  • While doing my regular browsing of Marketplace I came across a very modestly priced 1979 Firebird that had been LS swapped. After talking to the owner, I knew it was a bit off a cobbled up project but after some cleaning it really isn't that bad. If you'd like to own the car as shown in this video it can be yours for $5,500. As always, thanks for watching!

Wow well Mortske, I couldn’t finish this one. No I wasnt entertained, actually I was disappointed in your presentation. It was minute after minute of you trying to make the previous owner look like a hack mechanic and fool. First off you need to remember MANY people out there dont have the deep pockets, resources, and knowledge you have. I’m not condoning sketchy builds or dangerous operation. But it seems your direction and purpose here was to humiliate the person(s) who put it together. I would have expected you to show ideas and how to run numbers to identify the LS series engine and the performance level it is. Also swap ideas and options, THAT I would have found entertaining. This was not a good video from you, remember your the same guy who reuses head gaskets and mix matches parts to make unsafe junk run up and down the road, that could be very dangerous to the public to which you share the roads you drive on. Then you make an entire video to showcase a lesser quality build thats not up to your standards. Yes many things are wrong and questionable, but what if these people were watching YOUR videos to learn?? I know many many people who started out doing what they could with what they had and over time it gets better with bigger budgets and more knowledge some of which they get from videos on the TH-cam……Dude seriously not a fan of this video, you have more class than this Mortske cmon.

The hackery on this car is damn near artistic, I'm betting the builder thought the alternator thru the hood was cool because he could tell folks it's a turbo...all this build needs is a gas powered leaf blower zip tied to the hood for a forced air induction!!

When you wire the fans to key power, they will generate power when you shut the car off and they wind down. That’s why the engine doesn’t shut off right away. It’s trying to run on the power generated by the fans.

this car epitomizes "crude, but effective" (mostly crude) in that it actually starts and moves (barely) under its own power. Yeah there are a TON of areas for improvement (pre Mortske) but, still it actually started and ran.... which is higher class than the usual "stuff" that Mort tries to get cobbled together enough to run as well as this did right at the start..... that said, the dude that built it seriously needs to up his game for round 2

Excellent point on that TTotD. My old man was doing some welding. We ended up having lunch at the shop that day - and good thing! "Anybody smell smoke?" One of the benches in the back of the shop was smoldering and by the time I came in one leg was in flames. Scrambled for the hose and put it out. No damage, but it definitely makes you think about what could've happened.

vehicle justice by creating a very nice resto mod out of it. But, since you do not seem to like Trans Am....I would say, just pass it on. Sadly, it's potential will never be realized.

The oil catch cans are useful on modern direct injection turbo engines. This mitigates the build up of coking deposits on the back side of the intake valves by filtering the blow by gases through the catch can first which are then recirculated into the intake runner. Deposits to the back side of the intake valves from the recirculated crank case gases is a major issue with direct injection gasoline engines.

Most things to look for on a LS swapped vehicle is the Fuel system verify the tanks using the proper PSI pump and runs a filter before the pump... Look for the transmission electrical harness too. f they bypassed it you have to plugin the OBD port and verify it has been disabled along with the checking its RPM Limiter I am bettin he has the Limiter set prob to its default still... Hence the reason its surges and revs Up & Down sparatically under heavy acceleration... Always check the electrical grounds.. Verify it has at least 2 gauge min on all of the cables... As you said one neg to the battery to the engine one small one to a steel inner fender of back to firewall an engine ground from head or intake to firewall too... You dont always need engine to frame ground too unless it is running a aftermarket ECU & ignition kit.. Edelbrocks Etc... Last thing I would check is to make sure they haven't tinkered with injectors and if they have it will need to have the ECU flashed for more PSI and possibly Fuel flow GPM's.... Make very sure the ECU is gettin a tach signal so it knows when it has to hit its shift points and knows its rev limiter limits... I have done a few LS swaps in different vehicles over the yrs & wanted to pass that on to ya Mortske Man... Take er easy.... "Cracks open a sammch"

I recently acquired a 64 fairlane and immediately re-did the electrical under the hood - I found 171 zip ties under the hood. I used split nylon wiring loom wrapped with heat/abrasion resistant tape, and have just six zip ties now.

I owned two 1979 10th anniversaries. Sold both in eBay. 😢 I wish I could afford one again. I've done a LS1 in a 86 Trans Am I also sold on eBay. As soon as i saw it with the front wheels, the Trans Am fenders, wheel flares, and the interior door panels - I had flash backs. Note this wasn't a "ram air" car. The 6.6L came factory with the shaker hood. And I'm doing a 5.3 in my 87 Trans Am now. This is so awesome to see. Mortske please sell me this on the low 🥹 I just want the body.

About 40 years ago I found a 69 mgc that had the interior burnt out of it and sitting in the wrecking yard for 15 years, I dropped a Buick V6 and a turbo 350 with a stage 2 shift kit into it. Found out I had to have the rear axle shafts turn down to add Flex because I kept ripping the splines off the shaft and blowing up the spider gears, that's why you can't find any more of those parts because I use them all. I had found a four-barrel Quadrajet intake laying on the ground in the wrecking yard and build a two and a quarter inch wraparound exhaust system so I wouldn't have to cut into the car itself . For the drive shaft I used a double Cardinal U-joint out of a station wagon, shortened it and build a adapter plate to bolt on to the rear end itself so I didn't have to worry about the angle of the shaft. All this to say I'm sure we all have ghosts in our closet .

I'm with you put some floor pans in it hell put that hood back on it that was the best part I'd probably throw some square tubing in there enough to where I could open it up stepping it up a little bit maybe put some round bar around it so it'll hold in shape looks like it needed some outer rockers on it I find me a couple used seats those new seat covers over the front same color just fix the odds and ends on it that's a nice little car something fun for the weekends maybe a car show

That oil pan looks like an LH8 Hummer H3 unit. Those are shorter than the factory truck pans and are commonly used in GMT400 or squarebody swaps. The bell housing on the H3 trans is different than other 4L60s, hence the mismatched oil pan bolt.
