My Recruiters Lied To Me!

  • Hello everyone!
    The big secret the recruiters won't tell you is this. You can have any rate in the Navy. The recruiters have to fill quotas, numbers, and they need you. You don't need them. Make sure you get what you want before you pick your job at MEPS.
    My class mate's experience with a recruiter was this. He wanted to be LS, however at MEPS they told him LS Rate is closed and haven't been open and won't be open for a long time. They pushed him to being a coreman, a job in high demands, however my friend knew he wanted to be LS. So he waited at MEPS for hours until he got what he wanted. LS Rate is one of the most needed jobs in the Navy. The recruiters tried to steer him wrong and fill their numbers instead of meeting the needs of the people.
    My point is this. MAKE SURE YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT.

    I did everything, took the asvab, passed the medical. The last thing to do was swear in and sign my contract. But I really wanted a medic(68w) job and they kept telling me there was none available at the time. So I told them I was going to check with the other branches first, and sure enough the recruiter told me to let him make some phone calls. An hour and a half later he called with the good news. They found a medic job for me. Now I'm shippt out next month.

    FYI, your recruiter isn't the one who assigns your job. It's the Classifiers at MEPS who you negotiate this with. If you qualify for a job, ask for it, if they say no and you dont like what you're offered, you dont have to accept a job you don't like and just walk out. You're not in the military yet. And if you do pick a job you like, ask for a sign-on bonus. your job might qualify for it.
    If you really want a job, tell the classifiers you're willing to wait in DEP for the job you want.
    just my two cents.

      I got an 85 ASVAB score and ended up having to take an 11b (infantryman) because they told me I had to pick it that day. I havent shipped for BCT yet. Can I still back out until another job pops up?

    Same goes for the Army. Don't take a job you do not want. Your recruiter can get you a slot in the MOS you want, as long as you meet the ASVAB requirement. And make sure you get everything in your contract. When you go to MEPS, do not just "skim" over your contract, READ IT!!!! If it's not in your contract, you aren't getting it. Recruiters can promise you the world, but if it ain't in your contract, you not getting shit! Remember that. I lucked out and had an awesome recruiter. I went in knowing the job I wanted and when I wanted to leave. He made some calls, got me the slot I wanted, high bonus and interview with a job placement company when I ETS'd (if I wanted it). I made sure it was all in my contract. This was 8yrs ago when the enlistment bonuses were still high, but my point is...MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN YOUR CONTRACT!!!!!

    I wanna be an X-ray tech for the navy but I also want to go into the reserves so I can finish my bachelor's in nursing and then become an officer. I'm thinking if I tell my recruiter that I wanna be that and go into the reserves he might tell me that I have to do active duty. Would you happen to know if I'd have to go into active duty??

    • @MrYoonKim
      @MrYoonKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not too sure exactly on the process of reserves to officers. In my opinion I would say finish school first then go into officer rather than reserves to officers. You could ask your recruiter to connect you with a officer recruiter.

    That sucks man , LS was my 2nd choice as well my first choice was Operation specialist. But I was disqualified for colorblindness : / . I hear a lot of great things about being an LS and I have a cousin who made chief as an LS about a year ago and loves his job .
    For me when I went to pick my job there wasn't any openings initially at first . So I was qualified but no jobs as they said it. I told the guy in charge of assigning jobs that if LS became available I'd take it . After I left about an hour later he called and let me know he saved me the slot and went back the next day to swear in. I think if you waited you might have gotten the job you initially wanted , but it might have taken months .

    If my recruiter won't send me to MEPS because I'm not interested in going into another rate other than what I'm interested in (HM G000), can I go to MEPS on my own without an appointment and talk to the classifiers directly? I've already taken my ASVAB. I gave the recruiter a list of 4 other NOSs I'm Kiiiiinda interested in. Right now he's saying if none of those positions are available and I'm not willing to do "whatever else" he might not even send me down there at all. Btw, going to another recruiter next week.

