  • Mizuno Pro 245 vs Mizuno JPX923 Forged Forgiveness Comparison Review. Where I test the Forgiveness differences and also what differences are there in Feel and Looks between the JPX923 Forged and the Pro 245. The 923 Forged is the first Forged iron in the JPX923 Range where the Pro 245 is the most Forgiving and most Distance inspired iron within the Mizuno Pro Range. Commonly used as bridging irons for golfers moving between the more Game Improvement side of Golf to the more Players section.

    I'm a higher handicap returning to the game - did a fitting that included the JPX923 pro, JPX923 forged and the MP245, the feel of the 245 is remarkable. I just received my 5-GW set this weekend from Mizuno. They are absolutely gorgeous clubs, can't wait to hit the links (UST F93 graphite shafts, 1 degree upright). I highly recommend a fitting regardless of your playing level, the back to back comparisons and fine tuning is worth the time and cost for sure.

I have a ball speed of just over 100 mph and carry of 145 yards with my MP29 7 iron(34 degrees loft, 115g Project X LZ shaft) and wondered if my speed would pick up enough to game the 245's 6 iron if I dropped to a lighter shaft. Great review Jay. The 245 seems like a winner this year. I've been pretty dead set on a Zx5/Zx7 combo but the 245 keeps smiling at me from across the room. Weakening 2 degrees would take a little offset away and add some bounce which I've found helps me with Mizuno irons. It would also ad some spin for control and shorten the distance down a touch. Well done Mizuno.

    Just did a Mizuno Fitting. I have been playing 225s for the last two years, but its pretty obvious I was in a shaft that was too heavy and stiff for my swing, and definitely have been feeling that I might have bit off a little more than I can chew with those clubs. I walked in thinking I was going to get 245s with a better shaft option, but admittedly, I got better numbers from the 923 forged. The fitter switched from the 245 to the 923 without telling me, and I instantly got 3-4 miles of ball speed. I tried to let the numbers and not my ego make the decision, and I ordered the 923. I dont have them yet, but all this waiting around is giving me second thoughts. I am currently a 12, trending down, but admittedly, my ball striking is not my strongest suit. Especially out of the toe, I felt like the 923s were better on my misses. Am I crazy to buy the 923 forged over the 245s? The Mizuno rep was adamant the 923s were a touch more forgiving, but not sure your data agrees.

    • @NoCapPinnochio
      @NoCapPinnochio 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't think you're making a mistake with the 923 forged. They are undoubtedly the safer play. Performance will be pretty much the same, but you have a bigger club head to give some more buffer on the mishits. I agree that I would have guessed the JPX 923 Forged were more forgiving. I'm in the same boat as you, with my game trending upward, and misses generally being toe side. The forged are great for this. It's really hard to compare the data without having the club delivered in the same way. Face open a bit adds more spin and launch, attack angle higher can lead to more spin and launch. If you were comfortable with the 923 Forged, there's nothing to second guess here. Enjoy your new clubs!

  • @trevormorton8415
    @trevormorton8415 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Interesting the Mizuno Players iron is more forgiving than the JPX. Feel like everyone would assume the opposite.
    I currently have the Callaway RAZR XF Forged irons. "Super game improvement" but find as my swing and strike are improving, these irons may be working against me. Had them 10 years, looking for something a bit more "grown up" now.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think firstly it comes down to fitting. Then depending on the results and how close the options were I would then consider the price and the different justifications. Price does have to be a consideration, but any golf purchase should be one for a good number of years so the difference is price has to be negotiated over the years of use that you'll get from them. 👍🏻

Doesn’t seem like there is too much between them, I did read something about the Pro 245 being for a slightly slower swing speed but wanted to get your opinion
    I swing my 7 iron 90mph, 5° in to out. My bad shot is a hook because I close the face down too much. Please help 😅

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Angus, I'd say with a purchase of this kind of monetary value then I'd want to test all options. There may be or may not be differences between that and the Forged as they are lofted very similarly. Individuals react differently to irons so absolutely I'd want to test them before purchasing the Forged.
      Also ignore what you read about Swing Speed and iron choice, the only real information surrounding that is when you are talking 70mph and less speed where the HL irons definitely can make a difference to Carry distance over the Std Game Improvement irons 👍🏻

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, in the weird world of youtube, the latest video of the Pro 241 actually hasn't done great on view count so far so I can only assume golfers don't really care enough in their masses about the new 241. I'm not sure I can justify the time taken to produce a compare video (takes the longest of all videos to create and produce) that may well only appeal to a fraction of golfers.
      I can say however that due to the changes design of the 241 with less meat on the heel and toe and more focused weight behind the hitting area that the 242 may well be less forgiving than the 221 👍🏻

    • @trebledawson
      @trebledawson 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AskGolfNut Understandable, and that matches with my expectations. The muscle shaping in the 241 seems like it would have better performance out of the middle, but less forgiveness on misses. Thanks for your work!

