Thanks for the video. I have a 98 F150 and saw your video which was great. I used a flashlight and mirror to remove the defective resistor. Mine had melted the wiring and I had to order the wiring harness too. To help hold it in place when putting the new resistor pack back in I used a small piece of electrical tape to keep it stuck in place.
Awesome. I am a girlie and fixed this 15 minutes. Worst part was finding short ratchet/ screwdriver thing for 8mm screw head. But found that in my curtain hanging kit. Then second issue was getting head under dash but fixed that by using my makeup mirror. Placed makeup mirror under dash instead if my head. All good. Working perfect now.
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!!!! Went to have shops fix my heating problem and they were telling me 90$ for diagnostic, several hours for labor, and $140 for part!! I decided NO WAY I couldn't afford it but I needed heat for my 5 children because it is -10 degrees. So I searched for issues and ran across your video! The part cost me $21.32 and took me 10 minutes to put it in!! THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU for EMPOWERING me and others to save ourselves and children from potential frostbite, pneumonia, ect. You ARE AMAZING!!!!
You sir, are my new hero. Had this exact problem (fan working only on high setting). Replaced the resistor as per your video, working like a champ now! Ask your wife to yell "Yay, my husband fixed a total stranger on the internet's truck!" Thank you!
A very good instructional video. After a year or three of putting up with the high setting only, my fan works again !! I thank you, my passengers thank you and especially my number one passenger, the lovely bride of 37 years, thanks' you..
@chuckv5150, go with the cheapest options first. Fuse, Resisitor, Switch Panel, Blower, in that order. If switch is gummed up, that may be a cheaper fix than resistor. Blower should still work on full speed despite having a bad resistor. The only function of the resistor is to allow you to run your blower at lower speeds by increasing the load on the ciruit. I imagine there may be a way to bypass the resistor to verify motor/fuse functionality, but not off the top of my head.
Hey, thanks so much!!! Just changed my blower resistor and it works percectly!!! Would have never been able to do it without your video!! Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately mine was rusted so bad (2000 Expedition) I will have to replace the whole wire because one of the prongs was rusted inside. I believe it is $27 from Ford. Wish me luck.
Will replace my resistor on my F-150 tomorrow to start the new year off right and this video really clears up a lot of questions that's going to help with the installation. Thanks a lot.
Perfect. Worked on replacing mine on my 2001 F-150. I don't know why other videos said to drop the glove box. It was a tight squeeze getting lined up, but once I had the 8mm socket on it, It went quickly. 10-15 min start to finish. Thanks for sharing!
My 1999 Ford F150 truck has the resistor in the same place. Your post was the only one that I saw that showed the resistor in the correct location. Other videos showed the resistor by lowering the glove box- no luck on my 1999 F150. Another showed the fan in the engine compartment. Thanks for posting the resistor in the correct location and it is a bugger to look at especially when you are 70 years old, fat and wear glasses. Thanks again
Excellent video, this helped me out immensely with my own blower motor resistor replacement. Loved the work at the end with the multimeter, demonstrating the test and the results! Thanks for sharing this helpful bit.
Thanks for this video !! I had the same issue. It would run at speed 3 and high. Then just yesterday ,... only on high. You're video was accurate and to the point. Cost $34 w/ tax to replace and now it works just fine at all speeds. Again ... Thank you.
If the front motor makes no sound on any setting (Hi/Med/Low), then the fuse, switch, or motor are suspects. If it works on the hi setting, but not the others, then it is likely the blower motor resistor. It is easy enough to remove and inspect, just to be sure. If it is corroded, replace. If not, continue troubleshooting. Good luck.
Hey, thanks for the super informative video! I have an '01 F150 and thought I would have to take it in to get this fixed. After watching the video I went out, looked under the dash and found the resistor. I just ordered the part at my local parts store and hope to have this fixed by the end of the day. Nice work!
Thank you for the awesome video and information! It is really interesting to learn about the AC resistor's functions. Replaced the resistor and now front AC blows cold air. Ready for summer! Thank you!!!
This doesn't sound like the resistor, although you can easily pull it and take resistance measurements to verify (this step is at the rear of the video). Could be the switch or ECS.
Thanks for this video. I needed to replace it on my 1999 F150 which is basically the same vehicle. I knew I had to replace the Blower Resistor since my fan ONLY worked on "HIGH" but this helped me see exactly where it is. Oh...and your wife sounds like mine only more annoying LOL,
Hi Arrby--great tutorial. Need to ask you--on my 99 Ford E-150 the lower speeds on the blower motor don't work--so I checked the hi voltage fuse and it was good. Next, I replaced the blower motor resistor, and still no lower speeds. Now I replaced the blower motor switch itself in the dashboard--and the slower speeds still do not work. What should I check next?
having the same issue in my 99 f150, exact layout (go figure they're the exact same besides more seating instead of a truck bed) planning on doing this fix in a day or two (ordered the resistor online since my local dealer wanted $48...)
I also have a 2000 ford expedition. What if it's the back ac control unit that's not working properly, is it the same motor resistor you change or is it a different one? Thanks for the video.
Hi Thanks for the nice video. My front blower does not work on my 2005 Ford Econoline. However, my back blower works. I am only getting a trickle of cold air from the front ducts but normal cold air flow from the back vents. Would it be the blower resistor or the blower that is faulty? I am not sure how to test either.
I have an expedition exactly like yours, color and everything. Mine seems to be blowing but not enough. Could it be the blower motor is too old and needs a new one? Thanks for the video.
Could be the motor, could also be a blockage somewhere, hard to say without taking things apart. Notice any differences in the sounds? Is it weak on all settings?
My blower is completely dead. It used to work sporatically but now is completely dead. Would this be the cause or might it be something completely different, like a fuse (hopefully).
Thanks for watching. Still sounds like the blower motor resistor. Pull the new resistor and measure the resistance settings to verify you didn't get a defective one.
my issue is my heat doesnt blow on the front panel, but it will blow on window defrost area and the back 2003 expediton eb will i still go under the glove box to find the conectors?
on my truck the ac is messed up idk what is wrong with it, but wen i turn it on the front does not blow any air but at the back it does. can it be the controls leak or something? please help
+Coco Salas , sounds like your front motor may be out. Check fuses and inspect your resistor to be sure. The controls of the front are independent of those in the back. (the controls in the back are somewhat dependent on the control in the front)
I understand the BMR is a factor for all but High speeds. If it doesn’t work on High, chances are it is the switch or the fan. Still, I’d pull out your resistor and visually inspect it and measure the resistance.
Thanks - same part as my 2001 F150 truck. Note that you can barley see the part with head under the glove box. I used 1/4 drive ratchet and deep 8mm socket - there is very little room to work or see. I also removed the "heat" shield from the bottom of the air box (7mm) to get access. My resistor was all rusted up - must be a NE thing since it worked fine in TX for about 10 years.
my ac on my 2001 expedition blows cool out the front but when i turn on the rear ac also then it start to come out coldin the front. the rear is always cold .what could be the problem or is it low on freon.also my power driver seat just stop working and its stuck up close(thanks to my wife)do you know how to fix that..please help any advise would be appreciated
Well, I replaced both my blower motor resister AND my blower motor last weekend. It worked great for the week, but today is stopped working again. I stopped the car for about an hour and started it up again - now it's working again. It is not overheating or giving any indication that the compressor is malfunctioning (it's certainly working when it is) and the a/c is very cold. I've had a ground wire that intermittently lost connection (loose) do a similar thing. Anyone else experienced such a thing?
Bill Martin , I didn't experience this with my Expedition. It sound like a wiring and/or switch issue. (My son's Jeep did something similar to this recently. It was the fan switch. I suppose it could be either the fan switch or the environment control switch. (He swapped out the whole switch assembly). Good luck!
The next thing I was going to try was the Cylinder Head Temperature sensor. I hate to keep playing around with this, and when the a/c's "on" it's blastedly cold, but I spend a lot of time in this truck and I'd like it to work! Anyone else with any ideas?
Good vid. I am trying to find a vid that shows me how to remove the panel to see if there is an obstruction with the blower on my 1999 Expedition. I can hear it blowing fine, but the air barely comes out of the vents. I will continue to search, but in case I don't find anything, can you tell me the troubleshooting steps I should follow? I know nothing of mechanical stuff, but I am trying it out on my own before taking it to a mechanic. - Dave
I replaced mine today with a Dorman part #973015 (looks just like the one in the video) for $13.83 shipped to my house from rockauto(dot)com . I think these just rust from moisture getting into the fan box. I am told by my mechanic neighbor that the expeditions and F-150s are notorious for leaking around the dash area.
lol. thanks man having the same problem will go to auto store in morning and fix it. lmao your wife thought....hey have you had a clicking noise when to switch to A/c or def.?

