@@jackfrost2146 In that solos he did cos there was no lyrics for 4 minutes and thus the that solo was meant communicate what its like to be "comfortably numb" .. listen carefully and ull hear screams of anxiety and despair along with some glimmers of hope and clamoring for survival.... nice reaction. Gilmour knows how to make a guitar emote, It's one of the reasons he is considered by many to be the best. There are a lot of talented musicians that can shred or make it scream but few can make it emote and no one like Gilmour.

Phenomenal guitar solo. And this version is the best of the ones I've heard (and that I've heard quite a few). The second solo lasts more than five minutes but I always think it's short, it should go on and on and on and on... The whole Pulse concert is a fantastic treat for the ears as well as the eyes. Perhaps the best live performance in the history of modern music. If you like David Gilmour's guitar, try "Sorrow", "Run Like Hell" or "Coming Back To Life" from this concert. Amazing!
Please excuse my English, I am from the Czech Republic.

Yeah, I've seen them live a lot too, and this is the best version of that solo I've ever heard too. In fact, this is my favourite solo all time, although I know that's hardly an original opinion. And while all of your suggestions were good, certainly if they like the light show and how it worked with the guitar, then Sorrow is a great one for you to mentioned first.

What sets David Gilmour apart from other great great guitar players, is the way he turns his solos into an emotional ride, so you not only hear it but you feel it too! You said it man, David Gilmour puts so much expression in his playing, he makes it sing. In interviews he's a very reserved guy, he doesn't show much emotion, but put a guitar in his hands and that's where he says all he really needs to say.

Gilmore's 2nd solos is epic, historical, maybe the best ever laid down. The entire song is a masterpiece. If you don't get a lump in your throat or misty eyed, if not outright crying by the end, you were born without a soul.

My friend, as someone who was young when Pink Floyd first started I'm so happy you've found this. From the reaction of yourself and your lady I hope you let your little one listen to this sort of music as well. Pink Floyd will be considered the Bach, Beethoven and Brahms of the 20th century when she is an adult. Don't feed your child mainstream trash because there is no art or effort in it. Todays society teaches people to pay too much money to leave an auto tune Minaj or any Rap artist you care to name concert as if they've just left McDonalds. Full but hungry. The best for you and your family for the season from Australia.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

Just FYI, in the context of The Wall story, this is a chapter. Rock star "Pink" has built a metaphorical wall around himself with various "bricks" of negative experiences (songs Goodbye Blue Sky, Mother, Another Brick in the Wall, etc.) in his life. He has become comfortably numb (definitely not a good thing) to the world, and is now catatonic ("you are only coming through in waves" and "your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying"), but he has a show to do. The doctor is trying to get him going ("can you tell me where it hurts") and gives him a drug ("just a little pin prick").
The song Hey You shows us he's not truly comfortable though, and it all comes to a head, in his head, in The Trial.

No fucking way, LANpartyAnimal. I was there at the same concert in 1973 The release of their "Dark Side Of The Moon" Album, at the Cow Palace, in South S.F. What a small world huh? I live on an Island in the state of Washington. Where are you at? If I remember correctly, I was in my Senior Year of High School at that time and I am 65 years old at the moment. What I really enjoyed about that concert is that Pink Floyd sounded EXACTLY like they did on the radio! It was one of the best Sounding concerts that I've ever heard. Oh and when they played "Echoes," green smoke pouring off of the stage and they played it note-for-note as the original. Awesome. Nice to run into a brother from another and a fellow "Pink Floydian" as well. I hope you're doing well and are reasonably Happy. Oh and Happy Holidays to you and yours Keep Smiling.... You wanna know something? We were so fucking Spoiled, with the Music we had! These poor people today, not even knowing what imusic can be, when the artists actually play an instrument and sing at the same time AND No Auto-Tuners, No Nothing, just raw talent. Where is that today? Peace to you man...

I realize a lot of folks are suggesting other Pink Floyd songs, all great suggestions, and I'll add my voice to those calling for "Sorrow," "Run Like Hell," "High Hopes," and "One of These Days" from the Pulse concert. Pink Floyd were known for their live performances, for every point you mentioned. The lights, special effects, and the fact that they always managed to make live versions of their songs consistently better than the studio/audio versions, one of the few groups able to do so. Don't forget, the performance you watched was 1994, the song originally came out in 1979!! I have seen them twice myself, back in the 80's/90's and of the 30+ shows I've been to, those two are top two for sure!! (Yeah, Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite group)

I saw Pink Floyd in the mid 80s, and they were incredible. They played Comfortably Numb with David Gilmour's signature guitar solos in the song. Just amazing !!

Hey there Recklezz Fam. You guys were right on target when you said that through the guitar solo that even though no one was singing any lyrics, that guitar was still communicating with you! I mean that guitar was Screaming and crying at times and other times it would almost become comforting. David Gilmore is the Guitarist and those smoother than smooth vocals. Pink Floyd is just an amazing group, always has been. Pink Floyd was started in 1965 and they have been in a league of their own ever since. Awesome Song, right? And to think this concert was in 1994, basically 30 years after they began. Not too shabby, I would say. They still play now & then? Incredible! Thanks for sharing this with all of us out here. Keep Smiling...

I have been listening to Pink Floyd since 1973 when Dark Side of the Moon released. Fact is that name, Pink Floyd is that members of the band are influenced by Blues. Because name came from two Blues men: PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council. Their iconic album: Dark Side of the Moon stayed on the charts for over 700 weeks setting World Record. I think that it's still on the charts thanks to you, younger generation listening music that I listened to when I was young.
Guitarist, David Gilmour I think is recording new songs. He and other surviving members: Nick Mason, drummer and Roger Waters Bassist (He is not in this video because he left the band) still touring.

Your baby is so beautiful. I miss little ones, my kids are way older. It's hard when they're really little, but so great at the same time.
FYI many people think this is literally the best rock guitar solo ever. I can't pick "a best", even among David Gilmour solos let alone everyone else, but it's on the list.

The solo on the album recording is considered by many (including me) to be the greatest solo of all time. The pulse version is probably the greatest guitar solo ever recorded. He may not be the most technical player but there's something to be said about his ability to write solos that speak to everyone.

Leo Fender made the guitar and God made Dave Gilmour to play it! You don't just listen to the music, he makes you feel it....

I saw pink floyd in the early 90s. Me and my girlfriend at the time took some acid in the parking lot before we went in. Comfortably Numb was the last song they played and it's the only one I remember

Lyrics, music and then David Gilmores second solo. There`s no word strong enough for it. About the lyrics Rodger Waters was seriously sick as a child with high fever. What a lovely family you are! Regards from Sweden.