    Great review Jason, I'm not sure why Mizuno produce two different clubs with essentially the same performance. Ok in terms of aesthetics they are very different looking. I have the JPX919s forged and now looking for something different. The 245s tick a lot of boxes. I think it's really is between the ZX4/5s and the 245s, both nice looking irons, so all down to performance I guess. I have a moderate swing speed so my bet would the ZX4s but would like to be proved wrong!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just be wary about using very strong lofted irons if you have a moderate swing speed, you may find that you will have to transition into hybrids fairly early on and quite quickly around the 7 iron area. Mizuno make these 2 irons as bridging iron and to be perfectly blended depending on the golfers needs and they also have slightly different levels in the way of how forgiving and where from on the club face 👍 oh and please call me Jay, I haven't been called Jason since I was last told off by my mum when I was young 😀

  • @atxrich
    @atxrich 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Whilst the 7-iron numbers are virtually identical, I wonder how the loft differences in the scoring irons between these 2 models impact distance gaping? Too often, these stronger lofted, hotter faced mid-to-long irons can create 15 or more yardage gaps between clubs which put large gaps at the bottom of player’s bags.
    I think Mizuno try to address this with the 245 and 243 thru slightly stronger lofts in the scoring irons but I’d be interested to see what that looked like in practice.
    I currently game the 923 HMP and with a 28.5 degree 7-iron which definitely puts some separation in my bag that I wouldn’t necessarily consider in a fitting/demo. I’m strongly considering a full swap with 245 to gain a bit more control and perceived improvement in distance gaps.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are correct that the gapping is different and does or may lead to be more or less helpful with golfers of faster or slower speeds, but also dynamically how much loft they deliver between their iron set. Its hard obviously during a fitting where only a 7 iron is present, however the fitter can measure what you do with your lofted irons to see the disparity between that and the 7 iron to allow for this 👍

    I notice that you and many club reviewers using GCQuad strike the ball slightly (2-4 degrees) toe down. Is that due to shaft flex, using demo clubs not spec’d to you, or immaterial? I have a much slower swing speed (65 mph-I’m old) with the same delivery. Is it worth trying to fix it with lower hands at impact or bending the clubs or don’t bother? For Mizuno it's standard length and 2 degrees Upright 👍🏻

    Smaller, more forgiving but slightly less hot out the middle. Hard to not pick 245 but some of us prefer the comfort of a cavity back.

      What do you mean by comfort

      @@JDDD33 Cavity back looks more forgiving while the 245 looks like a blade.

      Imo the forged feels better, I have hit both and I can tell the longer irons with tungsten feels firm and clicky compared to the forged. Also the forged seems to be more forgiving and better feel. Best of both worlds. But both great irons

    Seems like the biggest difference is aesthetics - whatever brings the biggest smile to the player!

      Yep that can go both ways, as some like clean looks where others, like more busy looks. That's the beauty of being human.... We, are all different 👍🏻👍🏻

    7 iron only spinning high 4000s? Is it the Mizuno ball doing this?

    Jay these mizuno irons are actually 1/4 inch longer than what Mizuno was just a couple releases ago.
    This business of fudged lots and length starts to be a bit much to be honest. These manufacturers are going to such length to get another 7 yards at best while impacting spin, trajectory and for me the most important which is feel to a degree that now just comes across as pure marketing.
    I just realized today- more like accepted it in my mind - that all I have to do is get my old Mizuno blades out of the basement and hit my 6 iron instead of trying to force a modern 7 iron to the distance I want.
    Such BS.
    Forgiveness is something i welcome but distance…Enough.

    Coming from the older MX-20 I'm searching for an updated Mizuno iron to replace them. I really don't know which of these two models I should be playing. Handicap currently is a 12-15.

      Hi there, any equipment choice should never be bought on banding of handicap due to the individual nature of how each golfer comprises their strengths and weaknesses within their game. I did a video explaining how golfers of different needs regardless of handicap need to check off to see what type of iron they need. Take a look at the below and hopefully that'll show you what strengths you want in an iron choice to help you on your decision 👍🏻

      I’ve used the Jp’s-921 forged, and prior was a set of Mx-20s. I do miss the top line of the Mx-20s.

    My 245’s should be sent from the U.S. within the next 48 hours - fingers crossed. Fitted for a different shaft than what I was playing in my Mizuno 923 forged. Both beautiful irons but then me being the worlds biggest tinkerer installed the axiom 105’s. Hoping for even more added forgiveness but then to get the weight right they were installed to play half an inch longer. Ok for a while but then it started to get in between my ears too much. So I’ll be able to let everyone know how I get on in a few weeks.
    Talk about keeping the golfing economy ticking over!!
