    Thanks for the realistic outlook on everything. Recruiters definitely try to tell you what you want to hear and make everything seem glamorous to get you to join, but clearly that isn’t always true. But without those people who chop paint, repaint, etc. our navy wouldn’t be the navy it is today. Everyone plays a role in keeping the vessels up and running and in proper maintenance. So thank you!

    I loved the Navy! Just pick a rate. Know what your job is when you sign the dotted line. I never painted anything, except if it was on my easel. It was an incredible quality of life, for me personally. Hospital Corpsman 1990-1994

      Shit experience with AF recruiters too. Just had a AF recruiter waste a month of my time, then when I call to schedule an appointment she says she just got back from vacation, and when I want to make an appointment for next week she says she won't be in at all that week.. after wasting a month. Just frustrating, and I'm held back and delayed because Meps refuses to acknowledge paperwork saying I have NO heart murmur, multiple tests saying I'm negative for it but they still either lose my paperwork, or send it back saying it's "too light and unreadable". I lost over 100 pounds to join and got an 87 on my asvab and they treat me like I'm a druggie with a criminal history and put barely any time trying to help me get in. Meanwhile, a fucking navy recruiter pulled up and stopped me on the sidewalk to ask if I was interested in joining... lol and was ready to send me to meps later in the week. Sucks because I'd rather go Air Force but damn, navy recruiters are UNDOUBTEDLY > Air Force recruiters.

    Definitely more into the academic side. Hope I will be able to not get depressed over it if I join. I hope it's a good experience for me. I don't want to go into the military as a career (maybe I will in the future, who knows) but one of the main reasons is because I need help with paying for college, want to travel, and become a stronger, healthier person; both mentally and physically. Some people may say, why don't I just work out then, well I do and it's no different and there's more factors to me wanting to join the military. Plus I am not a highly motivated person unless I have to do things.
    Thank you for your videos, as a HS Senior it really helps!!

    I had it good when I was in the Navy. My recruiter hooked me up with E2 going in Oct92, graduated E3 out of boot camp. Frocked PO3 April 94, Frocked to PO2 April 95. Was happy at PO2 but Navy had other plans for me and was frocked to PO1 November 99. I only scored a 52 on the Navy Wide exam. I never once had galley duty, closest I came was mess deck master at arms onboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). I had a great tour. Highest awarded medal was a Navy Commendation received as a PO2. My top 3 medals were, COM-JSAM-2 NAM's. EOT 10yrs 2months 1day Dec 2002. Found a Federal job and didn't loose my time in service. I am racking up my Federal Pension. Good times and lots of memories while I was AD.

I'm proud of my Decision to enlist in the USAF. I'm just really anxious and ready to take on my journey and you give me so much inspiration. Not everybody in the Navy receives high level academic training. Keep in mind that the Navy needs cooks and other blue collar type workers too. My brother was Air Force police. He hated it. He spent his days guarding a gate in Italy. It sucked so badly he got out after only 2 years. I went to his discharge with him. I was shocked to see the colonel just let him out that easily. Apparently they had guys lining up to join. On the other hand the Navy often makes it hard to just leave. I had buddies that wanted out of the Navy right away. They did things to speed it up like smoking pot. But they ended up in Navy jail for 6 months before being discharged.... no thanks ...

    I gotta say that what you said was pretty much spot on. When you're a E-3 or below, you are going to get the shit jobs. Some has perks like washing planes on a hot day. But if you don't want to chip paint all day, you should study for your rate exam to go up in rank. At least as a E-4, you won't have to chip paint. You'll just be in charge of that working party.

      +Michael Hernandez Hm... I am not very well familiar with this topic. Here is what I have heard so far. Aviation industry in the Navy? I hear that Aviation personnel work long hours, stressed, and get promoted well. Coast Guard? I heard they have long deployments also (some longer than Navy 9 months). I heard Coast Guard has great living conditions while not on deployments or working. I am not sure if these statements are true. Air Force? Better person to know about Air Force life is Kyle Gott and WildBlueYonder. From what I heard, Air Force has great living conditions than Navy.

