The 2880p mode for desktop use for increased screen space and sharper text and the 1440p mode for gaming because most gpus can't really render games at 2880p high/ultra and high fps. Worth noting that LG WOLEDs for 2024 with GS in the name feature LGs new MLA+ WOLED panels with META 2.0 technology, giving them typical SDR brightness of 275 nits. This seems a decent step up from the sub 200 nits performance of LGs previous 2023 GR models.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Which is virtually useless except for brightness chasers. I barely use my VA panel at 10-20% brightness, and it's 300 nit. That's barely 60 nits in regular usage. At most on a bright day I might use 50%, which is still just 150 nits. So 200 nits is more than enough. Same applies for night, where I wouldn't even dream of wanting high nits, because then you just get flashbanged by every bright scene. In a way I'm glad people complain about the brightness, because it means I can get the lower brightness monitors for discounted prices because no one thinks they want them because of everyone spreading this brightness chasing disease. 300 nits is really all a person needs for bright HDR content, which every one of these monitors can achieve on the highlights, because almost no scene is going to be mostly full white. Even if you had a scene where you had the bottom half of the image being black and the top half being pure white, virtually all OLEDs can display that at 300 nits or higher, which means a more realistic scene is going to be even brighter, closer to 400-600 nits at the very least.

      @@theSato SDR doesn't need more than 200 nits. Most people turn up their IPS monitors because the brightness counteracts IPS glow by making their pupils shrink from the brightness, making everything look darker, so by proxy the darker areas look darker in comparison to the bright areas. All OLEDs do about 600-1000 nits peak brightness on HDR, which is bright, and brighter than even most IPS screens.

    To get the most out of monitors with refresh rates of 480 Hz, 240 Hz, or 144 Hz, your PC needs to be capable of generating frames at the same rates, that is, 480 fps, 240 fps, or 144 fps, respectively. While a 144 Hz display will still look good, to achieve the best native performance, matching the frame rate to the refresh rate is essential. Otherwise, you won't experience the full potential of the higher refresh rates, and it might not make much sense to invest in them unless your system can keep up.

      It's because of the QD-OLED layering, it doesn't have a polarizer so the Quantum Dots get stimulated causing a purple-ish effect on what's supposed to be dark/black spots of the image, also happens when the display is off.

      SRGB and DCI p3 are "color spaces".
      Think of it as the colors on a painters pallette. A wider color space means it can display a wider variety of colors.
      So a wider color space can produces more vibrant and bright colors.
      The window sizes refer to how much of the screen is lit up.
      So a 2% window size is a small highlight taking up about 1/50th of the screen. 50% takes up half
      Generally the bigger the window the lower the brightness. LCDs can usually push more full screen brightness than OLED or QD OLED
      WRGB has a white subpixel that also helps with full screen brightness since that's a weakness.

It seems to me that displaying RGB with the white subpixel would easily increase the brightness of white things, but for some reason WOLED only wants to use the white subpixel. I could see how this would increase the lifespan of RGB subpixels, but my guess is the real reason why is because the RGB subpixels don't exactly match the same white point of the white subpixel, and that's why they avoid displaying all of them at the same time unless you want to display a non white shade.

      I was using a Samsung Odyssey G7 for some time which had an extreme curve of 1000R (that is way more curved then this with 1700R) and I really liked it for games and even other media, the first 3-4 days I actually disliked it, but after I got used to it, I noticed that it really helped with immersion, you get the feeling of looking at the objects itself rather then the display for some degree atleast, which was very apparent when swapping back to a flat display.
      The biggest downside is that it defnitely slightly distorts objects, which is absolutely not a problem for entertainment media (you still perceive flat lines as flat etc. just not perfectly flat), but as soon as you need to do something on the monitor where you need forms to be actually precise, the monitor becomes instantly unusable.
      Sidenote: For people that think that curved displays are not suited for competitive FPS. At the time I was using the 1000R display, was the first time I've managed to get Rank 10 on FACEIT (CSGO) and am still since then. I did peak on my current 360Hz display tho, but that is not because of the display but I generally improved. I would say curve or not curved is negilible for competitive gaming, from a performance PoV, the other display metrics matter more (Motion Blur > Refresh Rate btw. there are monitors that outperform higher refresh ones just simply due to better pixel response times or backlight strobing techniques.

    Pronunciation tip: "Triangular" has a G not a J and "owl" rhymes with "foul", not "bowl". Great comparison, your channel is in my top 10. You're the only reviewer who has mentioned that the LG has a peak brightness mode, which makes a huge difference for normal game/movie scenes, as can boost the brightness by up to 40 percent compared to a QD-OLED! Most people think OLEDs are too dim (I agree), but this feature makes me seriously consider this new WOLED.

    The ambient light reflection issue on the QD-OLED panels is very real. In a normally lit room, the quantum dot layer is clearly visible, making blacks look not much better than those on an IPS panel. It's that bad. The panel is also difficult to clean - mist a clean, soft microfiber cloth with eyeglasses cleaner to remove fingerprints. Distilled water just spreads the finger grease around, making it nearly impossible to remove.

    WOLED monitor 100%
    QD OLED have raised blacks in anything but a dark room. It doesn't even need to be a really bright room, average lit room will raise blacks. Defeating the purpose of OLED.
    That's before we even get the semi glossy cheap plastic coating they use on the QD OLED monitors. Absolute horrible coating which micro scratches after 1 cleaning w/ a brand new microfiber. Got a smudge on it or some spit splatters? Be prepared to be cleaning it for 30 minutes to get it off & by the time you're done, micro scratches.
