    As a Tiger fan, I think the "beef" is only positive. If anything I feel like it really pushes the other one to do better and I see these two as two top class players that both want to win and hold each other accountable, as opposed to a Jeter ARod situation

    • @MrBudcole
      @MrBudcole ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One of my professional colleagues spent a few years in the Tiger's organization during the Dombrowski era. When Scherzer left Detroit, he told me that it was largely because of how much Max RESENTED Verlander being referred to as the Tiger's "ACE". It really bothered him, as Max has always been highly competitive. Egos tend to soften with age, so let's hope they are well beyond that pettiness. I believe they both are - maybe Max to a lesser extent. He's widely known for his competitive disposition, and frequent unpleasantness, especially when things are not going as smoothly as he would like.

    I honestly don’t see this becoming a problem for the Mets during the season. Verlander and scherzer are 2 of the best pitchers of all time and are both great leaders/ teammates. Plus seeing how verlander signed with the Mets, tells me he’s either over it or knows he can manage playing with max again. If they had a huge problem, Justin probably would’ve signed elsewhere.
    Btw them going at each other in Detroit, I doubt will happen in NY. In Detroit they were both in their twenties trynna prove that they are the best pitcher in the game. Now they in their late 30’s/entering 40, have both won multiple cy youngs and plenty other awards. Both have also won a World Series. Which they didn’t achieve in Detroit. I gotta go take a poop.
    Btw I wrote this message 1 min into the video. Before I even got to part where Italks mentions how they’ve changed.

    Verlander was Detroits big money pitcher, so much that they wouldn't be able to spend big on Scherzer; they in essence chose V. And even as Scherzer was becoming the better pitcher, Verlander was "the face of the franchise" and got opening day bid, commercials, etc. It was never blatant but I always suspected there was a rivalry. And Scherzer celebrated BIG TIME when Porcello won the Cy Young over Verlander.

    • @ezioaltairac
      @ezioaltairac ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Ilitch definitely could. The problem was that he held public grudges against players who wanted to test free agency. He did this to Scherzer, who Boras later admitted could’ve gotten $40 million more frontloaded from Detroit. More famously around Detroit however, he did this to Sergei Federov, a longtime Red Wing who is both a repeat SC champion and a Hall-of-Famer. Federov couldn’t and still can’t even get his number retired with the Wings because of his salary demands in the early 2000s.
