Chris makes a kind of confusing flip flop around the 12:30 mark. He specifies that you should not try to mix genres. He has a slide with two semi's and a person balanced between them, and tells us to pick a genre and stick with it, Then, a few slides later, he says he loves mixing genres and we should do that. That's... really confusing. He is contradicting himself.

To make a game you should mix gentes, when selling a game you should not mix genres.

If you are mixing genres you need to tell players exactly what your genre is. Don't make a souls-like / platformer and then market it as just a souls-like- or just a platformer. If it's gonna be a soulslike platformer you tell people it's a soulslike platformer. And be aware that by mixing genres you might be excluding people who are looking for a more pure experience of one genre or the other.