Thanks so much, this worked great! Note that you need a pretty short screwdriver to fit between the floorboard and where the blower resistor is.

Had to go buy the part and a ratchet extension to reach up under the dash but I got it done. Thanks for the again for the video!
Going to try this on my 98, probably the same set up. Appreciate it!

Excellent! Thanks for letting us know.
For a year I just ran it on high, seeing it was the only working setting. But now they all work, easy fix. Thx for the video ,really helps

hey man i just watched ur video cuz i had the same prob must say although my expi is an 05 it was a great deal of help thanks.
I just had this problem, but thanks to this video, I no longer have it. Thanks for posting this!!! :)
Awesome! finally someone that showed the entire process! NICE WORK!
Also works on the 2001 F150. Thank you for this video
awesome detail. my wife said the same thing after i fixed mine. Thanks for the help.

$23 @ advance auto, easy solution to a problem we've been dealing with for months, Thanks
Wife all the same ... lol thanks for your video 👍👍👍
Excellent! Good luck and glad I could help.
what if the fan is not working at all at any speed, would that mean the fan motor is out?
+Toto Babu, sorry for the late reply, but possibly that motor is out. Check fuses and inspect your resistor to be sure.
Would this work if the fan doesn't blow at all? I get nothing up front but I get air in the back of the cabin
