    A large school of Giant Danios would look great in a planted 55, especially since they're so active. That same would be true for a lot of medium-sized barbs.

    We just had a 55 gallon long given to us… I am upgrading from a 29 long. I decided to get 2 HOB filters each rated for 30 gallon tanks, & lots of plants, natural rocks & driftwood which I already had. It’s cycling right now with Malaysian trumpet & bladder snails & fish food. Of course I got Fritzyme 7, Seachem Prime, easy green, flourish & flourish advance… I have a DIY CO2 tank w/2 bubblers as well. Hopefully this will be the last tank I set up lol I am going to put all my nano fish in it & a few extras + Cherry Shrimp 😍🪴🐟🐠🐌🦐🪵🪨

    I do run an Mbuna 55 gallon myself and while it’s mostly worked in the year I’ve had it running I do agree with your suggestion that a Johanni isn’t the best for a 55 community. My other fish get along just fine though. Listed below here are the fish 2 Female Bumblebee cichlids, 1 male bumblebee, 1 male johanni(who is also my tank boss who mates with all the females), 1 female albino socolofi cichlid, 1 male blue zebra(who my johanni loves picking a fight with), 1 female blue zebra, 1 male red zebra, 1 female red zebra, 2 female labs, 2 male labs, 2 female aruautus cichlids. A bit over stocked I know, I run two 350 penguins and a small magnum canister filter for filtration along with a 550gph powerhead. I may rehome some of these fish down the line and see where it’ll go for there. With my big guy mating all the time I also have fry that live and escape into the rock cracks and they’re thriving haha, great video!

    Love the videos Jason! I trust your POV as an educator and need advice. 8 months into the hobby. Just got a 60 gallon, it’s a bit taller than a 55 but relatively the same dimensions. Running an aqua clear 110 in one corner, removed carbon and put in Matrix, and added a pre filter sponge. Other side I have a small sponge filter rated at 40 Gal. It’s running a fish less cycle for now. I was hoping to swing by my stocking ideas and see if it’s feasible or if it’s way too much.

    Wonder if you have ever kept Geophagus Heckelii "Albino"? I saw a video of them and thought they looked awesome. I havent kept any Geophagus since I was a kid. Picked up a couple 75G tanks from Petco during the $1 dollar per gallon sale. Was thinking of putting them in one of those. Was wondering what the minimum to keep together in a 75G tank. Then who to keep with them. Like you in the Chicago area so wondering how is our water for them.

    Question on Geophagus--Googling, I've seen folks say that they shouldn't be kept in groups smaller than 5 or 6. If they're good on their own, I'd definitely think about adding one to my 55 gallon community tank--already in my 55 are 3 angels, an electric blue acara, 5 pearl gouramis (again--I added 5 because the interwebs said they shouldn't be alone), a dwarf blue gourami, two german blue rams, and a few crabs and snails. Will a fish like a geophagus get lonely in a bustling community tank with no other geophagus in there?

      With that stocking I probably wouldn’t add another larger cichlid. It would pro a lot try to compete with other fish for territory.

      For an Asian-themed tank there are many options - take a look at barbs - they might be cool to add to that size tank. Golden Chinese algae eater would be cool as well. A gourami would also be fun.

      Bristlenose work well in a 55! The rainbows I've had in the past left my silver dollars alone. However, with five full grown silver dollars it might get a little crowed in the middle part of the tank. You could try dwarf neon rainbows? Those would be cool - six or so?

    Nice and timely video. Just picked up a 55 that some people were giving away. What do you think of 2 angels/school of rasboras/2 synodontis petri/and some otos or cories? The other idea I had was maybe a CARES species as the centerpiece like XENOTOCA EISENI? What do you think would go well with those?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have some angels with rasboras and cories right now and really enjoy the combination. The synodontis will probably leave the angles and rasboras alone. I'm not sure how they will interact with the cories though. I might go with one or the other if I were setting up the tank (probably lean towards cories given they are from the same locations as angels). The only issue with the Xenotoca would be temp. They would prefer temps in the low 70s while the other fish would prefer upper 70s. Sounds like you're going to have a fun tank!
