The EXACT Golf Ball Position You Need To Pivot (Stance Placement That WORKS!)

  • If you are looking to get a more open impact position, keep in mind your golf ball position as it could be restricting your pivot through the shot! In this video, Henry and I explore a common flaw we find with amateur golfers having their golf ball placement too far back in their stance. This can limit our turn and rotation and result in more of a stall, extend and flip/scoop at the ball. We'll show you the correct way to align the ball in your stance for a more rotational golf swing. We hope you enjoy!

    Great video.. After a break I just started playing again last month. I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get comfortable behind the ball and felt like I was getting stuck. This was exactly my problem. I honestly feel like I see a lot of people doing this (not good ball strikers) and they’re taught this incorrectly. Great coaching and thanks!

    Great vid...
    If you are right handed but left eye dominant, and tend to have the ball back in your stance, you have placed yourself in a disadvantageous position. You will feel uncomfortable over the ball, have difficulty starting the takeaway, and not attain the sensation of being in the proper position at impact. From experience........and this video confirms my suspicions.
    This vid also makes me realize you must maintain your posture to get back to the ball when properly positioned. And as you say, ball back too far encourages the standing up.
    There is a lot of "wondering" when practicing.....and videos like this remove the uncertainty and confirm the proper thoughts,. THANKS!

    I have been playing the 7 iron in the middle and moving 8 back a ball and 6 forward a ball etc. i believe that was pretty commonly taught years ago.
    A touring pro told me that was wrong and i should play irons beneath my left ear and move my right leg only to change position for each iron.
    I tried this today and picked up speed and accuracy but did not get the piercing launch i would like.
    Thanks for this video. It explains things a little better but i think i have to watch a couple more times to make sure. I tend to over complicate and wonder about the low point being in front etc. anyway more speed is probably due to a freed up pivot i guess. I am making the change. Ball strike seems unaffected.
    Thanks again.

      I'd have to see your swing Bruce to offer the best feedback as to the launch window you are getting, but as for ball position, I tend to see ams have it too far back.

    Great video, thank you. I’m having issues with how close or far to stand from the ball- if I get in what I think is a good impact position (good rotation, side bend snd shaft lean) I want the ball really pretty close to me, but at set up it’s hard to be that close to it. I sure don’t want to set up with the ball on the hosel…

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of great players actually do set the club up towards the heel so they can loop it back inside and create space on the downswing, a la Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott.

      @@MiloLinesGolf wow, thank you for the info. I’ve never really thought of myself as a great player, but… OK, so many jokes I could make there- people are always saying I swing like Adam Scott etc. But seriously, that does help- thanks

    My question. I agree that moving the ball way up is a good drill to cover the ball well. However I find the ball flight is quite high. What thought would you have to getting a mid flighted trajectory with ball way up in stance (say around left heel as a drill)?

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Trail wrist angle/extension, flex/bend of the body, and rotation w/ good sequence to create more dynamic impact with shaft lean.

    I have a cross dominate eye. Dominant eye is left, but right handed. Should I play the ball even more forward.

    I'd like so see a face on and DTL impact freeze frame overlay of Milo hitting a full sand wedge (shortest iron) and 5 iron (longest iron) to see hand ball positions. Thanks.

  • @steveperry1344
    @steveperry1344 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think i tend to have my iron shots too far back because i tend to stall my turn coming down and block shots out to the right like you were showing, gonna work on it, thnx guys.

    This video is actually a very good demonstration of camera distortion of the ball position relative to the feet due to incorrect setup of the camera. If the camera had been setup correctly to show ball position the alignment stick perpendicular to the target line would appear vertical (parallel to the sides of the screen). However, the alignment stick in the video appears to slope slightly towards the target indicating the camera lens is setup a few ball diameters towards to target instead of on the line of the alignment stick. This means that when you look at the video the ball appears further back in the stance than the alignment stick shows it actually is. My observation of golfers videoing their swings is they are generally not aware that camera lens position has a significant influence on how they appear in a video of their swing.

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure can have an effect on analysis, but I look at good movement and we weren't focusing primarily on the alignment sticks in this video, but rather ball relationship to our center and discussing the effect certain ball positions can have.

    What do you think of Ben Hogan's method: fixed ball position about two inches off left heel for every shot and adjusting the width of stance for length of each club?

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pretty much right in line with what we showed here, I just prefer relate it to the upper center as that is our true middle and width of stance and alignment can make things deceiving. I've often times referred to his ball position chart though, it's good.

      @@MiloLinesGolf Great video. Milo: to clarify based on Gordon's question -- you prefer a fixed ball position while adjusting the width of the stance based on club? (I think I'm using the same grips as you have on the club in the video. Lamkins with reduced taper, right?

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Sonar+ midsize with a few wraps. Not necessarily fixed on ball position, but I don't move it much typically. Maybe a bit back for a draw, and slightly up for my fade with longer clubs.

    The ball @6:31 swing is very forward. Then he talks about putting it in the driver position. The first ball position was border line driver position wasn’t it ? I understand the low point is our shoulder.

    This is explaining my recent blocks after moving my ball back to make sure I got a downward strike. Conversely, I've found that when I have to elevate over trees, I move the ball forward and tend to hit my best shots. Also, it looks like you're in the shade of some giant Martian war machine - don't think my wife will let me buy one of those for our deck where I set up my golf net.

    I think rear eye dominant players tend to want the dominant eye over the ball at impact, hence the ball position further back. The opposite for front eye dominant players. 90% of the population is rear eye dominant so that might explain why so many of us suck! 🤣🤣🤣
