My Dad told me not to wear the Raiders sweater, much less the Raiders underwear, sox and shoes! Grown men assaulted me on the way in the Dome, and literally flicked cigarettes and pizza boxes at me the entire game. It was scary.
This was my first time ever attending a NFL game, I was 11 years old. Amazingly, my father who was the Personel Director at the Super Dome was able to get me a seat on the field behind the end zone. Excited as I was to actually be so close to the field that night, I was also a little intimidated because MY GOD! the hitting and the contact was so hard, physical, and loud I couldn't believe that I was actually witnessing it all. But unfortunately, ABC and the NFL camera people managed to keep me out of any camera shots throughout this entire historic event, especially when Cliff Branch scored that long touchdown running down the sideline which it seemed like he was running straight towards me.
New Orleans blew it again. Muncie had a drug problem. One of the best Monday night games ever. Even though I always hated the Raiders. Hard to believe Ken Stabler would end his career with the Saints.
Yes, it was. The snake always said the game is not over to it’s over and in the second half Tom Floyd’s bench, the snake was going to put Jim Plunkett in the second half of the game Stabler went out on the field and told Jim Plunkett to go back and the snake took over the game and won it

I’m not a Saints fan, but I’d wager this ballgame has gone down as one of the franchise’s toughest defeats. Probably cost them a playoff berth. One of the Raiders great comebacks though. On a different note, so to speak, Al Hirt’s rendition of the national anthem is magnificent.
It was worse than a "tough " defeat. It sent the entire Gulf Coast into a funk, which never really ended until Archie Manning's son threw a Saint touchdown to Tracey Porter 30 years later.
Men under the age of 40 can't really understand this type of manly, hard-hitting football. They have grown up in modern society and have been taught that hard hitting is "bad". Just look at the toughness, grit, and masculinity that exudes from the players on every play. Then watch a game in 2023. It's like night and day. We played tough like this, even in pop-warner, junior high, and high school football. ...Today's football is not a "man's" game.
I remember this game well, i was 15 at the time, The TD pass from Stabler to Branch down the sideline was the play ill always remember.
Stabler throws winning TD and then chats with Jimmy Buffet on sidelines. 😂 I love the 70’s.
