  • Hi everyone, so I know the year of 2020 wasn’t really the best year for everyone including those in the railroad industry. However, during this time I did manage to catch quite a good amount of train action including a few unexpected surprises along the way. It’s here where I got the chance to see both freight and passenger trains throughout both Ventura and Los Angeles County in various locations including Amtrak’s Coast Starlight heading to and coming from Seattle, Washington. It’s also worth pointing out that around this time, Metrolink was in the process of retiring the vast majority of their F59PH and F59PHI locomotive fleet as more and more of the EMD F125 locomotives continued to enter service on many of their trains with the exception of a few EMD F59PHR locomotives that still remained in-service. From there, the rest of the older F59 locomotives could and still can be seen in the Keller Yard just a few miles from Los Angeles Union Station with an undetermined fate. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this new video as the summer of 2024 comes closer and stay tuned until the end of the video to see a special sneak peek of what’s to come in the next video. As always, feel free to leave a comment and a like down below and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel it really means a lot and I’ll see you all in that next video!!! :)

Yep…things were pretty tough in the year of 2020 both for us and those in the railroad industry. This was especially true considering how much passenger numbers dropped due to the global event and you can see how much Amtrak had to cut back with lower passenger numbers as seen on their long-distance trains such as the Coast Starlight running from Los Angeles to Seattle being shortened from the normal 9-car consist to little more than a 5-car consist and the baggage cars would be placed at the end of the trains instead. But regardless of how the year 2020 went, I still managed to catch a good amount of trains throughout especially freight trains, heritage units and even UP 1111 leading a special Union Pacific passenger train which was also really cool to see!!! Glad you enjoyed the video!!! :)

That’s the old Chatsworth Station platform at De Soto Avenue which is a mile from the actual Metrolink/Amtrak Chatsworth Station…this is where Control Point or Signal Point Bernson is…it is a unique location that many train enthusiasts have gone to for many years and one that I’ve always enjoyed when it comes to seeing trains there ever since I first discovered it back in 2016…but in recent years following 2020, the main parking area next to it has since been fenced off to many, so you might want to look for another parking spot in the area and then walk to the platform from there which if I’m right is still intact…it has been awhile since I last went to De Soto Avenue. :)