      Scucci Mane on our ship each department had to send a set number of people to special opps division. They helped the cooks. painted officers berthing and chiefs berthing. Also helped clean and paint the sickbay. Detail lasted 3 months. But if you had a small department you could keep going back I did 4 times until I made E3. That was in 1970 and back then we were given filter masks when chipping paint .

    Those guys that spent their entire 4 year enlistment doing maintenance work had to be seaman without job ratings. Also they probably never made a decent rank. On my ships E4 and above rarely did that maintenance stuff. If they did, it was for a few hours when they didn't have anything else to do. According to my Air force brother, they are the easiest branch. Very little running, shooting, no cleaning up, etc. However making rank is slow in the Air Force. He never got past E3. He was shocked to see me make E4 in two years. My supervisor made E6 is 4 years when I was in. This never happens in the Air Force.

      Join the Air Force, be careful what job you choose, no maintenance or security forces, if you like to fly a loadmaster would be good, you get flight pay all the time and if your single you get lots and lots of money, if you like medical field go EMT lots of good opportunities for you and you don’t get treated like shit, Do your research and do lots of research for each branch and job.

      +Davied Stevens For example the way I memorized it was like this. To take charge of this post, THEN, to walk my post, THEN, to report any violations, THEN, to repeat all calls, THEN, to quit my post and so on. So it goes like in a story order. I took charge of this post. Then I walked my post. I report any violations. I will also repeat all calls. Finally I will quit my post.

      @moldyrefrigerator 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can’t be an E3 for 10 years. 10 year is the MAXIMUM amount you can be an E4 before they kick you.
      Also E6 at 13 years is very normal. He’d likely put on E7 before 20 years and most people retire at E7. Only 2% of all Air Force enlisted are allowed to be E8. Only 1% of all Air Force enlisted are allowed to be E9. So most Airmen will finish their 20 years at E7...

      sam love good luck. Think through it, you are signing away 4-5 years to the Navy. Remember, it is not like the civilian world where you can just quit your job.

    Is it good to join for the money?

    • @CuratorYoonKim
      @CuratorYoonKim  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Purely money no.
      I work 12hrs a day 6 days a week and 6 hours on Sunday. totaling 78-80 hours a week. If you're willing to work in the civilian world 2 jobs and same commitment you can make more. However, opportunity, experience, and future potential benefits from joining the military I would say is what makes it worth joining.

      Along with some training actually I work 80-90 hours.

      +Exofley the only way to make rank is to have a sea job anyways?? making past e5 with a land job is next to impossible..why join the navy and not go to sea?

    • @dharock100
      @dharock100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Weekley Why get a job you don't desire and helps you achieve little to no progress on the overall goal? It depends on the individual.

      If theres a job you don't desire then don't get it? You always know what you are getting into.

    How come most people I talk to say that they’ve traveled. Jsuits says most people get deployed. You said most people don’t travel.

    • @CuratorYoonKim
      @CuratorYoonKim  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a matter of luck. Some people get to go on a ship and go places. Navy is not all about being on a ship. You could be in a place where youre not going anywhere.

    What if i wanna start on the Navy to get ready for BUD/S?

    • @CuratorYoonKim
      @CuratorYoonKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to try out for buds you have to pass the PST during DEP. If you want to start buds after you enlist then you have to wait 2 years.

      JustYoon I'm a permanent resident but in order to apply for Bud/s i also gotta be a citizen, how long will i have to wait until i can get my citizenship to apply for Bud/s after my 2 years of service in the Navy?

    • @CuratorYoonKim
      @CuratorYoonKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will get a citizenship while in boot camp if you pass. Then you wait 2 years.

    It irritates me when you say “Academic” type of work.....what the fuk does that mean?? You make it sound as if the AF and Navy are in school for their whole enlistments. I think the word you’re looking for is TECHNICAL.....the AF and Navy are the more Technical branches of the service.