    Yoon Ho Kim, please respond. I went to MEPS a few days ago, and I did all the screening and stuff, blah blah blah. I wanted to go for aviation. It turns out I did not pass the depth perception test so when I got to my classifier I really was not thinking very well and he gave me a few options and I ended up going with the PACT program. (Undesignated as you probably know). I don't ship out until May 2nd 2017 as of now. I feel like I really messed up going Undesignated and now I really want to go for Master at Arms and be an MP. Can I change my job before bootcamp? I would really appreciate a response even if your answer disappoints me haha. Thanks. Have a good day sailor!

    • @MrYoonKim
      @MrYoonKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you have to tell your recuriter what you want. Your recruiter might convince you not to do it or you can change it later. Don't let him convince you. You can do it while you are still in DEP. Exact ways your recruiter should guide you on that proces.

I believe it's a requirement now. I got mine because I was bored and couldn't sleep. BM is alright but yeah, you spend most of your time, painting, chipping paint, and mopping. Even worse if you're on an old ass ship.

Basically, she is trying go force me to take the actual asvab in 2 more days, even after I have asked for more time to look over the material so I can get the highest score possible. Do I have to go take the test this fast?

      +ralp t If I was in the active part of the Navy actually doing my job I would be able to help you more. However, I'm only in "A" School so for me to say its good or not I can't really say. Here are some things I can tell you though.
      1.For right now LS's are hardly being stationed overseas.2. LS's work with a lot of supply. Such as aircraft repair parts, ship repair parts, general supply, any supply related to the ship. Also financial tracking of accounts (sort of like accounting) 3. Most LS's get stationed at Virginia4. LS's are currently getting promoted a lot than other rates. I will start working in the active part of the navy, actually doing my job, next Thursday. If you are shipping out to boot camp later I can probably tell you more about how I feel.
      If you are not happy with what you picked change it. Its better to pick a job you like than always thinking "what if?" You would change your rate after 2 years if you lock in now. If you have anymore questions or comments feel free to ask.

      +Yoon Ho Kim LS are what used to be called SH and SK's now right? I was an MS before they changed it to CS years ago and got along with supply really well. Inport, and right before you deploy, expect some long hours receiving parts and what not. Underway is fairly easy, just getting parts can be a pain. Civilians must have taken over most or all the shore duties because it wasn't uncommon to be stationed overseas in japan...on a ship. Sometimes on shore. Seems everyone gets stuck in Virginia.

      Truth of the matter is alit if the recruiters don't know JACKK!!! TH-cam and google made a civilian like me make another civilian think I was a recruiter even though I was in civilian clothes in a Navy Recruiter Office! 🤣🤣🤣

    I'm interested in getting the LS job. Can you make a video about your job pls! What you love, what you hate about it? do you think it can be transferred easily to civilian work?

    pick your rate, pick your fate. it's on you for not researching before you talked to the recruiter. a recruiter's job is to get as many people to join the Navy as possible so they'll do whatever they need to. we're in the internet age, no excuse for not doing enough googling.

      Conrad Gonzales take the ASVAB but don't do the medical. Figure out what you can do, research it for a little while then go back, do the medical and choose your job

    is there any way i can qualify for any branch with high functioning autism spectrum disorder? because, long story short, during Christmas break, i called the airforce recruiter & he said it all depends on how severe it is & i asked 1 national guard recruiter & he said the same thing. i went on the sergeant star app & mentioned my disorder & he said, All medications & medical conditions must be disclosed to your recuiter & reviewed by the chief medical officer for the determination of qualifications. you may be required to provide your medical history to your recruiter.

      +Maximillian Meyer Having perfect score on the ASVAB would be advantageous I would say. However, overall it does come down to the Medical personal at MEPS. I don't understand the whole process, but I recommend you take it heads on.

      +Mike McCarty (Agent Defender) Not too sure which video you are talking about, but maybe I misspoke. I do love video editing, and I used to do a lot of editing in my other channels before. Now, I choose not to do any editing or little to none.

    All recruiters lie, you should have known this. They lie to all guys so they can stay on shore duty. If they don't meet their quota, the get sent to sea on a fast moving destroyer. By the way, Mass Communications is not a sailor's job. Sound more like an Air Force guy would do. Sailors should be on deck jobs or in the engine room. Period. You are not real sailor. Sailors know how to run ships. You should have joined the USAF. They treat their people very well, you get your own private room and eat soft serve ice cream every day.
