers you'll find someone with your water and a discount code.
I think a super underrated fish for a 75 gallon that I personally have never kept but can be the ultimate center piece fish is fancy goldfish. 4-5 Orandas, Ranchus or Ryukins would make a really nice personable tank if you are ok with not having any live plants except Pothos. My 75 setup is not working out as peacefully as I imagined it would and I've seriously considered this option if I do decide to go a different direction in the near future. Might try to keep them with some black Mollies as well.
@PrimeTimeAquatics Great question! Currently, they're in a 125-gallon with 5 Severums. The problem is that the 125 has gravel. I guess I'll have to purchase another 75-gallon or change the gravel to sand.😢
Jason how did you not touch on any of the Lake Tang fish. My red tail was a bully in the 55. He went into the 215 so the grade school bully went right to high school and now is not a bully anymore

Some times fish do some weird things!
Much better dynamic between the two of you than the last video that I watched from 3 yrs ago.
Thank you!
Jason once stole my DeLorean, traveled back in time, punched a t-rex right in the face, then returned my DeLorean with a full tank of gas. What a guy.
Too funny : -)
I mean he is pretty fantastic. 😆

All are gorgeous fish. Gina
I’ve been eyeing 75s and now this video appears.
I wish I could go above 55g at my apartment. I'd definitely go with severums. It's not just 1 or 2 things about them that I like. It's everything
Idk if you’ll respond, but any suggestions for a 75 gallon *planted* tank?? I’m setting up a 75 in my living room and I would love some color and size

Can't wait to start up my new tank
He should do Central American options more often
I saw a frontosa with the Geophagus altifrons. I would assume this will this work? Thanks!
It worked for many years for us. Neither are overly aggressive and their diets are similar.
Ok, good to know. Thanks for the reply/info!@@PrimeTimeAquatics

I might leave the EBA at four. They usually accept new less aggressive cichlids line severums and mostly ignore non-cichlids.

What is the best online purchase source for severum and Geo Altifrons?
Maybe The Wet Spot?

If that’s the only thing I’m the tank it should be ok.
